When my son brought home a tiny, sickly cat that he found abandoned in the woods, I wasn't too pleased.  Thank goodness for Monroe Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic. This place is the only low cost alternative for getting cats and dogs fixed in Union County, and they provide a needed service, but don't expect any kind of customer service here.  You get what you pay for, and it's basically an assembly line factory where they do upwards of 20+ cats a day plus who knows how many dogs, and will not work with you at all on scheduling:  You must have the animal there between 7:00 and 7:30 am and pick up between 3:30 and 4:45 pm, all for the vet's convenience and not yours.  I take in stray cats at my farm and I've had 5 females done there but this last one I had a problem catching and the last time I took her in a day earlier than scheduled because someone called and left me a message that made me think I had the day wrong on my calendar and they wouldn't take her and told me they had either 23 or 26 cats that day, I forgot the exact number, which I can understand.  I couldn't catch that cat again the next day and had to reschedule, and took her in a few weeks later but this time my Internet went out after Hurrican Florence and "Alexa" didn't wake me up (note to self, don't count on an Internet dependent assistant for wake-up calls) and I called them while on my way at 8:30 and they absolutely refused to work with me on getting my cat fixed even though they obviously couldn't have finished operating on all 20+ cats they were doing that day in the last hour.  No, they said, they just had the doctor "examine" all 20+ cat patients in the last hour and he/she would be starting operations in 10 minutes, so I was out of luck and had to reschedule again (they charge 17-20% for rescheduling, which I can understand too since you took one of their assembly line slots).  So basically "the doctor" wouldn't take the less than 3 minutes he/she spends on "examining" a cat to do all 20+ cats in an hour to get my cat in, for a customer who has been there 5 times in the last 6 months, because he/she was going to start operating on all the patients in 10 minutes and apparently just goes through all the cats in one shot without any kind of a 3 minute break until they're all done (except for the long lunch break they take each day when they don't answer the phone, along with all the random times they don't answer the phone or ask to call you back when they do), and therefore wouldn't have a free 3 minutes to examine my cat if I brought her in at 8:40 am instead of 7:30 am, and I just had to reschedule again.But all the cats I brought in have been successfully fixed (as far as I know) and none died on the operating table, so I give them 2 stars for doing what you pay for if you just need an animal fixed and don't expect any kind of customer service beyond that. Did good work and is a lot less expensive. BUT I asked before making appointment if price told to me would be price I would be charged. I was told yes. I am so grateful for the low cost vaccines hw and flea prev and spay neuter. The 2 ladies at the desk the vet and techs are efficient and VERY nice and helpful. The director has called me herself to personally respond to a question. They have a great system that helps me stay organized with vaccine due dates etc. Easy 5 stars. Read Less

This is a service of Union County Humane Society. A free-standing facility that does routine vet care for a lower price than going to the veterinary. Very clean and caring and friendly. Plenty of parking and handicapped accessible. Read Less

We went there to take a look at a dog, because it is a shared facility with the Union County Animal Shelter. The director is very involved with the shelter and passionate about the cause. However, the animal shelter could use more funding to expand and get better equipped. Read Less

I picked up my fur baby today after getting spayed and once I got seated in the car realized she had dog poop all matter in her fur! She must have been sitting in dog poop in the crate. Had to cut out the clumps from her fur.... NOT what I wanted to find on my poor baby after leaving her for surgery!!!! Read Less

I talk about them all the time. Doc is so nice and the staff are rock stars. I took my English Bulldog puppy to Monroe Animal Hospital for a very high priced "puppy check." They didn't even mention the hernia (which was obvious even to me!) and said she was all good. I took her to the Humane Society and doc couldn't believe it...and fixed it when I had her spayed! I can't imagine what a "normal" vet would have charged me. A lot of people don't know this but they offer all preventive services too, heartworm tests, vaccination/booster shots, wormer, and flea/tick/heartworm meds. I got 6 months for 2 dogs for less than I pay for 3 months for 1 dog at a vet's office! They love their patients and the feeling is mutual!Read Less

Monroe low-cost spay and neuter clinic is awesome. I took my beagle there to have him neutered. He is 5 years old and suffers from seizures. They took great care of him. The nurse reassured me that someone would be with him from the minute he started his surgery prep until he woke up in recovery. She said they would not take their eyes off of him. He did fine with his surgery. They provided me all the instructions and medication that he needed and he is all up to date on his shots. I got front line plus for all 3 of my dogs. The cost was minimal to that of the vet. I am very grateful to have them in Union County. Read Less

The best possible place you could take your pets. They really go above and beyond, weather that means hugging your big dog to comfort it when it's scared, or checking up on your small dog that didn't handle the anesthesia well, it's all about the animals here not the mighty dollar. Read Less

After surgery when I was concerned about my cat bothering her incision, they answered all of my questions, put me at ease and the Dr. himself actually gave me a way to reach him since the weekend is approaching. I reluctantly filled out the information online to schedule my appointment for our second cat to be neutered here. I never heard anything back. I've sent in emails and I've called but have yet to reach an actual person or hear anything from anyone and it's been over a month! Honestly when we had our first cat neutered here it was our best option for affordability at the time. We just moved to the area, didn't have a vet and had just adopted our first cat by surprise. It just worked for us. After having the bad experience the first time I wasn't going to try again but honestly it's local and affordable and was going to try and give another chance. Here's my first bad experience summarized: When I came in that morning to drop him off I signed my name and someone took him from me and no one asked me his name or said thank you or anything. They didn't seem to care or act as if he was my pet but just another routine number. Just told me to pick him up by 3:30 or I would have to pay a fee and then they looked away dismissing me for someone else. I was there early to pick up my cat and honestly I could have been anyone, it would t have mattered. All I did was walk in and ask for my cat. Noone asked for id or anything. They just went back found him, brought him to me and that was it. No instructions on how to care for him after surgery. No warning signs to look for. Nothing. How is that safe? You could have given him away to a complete stranger! And when I got him home his collar and name tag were gone! It was just an all around bad experience! I was able to make an appointment at another clinic and the process took 5 minutes. The people are super friendly. My cat is going to get a wellness exam and they are keeping him overnight to ensure his well being. The overall atmosphere and service is a thousand times better than my experiences with this clinic and I will only refer folks there now. Even though I have to drive 45 minutes through Charlotte rush hour traffic... I would rather do that then deal with bad customer service and a poor environment for my pet. This service is necessary for Monroe and I have always supported my local shelters and clinics as much as possible BUT they usually care about the people and the animals they are serving. This group doesn't seem to care at all. It's pretty sad. The customer service definitely needs some tending to! I would rather drive 45 minutes through a traffic nightmare so that we have a nice experience then to go through any of the above again. That should speak for itself!Read Less

The staff at this clinic are wonderful. We live quite far out and people here tend to drop off unwanted creatures...they all come to our house, as if it were the Arc. We have TNR'd a number of cats over the years, but this was our first time at this clinic. The appointment was easy to set up, the price was fair and the end results were quite good.
