Happy Tails Veterinary Emergency Clinic

Greensboro, North Carolina
General Info
Happy Tails Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Greensboro provides specialized veterinary services that adjust to each pet’s comfort level which enables North Carolina families to establish confidence-building routines. Veterinary appointments commence through detailed observation of how pets enter examination rooms and respond to auditory stimuli while interacting with environmental surfaces and handlers. Physical exams proceed with deliberate steadiness through assessments of skin elasticity ear sensitivity muscle tone spine alignment and facial tension. Each behavioral response such as flinching upon touch or stretching into relaxation is recorded to guide both visit pacing and future care decisions. Happy Tails Veterinary Emergency Clinic delivers preventive care combined with diagnostics and vaccinations alongside dental evaluations plus orthopedic review and pain management plans. Structured care timelines based on observed behavior and recovery cues help owners advance pet care without overwhelming their animals. Homes dealing with anxiety management surgical recovery or treatment transitions find this particularly beneficial. Pet owners get advice based on their animal's behavior instead of test results. Every session helps establish a sustainable long-term rhythm by incorporating trust-building through extended appointments and modifying physical exam positions. Happy Tails Veterinary Emergency Clinic assists families throughout Greensboro and North Carolina in developing veterinary practices based on careful observation, interactive communication, and a tempo that both pets and their owners can confidently maintain.

Please stay away from happy tails. Our dog was having trouble breathing and we took him to happy tails. We knew and told the person gathering information over the phone that he suffered from a collapse trachea. The first communication we had was to agree on how much the initial exam would cost. Then we received calls saying they wanted to do more test and how much it would cost. They told us he was critical and that if he was to go into cardiac arrest it would be 150.00 dollars for each CPR attempt. Not much on saving lives. We asked on numerous occasions to be able to come in and comfort our pet. We were refused. Only communication was about money. After 3 hours we were called in to watch our pet of 13 years die within minutes. He was already past the capacity to realize we were there. I never received a report on our visit just a bill of 800.00 plus dollars. They didn’t attempt to try to give any emergency medication to reduce his fluid build up. Just kept us outside and kept running expensive test while our dog died. Go somewhere else for your pets emergency care. Read Less

Due to a possible ear infection And the age of my senior dog I was referred to Happy Tails by a vet in town. Since we were new to the area and close to their location we thought  that we were lucky. Until 5 hours later and my dog was still in the back waiting to be seen by the one and only vet. I had missed a couple if engagements that were important. My dog was released by my insistence, sadly without diagnosis or treatment. We will go to a regular vet tomorrow. Unfortunately my dog clearly is uncomfortable but will have to wait. The office and support staff were awesome and understanding. I never met the vet. I fault the poor services on whoever is in charge of scheduling. If an emergency service is that slammed there should have been a back up vet. Read Less

Midnight of a snow night and my tiny 3.5 lb Yorkie ate an Advil, which can cause GI issues and at worst renal failure and possibly death, my father is a local vet so I knew a way I could induce vomiting which I did, but called Happy Tails to seek their opinion if I should still come in because I did not see the tablet - I spoke with a vet tech for 10 min who patiently assessed my situation and answered my questions, then I sought advice of pet poison control as well due to her size, ultimately decided to wake my two young girls and go in just to be safe, upon arrival I found the Advil tablet in my pup's fur!  My girls were distraught and wanted to make sure our pup was ok still, so we went in.  Even though we knew the dog was safe now with the Advil found, the staff was so kind and one of the vets came to the waiting area to check her out, did a mini exam and let the girls help and listen to her heart rate too, and gave them stickers!  Everyone here was so wonderful and kind and went above and beyond to make sure my dog was safe and well and comfort my whole crew - not at all expected but very much appreciated and felt well taken care of - we will definitely come back here if we have another pet emergency! Nearly a week ago, our sweet kitty Giga starting having significant breathing issues. We came home from work, and realized something was really wrong with her. I called a local vet, and they referred us to Happy Tails. We contacted them, and the receptionist was so kind. As I was explaining  our cat's symptoms, I broke down. She was very empathic, and recommended we come in immediately. The entire staff was amazing. The Vet Tech handled Giga like we would have. She was very kind, and loving towards her. After examining her, Dr. Blair came in, and explained everything to us. Dr. Blair never made us feel like we were horrible pet parents who couldn't justify (or afford) spending $2000 to treat a symptom, to have it happen again next week; nor was she judging us for making the difficult decision to put Giga to sleep.Unfortunately, we had to make the devastating decision to put our loving Giga Bitz to sleep. She was suffering from Congestive Heart Failure. Dr. Blair and her staff allowed us to take all the time we wanted with Giga in her final moments, and they allowed us to be in the room with her when she took her last breath; again, allowing us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. We wanted to bury her at home. They respectfully and lovingly put Giga in a box, drew a heart in the top of it, and gave us an ink print of her little paw as a keepsake. They were even gracious with us as we used two boxes of tissues, and sobbed all over the check we wrote for their services. My husband and I were already thinking about writing a review, but the final gesture that pushed us to do was the unexpected card we received from them today in the mail. Dr. Blair sent us a beautiful sympathy card, with a handwritten note. My husband called me at work to tellme. We both cried as we read it. Words can not adequately express how appreciative we are for Dr. Blair, and her team at Happy Tails. While we are still grieving the events of that evening, and the difficult decision we had to make in Giga's best interest, Dr.Blair and her team treated us and our entire situation with dignity and respect. We are thankful they were by our side through this. Read Less

I was very concerned reading these reviews while sitting in the waiting room for the first time while my very sick dog was being tended to in the back for the first time at Happy Tails. It being 2am and coming in for the first time with a sick dog with blood coming out of both ends figuring the worst, your emotions are at their peak. The staff was very attentive, professional and understanding. We were sent home for the night not knowing if we would see our dog again but having a good feeling that she was going to receive the best possible care after speaking to the attending vet. Unlike many of the reviewers who think they know more than the vet, we authorized whatever procedures were necessary to save her figuring that we would get billed like some of the reviews said. When we picked her up in the morning, she was doing much better and many of the procedures that we authorized were not needed and not done. Yes, emergency vet care is not cheap, but it certainly was far from a rip off. They could have billed us for everything but they were honest and did only what was needed. This was verified with my vet. According to our vet, Happy Tails saved our dogs life. If we would have waited until morning to bring her to our vet, most likely we would have had a dead dog on our hands. They diagnosed and treated her illness perfectly and she is once again a happy healthy dog. I hope I never have to use Happy Tails again but its nice to know they are there if that day does come again. On behalf of Pixie and our family, thank you Happy Tails! Read Less

Wasnt going to post a review until I saw the belligerent attacks toward negative reviews. I am honestly curious of the response. We had a hedgehog who was sick. He would swell to an uncomfortable size. Naturally my girlfriend and I struggle very hard (with multiple visits to the vet) to nurse him back to health. Finally, I called them at 6 AM while he was swollen and in obvious pain and asked if they 'actually knew how to help him'. Ultimately we were told by Happy Tails that they couldn't. We took him to NC State where he passed away only to find out that he had something similar to thrush. We had no financial constraints, we were never asked by Happy Tails for cultures or X Ray's, and were given mismatched and conflicting information. If you dont know an animal PLEASE do not even attempt to treat the animal. We would have gone to NC State on day one. Read Less

Late Tuesday night I came home from work to find my dog in an extremely bad way. She only weighed 20lbs to begin with and had been steadily losing weight despite upping calories. When I got home she was completely dehydrated and looked skin and bones with boogers everywhere. I gently cleaned her eyes and nose and tried to get her to eat and drink which she did at first. When she refused both a short while later I called Happy Tails and made the decision to bring her in. The receptionist was very kind. I did feel like the vet tech was judging me in regards to my dogs' appearance BUT I understand why. I would assume that a dog that looked like mine wasn't getting fed either. So I understood her concern (because I had it too!). Turns out she weighed 15lbs instead of 20lbs which was obviously a significant difference in appearance considering that is 25% of her body weight missing. They do ask for a minimum down payment of $500 but in all likelihood if your dog is at the emergency vet  in critical condition you'll likely need at least twice that much by the time you leave anyway so it seemed very reasonable. I wasn't happy with the fact I was told they were going to check on her and let me know and didn't appear for 45 minutes after that (I was a sobbing mess the entire time) but I think it was because they wanted all of the facts first. By the time the doctor came out he had test results in hand and a tentative diagnosis  for the underlying causes but a definitive one for what caused the weight loss, etc. as it turns out she appeared to have some kind of gastrointestinal disease which caused pancreatitis on some level as well as protein losing enteropathy. The doctor explained this very well to me and the implications. He did not try to influence my decision into spending more money or into putting her to sleep. He simply presented the facts and answered my questions intelligently and quickly. He also explained what each option of treatment was and the benefits/risks, etc. as well as what the next step would look like if they could get her through the night. He presented me with the information on what her condition was and further issues she was having. As much as my heart broke I chose to put my very young 4 year old dog to sleep to end her suffering and I could do it with as much as a clear conscience (I will always feel guilty for not knowing sooner what was causing her weight loss) as possible thanks to Happy Tails. They brought her in for us to hold her before we made our decision and then before prepping her for the procedure, walked us through the options and choices, and explained the cost of each of them. I am beyond broken that I left without my best friend but I know that they treated her with care and respect to the very end and that means a great deal for me. The total cost of her treatment, euthanasia, cremation, and momentos (paw print/box for ashes) was $550. I would've paid four times that if it meant my little girl would still be here AND not in pain (I could've had the first but not the second). The photo below was what she looked like before she refused fluid/food. The second was when we were given her to hold while we made our decision. She had soiled her blanket because of incontinence and they had carefully wrapped her up in a nice clean one. They were also kind enough to put the soiled blanket in a bag for us too. Read Less

At this time he was not bleeding. So I thought it was not that bad and toile meds and left. The next 2 days they have called me and bug the hell out of me. Our puppy received his last round of shots on a Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon his face and paws were swollen. We called the vet who had given the shots and there was not even an emergency number to call. We began did a google search and called Happy Trails Emergency Hospital late on Saturday afternoon. The staff from the minute we called was very helpful. They explained the cost and reasons for treatment before anything was done to the puppy so that we could choose what we wanted to have done. Not only was the puppy treated but we also received helpful advice for our puppy including help finding a place to board him over the holidays and tips if we decided to fly with him ( which we did with complete success!). They also recommended a vet near us and we made the switch right away and have been very pleased with their recommendation. When your pet is in an emergency situation you want someone who cares, who takes every detail seriously and also explains the cost involved. We definitely will return here should we have an emergency. It gives us peace of mind to know they are there and open should we need them! Read Less

Went in for my puppy having diarrhea for over a day. Before the vet even took a look at my puppy, they informed me they would not only need a stool sample, but x-rays and an array of other expensive tests. When I asked if we could start with just the stool sample, and go from there, the lady scathingly said "O, is money a problem?" I informed her that I would do whatever needed to be done to treat him, but would like the vet to at least LOOK AT HIM, before deciding what tests would be run. After waiting for 4 hours, the vet finally came in and talked to me and my girlfriend, and determined that the stool sample was enough to diagnose and she would prescribe some antibiotics. She also stated because of the diarrhea that he may be dehydrated. Then she said "I was informed that money was an issue, so I would suggest X, Y, and Z meds, but if you cannot afford it, you could just try X". I walked out with all of the medicine they suggested, and will not be returning. The only reason I am giving 2*s instead of 1* is my puppies primary vet confirmed they did at least prescribe the correct medication.Read Less

We thought our cat may have ingested antifreeze at midnight on a Saturday. We have had a couple of unfavorable encounters with the other emergency vet hospital in Winston Salem. We called Happy Tails and spoke with Stacy who left it up to us but said you are free to bring Georgie in. We got there and he was seen right away. You could tell the staff really sincerely cared for our baby. The veterinarian, Dr. Oliver personally came out to tell us that his test results were negative. She was very complementary on us bring him in to err on the side of caution. The price was about a 1/3 of what the other vet would have charged and they did step by step care instead of doing every test under the sun like we've experienced before saving us money as well. The 2 really cool things is that Georgie received a certificate for being such a good and brave boy during he's visit AND they just called us 2 days later just to make sure he was still doing okay. Talk about patient care being a priority ( I work at a major hospital in the area and that's saying a lot). I HIGHLY recommend bringing the furbabies here in an emergency. They have definitely become our choice from now on for after hours emergencies without a doubt. Thanks again Stacy and Dr. Oliver and all the staff! You have a top notch establishment. We have been in a similar situation before at another emergency vet earlier this year, and it seemed like euthanizing a pet was just business as usual. Last weekend something attacked my baby pitbull outside while she was using the bathroom. We were in total shock and took her straight to your guys. We learned her jaw was broke, possible artery ruptured, and that if she even made it through the night she would need to see a specialist for surgery Monday morning. My fiancé and I were trying everything we could to come up with the money, but realized she probably wouldn't make it. This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make as a couple and I just want to say thank you. We were mad at first when the vet said she would call animal control if we took her home, but we realized she couldn't go home. She had lost so much blood and we couldn't do anything for her. Thank you to everyone at the vet. You guys let us spend as much time as we needed with our Nala Bear and we will never forget it. Very sad experience there - I will never go back nor will I refer anyone there. I took in my little 5 week old kitten to euthanize her on 10/23 and they took her back and I assumed they would call me back in a few minutes for I had told them I wanted to be with her. 3 hours later they put me in a room and said she was in too much pain to have a catheter put in her leg (where her injuries were) and I agreed it would be cruel to put her through that but I said I wanted them to bring her in for me to say good-bye to her and I waited a long time and a vet tech came in and said they would be right out with her and the carrier - I burst out crying - they had forgotten to bring her in for me to say my good-bye's and euthanized her instead while I waited all that time in the room! Then when they brought her little body out to me instead of the little coffin they usually send cats in to be buried at home in they sent her home in an office supply box! So I left without ever getting to say good-bye to my precious little kitten, Katie. It was not busy that day - I would have been happy to sit with her and wait until they found the time to euthanize her but instead they let her sit in back for 3 hours alone and in pain. Please think twice about taking your beloved pet there.Read Less

I have lived in Greensboro for 4 years, but never had to take my dog to an emergency vet. This Sat I came home to see that my dog had gotten into the trash and eaten chicken bones. I immediately Googled emergency vets in Greensboro and called Happy Tails. The receptionist was so friendly and helpful. Once we arrived (It was unusually busy that night) we only had to wait about 45 min to be seen. They took x-rays of my dog and eventually got her to vomit the chicken bones out. I was so relived she didn't have to have surgery. Not only did they send her home with medicine, she also got a bandanna and a certificate of Bravery (I thought that was adorable). They even called a few days later to see how my dog was doing. Being that I had not been to emergency vet in Greensboro before, I was wary in the beginning. Happy Tails put all my skepticism aside. I loved their personable customer service. Their staff was very friendly and kept me updated on my dog. I will definitely be recommending this place to anyone who is looking for a great Emergency vet in the triad area!Read Less

It was late saturday night when my dog got out of my house and hit by a car. I called happy tails and they said bring him in. When i got there they were very friendly and took fred back immediately. The doctor soon came out and told me how serious the injuries were, and most inportant, how much it would cost. We had $200 on us and gave it to her and she went back to fred. I wasnt allowed to see him. She came back out and told me it would be a few hundred dollars more, and at the time i didnt have a bank card so late saturday night i had no immediate way to get money. The friendliness disappeared. After telling me she wouldnt continue withput more money she gave me a number to a loan company which i called and borrowed $300 on a high interest but i didnt care. She got confirmation of money and went back to fred again. Still i wasnt allowed to see him. Then, AGAIN, she came out and said costs still climbing and i needed to get more money or she couldnt continue. The loan company wouldnt loan any more so she suggested i call family and borrow it. When fred died, she already had hundreds of dollars paid to her, counting what loan company paid her, but she told me i couldnt have freds body till bill paid in full. It was most horrible experience of my life. As a comparison, i had a dog get hurt recently, took him to a vet in reidsville. Their words were "lets fix the dog, then worry about money" ive been using that vet, and paying every bill, ever since. Read Less

Sometimes I get caught up in reviewing food places that I forget to YELP about non-food businesses. Sunday, my beautiful little 10-week-old chocolate lab was bitten by another dog. In the heat of the moment, my boyfriend and I got her in the car and drove her quickly to the nearest emergency vet (Happy Tails). She was bleeding badly and crying a lot. She was immediately taken back and assessed, absolutely no waiting (which was good because I was freaking out about her injuries). We ended up spending over 1.5 hours there for treatment. About every 20 minutes or so, the vet or a vet tech would come out and update us. They were thorough in their assessment of her and took all the precautions I would want them to make. Dr. Allgood was wonderful - she spoke with us for about 15 minutes, showing us x-rays and discussing her treatment of our sweet girl.I called our primary vet this morning to see is she needed to be brought in for evaluation. Happy Tails already faxed over the documents they had on her (great!!) and my primary vet thought her treatment was great - no need to see her unless complications arise.Sure, it was expensive - it always will be. I don't have pet insurance so it was costly to have this done. However, the invoice provided a breakdown of everything done, and the prices were no more expensive that a human doctor (without insurance). Considering the time and care they put into our little pup, I'd pay that amount over and over again. Our little girl will heal just fine with no major complications ahead - all because Happy Tails took great care of her. Read Less

Worst place ever! Wouldn't see my dog as he lay there dying cause my mother, the credit card holder was not present yet. They let him lay there dying for 45 min. They are only in it for the money. No sympathy what so ever. Who abuses their animal and then takes him to the vet for care and spends $600? Animal control came to my house and said everything was perfectly fine. My pet is in no danger! I told them of your unsympathetic attitude and they then realized that your call to animal control was just a smart ass thing to do to cause me grief. You are a JOKE for a vet. I'm simply giving my review on this horrible Establishment. Do not take your pet to this vet! We had a sick ferret who was urinating blood. After taking him to a vet clinic in winston who didnt treat ferrets, we were directed to Happy Tails. The staff was amazing- friendly and courteous. There were several dogs vs cars who came in while we were there- so we understandably had to wait- but the doctor stayed in touch with us through the receptionist frequently so we didn't feel forgotten. When treatment was done and the doctor consulted with us, the information was incredibly thorough- and she was very apologetic about the wait. (Like a human E.D., we know serious cases take presidence). Within 12 hours Remy's urine was clear...and the instructions for meds was thorough so i felt confident giving him his meds. I would highly recommend them. They are compassionate and knowledgeable- and witnessing the interactions with other "parents" i saw thorough care and going the extra mile. Dealing with a sick or critical pet is scary and sets one on edge...the techs were soft spoken and firm and seemed to give each pet parent what they needed. This is not the closest emergency vet to me- but i would bring my pets here if needed. Thanks you guys for being so wonderful. Even the follow up call today was sweet and concerned.Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

We brought our elderly cat to Happy Tails on Saturday Nov. 11th. Her health had be declining for over a week and she was not eating and dehydrated. Our vet was already closed so we took her here to get her some fluids and give her some comfort. The staff were all very friendly from the time we walked in. Dr. Blair gave our girl Cinnamon a very thorough exam and gave us options as to how to handle Cinnamon's treatment. We ultimately had to let our girl go but I appreciate the efforts made by the Happy Tails staff to make her comfortable to enjoy the last couple of days we had with her. Read Less

Over the weekend, I had became very worried about my chinchilla drooling. I've had quite a hard time finding any vet in the area that will see chinchillas. After searching for somewhere open on a Sunday, I located another emergency vet who would not see my exotic pet and was referred to Happy Tails. I was very pleased with his treatment and the staff. I did not find their prices too high by any means, and my pets are family...I'm more than happy to pay for them to have access to good health care. Definitely not an area I try to cut costs. Happy Tails was also able to refer me to 2 different vet offices near my home that would see my chinchillas.

We're lucky to have you all!! Read Less

I share my wife's sentiment. We were so concerned about Timber last night. He was laboring to breathe and we knew something had to be done. Before making the near hour journey I called and talked to a tech. It wax recommended that we bring him up there and we did. They stayed within our budget and got his breathing under control. We took our fur baby here after reading reviews and calling many emergency vets. We chose them because of how kind and understanding they were on the phone as we explained the situation- vomiting and diarrhea for our sweet pup (who has a past history with pancreatitis). We got there around midnight and for the next three hours, they were nothing but attentive, helpful, and efficient in explaining the options and included us in every decision made. After receiving medications and fluids to get us through the night we took her to our usual vet first thing in the morning and they were very pleased with the reports and level of care that we had received the previous night. The cost was very reasonable and we were not forced to do anything. Hopefully we will not have to, but if we needed to, we would take our fur baby back without hesitation.Read Less

We took our Nolo in late on Saturday night. The veterinarian examined Nolo immediately and explained the issues he was having and our options. When we made the tough decision to end his pain, the veterinarian was very sympathetic and assured us that this was the right decision and that it showed how much we loved him. We have been in a similar situation before at another emergency vet earlier this year, and it seemed like euthanizing a pet was just business as usual. The entire staff seemed genuinely sympathetic and let us spend as long as we wanted saying goodbye. While the results of my visit left me very sad having lost my little buddy, I am extremely grateful for the staff at Happy Tails for how they treated us and Nolo. Read Less

The paw prints are in a shadow box in our home now with all of her favorite toys, clothes, and collar. Thank you again and for the card in the mail. RIP to my Nala Bear.

Read Less

My pet is in no danger! I told them of your unsympathetic attitude and they then realized that your call to animal control was just a smart ass thing to do to cause me grief.
