I would not recommend Hampstead Animal Hospital (HAH). In fact, I would actively tell people to NOT go there. I feel like we have given HAH ample opportunity to provide us with a good standard of care and they have failed each time. Dr. Gervais that worked there previously was great; we took our puppy to HAH Nov 2017 because we knew she was ill and Dr. Gervais diagnosed her with pneumonia. Dr. Gervais was very kind and provided a thorough explanation as to what was going on with our poor puppy. When we came back the next week for a follow up checkup, Dr. Bradler was the vet that we saw. This is when things started on the downhill path.
*Some background information: Our puppy was born with a cleft palate and we were looking into getting it repaired at this time. This is a likely cause of her getting pneumonia, which we were aware of*
On the follow-up appointment, Dr. Bradler took our puppy for an x-ray, came back a few minutes later and proclaimed, “Your dog is going to die”. Yes, I put that statement in quotations because that is what she ACTUALLY said to my husband and me. I barely held it together since I was already worried about our pup with her cleft palate and her currently dealing with pneumonia. She proceeded to inform us that we needed to get the cleft palate repaired or our puppy was going to die. We knew this and had done / doing our research into the repair procedure. The fact that she just walked back into the room and told us “our dog is going to die” without ANY background explanation was absolutely awful. As well, she acted like we were completely awful, ignorant owners who didn’t look after their dog and were leading it to a death sentence.
Other experiences we’ve had included: A) The receptionists misinforming us about procedures and prices, B) Dr. Bradler did not send the vet referral form to NC State Vet School for our pup’s cleft palate consult and then proceeded to blame it on NC State Vet School for losing the referral form. This is incorrect since I called the vet school myself and asked if they received it and found out it was an ONLINE form, so Dr. Bradler just didn’t do her job, C) A “teeth cleaning” that HAH said they do that took 5 minutes, charged us $40, teeth were not clean afterwards, AND our dog had blood on her when we got her back.
I could go on, but those are the major complaints I have and were enough for us to finally say, “no more” and go to a different vet.
From our experience, Dr. Bradler’s bedside manner is non-existent. She is degrading to her colleagues and appears to have no empathy for her clients. I recently discovered that Dr. Gervais no longer works there so I personally take that as a sign that HAH is not a good workplace and my observations were correct.
Only good thing about this place is that it appeared to be very clean whenever we were there. Read Less
