Seriously can't beat this animal hospital!!!!!  The entire staff is compassionate and gentle. The pricing can't be beat (if you are trying to be financially cognizant). Everything they do is amazing!  I have a special needs pup that most vets wouldn't want to anesthetize, but he really needed his teeth cleaned and several pulled. Two of my dogs died here.. the second one they dropped the news on me like a bomb over the phone.. now they refuse to allow me to purchase antibiotics for a wounded stray that I've been feeding since a kitten. I have been bringing my little buddy (Sadie) to Matthews Animal Clinic for the past three years. I've never had a bad experience. The staff is helpful and professional. Sadie and I have seen several veterinarians and I've been impressed with each. She developed some heart issues and we've seen Dr. Brader primarily. My dog was hit by a car. I called a couple of veterinary offices. I was offered appointments hours later, in one case the next day. I called this Vet. I never got through half my phone call. The woman I spoke to cut me off and said, "Bring him in here now, we'll take care of you," My dog Sassy was a patient here before she died. They are WAY out of the way for my since I moved. My very first visit to Matthews Animal clinic involved my husband and my first pet together. Although we lost her to cancer they were beyond compassionate. Today as I picked up her ashes and paw print it was about 6pm and I was feeling very sad. Their office cat Marvin saw me. He jumped from the floor all the way up to the high counter where I was checking out and said hello. Everyone was surprised because he hadn't said hello to anyone all day. I really don't care for this place and I never have. I come here because my family does and I guess it's habit. They are rude and seem intolerant if you can't afford certain procedures. Dr. Pritchett is compassionate. When Dobby's health took a sudden turn Over 24 hours I was not ready. I didn't know if he was in pain from arthritis or the cancer that had been in remission was back with a vengeance. Dr Pritchett said bring him in immediately. It was the worst case scenario. My boy who 2 days prior walked a couple miles with me and was happy and feeling fine was in crisis. Internal bleeding, blood pressure dropping, body temp down 5 degrees. I knew this day would come but I was not ready. Dr Pritchett and staff set us up wth a quilt on the side lawn under a tree where we could cuddle him and say our good byes. We waited for Another family member to arrive, Dobbys favorite auntie, and we all got to tell him we loved him. Dr P gently euthanized him, Dobby died in my arms surrounded by family who loved him. I have one dog who the other vets don't seem to like working on as he's a barker and snaps at people (he's a rescue) and has to be muzzled. I love these vets at this clinic! Each and every one of them has always taken the best care of my beloved fur babies. I have been coming here since I was a small child, back then it was owned by Dr. Cleveland, and all the later owners and vets were wonderful. There was one vet tech who seemed a little rough and heavy handed, but she isn't there now. I regret that moving away is making me change vets, as it is a little too far to drive now... But I would stay here if I could. They showed me so much care when I lost my beloved dog to old age in 2009, and I have complete faith in their skills and compassion. Read Less

This was our first and last experience to this clinic.Their approach from the front office to the owner was "McVet" = too much volume and an incompetent rude front office staff. The techs and vets seemed to be fine.One of our puppies (aka 4 legged child) was the victim of a brutal dog attack and we took her there as an emergency visit.My wife had two poor experiences with the front office so I took the pup on the 3rd visit, for a 2-week follow up (including more charges). On our 3rd trip, we saw a 3rd vet, not familiar with the case, so made a far lengthier process and added frustration. Upon checkout, the front office provided me with the wrong dog's receipt on my paperwork as part of checkout.  As I had an armful of puppy in office, I did not discover the mistake until I was home. When I called I got nothing but an attitude from the front desk that left me with the feeling that I was inconveniencing them and they did no wrong. Within a week the puppy was no longer putting weight on her front leg. We took her into the office (more charges), the vet stated she'd provide medication and to watch it for the rest of the week and bring her back if it didn't get better. No x-ray was taken. The pup did not get better, so we took her in again (more charges) - and got a different vet...had to drop her off, they did xray & a cast; cast fell off within 2 weeks, wife called and they rudely and abruptly told her that there would be no one there after a certain time and that they could not help so we would have to wait until the next day. Wife was half way to their office in traffic, made her cry as they were extremely short and rude to her.I called and let them know their attitude from the front office was unacceptable! Wife dropped off pup and daughter picked up pup, another bill for over 150.Cast came off less than a week later...worst vet experience in my life!!! Read Less

I have been taking my dog (now 7) there since she was a puppy. Originally took her to a place in Ballantyne but it was so expensive.  I find the prices here reasonable.  The staff is super friendly.  One of the ladies has a Dachshund and we talk about our dogs and they give tips on dog care as well.  My dog is a afraid of most men so I've made odd requests for Dr. Brader (male) to do her dental but if she has a physical the same day I request one of the female doctors and they always accommodate and don't treat me like some weirdo, they get it.  My baby seems to really like Dr. Thompson, she has a very gentle mannerism if you have a nervous dog like mine.  They always speak to me after exams or call me after dental and always give good wellness tips.  Dr. Thompson called me on a Sunday when my dog was boarding, I forgot to bring her food and apparently the change caused her an upset stomach, she was keeping me up to date.  I find it easy to make last minute boarding reservations, the cost of meds there rival those online and often have rebate coupons.  They have a few late nights and are open Saturdays until 1pm which is very convenient. I absolutely love this practice and am so sad that I couldn't move them with me out of state.The vets are all great and very helpful.  Our cat was diagnosed with diabetes and they were wonderful with helping to educate me on his health and the best options to improve his condition.  I've also brought my dog in and had a great experiences with her as well.I've used their boarding services for my cat when traveling because he requires medication and always felt at ease knowing that they'd care for him and not just leave him in a cage until I picked him up.  With the exception of one employee, who might just be in a permanently bad mood, the front desk staff has always been beyond welcoming and helpful if I have any questions.  Overall, I highly recommend bringing your pets to Matthews Animal Clinic. When we lived in NC for 2 1/2 years, Matthews Animal Clinic was are go to for our three dogs. My dogs experienced numerous health issues while in NC and we always took them to Matthews, even after moving across town. We worked with all the vets there, but Dr. Pritchett handled a potentially very serious issue with two of our dogs. He was amazing! I can not say enough good things about this practice. I brought my dog in with a bowel obstruction, he had never been there before: The  staff couldn't not have been more amazing. They got him seen quickly once they realized how sick he was, and what they charge was SO REASONABLE.  They did everything they could to keep the cost down. I had to bring him back with some complications, and i received NUMEROUS calls a day letting me know how he was doing, and i have interacted with 3 separate doctors and they have all been amazing.  I have been to 5 different vets in charlotte, and this is ABOVE and BEYOND the best! I want to say we've been going to Matthews Animal Clinic since we moved here in 2005. I'm writing this review only now because last week I discovered my dog and cat had fleas. They took my pets in for baths on short notice for which I am grateful. They helped me a few years ago to find a kennel on Christmas Eve! I had reservations at a new kennel, but it was terrible. First off, pretty much all veterinarians are the same. They have the same knowledge and qualifications, so it's really the attitude of the establishment that sets it apart. That being said, the people at the front desk here left much to be desired. They were short with my wife and I, and acted like we were inconveniencing them. They talked down to my wife when she asked a simple question about my dog's diagnosis. I did not get a good impression of the establishment, which is really too bad. I wanted to like this place, it's close to my house and convenient for me. Unfortunately I would rather continue to drive 45 minutes to north Charlotte to see my old vet than go back to this place.Read Less

Matthews Animal Clinic sees all 3 of our pets and the staff and vets are wonderful. They were able to diagnose my dog with needing a double knee replacement surgery when Animal Medical Hospital (just down the road) had failed to do so. They successfully helped us find a vet who could perform the surgeries and have been offering us post-surgical care as well as our usual vet appointments to manage immunizations, allergies, and the usual doggy and cat illnesses/emergencies. Our dog is deaf and afraid of everyone, but he is treated with such kindness by Dr. Meadows that he allows him to examine and touch him. This is no small feat! With as many as four dogs in the last few years, we have definitely made use of the services of Matthews Animal Clinic.  They've always been very helpful - of course, they get paid for it, so you can't blame them - but they've always gone above and beyond to do the job, too.Most places will give you decent service, but the staff at the clinic always recognizes our pets by name after just visit or two, and when we recently had to put our oldest dog to sleep, several of the long-time employees, who had worked with him for years, recognized him and seemed to be genuinely sad.  They even made up a doggie-blizzard for him, with kibbles and ice cream.  It was pretty cool (no pun intended).I would suggest making an appointment rather than walking in if you can, because it will get you to the front of the line, where if you just walk in you get at the back of the line, but that's not always possible.
