I love some of the Changes Soutern oaks is making. Having someone at the front desk is a good and positive change. The ladies behind the desk are constantly rushed and the lady manning the desk is able to provide a sympathetic ear and help take some of the pressure off the folks waiting and the ladies behind the desk. I have been using southern oaks animal hospital for many many years!! They are just amazing!! I have had some issues with a few of our pets in the last month or so and Dr. Chavis has been so helpful and amazing during the process. I’ve never had a vet get on the floor with one of my animals like she did. You can definitely tell it’s about the love of animals when she is caring for your pet. Filled out paperwork online and called to make appointment. Showed up for the appointment no paperwork found from online and they didn't schedule my appointment. Waited over an hour to be seen and another 25 minutes to checkout and pay. Vet and Vet tech were awesome. Read Less

Lobby is always busy and FULL of animals. Not exactly a good situation when you have a small, anxious dog. Was told to drop my dog off for a teeth cleaning by 9am. Was there at 9 and didn't have anyone even acknowledge me until 9:40. During teeth cleaning i was called and told my dog needed 5, possibly 6 teeth removed. I was obviously highly concerned, but told them to do what they had to. When they called to tell me I could pick him up, they were very informative and nice, but they had only removed 4 teeth. Mmmmm. When I came to pick my dog up, I again wasn't acknowledged again and sat around waiting forever to get checked out. I think the animal care givers care about the animals, but the lobby and waiting room times are extremely undesirable. Who has time to wait around like this, let alone expose (for an extended period of time) an anxious pet to  so many other animals? What's the point of making an appointment? Read Less

I don't have an issue with the facility; however, I understand customer service and how busy it can get. Just a suggestion...they need to better prioritize customers. I have taken my pets to this place twice now. This place does not greet you or give you guidance when you walk in the door, so figure it out yourself. Also, having an appointment is pointless unless you fight for their attention when you walk in. They put me in "walk in" pile and I didn't get back for an hour and a half when I was on time for my appointment because they put me in as a walk in. With three pets, that's a long time to wait!!!They don't return calls and they don't prescribe allergy meds for more than 30 days. That gets expensive and time consuming. I took my dog in for an allergy and the doctor barely peaked at her at all before giving her a Med that has not helped but made things worse. I won't be going back. I only put two stars because they had a guy there keeping the place clean most of the time I was there the first time. The second time he wasn't there and it was a little smelly. Read Less

I read a lot of reviews before deciding where to take my fur babies. The facility had very fast appointments and opening that fit my schedule and was close by. The only reviews I could find that where bad where the front desk staff. But I took my babies in on a Wed afternoon when most people say it is very busy, and had no problems at all. I walked in and it clearly states you need to sign in, which I did, and no one greeted me or said hi, but that did not discourage me one bit. I work in the health care field and know that at peek moments you can't say hello to everyone that walks up to the desk. I sat and waited about 4-5 minutes for my name to be called and the lady that spoke to me was very polite and professional which I appreciate. She gave me some forms to fill out and asked me to bring my id back when I was done. I filled out the papers and came back to the desk and she immediately addressed me, and said it would take a few minutes to get me back. I waited about 5-6 minutes and a very friendly tech took us back to a room. She and another tech asked if I had any questions and explained in detail everything they were about to do. They were gentle with my babies, and very friendly and kind. She said it would take 10-20 minutes for the test results to be complete and the vet would be in. And in about 15 minutes the vet came into the room. She was very thorough checking ears, eyes, body, coat, and teeth. She gave me the test results and explained a lot of things I had questions about. When all was complete I went to the front desk and a young and perky young woman checked me out and gave me a huge amount of information on heartworm and flea control that I was interested in and gave me price list for both babies and gave personal recommendations of what her babies use. All and all, I have nothing bad to say. They explained everything, were polite and professional, and gave up front price list and accommodating hours and schedules. Always a great experience with the employees at this vet clinic. I can't give it a 5 star rating due to the amount of time I wait every scheduled appointment. I have been taking my dog here for 6 years. The prices are reasonable and the vets are great. The only issue I have is being completely ignored when I walked into the facility last time. We brought our dog here to be euthanized unfortunately. This is such a difficult thing to do. We were treated exceptionally well by everyone. Much compassion was shownWe were not hurried and got to say when we were ready to do the procedure. We will be returning to have our other dogs cared for by this place. We had her cremated. I have been using Dr Kent Dean since the beginning of his practice. Dr Dean is one of the most caring and compassionate veterinarians in this area. He truly cares about his clients and their pets. Dr Dean is an outstanding veterinarian. I have nothing but praise for his staff and his facility. They all work together as a team to insure that your pets get the best care. I have read some recent negative reviews on this webpage and felt it necessary to respond. Yes... they are a busy practice. .. at times you have to wait. Common sense tells you they are busy because many people in the community have heard of this practice and know it to be the best. We want our furry family members to have the very best care. Ask yourself if you are patronizing a business often and their not busy. ..you begin to question your patronage as to why the business doesn't have customers. If you expect perfection in people and businesses you are always going to be disappointed. We all have different expectations. You can't please everyone all this time. It's not possible. Dr Dean and his staff are not perfect...but they will give your pet the best care possible and try to insure that you and your pet have a long happy life together. Rude front office staff. long wait times even with an apt. They claim they see rabbits but they have very little knowledge of them. These are the rudest front desk staff. They seem to be very unhappy every time I have walked in. No one will ever go out of there way to be pleasant. This is a very busy place and the vets and techs are great but that's where it ends. It's quite smelly. More than any other vet that I have been in. The wait is extremely long constantly. I dropped the insulin I have for my cat and needed it replaced. I called at 1 and was told at least till 4. Get there at 3:30 and was told that it's not ready or approved and basically was given no real time or concern when it would be. So said just call when it is and I will come back. So now it's 5:45 and they are closed and I have no medicine. So I will not be spending my money to get treated like crap and from a place that has no concern that my animal receive his meds. NEVER go to this place. First and foremost I had made an appt for my dogs a week prior to showing up. Once I arrived the girl at the front desk proceeds to tell me I never had an appointment.... LOL okay.. Moving on. So for their mistake they tell me they can get me in a room but it'll take awhile since "I didn't have an appt" a girl comes up to me, reads to me what my dogs are getting and I confirm she then tells me I can't go back with my dogs... When I asked why she got an attitude with me" because its policy" once again LOL. My dogs come back to me after about 7 minutes or so and she tells me it'll be just a minute until I can check out. literally 35 minutes goes by and I still have not checked out. Keep in mind it's only me and one other person in the lobby ( which was nasty by the way) I walk up to the counter "can I check out now please" and the tall blonde says " yes when I call you up here, so you can just wait where you were" I understand I couldn't go back with my dogs because of policy whatever but reception is killing this business. Someone needs to give them a talking instead of babying them.. Everytime I come in here there's always a problem. I'm never coming here again and it's a shame. In response to the negative post about the improper "size" of the vaccine, the author needs to be educated. Believe it or not, vaccinations only come in one size. They are one of the rare medications that are "one size fits all." From Chihuahua to Great Dane, the dose is the same. Likely, the poor puppy experienced a fatal anaphylactic vaccine reaction. Never go here! Yesterday, we adopted a kitten from animal control and when they gave us a list of vets they can send him to for neutering we picked Southern Oaks since it was close to our house. That was a mistake... They called this morning and said they received our kitty and went through what was included and what would be extra if we opted for it. Well, in that they said the blood work was included before sedation to make sure everything was ok. I even said, "well, as long as it's included sure." We opted out of everything else since we were going to be taking the kitty to our vet in the coming days to be all checked out. Later, we came to pick up our new kitty to a $61 bill. The "included" bloodwork ended up being $61. I'm not mad about paying what our bill is, but I'm mad that they charged us for something they explained was included for free. After I told them that the person on the phone said it was included the lady then started to get rude and said that no one on her staff would make that mistake. Well, I hate to tell you, but they did. She said it was included, and I even relayed back to make sure it was for sure included on the phone. We took our cat here the other day because she has an ear infection and an ingrown nail. This is our first veterinarian experience here in fayetteville. The front staff wasn't the most pleasant when I came in. My wife was already there with our cat and she said the same thing that no one welcomed her or even acknowledged her when she came in so that was frustrating but luckily Dr. Gross made up for that. She was extremely nice and welcoming and wanted what was best for our cat. She told us exactly everything she wanted to do and made sure we were comfortable with it first. This Vet office is AMAZING!!! After a disappointing experience at another vet office in Fayetteville, I decided to seek a second opinion here. I saw Dr. Rivera and she was (and has since been) wonderful! The vets here take time with me when I bring my animals in, they have worked with me to make sure I can afford the extra care my elderly dogs are in need of, and they have been attentive to my concerns on every level. They are VERY fairly priced, they are professional and respectful and I sincerely believe that they want the best for the animals they care for and want their owners to have access to quality care. I love Southern Oaks! I recently brought my extremely shy dog in to get her shots updated, and everyone was so nice and patient with her. She was spoiled with dog treats! They always answer my questions with a smile on their face, even if it's a dumb question. I love the girls at the front, I actually went in today with a friend to get medicine for her cat and they asked how my dog was doing. They actually remembered her! It's obvious they love what they do, and it really put me at ease about bringing my dog to the vet. I liked them so much that I'm bringing her back in to get spayed in a few weeks. I think their prices are fair and possibly even cheaper than other vets (at least from what I've heard). Even so I'll continue to go here simply because I love the staff and the care my dog received.
