The staff is very friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. The vet was kind, patient and seemed happy to answer all of the questions I had. She gave me multiple options for my dog's allergies, rather than just push the expensive, brand name medication. I had the impression that three staff genuinely cares about helping you and your pet. This place is the king of bait and switch and upcharging. Took my Labradore here and he was diagnosed with an ACL tear. When I asked for an initial quote, I was told $1800. After deliberating the decision and weighing responsible pet ownership against financial stewardship, we requested to schedule the surgery. Three days later, we received a call to notify us that we were booked with a traveling surgeon. When I went to confirm the price, the quote changed to $2200-$2400. I was assured though that it “included everything” (meds, follow-up appts, etc.). When I arrived the day of the surgery, I was given a price sheet to sign that tallied up to $2600-$2800, and the diff wasn’t surgery related. Rather, if I wanted more safety for my pet while under anesthesia, then I had to pay more for EKG and blood work. What really grinded my gears though was when I picked up my pet the next day and they charged me for an e-collar!! Did they really expect a Labradore to not lick the wound!?! He obviously was going to need the e-collar. In fact, the surgeon prescribed it in the aftercare notes! What happened to “everything needed is included in price”? At post surgery follow-up, more antibiotics were prescribed at additional expense. Plus, I needed to shell out another $120 for medicine to treat ear infections exacerbated by wearing of the necessary e-collar. All said and done, I’m at nearly DOUBLE the initial quoted price! From what I can tell so far, the traveling surgeon did a great job, and she explained in her consult that her fees haven’t changed in a decade. Had to put our little 3 year old dog to rest, after she was diagnosed with inoperable osteosarcoma. When we entered the room, we were met with a darkened area with candles lit and a blanket on the floor, and of course, tissues. Dr. Maxwell and her assistant were very caring, and helped make our horrible situation bearable. It is so much better than a hospital type atmosphere. We are now clients with our other dog. We have a 14yr old Min Pin who has had diarrhea for over a week. Tried calling early in the week (not a regular patient) and was told they were booked. His condition had not improved during the week so when my wife saw the parking lot was empty she stopped in to see if they could get him in today. She was told they were closing at 4pm (This was between 2:30-3) plus they were double booked. She said we could go to the 24hr vet in Wilmington if he got worse. One of the most veterinary clinics I have ever been to! Took my dog there when she had gotten sick, they got her in within an hour of me calling saying she needed to be seen. Our Vet was Dr. Maxwell, she was absolutely outstanding. Answered all of my questions and then some. The prices at this clinic are fantastic as well. I had my first experience with this office under less than ideal circumstances. Our cat was sick and ultimately had to be put to sleep at that visit. Dr Larson was professional but compassionate and I was given as much time as I needed to say good-bye to our beloved Oliver. The staff was beyond kind and when I returned to get his ashes, again, the compassion was heartfelt. My son drew a picture for the staff of our cat and it was so kind to see the appreciation they had upon receiving it. A few months later I took our geriatric dog in and met Dr. Maxwell. She was also professional and great with Charlie. She gave me great info about a fatty lump he has and also a possible abscess on a tooth. I left feeling very satisfied that my dog was well cared for and loved just as my cat had been. For those who are concerned with wait times and/or front office staff, while I had no issues, I would contact Dr. Martin directly. He has offered his personal cell phone number on Facebook specifically for this reason. If that's not a business owner trying to make things right I don't know what is. I am new to the area and was looking for a reliable vet to take my dogs to. This place is really close to my house so I thought I would give them a try. I called and set up an appointment for a couple of days out, which was nice and convenient. When I arrived the place appeared to be clean and the staff was friendly. The waiting area is kind small and my dogs are wild, so that was a little challenging. My dogs were seen pretty much right at their scheduled appointment time, and the Dr. was great with them. I've had dogs all my life and I've moved around a bit, and still, this is by far the best vet I've ever been to. The staff is amazing with my fur babies and it's so obvious that everyone there genuinely cares about their well being. Not only is the service amazing, the prices are the most reasonable I've ever seen at any vet. The doctors are very kind and have no problem spending a little extra time to go over anything you don't understand. I had watched the community rave about Dr. Martin for some time. My last years visit for an ear infection was somewhat uneventful and she was fixed right up. This year Dr. Martin's skilled eye caught a life threatening issue with my girl. Dr. Martin helped me do everything within my budget to save her. He was always available to answer my questions and to help me understand what was happening at that time. He never offered false hope but was supportive of my decisions. My girl is no longer with us, but I have closure and had the opportunity to give her some extra TLC, say goodbye, and for her to pass peacefully at home. I am so thankful for the last two weeks I had with her and for Dr. Martin's compassion towards not only animals but humans as well. If you are looking for an amazing Vet, you've found him. Read Less

My first experience was, sadly, having my cat put to sleep. Dr Larson and the staff were so amazing. The compassion and kindness were so genuine and I can't even think of the right word because it was that awesome. I understand this is a business and probably the only one of its kind serving the Holly Ridge and Hampstead area, so it can get very busy. But when you're the only one in the waiting room, and still takes a hour to be finally seen by the doctor. That's just unprofessional. A horrible experience before I even walked in, speaking over the phone to someone at this animal hospital, I explained that my dog was mauled, she quickly responded that my best option was to take my dog to an Emergency Animal hospital that can take better care of my dog, since their facilities cannot support my dogs needs or overnight stays."WHAT?" She didn't even invite me to Holly Ridge AH to immediately provide "Triage" for my dog! But instead she did suggest that I take me dog to the ER hospital in Jacksonville which opens at 6pm, "I called her at 4pm". My measures of service for a business are punctuality and professionalism. Competence is implied in their business title. Dr. Martin has a good thing going out here with this clinic. Today I visited here with family for our dog. The appointment was at 8am. We were checked in and seated by ten of and waited until twenty after before asking for a status. I understand that the business may be busy but, with only one other in the waiting room who was seen promptly, if you cannot honor an 8am appointment, don't make one with me. When we asked about the hold up we were met with disdain by a veterinary assistant. Her condescension was overtly evident. Both of my measures of good service trampled in one morning. The office is put together well, very clean and the lady who took care of us in the examination room was very professional. Dr. Martin, as well, was very professional. My dog was had gotten in a fight and I called the vet being where we normally go and they were able to fit her in at 4:30 right before Dr. Martin had left. She had her ear torn open, they were all very calm, very compassionate towards my dog, I felt bad because she was dripping blood all over the floor and the walls, but they reassured me that it was okay, she was taken in and they decided to do sutures it's took about 30 minutes. The assistants were all very nice, explained the procedure an all the cost and worked with me on a payment plan. I'm very grateful for Dr. Martin and his team, I'm always happy with my visits. We were vacationing on Topsail Island when our 16 year old lab mix took a turn for the worst. We knew she was in pain and could not make the four hour ride back home. My husband called Holly Ridge Vet Hospital and asked if they could help us. They worked us in that afternoon. Never have we been to a vet's office that offered the compassion for our animal and us as they did. Tootsie left this world in a quiet room on a soft throw they placed on the floor for her. We were allowed to stay with her for as long as we needed. If you are looking for a place to care for your pet, this is where you should go. If we lived closer we would bring our other two dogs here for all of their veterinary care. We wish we could give them more than 5 stars because they deserve it! Read Less

Amazing and this not for a 1 time visit either. I have been here multiple times for my pup and my kitten. I honestly can't find a place to start as to why this place deserves five stars. Cost, we all know that when a furbaby needs to be taken to the vet that it isn't cheap. This place $. Not only are they very fairly priced but they do what's best for the animal without breaking your wallet, meaning no unnecessary test or medications. Which leads me to say the reason they are able to do this is because Dr. Martian(the vet) is extremely knowledgable with this field and the animals. I was astounded of his vast knowledge and being able to diagnose problems so efficiently and quickly. He is also very passionate about animals which is a huge plus for me. You wouldn't want someone working on your four legged baby who was to fond of them, would you? He is so good with Dogs as well. My 2 year old German shepherd has a fear of men currently( the dreaded fear stage) and he just does not want to be near them at all. Not only was dr. Martian able to be in the same room without even making my dog feel uncomfortable BUT he was able to pet AND fully examine him including his stomach which is a big deal since its a vulnerable area for most dogs. I am so pleased with the care my two mutts received at Holly Ridge VC. The facility is very clean and the staff was so friendly to us. They were able to open the entire back area up for them to familiarize themselves with and they didn't push any unwanted services or Vx on me. I opted to forego a Vx that my dogs had never had and instead just requested that they only re-up ones that were due. There were no questions asked and they also helped me adjust my purchase of preventatives so that I'd be eligible for rebates. Although, mine are approaching 7 years and have never had a dental cleaning, we've lapsed on their care and I was sure it would be recommended. The vet was realistic and said, "not really necessary." I am very happy with the offered services here as they have laser therapy for injury and after having to euthanize a past pet, I am pretty adamant that I want my pets at home when they pass. I've heard that these services are rare but was surprised to see that this clinic actually does offer them. I could NOT be happier. Read Less
