On Sunday evening the female emergency vet was rude, abrupt, and misdiagnosed my dog's neck injury as a sprain despite serious findings.  yesterday she had neck surgery at the Emergency vet hopsital in Matthews.  Tests there confirmed she had a spinal cord contusion and a telescopic cervical spine injury.  In addition, we were given the worst possible pain medication for this type of injury.  I wouldn't write this except she was unfeeling, condescending and didn't seem to care about my dog. While I don't recommend Cabarrus Emergency Veterinary Clinic as a relaxing place to spend one's vacation, this is exactly the situation in which I found myself last week. A tree fell on my fence, and my boys decided to go on walkabout. Unfortunately, one of them was struck by a vehicle and required immediate care.I found each member of the staff to be calm, caring, and knowledgeable. My dog is aggressive toward strangers and very difficult to work with, especially when in pain. Even so, the staff had all the skills and tools necessary to ensure that he received excellent care.Almost a week later he was feeling well enough to tangle with a copperhead, and we were back at the clinic. Even though they were well aware of what a jerk he can be, their level of care was consistently excellent. He is now in the process of recovery. I have nothing but respect for everyone who chooses to work in what must be the most stressful type of veterinary practice. Although I hope never to require their services again, I feel much better knowing that they are available and ready to help. My sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, techs, and entire staff. Read Less

Worst and most expensive vet I have ever been to! The vet was rude and not very professional. This vet lost my trust faster than anyone I have ever met! I did not let them treat my baby! My opinion is to avoid these people if possible. But in saying that don't let your baby suffer if you have no other options. I will be finding another option for my emergency vet. I suggest everyone else do the same before you need one and have a bad experience along with stress from a sick loved one. Read Less

Dr. Hunter and her team were excellent for me and my dog last night. He started vomiting every 5-10 minutes, and started vomiting blood. We got there fairly quickly, and they were able to see us right away. Took my dog back, and gave him IV meds for an anaphylactic reaction. To what, I'm still not sure. He started recovering in the room within 15-25min while we waited for the blood work to be run. Luckily it wasn't too bad, and we were able to take him home without additional IV fluids. But severe vomiting and diarrhea is nothing to mess around. Yes, it's costly, but it's worth it to know it may have saved our dog's life, and I'm very grateful to have this emergency option in times of need. Read Less

Just a forewarning-- Don't bring your pets here. I don't know if I came in on the wrong shift or if it's always the way it was, but my first visit to this Emergency Clinic was very unpleasant. My cat has always had an issue with chronic respiratory problems, and the day I brought her in was due to a flare up of this issue, and the worst we were hoping for was some sort of medicine that would aid her recovery. The second I walked in I knew it wasn't a very good atmosphere, as the woman at the counter was very rude. When we were finally in one of the rooms, a tech entered and immediately began assuming the worst of every symptom my cat was showing and diagnosing her before the doctor even assessed her. That made me feel like the lady had no clue what she was doing. None of them really seemed as if they knew what was going on; much less what to do or say. They obviously didn't communicate with each other cause none of them seemed to remember--much less KNOW what was on the paperwork we filled out at the beginning of the visit. They kept assuming different possibilities and jacking up the price of the visit over information that had no evidence at all. The bedside manner of all of these women I visited with was definitely lacking. Not to mention they handled my cat roughly. Just not a very good place-- Unless you favor bad attitude, useless information, and excessive pricing. Read Less

We took our cat here that was not eating. It's 95.00 just to bring him in. They said they needed to run some tests and brought out a quote that showed 280.00 to run them tests that they think may be wrong with him. Several hours went by and they said all the tests came back negative but his blood work does not look good. They said if we do nothing he would die and had another quote now showing 633.00. And they said they would give him antibiotics and fluids and run more test and do x-rays. Once again we said ok. Got a call at 530 am saying it looks like he has an infection and he's doing OK with the fluids they gave him. But would need to follow up with her regular vet for continued treatment. My son goes to pick him up at 8 o'clock in the morning and now he's being told a different story. They now say he is too weak and would need surgery which would cost up to $2000. And if we could not do that we should put him to sleep. And if we did the surgery it is very likely he would not survive. And now the bill is over 700. And now they want to charge us to put him to sleep. I don't think we should have to pay for their hypothesis. Every time they guess it cost us money. I think every test they do that did not come back with a result they should have to eat the cost not me. I do believe they were trying to help but at my expense. And at the end of the day my cat lost his life. Read Less

My dog had been brought in by a good semartian because he was lost. When my animal arrived they said he had an open wound to the abdomen an a abscesses that could have been treated with a course of antibiotics and possible stitches. Since my animal did not have his tag on when he arrived at the facility they felt as if it was best to put my animal to sleep. I contacted the facility the next day after I was notified that he was there & all the veterinarian could say was they put him to sleep without giving him a chance to be identified by his owner. The veterinarian clinic did not provide any emergency care for the animal at all not once did they attempt to care for him. The veterinarian stated she felt the dog was depress so they made the decision to put him down without even attempting to care for the animal or give the owner the chance to identify the animal. My dog had seven business days to be identified before they were to make any big decisions like they did she stated that my dog had not been in the facility for an entire 15 minutes before they put him to sleep. All they told me is that "We still have his remains you may come get them if you like" I would never recommend anyone to bring an animal to this facility all they want to do is kill animals an make decisions based on how they feel. They have absolutely no remorse for what they did to my dog at all he didn't have a fighting chance to recover from his wound and I'm highly infuriated with the facility. This is one of those places you never want to visit but are so thankful they're there. I recently had a cat get very sick very quickly, and of course it was on the weekend when my regular vet was closed. He could barely move and we had no idea what was going on with him. So, at midnight on a Saturday night, we took him here. The staff and doctor could not have been more caring and compassionate. If you think about what they're doing...working blindly on your pet without knowing their full medical history...it's amazing what they do. They were able to keep my cat there until Monday morning on supportive care, giving him IV fluids and medicine to keep him comfortable. When I picked him up he showed improvement, and after I took him to my regular vet for another couple of days he's just about back to normal. The visit wasn't cheap; however, they kept me informed every step of the way how much things would cost and I had the option to waive certain treatments if it was out of my price range. After comparing their bill to that of my regular vet, CEVC actually charged less for many tests and medications, so I can't say they are price gauging people in their time of crisis.  I totally believe my cat wouldn't have survived without the care he received at Cabarrus Emergency Vet Clinic. I would recommend them to anyone. Read Less

Now, onto my personal experience. I have 2.. and they both involve the same dog. I have had Tammy for quite a number of years, and she is every bit of my child as your human child is yours. She is everything to me. The first time I had to take her to CEVC was because of rat bait toxicity (ingestion of rat poison). The only reason she had ever even gotten to it was because i had just rescued a kitten that discovered how to open doors. Cabinet doors, doors to the outside, and a shed door. Well, she got into this rat poison and when I noticed that she was very lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink I immediately took her to CEVC. They did many test and did lots of blood work to try and figured out what it was (because at the time we had no idea!). It wasn't until the VERY observant vet tech whom took her outside noticed that her poop was rather green. This was the first time she had pooped since eating it and thank god they thought to check the color of her poop! Once they discovered what it was they immediately started her on the treatment they saw fit and after fighting for her life for a number of days she was able to come home. If it wasn't for them and their knowledge then I would have lost my beautiful little girl then. The next time I had to take her in was very recently. Tammy was having a very successful pregnancy (granted it was an oops!) after getting pregnant from a stray that I had taken in. She went into labor and her water broke around 12pm and she started seeming as if she was going to think about pushing around 2-3pm. however, by 5 pm she had not had the first puppy and after speaking to them on the phone I decided to give her another hour and see if she began pushing on her own. When I called them back at 6:15ish they told me that I could wait a tiny bit longer or I could go ahead and bring her in. (Dogs can be in labor for quite a while and there not actually be a problem!) I opted to take a shower and then head on out (knowing I could be up all night since she was just a laboring dog and there is often a wait for more serious injuries!). I got there no later than 8pm and set her up a blanket and her own little place to labor. She pushed some and seemed rather painful and they decided to do a c-section. As they were getting ready to prep her for surgery a huge lab came in and had gotten hit by a car. The flurry of activity as they all fought to save that poor dogs life was more than I could believe, and the sympathetic shoulder they offered to the owners even now brings tears to my eyes. They felt the loss themselves, and I think that stands for something. Anywho, back to my story! Tammy was finally prepped for surgery and long story short it was not a successful c-section. Instead, it ended up being a ruptured uterus. All the puppies were still-born and Tammy was at a HUGE risk for a horrible internal infection. The almost 2 hours that the Dr devoted to my poor Tammy ensuring that she completely cleaned her out and then putting a tube into her stomach to drain the ""nasty"" amazes me. Tammy received around the clock care for 3 solid days where they had her in the incubator, and had to constantly ""rinse"" her abdomen out. She was loved and hand fed, sometimes down to someone pulling her out and physically sitting on the floor and helping her eat. Yet again she was fighting for her life and they never once gave up on her. She is a fighter, but they helped her fight--and once again she won! I will never hesitate to take any of my animals there, and I even wish I could use them as my primary vet! The determination and confidence they have astounds me and I thank God every single day that they have always been there for her. I hope that all of you never have to go to this place--only because that means that there is a problem which necessitated immediate care! :( But believe me that if you do end up there, then they are fighting just as hard as you are Read Less

As a rescuer and as a pet owner, I have spent a lot of time with dogs and cats and even ducks at the Cabarrus Emergency Vet Clinic. I'm sympathetic to owners who have less than ideal outcomes. But I've also been up there and seen folks who let dogs lie for hours in the yard with heatstrokes til near death, seen dogs and cats who have labored to deliver for days and are near death before someone takes her to a vet, seen pets who ate rat bait or were hit by cars days before and the owner is just now bringing it in for treatment - when it is too late. I don't know how they keep their tongues quiet. They can't work miracles. I sometimes have to step outside so I don't blast a pet owner for waiting too late to go to a vet. This is emergency treatment, not a visit to a regular vet who has your pet's history and more time to diagnose.. They do not have a crystal ball, they do the best they can while dealing with multiple triage of pets in crisis. If they don't look busy with patients, maybe they are researching poisons, stabilizing, checking vitals, or catching a breath before the next hit-by-car. One of my best memories is being in the treatment zone and seeing a little slip of a woman/vet tech running through the doors with a sixty-pound boxer in her arms, getting him up on the table and jumping up to do CPR to keep him breathing while they tried to save his life. Don't tell me they are not dedicated. All doctors make mistakes. But these guys save lives. Where would you go without them? And keep in mind, they are working all hours, when they are exhausted and when families are celebrating holidays. Two volunteers in my group have spent hours up there observing, and they agree with me - it doesn't work every time, but it is amazing what they do. They are trained, dedicated, and hardworking professionals. Thanks for what you do, CEVC! Read Less

Read Less

Read Less
