He received his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University (1976) and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine (1981). Dr Haggerty is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Dental Association.

I posted this comment on Deep River Veterinary Hospital's FaceBook Page yesterday, but I wanted to make sure Richard C. Haggerty Jr., DVM was recognized for the wonderful professional he is; therefore, I decided to re-post what I wrote for all to see. He is one fabulous Veterinarian surrounded by the most caring staff ever! It is long but worth reading if you are in need of the BEST care for your beloved pets!
It's my opinion, and I do KNOW others who feel the very same way I do, that Dr. Richard C. Haggerty, Jr., is one of the best, if not THE BEST Veterinarian, hands down. Once again, he diagnosed my Molly's pain, spot on within minutes of his examination of her on Friday, giving her an injection to alleviate her discomfort and prescription to remedy her inflammation, not to mention CALMING THE NEARLY DISTRAUGHT FEARS OF MOLLY'S HUMAN (me) in the process. Dr. Haggerty is a fabulous Veterinarian, a compassionate man, who never lets his profession interfere with his wonderful personality as a caring friend. He has surrounded himself with a caring staff who treat you like family. Who could ever ask for anything more to care for your beloved pets and their humans. Thank you ALL for always caring and always being there in the good times as well as the bad. I will never leave this practice!!

As can be seen by my facebook avatar, I can be a pretty grumpy person at times. However, my pets do love me, and Dr Haggerty has been taking care of them for at least 20 years. In good times and bad he has been there to fix the small things and hold my hand through the big ones. You will not find a better vet in this area. I highly recommend him and his staff not only for their knowledge, but also for their compassion and care for the animals that they serve.

I have been a faithful client of Deep River Veterinary Hospital since 2005. I moved to Dr. Haggerty's practice and have found him (and his staff) to provide nothing but excellent care for my THREE CATS and TWO DOGS. Recently I had to have one of the cats operated on to have a gangrenous limb removed. My Cat has made a most excellent recovery. The surgery was complicated and I found my bill for services most fair.All of the Staff - EVERYONE is very considerate of my animals and others. When I joined Yelp recently, I was dismayed to see the reviews posted around mid November. Since my animals board at the Deep River, I asked the staff about the incident and was told that the animal climbed the fence and was given a tour of the outdoor fenced area. My concerns were addressed promptly and courteously.If you are looking for a Veterinarian in the High Point area, I urge you to visit with Dr. Haggerty and his staff. I think you will be pleasantly pleased!!
