there are lots of great vets in durham but i'm happy to call carver street our vet. the folks who work there are incredibly nice and know our family well. they have guided us through the loss of older pets and helped keep our younger ones happy and healthy. they get to know us as people and understand how we want to care for our animals. they are good folks. xo! If a Vet isn't any good then you should find a new one. But I got recommended to go here and I like them quite a lot! All the nurses and the one doctor I've seen are terrific. They are curious and caring and knowledgeable.Also there is plenty of parking, which is hard to come by in that part of town! Read Less

I brought my toy poodle Ike here for the first time just for a routine check up. The staff was amazing! They were able to accommodate my appointment needs and they took very good care of Ike. Very friendly staff everyone was so polite and made me feel welcome. They were so good with my little dog. Most of the time she has separation anxiety but she seemed unfazed going back with strangers and letting them cut her nails and give her a shot. Our family is visiting from out of state & Cienna, our 5 month old puppy became ill. Calling vet after vet at 4:00 on a Monday, I received apology after apology & was told to take her to the emergency clinic. But Carver said "how fast can you be here?". We recently moved to the area and could not be more satisfied with the service we have received at Carver Street. We have a high-needs dog that requires regular visits for multiple issues and they always make us feel welcome and, more importantly, that our concerns are heard and valid. So far we have only seen Dr. Sankey and Dr. Gillian, and both of them were absolutely fabulous with our pets. The receptionists are so friendly and the techs handle our pets with great care. I'd give them more stars if I could. I've been going there for 15 years with my dogs. Dr. Crabtree and Dr. Bashor are super skilled surgeons. Dr. Crabtree saved my dog's life by removing a corncob obstructing her bowels. Dr. Bashor removed a huge tumor from the dog's chest. When one of my puppies had her umbilical cord cut to close by momma dog, they were able to stitch the newborn up and save her, too. These Drs. are so understanding and compassionate. They seem to genuinely enjoy working with my dogs and my dogs never are worried about seeing the vet as a result. They spend plenty of time with the patients and don't seem so rushed (like human doctors often do). The advice and treatment options discussed are practical and take budgets into consideration. When the time has come to say goodbye to a beloved pet, there is nowhere on earth that could be more compassionate about the circumstances. Thanks for being awesome! Read Less

Our elderly cat has gotten wonderful care from this vet office--he had multiple health issues and Dr. Gilliam did an amazing job of caring for him. Everyone is friendly and helpful and their love for animals is obvious. The vet has also been available for quick phone and in-person consults when needed, and always follows up a treatment with a phone call a few days later to see how our kitty is doing. Love, love, LOVE this place. We've been coming here for seven years with our wonderful pug Priscilla. They have always treated her exceptionally well. In fact, Priscilla is the first dog I have ever had that loves going to the vet. Tell her she's going, and watch her throw herself a little party. When she gets there she is still just as thrilled as can be.I feel like the care Priscilla has gotten has been the best. The doctors are very attentive and thorough. Additionally, she is very well taken care of when we have to board her there. The staff know her and love on her. Pay for a bath if you board. They do the best job.Recently we got a new pug through Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue. Max was a bit difficult when we boarded him. Because of his past abuse, he has a very hard time being crated. However, the staff have worked with him. On my most recent visit I learned that they have a system in place that seems to be helping him, and his behavior over all has gotten much better. They understand that Max has issues, and that there is only so much any of us can do about them. They are willing to accept Max and work with him and give him love.I cannot recommend a better place to take your pet. Read Less

I love this vet's office.  My husband has been bringing "his" animals here for years.  I have been going to a national vet for 8 years with my 2 dogs and our 2 cats.  I was under the incorrect assumption that any visit to the vet would be financially crushing.  You know what. . . it doesn't have to be!  This is not a budget vets office, but a normal, well run, compassionate office. They have treated our chronically ill cat and gotten him under control.  Dr. Crabtree helped us in December with the saddest day of our  marriage.  We unexpectedly had to put down one of our old lady dogs.  Dr. Crabtree and staff were so wonderful that it brings tears to my eyes just thinking of all the kindness that they gave us. My husband brought Bonnie in suspecting that she was just under the weather, and I showed up a while later, just having the feeling that Bonnie would not be coming home with him.  Dr. Crabtree was upfront, did not try and sell us any pipe dreams or extra treatments.  She basically told us that Bonnie had made the decision to move on, we just needed to help her.  They let us sit in the room with her until we were ready.  The procedure was quiuck and we were allowed to stay with her as long as we wanted.  They allowed us to leave without settling up on the bill, I have to tell you, not having to stop in the lobby with other people and their pets was a Godsend.  i'm hoping that no one reading this ever has to deal with the loss of a pet, but the way a business treats you in a crisis is a true mark of their credibility.  We have sense transferred all our animals to Carver Street, and I have been very pleased with the well animal care as well.  I took our oldest, a 17 year old mix in on Wednesday beacuse of some senility issues, and felt as though Dr. Crabtree was very direct and didn't try and sell me any snake oil.  I highly reccommend this Hospital to anyone who is looking for an awesome vets office in Durham! I have been bringing my dogs here for about 8 years and they have been really good. They are so good with the animals but they also get the job done. As far as I can tell their prices are reasonable and they are flexible. They also do boarding which is great if you can't afford some of the more expensive pet store chains. Our three dogs are our children.  I wouldn't take their care lightly.  I have trusted Carver St. with their care for over 4 years and I have always been pleased with their staff:  from vets to techs to reception staff.  The dogs have their check-ups, vet care, grooming and occassional boarding ALL at Carver Street.  They even include us (and other clients) on their team for the Durham APS Dog Walk fundraiser.  It is always a pleasure to patronize a business that makes you feel that welcome.Also, they have recently remodeled the business (interior and landscaping) to update their appearance.  Woof!
