My first visit to this practice with my 5 month old puppy was a great experience. The staff is friendly, helpful, efficient and loving towards my baby. Dr. Beck was awesome. He took time to answer questions and gave me lots of good advice. Most of all he was loving and caring to Sophie. Check in and check out was a breeze which is another plus. My son is a student at HPU and has a new puppy.  I initially searched on Yelp for a vet in the area and since we don't know the city I chose this clinic based solely on Yelp reviews. My son set off for the first appointment and wow - how disappointing.  I was not with him but could not imagine what could have gone so wrong after reading such great reviews online prior to the visit.  I placed a call to inquire and as it turns out, Dr. Beck was off that day and Edgar's appointment was scheduled with a fill-in Veterinarian.  Big Mistake..... I was encouraged to return and give Dr. Beck himself a chance before writing off this clinic.  I scheduled Edgar's next visit with Dr. Beck himself and followed up via telephone the morning of the appt to verify that Edgar would be seeing him personally.  The visit with Dr. Beck was wonderful.  He spent ample amount of time with my son (who is a first-time pet owner) and Edgar.  Dr. Beck was kind, patient and thoroughly explained everything that he did.  He allowed time for questions and provided encouraging feedback.  So glad we gave Emerywood Veterinary Clinic a second chance. My dog was hit by a car a few years back. We drove straight to emerywood vet, and when we arrived we met Dr. Beck in the parking lot. When we explained what happened he said "Sorry, we have no staff in. I can't help you" and got in his car and left. He clearly has no passion for animals nor their wellbeing and I would not recommend this practice to anyone. Read Less

We have been going to Dr. Beck for years with all of our pets for their regular checkups. We recently needed his help on a deeper level when our dog was attacked by another dog while we were out of town on vacation. Dr. Beck had to perform the 2nd surgery to help try to save the ear and leg from infection. We are so thankful for the extra time Dr. Beck took after the extensive surgery to teach us how to care for her at home. He was very professional, yet personally as he connected to us and our pet. He keeps me reasonable when I'm overreacting, and he cares about my dogs, even my problem child, who needs a muzzle to get a shot. Very kind, very professional. I have been taking my chocolate lab to Dr Beck and his crew for 7 years. Always a great experience. Most recently surgery was performed on my Wendy girl and I must say he reviewed the entire procedure with me and we were able to take her home that day. She's recuperating wonderfully. Such a great vet! Not only do the staff comfort my cat well, but when she peed through her carrier onto their floor and I felt terrible, they took her carrier to the back and cleaned it for my ride home. They are just so sweet here! Read Less

I like and trust Dr.Beck. He took good care of my 10 year old Yorkie "Romeo" . I do the best I can for my dogs and wish I had more money for treatment. Dr.Beck is sensitive to the fact and doesn't make you feel guilty about it.Read Less

I have been taking my dogs to Emerywood vet for over 10 years now and it is the best veterinary office I have ever been to! Dr. Beck is very reasonable and will not charge you for things you do not need. His office staff is very friendly and also very helpful. My dogs have had several procedures done here and they have all recovered extremely well after surgery. I would definitely recommend this veterinary hospital to anyone! Read Less

I love, love, love Dr. Beck.  He's a genuinely kind, thoughtful, caring vet, but he's not cloying.  He's very down-to-earth.  He always gives me his full attention, he answers all of my questions thoroughly, and he assuages my (often neurotic) fears about my dogs.  He provides sound, sane advice.  (So, he TELLS me about the option for the $10,000 treatment that will prolong life by MAYBE a couple months, but he also makes gentle suggestions about the quality-of-life care that is both ethical and financially feasible.)He doesn't try to sell me stuff I don't need, but he gives me honest recommendations and appraisals of products that could be helpful to me.When my puppy recently had an allergic reaction to her vaccines, I was prepared because he'd already told me that this breed was particularly prone to that.  (Setting expectations goes a long way, especially for an overprotective "new mom" like me.)  When I called him anyway, panicked because I hadn't bought the Benadryl he'd suggested I have on hand, he invited me to come to the office for a shot of Prednisone.  He stayed AFTER CLOSE to administer it, and then he didn't charge me.He never insults my intelligence or makes me feel like a bad mother, but instead always makes me feel that my concerns are valid and that I'm on the right path.I started going to this vet primarily because the office is quite close to my house, but I stayed because of the phenomenal staff.The techs, by the way, are also wonderful.  They look forward to seeing my sweet, better-socialized dogs, and they are very empathetic to my "problem child."I believe it's Dr. Beck's wife who runs the desk, and she's always very helpful, compassionate, and welcoming.The emphasis is on quality care and relationships, so there are no bells and whistles.  The office doesn't look like the epitome of The Future of Animal Medicine, but the people are great, the prices are reasonable, and the care is appropriate but not over-the-top.  (E.g. I don't think you're likely to see doggie cosmetic surgery anytime soon.  He's not going to insist that you cook all your dogs' meals fresh every day.  He's not likely to recommend you get Fifi's chakras realigned.)  I appreciate this manageable, comfortable approach.  If you live in High Point, I HIGHLY recommend this practice. I have been taking all of my animals (three dogs of varying size and breeds and two cats) to Dr. Beck for years. He has a wonderful reputation and with good reason. I read the review by "Sydney" and am not sure why he would have received such service. I have always been extremely happy with his treatment of my animals, his follow up, willingness to answer all of my questions, and so on. As for the other reviewer's mother's cat. There are lots of cats, particularly solely indoor cats that are not on heartworm preventative or get tested for it. Dr. Beck advises vaccines based on what is necessary and what the OWNER TELLS HIM the animal does. If you say your cat NEVER goes outdoors, he does not ask you to waste money on leukemia vaccines, but does give you the option to get it if you would like...same with heartworms for cats. They are not like dogs which go outside all the time for bathroom use and would therefore necessitate heartworm testing and vaccines. I cannot help but also think that perhaps the previous reviewer left out some important symptoms that maybe he, even unintentionally, mentioned to the second vet which would suggest he run further tests. In my opinion Dr. Beck and his staff are great, and even though I now live 45 minutes away, I still take my animals to him. Read Less
