The vets are great. Like others have said the problem is not the vets it's there polices or enforcement. First time I stopped going was after going there ten years with several dogs. On my last visit when I was checking out and realized I left my wallet at home. They decide that I couldn't take the $4 medication with me. Went back after I couldn't find a better veterinarian who was close. This time I decide to get my vet meds on-line instead of paying them so much for them. Only when the pharmacy called the vet wouldn't fill it. They said I had to come in and get the prescription because they were afraid a reputable pharmacy might get it wrong if they just told them. Yeah. So looking again and it's a shame because they do have good docs.

Top notch and only the very BEST for my pups is why we chose SVAH. Unsure why there are any negative reviews. Prices, by far, are comparable to other vets in area. Dr. Barker is kind, compassionate, loving with the animals and easy to talk to about what he recommends for our pets. He has gone above and beyond in the care and treatment of our pets, including our senior Pug who passed naturally at 15 and a miniature Boston who had a blood cancer that he researched on his own time to find the best short term treatment options available to give us more time with her and a personal telephone call after she passed in her sleep. We have two new additions, a Boston and a Golden, and I have the utmost trust and confidence in his treatment for both of them, I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Barker. And on Dr. Rios, who is fairly new to SVAH, my daughter who lives out of town takes her French Bulldog and absolutely loves Dr. Rios. Following a recent visit with her, Dr. Rios made two follow up calls to my daughter to check on her pup, asked for pics to see progress and made appt. for her next return. Dr. Barker or Dr. Rios do not rush you in and out, they are calming and the atmosphere is gentle, but also fun for my golden who likes to play. Neither Dr. Barker nor Dr. Rios make recommendations that are not warranted. I highly recommend Sun Valley Animal Hospital and have no regrets in any of the care of my pets, simply put, it is above and beyond the very BEST ! ! Thank you for caring for the Thomas pups ! ! p.s....and the complaints on here about the staff, we have never experienced any problems with the staff so not sure which animal hospital you go to, the staff is busy taking calls and checking people out, but are always nice and loving with my pet. Staff also will call the next day (separate from Vet calls) to check on your pup.

New to the area, I reached out and got some good feedback for Dr. Barker at SVAH. We love our vets but the commute down Old Monroe can take too long, especially when we are in an urgent way with out older dog who has seizures and other issues. I booked an appointment with Dr. Barker specifically. Upon arrival, the receptionist apologized and informed me he took another patient and asked if I would mind seeing Dr. Rios. I agreed to see her and then to some upset bloodwork which was as unhelpful and as it was costly. Dr. rios treated us like customers, spoke as if our other vets at Matthews Animal Clinic were not sound on the rx which they had prescribed for the past 3 years...As if it made no senses at all to treat seizures with Gabapentin. I googled to when I got home to find THAT it is commonly prescribed for seizures. So she sold us on the blood work, asserted that our vets could have done better and just overall it did not feel like the type care of care I wanted for my dog. She wanted to start my dog on a new RX. Because I didn't feel great about her and this is a serious consideration, I called to see if I could consult with Dr. Barker about RX change, I was told, that I would need to come back for another visit. They have all of our vet records and Dr. Rios saw him a few weeks ago. They actually called to say I was welcome to come back for a visit and pay for it...just so I could discuss the RX and statements of Dr. Rios. I love and swear by the people at Mattews animal clinic and just wanted a closer option. I cannot consider SUN VALLEY ANIMAL HOSPITAL a good option for my animals. Apparently the generous offer to let me come back and see the vet I had my appointment booked with was the owner, Dr. Hudson's idea. I am angry with myself for not listening to my gut. No wonder they are sending out coupons for free first visit for customer acquisition. I wished I had just had the complimentary visit, not done the bloodwork and claws and left with my money and gut instinct-- that they are running a business more than an animal care facility. I am sharing my experience only. If you have had better ones, I am glad for you. Shaking my head. Waste of time and money. My pets deserve better, more mindful and wholesome care than this.

They tell you one thing in person at your appointment, but when you try to get action taken based on that visit a few months later, they have no record of anything the vet told you, requiring you to spend more money with them.

I took my cat here for two visits, and I really liked the veterinarian. It turned out after visits,tests, a pain shot and antibiotics (about $250 in two visits) that the cat just needs to eat some special prescription cat food for about $50 a month for the REST OF HER LIFE--Yike$. Fortunately, the cat didn't like this food, and I found some non-prescription pet store cat food to help the cat with urinary tract problems. I also found an online vet website helpful which suggested adding a little vinegar to the cat's food. I've talked to others who paid more to find out the same problems, so I can't blame the Sun Valley. I would take my cat here again, but in this particular case, I clearly wish that I had done a google search and tried my own fix first. This was a clean, cheerful business though. It also has a good reputation too. I would ask about prices first if you are on a budget though.

I've been taking my dogs there for the past 9 years up until this past week. Made an appointment for two dogs for possible ear infections, ended up no infection but my bill was 288.00. Feel like I was ripped off. Charging regular customers 55.00 per pet for a visit on top off all other extra fees. Took my pets to another vet same week and my dog did have an ear infection after all. Sun Valley wanted to charge me 56.00 for this skin medicine for my pet and the other vet charged me 36.00 for the same meds. My office visits now are 35.00. Much more affordable. So happy I changed over. Sun Valley your fees are over the top expensive for the area you do business in.

Thank you Dr. Barker for being forthright in your communication of tough issues! We have used Sun Valley for years with our pets. Unfortunately we have experienced some of our worst moments (having to euthanize) with Sun Valley. For our old age pets that got sick. Such a hard thing to do and I cannot thank Dr. Barker enough for helping us gain clarity of our options and providing his honest opinion yet without making the decision for us. He has a unique skill in this department. I do not envy him in these scenarios but I thank him greatly!! We just said good bye to our girl of 14 years and it was one of the hardest things. My husband and I were struggling with the options that had been laid in front of us by a co-worker of Dr. Barkers that we saw because he was not working the day we originally came in. We could not decide so we asked that Dr. Barker contact us to discuss since he had been primary one to care for our girl most of her life. He did and was gracious to spend 30 minutes late in the evening on the phone answering all of our questions after a non-stop day for him. The call gave us clarity in what was best for our girl....even though we dreaded letting go it was time. It brought us great peace to do what was right by her although we struggling with it up until it was done but after letting go we could see it was the right choice. I would give 5 stars rather than 4 but over the years the front desk staff can come off as rude/unfriendly at times but really doesn't matter if the Vet and techs take good care of my pet which they have always done especially Dr. Barker.

We have been taking our animals here for 6+ yrs and have never had a neg experience. Recently, our young cat became very ill. Understanding our concern in regards to running a high vet bill, their approach was impressive! They were very knowledgeable as to what tests were and were not necessary keeping costs to a minimum. Both the techs and Dr. Barker worked collaboratively to quickly pinpoint a diagnosis while keeping us informed at all times. Unfortunately, our kittys' prognosis was poor and we had to say goodbye to him. Dr. Barker and the staff were compassionate, patient and kind. They never made our concerns or decisions feel invalid or degraded. Great clinic! Great staff! Highly recommend!

Horrible. I spent $400 on my cat in one week.. I was told my cat needed xrays and didn't.. I wasn't given a choice for meds on 2nd visit, only pills or a $70 shot. (my cat will not take pills)..They left my cat caged in the back for nearly 2 hours instead of bringing him back to the exam room.. I paid for a full exam for the 1st visit, and they did not do the full exam!...(either visit!) I had to wait nearly 2 hours to see the doctor and they did not explain that I was a "work in"... Ridiculous and terrible customer service. I left a message for the owner to call me back on Saturday but he hasn't called back. This hospital does not care about your pet, they care about the $$$$$.... I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very expensive and they want their money up front.. I got two different opinions by two different doctors.. The list goes on and on-

They were also charging over $100/mo for the medicine that we get for around $55/mo EVERYWHERE ELSE. Their response "We dont price match." This place was trying to take us for a ride! Managed to get our dog back (after dropping her off for the tests BEFORE they quoted a price) for only $50. What did we get for our $50 you might ask? The tech looked in my dog's ears and "felt" her... for $50!!! What a crock! We are taking our business to Indian Trail Animal Hospital.

I have been bringing my dogs here for years and will continue to do so. All of the staff and vets are very friendly, don't rush my visits, help to mitigate my concerns, and follow up if my dogs are sick or require additional care. The pricing is very reasonable and appointments are easy to make. The facility is very warm and friendly- it does not feel like a cold hospital at all. I recommend any of the vets; they have all taken care of us and our needs. Thank you Sun Valley.

I absolutely love this Animal Hospital.... We personally request Dr, Barker when we make our appointments. Dr. Barker is one of the most compassionate Vetrinarians we have ever met. There is never a rush to get you in and out, if you have questions Dr. Barker will take all the time you need to get your questions answered. The staff is also awesome. It's just a great place to take your pet, Sometimes the out come is not what you want to hear, but they are honest and compassionate when it comes to your pet. Thank you all so much for taking such good care of our pets!

The vets are great. Like others have said the problem is not the vets it's there polices or enforcement. First time I stopped going was after going there ten years with several dogs. On my last visit when I was checking out and realized I left my wallet at home. They decide that I couldn't take the $4 medication with me. Went back after I couldn't find a better veterinarian who was close. This time I decide to get my vet meds on-line instead of paying them so much for them. Only when the pharmacy called the vet wouldn't fill it. They said I had to come in and get the prescription because they were afraid a reputable pharmacy might get it wrong if they just told them. Yeah. So looking again and it's a shame because they do have good docs.

Top notch and only the very BEST for my pups is why we chose SVAH. Unsure why there are any negative reviews. Prices, by far, are comparable to other vets in area. Dr. Barker is kind, compassionate, loving with the animals and easy to talk to about what he recommends for our pets. He has gone above and beyond in the care and treatment of our pets, including our senior Pug who passed naturally at 15 and a miniature Boston who had a blood cancer that he researched on his own time to find the best short term treatment options available to give us more time with her and a personal telephone call after she passed in her sleep. We have two new additions, a Boston and a Golden, and I have the utmost trust and confidence in his treatment for both of them, I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Barker. And on Dr. Rios, who is fairly new to SVAH, my daughter who lives out of town takes her French Bulldog and absolutely loves Dr. Rios. Following a recent visit with her, Dr. Rios made two follow up calls to my daughter to check on her pup, asked for pics to see progress and made appt. for her next return. Dr. Barker or Dr. Rios do not rush you in and out, they are calming and the atmosphere is gentle, but also fun for my golden who likes to play. Neither Dr. Barker nor Dr. Rios make recommendations that are not warranted. I highly recommend Sun Valley Animal Hospital and have no regrets in any of the care of my pets, simply put, it is above and beyond the very BEST ! ! Thank you for caring for the Thomas pups ! ! p.s....and the complaints on here about the staff, we have never experienced any problems with the staff so not sure which animal hospital you go to, the staff is busy taking calls and checking people out, but are always nice and loving with my pet. Staff also will call the next day (separate from Vet calls) to check on your pup.

New to the area, I reached out and got some good feedback for Dr. Barker at SVAH. We love our vets but the commute down Old Monroe can take too long, especially when we are in an urgent way with out older dog who has seizures and other issues. I booked an appointment with Dr. Barker specifically. Upon arrival, the receptionist apologized and informed me he took another patient and asked if I would mind seeing Dr. Rios. I agreed to see her and then to some upset bloodwork which was as unhelpful and as it was costly. Dr. rios treated us like customers, spoke as if our other vets at Matthews Animal Clinic were not sound on the rx which they had prescribed for the past 3 years...As if it made no senses at all to treat seizures with Gabapentin. I googled to when I got home to find THAT it is commonly prescribed for seizures. So she sold us on the blood work, asserted that our vets could have done better and just overall it did not feel like the type care of care I wanted for my dog. She wanted to start my dog on a new RX. Because I didn't feel great about her and this is a serious consideration, I called to see if I could consult with Dr. Barker about RX change, I was told, that I would need to come back for another visit. They have all of our vet records and Dr. Rios saw him a few weeks ago. They actually called to say I was welcome to come back for a visit and pay for it...just so I could discuss the RX and statements of Dr. Rios. I love and swear by the people at Mattews animal clinic and just wanted a closer option. I cannot consider SUN VALLEY ANIMAL HOSPITAL a good option for my animals. Apparently the generous offer to let me come back and see the vet I had my appointment booked with was the owner, Dr. Hudson's idea. I am angry with myself for not listening to my gut. No wonder they are sending out coupons for free first visit for customer acquisition. I wished I had just had the complimentary visit, not done the bloodwork and claws and left with my money and gut instinct-- that they are running a business more than an animal care facility. I am sharing my experience only. If you have had better ones, I am glad for you. Shaking my head. Waste of time and money. My pets deserve better, more mindful and wholesome care than this.

They tell you one thing in person at your appointment, but when you try to get action taken based on that visit a few months later, they have no record of anything the vet told you, requiring you to spend more money with them.

I took my cat here for two visits, and I really liked the veterinarian. It turned out after visits,tests, a pain shot and antibiotics (about $250 in two visits) that the cat just needs to eat some special prescription cat food for about $50 a month for the REST OF HER LIFE--Yike$. Fortunately, the cat didn't like this food, and I found some non-prescription pet store cat food to help the cat with urinary tract problems. I also found an online vet website helpful which suggested adding a little vinegar to the cat's food. I've talked to others who paid more to find out the same problems, so I can't blame the Sun Valley. I would take my cat here again, but in this particular case, I clearly wish that I had done a google search and tried my own fix first. This was a clean, cheerful business though. It also has a good reputation too. I would ask about prices first if you are on a budget though.

I've been taking my dogs there for the past 9 years up until this past week. Made an appointment for two dogs for possible ear infections, ended up no infection but my bill was 288.00. Feel like I was ripped off. Charging regular customers 55.00 per pet for a visit on top off all other extra fees. Took my pets to another vet same week and my dog did have an ear infection after all. Sun Valley wanted to charge me 56.00 for this skin medicine for my pet and the other vet charged me 36.00 for the same meds. My office visits now are 35.00. Much more affordable. So happy I changed over. Sun Valley your fees are over the top expensive for the area you do business in.

Thank you Dr. Barker for being forthright in your communication of tough issues! We have used Sun Valley for years with our pets. Unfortunately we have experienced some of our worst moments (having to euthanize) with Sun Valley. For our old age pets that got sick. Such a hard thing to do and I cannot thank Dr. Barker enough for helping us gain clarity of our options and providing his honest opinion yet without making the decision for us. He has a unique skill in this department. I do not envy him in these scenarios but I thank him greatly!! We just said good bye to our girl of 14 years and it was one of the hardest things. My husband and I were struggling with the options that had been laid in front of us by a co-worker of Dr. Barkers that we saw because he was not working the day we originally came in. We could not decide so we asked that Dr. Barker contact us to discuss since he had been primary one to care for our girl most of her life. He did and was gracious to spend 30 minutes late in the evening on the phone answering all of our questions after a non-stop day for him. The call gave us clarity in what was best for our girl....even though we dreaded letting go it was time. It brought us great peace to do what was right by her although we struggling with it up until it was done but after letting go we could see it was the right choice. I would give 5 stars rather than 4 but over the years the front desk staff can come off as rude/unfriendly at times but really doesn't matter if the Vet and techs take good care of my pet which they have always done especially Dr. Barker.

We have been taking our animals here for 6+ yrs and have never had a neg experience. Recently, our young cat became very ill. Understanding our concern in regards to running a high vet bill, their approach was impressive! They were very knowledgeable as to what tests were and were not necessary keeping costs to a minimum. Both the techs and Dr. Barker worked collaboratively to quickly pinpoint a diagnosis while keeping us informed at all times. Unfortunately, our kittys' prognosis was poor and we had to say goodbye to him. Dr. Barker and the staff were compassionate, patient and kind. They never made our concerns or decisions feel invalid or degraded. Great clinic! Great staff! Highly recommend!

Horrible. I spent $400 on my cat in one week.. I was told my cat needed xrays and didn't.. I wasn't given a choice for meds on 2nd visit, only pills or a $70 shot. (my cat will not take pills)..They left my cat caged in the back for nearly 2 hours instead of bringing him back to the exam room.. I paid for a full exam for the 1st visit, and they did not do the full exam!...(either visit!) I had to wait nearly 2 hours to see the doctor and they did not explain that I was a "work in"... Ridiculous and terrible customer service. I left a message for the owner to call me back on Saturday but he hasn't called back. This hospital does not care about your pet, they care about the $$$$$.... I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very expensive and they want their money up front.. I got two different opinions by two different doctors.. The list goes on and on-

They were also charging over $100/mo for the medicine that we get for around $55/mo EVERYWHERE ELSE. Their response "We dont price match." This place was trying to take us for a ride! Managed to get our dog back (after dropping her off for the tests BEFORE they quoted a price) for only $50. What did we get for our $50 you might ask? The tech looked in my dog's ears and "felt" her... for $50!!! What a crock! We are taking our business to Indian Trail Animal Hospital.

I have been bringing my dogs here for years and will continue to do so. All of the staff and vets are very friendly, don't rush my visits, help to mitigate my concerns, and follow up if my dogs are sick or require additional care. The pricing is very reasonable and appointments are easy to make. The facility is very warm and friendly- it does not feel like a cold hospital at all. I recommend any of the vets; they have all taken care of us and our needs. Thank you Sun Valley.

I absolutely love this Animal Hospital.... We personally request Dr, Barker when we make our appointments. Dr. Barker is one of the most compassionate Vetrinarians we have ever met. There is never a rush to get you in and out, if you have questions Dr. Barker will take all the time you need to get your questions answered. The staff is also awesome. It's just a great place to take your pet, Sometimes the out come is not what you want to hear, but they are honest and compassionate when it comes to your pet.
