A great option for local vet. VERY competitive prices, wait times aren’t bad even when it’s busy. Friendly staff, easy to get an appointment. Nice vets. I’ve done normal preventative care here and also have had my dog hospitalized and recommend them. Though they will not send prescriptions to places like 1800petmeds, which sucks for more expensive medications and flea meds. Should strongly consider expanding their practice into a larger building since the small waiting area isn’t be best for such a busy clinic. Read Less

I have taken every dog I have ever had to Cape Fear Animal hospital. My Pitt Bull Rio loves it so much every time I tell him where we are going he will pick up his leash and sit by the door. Rio had to have his front led amputated and Dr. Jonas and our Cape Fear family has made it an easier experience that I though it would be. Dr. Jonas is more than our vet. She is one of the family. Let me start off by saying that if this rating was ONLY based on the veterinarians and the care that my 2 dogs receive, I'd give 5 stars. My dogs have been seen by all of the veterinarians that work there and always have very thorough exams and I'm given lots of information in every visit. The vets here never give the impression that they are in a hurry while they are in an exam room and take great care to make sure all of my questions are answered before I leave. They work very hard to make sure my pets are comfortable and pain free throughout the visit, and have appropriate pain meds when they go home. All of the vet staff loves our animals, and treats them just like they were their own dogs. Even making suggestions based on what they would do if it were their animals. The reason for the 3 star rating is the customer service from the ladies at the front desk (excluding Anita who is always super sweet). These ladies are almost always grumpy and even rude; not only with me, but all other interactions I've witnessed over the past 2 years. I've tried talking to a few of the veterinarians about this and have gotten the response "Oh well, maybe they've just had a long day." If you are in a customer-facing position (which they most certainly are), it is grumpy and rude is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Even if you have an interaction with a rude customer (it certainly happens), there is no excuse to punish the next customer that walks through the door. The front desk staff is the first and last experience customers have with this business. As such, it's often these experiences that shape the customers' view of a business. These employees most certainly need to be reminded of their responsibilities in customer service. Read Less

We recently moved here from Kansas and was hoping to find a quality place for grooming. When I called Cape Fear the receptionist was rude and very short with me. She informed me it would cost 100$ PER DOG to get my Labrador and Basset bathed/nails clipped. I asked why it was so expensive and she told me I was welcome to take them somewhere else. I paid 35$ per dog in Kansas/Alaska and Oregon. Not sure why this place charges three times that amount. We spend close to 1000$ a year for our dogs health care and based on this places customer service we will be choosing another facility. Read Less

I was intensely impressed by our veterinarian's awareness of obscure diseases and cases, and relieved by her efforts to help us find the cause for our dog's issues rather than continuing to throw harmful medications at it as our previous vet had done. We left the office with two excellent possibilities to take to a specialist, one of which was actually very basic and common yet had apparently never occurred to our previous vet. Additionally, my dog has always been very reserved and clingy at the vet. Once he met our new veterinarian he opened right up! Even after nail trimming and shots and exams, he hopped around eagerly with his tail wagging- watching the vet's door and hoping for someone to come back through! He even let her examine his teeth several times with far less fuss than he's ever given anyone else, including myself. Having had several previous vets excessively and sometimes incorrectly medicate our fur babies without a moment's hesitation or remorse after said medications made them ill, I am overwhelmingly relieved to find a vet which takes medications as seriously as the side effects deserve to be taken. I was also very pleased with how thoroughly they discussed the medications and other options with us, rather than glossing over important details and dismissing our concerns or trying to make us comply by withholding things that might worry us. Dr. G has been amazing with both of our dogs (one which is a senior and the other a young puppy). She always takes her time and shares knowledgeable information which I love. Everyone at the office greets our babies, gives them treats, and makes it an all around great experience. We were referred here by friends for our German Shepherd Dog, Bullet. We have seen 3 of the 4 DVM's and have been really happy with all so far. The front office is very pleasant despite being very busy. Very professional. No unnecessary tests and very reasonable fee schedule. Won't go anywhere else. Read Less

I used to work for this vet 15 years ago. I've been behind the scenes and I've been a concerned pet parent, which is why I wholeheartedly recommend them. I know how much the doctors (all of the staff, honestly) *TRULY* care about animals. There is not a single person in that office that won't go above and beyond to provide the best care possible for your pet. That was true when my mother started going there 30 years ago with Dr. Krepp, and it's still true now with Dr. Jonas, et all. If not for Dr. G, I would have lost my cat. He actually has a fighting chance because of the care received, and the compassion that was extended to both me and my husband isn't something that could ever be bought. First visit was great. Very helpful and worked us in. Second visit was supposed to be $12 for a litter of puppies to be dewormed. Came in to my appointment 15 minutes early and the office is very hectic as they're having issues with the computer and they had a woman on the phone who apparently was overcharged I was put into a room with the puppies they were wormed and examined and when I went to check out I was charged $48.00? I thought I may have misunderstood so I went home to check my records to see what I wrote down and sure enough I wrote down $12. I called and spoke to the woman who originally booked the appointment and she said she wrote down in the computer exam? / worming. I was put on hold and the woman who checked me and said she asked me if I wanted the dog be examined she said I said yes. This never happened as they were in a panic this morning about their computer system being down and a women calling about being overcharged for medication. To top of everything when I spoke to the office manager she was dismissive whole ordeal and offered a $18 credit ( half the cost of the exam). I have no problem paying for service that I received but I expect to be informed of this service that I received and treated decently when I Bring an issue to the manager. Best part is when I told her I guess it probably won't be back and said OK great thanks click! All over $36! Not to mention I never spoke to an actual vet. The vet never entered the room...Read Less

My cat dreads the trip in the car because he knows he's headed for the vet, and will probably get poked, stuck, or have to be around big dogs that bark. But once he's in the hands of the Vet, Dr Wheeler, he calms down and won't even protest. She's excellent with cats! And Dr Garringer performed a surgery on my cat and he's doing great. My 13 yr. old cat to got very sick and I took him to his vet at CFAH. He stayed there until the office was closing and it was determined that he needed to have round the clock care so he was transported to the emergency animal hospital. Unfortunately, he didn't make it and passed away just after midnight on Thanksgiving Day. Early that same morning, I received a call from Dr. G. and she was as devastated over my loss as I was. You just don't find many Veterinarins that care so much that they take time to call and express sympathy and console the "parent" too. I love these people and would not take my pet anywhere else. I've taken my dog here for almost 3 years and have never had a bad experience. The medical care and attention he receives is great - he never seems nervous to be in the office or handled by the staff. Also, the front desk staff is wonderful, particularly Lori. She has been beyond helpful and accommodating every time I visit. I have two very young children and my hands are full, so she will either help me carry items to my car, or do our transaction over the phone and meet me at the car so I don't have to even come in. I give 5 stars to this wonderful place..I know in my heart they did everything possible for our Casey. When we lost our sweet girl..they were the most compassionate and understanding people. The hugs and condolences from Drs. and staff warmed my heart so. When my little girl Shotze had to go in for surgery on 9-2-15 they never missed a beat in their friendliness, caring and advice. We were recommended this hospital from my brother a long time costumer of this facility. we had a older dog that became very sick and stopped eating lost equilibrium and it gave us no option to make a final decision. the staff were so nice and sympathetic . very caring. the doctor very knowledgeable. all our questions were answered in a very consoling way. today we received copy of our dogs foot prints and a most comforting card. Poor customer service and attitudes at this animal hospital. We have used this facility for the last few years, but after our last two experiences we will not be returning. Our last two experiences were with Dr. Sarah Morgan, and her misdiagnosis of our dog's snake bite last summer, and her discourteous treatment of my husband when he dropped off our new kitten for treatment yesterday has lost our continued business with this clinic. When I arrived yesterday afternoon with my husband to address the situation, she did not take the time to come out and speak with me, and after I left to pick up my son from daycare, she cornered my husband in the exam room and had the discourtesy to ask him "so what's wrong with your wife?" And then proceeded to berate him for addressing our concerns with her poor customer service to the front office staff in front of other customers. Arrogant, unprofessional, and rude! Read Less
