I have been taking my dogs to Huntersville Animal Care hospital since I moved to NC in 2005.  I recommend this veterinary hospital to anyone who loves their pets.  The staff is wonderful and Dr Reische has been amazing with my dogs and their treatment (and myself and my million questions).  I love my dogs and it means a lot to me to walk into a place where the staff and doctor love them too and my dogs love it here (they get so much attention). I rate these folks five stars and more. Early last Sunday morning (5-7-17) my wife and I were awakened by our 12 year old Collie crying outside our window; she could no longer stand on her hind legs. We knew for ten months that one day it would come to this, we were just hoping that it would not have been this soon. Lady was a member of our family. So instead of getting ready for church we got dressed and began to search the internet and make calls to see who might help us with our suffering. Huntersville Animal Hospital was the only place we found open. So through tears we loaded our Lady up and began our dreaded journey to say goodbye to the best dog any one could ever have. From the front ladies at the check-in counter to the staff in the back, we felt like they really cared about our pain . We were quickly taken to a room where we were told to spend as much time as we needed to say goodbye to our baby. A lady came in to handle the paperwork and there was a mix up in the price my wife was told on the phone and the payment that the lady asked for. The lady went to check on the mix up, and when she returned she said you owe nothing. We asked are you sure we don't mind paying, she assured us, no this is on us. So we spent a few more minutes rubbing and hugging and telling our Lady we loved her and goodbye. They wheeled her out to our car in a white cardboard coffin and loaded her up for her final car ride. When we got her home and all the kids gathered around to say their goodbyes, we opened her box to rub her one last time. We were impressed to see that the staff at HAH had washed the tears off Ladys face and brushed her fur clean . We recently moved to Huntersville and needed a vet on short notice. We found this vet to be the closest to our location and ideal for our emergency of a tooth knocked out of one of my dogs. The need for the vet was my female pup knocked out my male pups canine tooth. The tooth came out completely intact and no signs of chips, cracks or missing pieces to indicate any remnants, as I had the root in hand, were still in the gaping socket of the tooth. I was already stressing the well being of my pup and his ability to eat and of course the cost of surgery. I knew there was no need for an x-ray, just the surgery to patch my pup up. As I explained what happened the vet tech was very condescending and cocky over college football...(???Really???) It didn't make me feel good, when dealing with a pup that will need several stitches in surgery, and they pushed getting x-rays that my pup didn't need. They felt they had to do their due diligence, but I expressed I was already on a tight budget. so I told myself I wouldn't go back on the sole reason they didn't listen to me and my needs for my dogs care. (1st incident) Months pass and I have my female pup bleeding when she tinkled. She had a UTI, I was sure. Took her to an emergency care clinic, they prescribed Amoxicillin for possible crystals. But again I was given the most expensive option before the basic urinalysis. I elected to wait for a second opinion. My mistake for taking her back to HACH. Where after an X-ray found that she did have massive stones in her. I got wet food and dry food from them as it's medicated. They stated they would send me an email with estimates on the surgery I couldn't pay for at the time. This is when they charged me for a Biohazard Waste Disposal of $4.50 for their wiping the floor clean of my pups bloody urine on top of the $370+ bill....(2nd incident). They corrected it because I called them out on it and the tech acted as if she needed some approval to take it off my account. I needed to get more food from them, to hold her over for a week, but they close @6pm today. So I asked them to send me her prescription via email much like any other medical professional, and they refused. Now I have food my dog won't eat with the need to get more with no prescription because it's hostage at HACH. (3rd incident) Run from this place. They are an unethical business with no real interest in their customers needs, or the service they provide. I'm embarrassed for going there a second time. Read Less

The staff at Huntersville Animal Care Hospital are super friendly. They treat my dogs like they'd treat their own pets. When my dog was seen for a skin problem, they even called the next day to check on her and see how we were both doing! Read Less

I strongly disagree with the negative comments about Huntersville Animal Hospital; I am a retired MD, so I am not ignorant of medical issues.My little dog has received excellent care, and is seen promptly in an emergency. I find the fees very reasonable. IMO, there are some people who like to complain, and it is not fair to the business being reviewed. Read Less

If I could give less than one star I would. A family member took their kitten there and the staff gave the kitten two vaccinations (distemper and leukemia) without telling my family member what they were doing.  (Not surprising, a vet trying to run up a bill.) This particular (and expensive) breed is highly sensitive to vaccinations and any vet should know to never give this breed more than one vaccination at a time. The kitten now has a very high temperature, can't walk, and is in extreme pain and crying. The vet was not helpful at all. While the kitten is too young for anti-inflammatories or pain meds, later, at another vet, the kitten was given fluids and a small amount of steroid, while this vet offered nothing. Clearly, this vet and staff are sub-par, unfeeling, and not well-trained. They treated my family member callously., not to mention, we are unsure whether the kitten will survive. Amazing and compassionate staff. I plan to move from my current vet and go to Huntersville after such a great experience. They made my pet feel extremely comfortable during the exam and that is hard to do. He hates going to the vet, but after a few minutes there, Dr. Reische had him cuddling. I liked the fact that the Dr. didn't try to sell me on things that I didn't need. Very honest and the staff was so nice too. The techs know their jobs. You can tell. There is a special place in HELL for the office mngr of this pathetic excuse for an "animal care" facility. I have been taking my pets here forever! Nearly 16 years. And there are literally 20 other vets within a 10 mile radius, so I've had choices. Today I called, in tears, with a terrible situation on my hands. Instead of the caring help I expected, I was told by the office manager to call somewhere else, and good luck. I'm glad my years of loyalty come so rewarded. Sobbing, I hung up the call. I've never felt more alone. I luckily found the compassion I needed, on what can only be described as one of the hardest days of my life, from my very next call. I explained my situation, as best I could through my tears, expecting from my last call, I would need to beg for this woman to help me. And she said "stop right there, can you go ahead and bring her in now? Of course we can help you". Making it quite obvious that the previous facility I called COULD have helped me, they just didn't want to... I will NEVER bring my animals here again. And I won't rest until everyone I love knows how my baby and I were treated at our most desperate time of need. You are terrible people. I don't know how you sleep at night. I am a working college kid so money is tight and I never thought I'd adopt an animal but then came the the day I found a 6 week old kitten on the side of the road. I kept her but notice days later that fleas were infesting her skin and she did not have any shots, obviously. I was referred to HACH and it was all up from there! The technicians gave me advice for some of her problems, a free comb, and set me up with an appointment that worked well with my full-time schedule. When Marcy and I went to her appointment, everyone was so friendly and check-in was quick and easy. The vet was knowledgeable and personable, I was given a free trial medication for fleas (thank god) and a coupon book (which I loved, refer to line 1), and I could tell there was a personal interest in my little baby! Days later, they called to check up on my kitty cat to see how she was doing after the shots. Needless to say, I found my provider for my kitty cat and we are very happy!!Read Less

Had been going to this vet and thought it was a very good clinic. However, I saw the news reports on Trifexis killing dogs (the product they recommended) and went to return the potentially poisonous product and they would not give a refund. They also seemed to not care that a product they were recommending could kill my animal and dismissed my worries as "that's just the internet" ignoring the fact that it was a series of news reports. I will NEVER take my dog back here again! I brought him in being new to Huntersville, because I thought something was wrong in his "stool" and I was right. after THREE WEEKS(and a $60 charge JUST for walking in the door) they called me to tell me it was worms. That's not exactly something you wait to tell a client. Furthermore, I asked over the phone how much the medication would be, and was told about fifteen dollars. The tech told me to bring my dog down to the office, because the dosage was determined by weight. When I did, the dog weighed in at 32 pounds. I was then charged $64 for de-worming medication. As I said earlier, I was told it would be fifteen dollars. When I asked, the $15 was for dogs 10-12 pounds. There is NO WAY my dog gained 20 pounds in three weeks, they are a complete rip off, and Dr. Reisch is extremely unfriendly, and very short with his visits. After visiting a couple weeks ago I am so dissappointed to find that many people are gone including Dr. Johnson. There was no announcement to anyone that I know of and when asked about it the remaining staff seem very uncomfortable as is if they don't know what to say. I expected more. Read Less

I take all my pets...I have many rescued kitties and a chihuahua to Dr. Reishe at Huntersville Animal Care. I always feel like they are in the best of hands. Dr. Reishe also has extensive knowledge of more holistic approaches as well as traditional veterinary medicine. I like that. His staff is awesome. They always take care of my pets as though they were their own! Throughout treatment, I was given a complete breakdown of cost, so there were no surprises when 'm ready to check out. I moved to the area several years ago and when looking for a vet, I selected a place close to my house. Even though that vet was okay, I never felt really at home till I changed to Huntersville Animal Care. I attended their community fun day and saw how happy the staff was and how many clients came out to just celebrate and have fun. My kids loved the face painting, balloons and bouncey house. I decided to make the move to this vet and I am so glad. I also learned they are big supporters of no-kill shelters and have done a lot with the new Cornelius Shelter. For a shelter to come to their fun day and endorse them says a lot. Hope they do a fun day this year again!!! BTW- My cat can be a real terror and they can get him to purr. Amazing. Read Less

They have cared for three of my cats and a Cocker Spaniel since 1989. The staff is very caring about the animals and the doctors have correctly diagnosed my animals for a long time. I had a cat for over 16 years that had diabetes and they helped my to care for him at home and taught me how to give him insulin shots and took great care of him. The pets that I have had to put down have been handled with great sensitivity and sincere care. I will go to them for the forseeable future because they truly care for me and my pets. Read Less

I have been taking my pets to Huntersville Animal Care for over 16 years and I have always had a positive experience. My animals actually get excited about going there. One of my dogs loves Dr. R so much that she sounds like she is talking when she sees him. All of the staff there really love animals. You can tell that they love their jobs too. I really appreciate the way the vets take the time to explain things to me and they always let me know the options and the costs up front. If the vets don't know if something will work, they will tell you so and let you be part of the decision making for the care of your pet. I like that kind of honesty. I also like the fact that the staff knows the name of each of my pets and remembers special things about them. I will always go to their hospital as long as they are there. Read Less

I am extremely picky about where my pets board and who handles them. I have always loved the staff at Huntersville Animal Care. Care is the key word. They really do. I have had a quite a few rescue pets that needed special love and the staff there from the front desk to the vets and even other clients in the waiting room have always been so kind and gentle with my special needs pets. I know that several rescue groups have called on them for help and they have always been so willing to help out. Dr. Reische even helped me design special assistance for one of my pets. He also came to my home when I had to put one animal in God's hands. When I told him that I was not well myself, he came there and took care of everything so that I would not have to be in public and crying over the loss. I will always remember their kindness. I also hope others will not rely on the two negative reviews. Different people have different expectations, and I can only speak for myself, but I would recommend them to anyone. And it smells great in there. They clean it so well, it doesn't have that animal urine smell like a lot of other places that I have been. May God bless all those who care for animals!!!! Read Less

I am a former Vet Tech and know a few things about good pet care. My cat has been struggling with health issues his whole life.(catch 22 of working with animals. lol) I went here as a brand new client and did not tell the staff I used to be a vet tech. From the initial set up of the appointment to follow up of my pets care, the staff was excellent with their communication. I was able to schedule an appointment same day, and when I called to let them know I was going to be late due to traffic, they were able to slide me to the next open appointment. The Tech was very professional and knowledgeable, as well as personable. Dr. Johnson was very personable as well as compassionate. She was sensitive to our needs emotionally and financially and never pressured us with the difficult decisions we had before us. Our cat had some labwork done, and she called early the next morning to let us know the results, prescribe treatment, and discussed our case with the other veterinarian in case we needed to bring him back in if treatment failed. We may have to face the reality of putting our precious boy to sleep, but I know if we do, we have chosen the right people to help us with that. I see these other two reviews and know that each case is different and each Vet is different. They have their points, and I was not in their shoes, but some of the issues might be overreacting a bit. As pet lovers, we each have to find the right Vet and hospital that works for us. I have had several MD's for myself and my children in the past, and when I find one that works for me I stick with them. The same can definately apply to pet care. I had been a loyal customer for over 4 years until recently when I took my dog and for their annual visit. I wasn't aware when I had called in that the Dr. that normally cared for my pets for 4 years had left ? (that was a red flag). In addition to the annual exam, I needed the Dr. to look at my dog who was limping. I took both the cat and dog in the same exam room. The new Dr came in and was obviously a new smell to my 3 year-old lab and 9 year-old cat. Rather than making himself acquainted to my dog, he immediately picked her up to place her on the exam table and when she starting squirming (for obvious reasons - you don't pick up a dog when you first meet them!!!!) the Dr. then had his assistant hold my dog's feet while he 'slammed' and forced her to lie down on the table ? working her hurt knee when she was not in a comfortable state. The Dr. ignored her distress. I told the Dr. to stop what he was doing and started crying. He said - ""If you cry then your dog will know you don't support what I am doing"". I said 'Heck No' I don't support what you are doing and asked for him to take his hands off of my dog. I noticed that my cat had went under the waiting bench and before I knew it the assistant grabbed my cat by the neck and PULLED HER OUT from under the bench like she was a mop! He gave his reason for literally forcing my dog to lie down and said that the limp was serious, but wasn't real sure what the problem was because my dog would not lie still. But then he told me I needed to schedule surgery right away (that day) for a cost of around $2K. I questioned the diagnosis and got a 2nd opinion. I highly recommend anyone that has a pet ? not to step foot in Huntersville Animal Care Hospital. Read Less

We moved into Huntersville over this past summer. Our dog got into something that made her face swell up with an allergic reaction. My husband called HACH for an appointment, and they told him to come on in. When he got there with our dog, the clinic was completely empty, as it was first thing in the morning. Even though we were new to the area and needed to establish ongoing pet care and even though the clinic was completely empty, they STILL charged us $60 to ""work us in."" Unfortunately, whatever they did reduced the swelling, but over the next two days, our dog lost 10% of her body weight through a combination of vomitting and not eating so we had to take her back there out of need. Recently, our dog has had limping and we had an xray taken, which a friend of ours outside of the area told us that they over charged us for. Now we are trying to get a second opinion before spending another $600 on a biopsy, and HACH refuses to give us the films, which even PEOPLE can get from their doctors. The office manager hasn't returned calls and the staff said that she is in a meeting ALL DAY with no breaks (hard to believe), and we're still waiting on a call from the vet. Also, we're waiting to get the films back to the office from the specialist, which was great and sent the films back two-day, and even though they are probably in the mailbox today, the clinic only checks their mail every other day. Ridiculous that animals' health hangs in the balance, and it is too inconvenient for them to check their PO box more than two days a week, even when they know something is urgent. They checked it this morning, but won't be going back until MONDAY. My recommendation is to go somewhere that the staff and doctors care about the animals as much as the money they're taking.
