Dr. Z and the staff at Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital are the best! We've been coming to them since we moved to the area and have not doubted that decision once! We've boarded our older cat (Lucy) with them when we've gone out of town for extended periods of time and they take very good care of her. They take the time to get to know you and your pets. Our newest addition to the family was a rescue kitten (Callie) and Dr. Z did an amazing job with her initial exam and subsequent spay/declaw. They utilize the newest and most humane methods. The vet service itself was okay, but it felt like I had to ask a ton of questions to get any info. Vet visit felt rushed and quick. My real issues are the lies from the front desk staff and exorbitant prices for basic care. On our first visit, we received a shot that required a follow up booster. I was told that the booster was already paid, would be a simple in-and-out, and did not require an appointment. I show up for the booster...and wait 41 minutes to be called back even after making an appointment because of other commitments (no one else is in the lobby). I also ask to have the dog's nails trimmed. The front desk staff replied that they do not cut nails and only grind them. I agree that is okay. My dog is seen and I go to the front desk to pay. The bill has a fee for the second booster, a $15 fee for cutting, and $17 fee for grinding....after I was told the booster was paid and they do not cut nails. That's more than double the national average for the shots and most vets cut for free during a checkup. When questioned, the desk staff said there was no vet visit fee for the second shot and they could not provide an explanation for the cutting fee. Unfortunate that they are not concerned with retaining customers or reasonable prices because they have a convenient location. Read Less

Dr. Terry acted like I was wasting his time today when I came in with my small Yorkie. I had legitimate concerns, and he didn't seem like anything I said mattered. Appeared very brash and like he didn't have the time to listen to my concerns. I will NEVER allow my babies to see him again. We have always seen Dr. Z in the past and he has always been amazing with my 2 Yorkies and Great Dane. Dr. Z always takes the time to listen to my concerns I may have with my babies. He spends time to explain why he is thinking the way he does and explains things thoroughly. He lets them give him kisses and shows he truly loves his profession. We will always see Dr. Z from now on no matter how long we have to wait. We will NEVER see Dr. Terry again no matter what it takes. I will go somewhere else if its an emergency and Dr. Z isn't available. I have been a loyal customer with my 3 babies and never had an issue until today. These are my children and I take their health as a priority. I will not put up with the way I was treated today. He did nothing and charged a crazy amount.Read Less

Absolutely amazing! My small dog swallowed a foreign object and I called the vet immediately and they were able to see him right then, the staff was very understanding and nice, they operated on my dog Tucker and he was able to come home that evening. My grandson and I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and experienced staff at BRVH. We had our first visit with our new kitten. The kitty was given treats throughout the visit and allowed to roam when not getting his exam. So happy to have this great facility in Brunswick Forest. Read Less

This was the best vet visit of my life. It was fast, courteous, friendly, and not pushy. It respected my time, and didn't assume that I was neglecting my fur baby. That you speak to our dogs like they are human beings, and you get down to their level when treating them. I have had many pets over the years and have been to many veterinarians with them. Dr Z and his staff have been by far the very best that I have ever dealt with. Sadly, my little girl Bonkers died in August at 17 years. I am certain that she had the very best of care at BFVH! She loved every person there including the kennel assistant, Drake. Very pleased so far! I just got off the phone with Emily (scheduling a new apt for my dog to have his ear checked). She was warm, knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions (me being a prospective client) wonderfully and professionally. I was impressed and told her so. In particular I asked about the vaccinations due to a shared belief with "JustMe2277" that all vaccinations are not necessary. Emily answered that for cats, only the rabies is mandatory for outpatient care due to NC law. Also, she informed me that my cat does not need a physical with them to get his rabies booster. I am VERY disappointed in this vet. I really thought I found a great and caring vet but when a vet will put vaccinations above the best interest of a pet (my opinion of course) then they are not the vet I thought and hoped they would be. I understand rabies vaccinations are the law so no arguing that but the other vaccinations are not mandated by law and neither should they be by a vet and when they are I can't help but think it's the money they make off of them! Again my opinion of course. I know it is debatable the frequency and safety of vaccines but as long as it is just that (debatable) then it should remain the owner's choice to get them or not and not the vets. I can also understand when boarding them as that is not a medical necessity if they want to mandate the vaccines but when refusing medical care of any kind unless the owner gets the pets all the shots is plain wrong in my opinion! There is A LOT of creditable information on the internet about the dangers of vaccines as well as they are not needed as often as they are trying to vaccinate which should put the decision in the hands of the owner and not the vet. The care refused my pet because of not having all the vaccines is needed dental care and her physical turned out good on everything else. I have very good reasons for not wanting my pet over vaccinated or not wanting them knowing risk verses benefits makes some of them not worth the risk in my opinion to get them and others given too frequently. I have been seeing Dr Z for a month now with a sick dog that rtequires care, concern and a vet that is "there" to see us and respond in a quick and timely manner. Dr Z and his entire staff has been more than wonderful, responsive, quick to reply and has never let me down - NEVER. I have a sick dog and Dr Z went so far as to come to the house to check up on him - NO CHARGE!
