I loved our previous vet and was very reluctant to change when we moved but I could not have been more pleased. Dr. Prior is not only an amazing vet but a caring and wonderful person as well. She and the entire team at Lakewood have taken such excellent care of our beloved pets. We are treated with kindness and empathy every time we are seen or when we call. The team at Lakewood operates with integrity and honestly and I would highly recommend them! The only downside is they have a small waiting room (if you have a big dog) but often we wait in the car and they come and get us right away. There’s often no wait so it’s a non issue really. Staff was warm and friendly, and I was able to quickly see the attendant and vet. There is a scale at the front for quick drop ins, which are encouraged. They were quick and educational about everything. They answered all my questions and then some. Also fell in love with my puppy as much as we did. Not only did they take care of us they had patients with my son who was not on his best behavior that day. When we had walked out of our appointment one of the employee's had shoveled the snow and even shoveled down my all the cars to make sure no one would slip or fall. Cannot give this place enough praise. They fit us in every time we call with an "emergency" - which is usually just an overprotective dog mom overacting.  We've seen every vet at the clinic and they are all SO amazing, office staff included. They always go above and beyond by getting down to snuggle and play with my pup while examining her, making her feel like the vet is a fun place to go! We adopted our first kitty, Rocket, in April, but since we got him through an agency, we hadn't needed to take him to the vet yet. We didn't stumble upon Lakewood until August when we found Sirius, our tiny kitten, in the streets downtown. He stole our hearts immediately, but we wanted to make sure if was safe to have him around Rocket. So we googled, and Lakewood was the only vet with an opening that day. I'm so glad they were. They were wonderful with Sirius and very thorough. They took a lot of time with us, since neither of us had ever taken care of a kitten so young (about 4 weeks). Yesterday, Rocket was really lethargic, wouldn't eat, and was very withdrawn. We knew something was up, and were very concerned. So we called Lakewood and they got us in almost immediately. Dr. Prior took a lot of time with Rocket and was so patient and kind with him (he was abused before being rescued and can be very skittish). She went over all of his test results with us and helped us figure out how to help our little guy. Today, after some antibiotics and TLC, he seems to be doing much better. I was impressed with the cleanliness, ease of scheduling, and the efforts of the staff to avoid confrontations between dogs. My old puppy doesn't like other dogs, but I noticed the staff making the effort to shield dogs discharging from incoming visitors. We'll be back. Read Less

Our dog developed a large, painful lump on her neck late last night. We called our vet of 10 years this morning and were told they couldn't fit her in and to take her to the emergency vet. We called Lakewood instead and they saw her right away. Her lump was from a sting and she will be fine. Lakewood will be our new vet from now on. Awful awful. The worst service ever. Last time I took my pet for a vaccine the technician gave her the shot in the wrong spot causing really bad swelling and an allergic reaction. I had to take her to the emergency room. This time I took her for a nail trim. They almost cut the hole thing off and the bleeding wouldn't stop. Really? What a disappointment. The only reason why I keep going back is because of Dr. DeQuick. I have never seen anyone so dedicated and patient with animals. He helped me with my old shepherds and I was always happy with him. We love Lakewood! Dr. Lengemann is so good and caring about our dogs. He always presents the pros & cons to every procedure or medicine. I appreciate that he stays up to date on the new science that is released and clearly is very knowledgeable. We've had to make decisions and he's always been able to give a compassionate, empathetic but professional opinion. I have never seen my dog so sick and she is gasping like she can't breathe. I brought her in when she started having reactions and they did noting for her told me her fever is probably because of "being nervous" I can't explain the anger that rushed through my body. And now I have to postpone her operation to get her tooth extracted because I am not okay with her being put under anesthesia with a fever and kennel cough even though they think it's okay... well I think they're incompetent. Their newly staffed with kids fresh out of college with no experience what so ever. I will NEVER recommend anyone coming to this establishment. Also, it is very hard to get legit answers out of the doctors seems like you have to pry it out of them. Oh yeah and when I went 3 times in one week I was seen by 3 different doctors who all told me different things. So inconsistent I have never been so unsatisfied in my life. I have had Lakewood for years as my vet. However they misdiagnosed my cat with feline Luke. Dr. Meth said to put her down. 5 years later and anew vet that has verified otherwise. They also said she has a heart murmer which she does not have either. . Dr. Method needs a new proffesion. She actually argued with me about known facts. My baby is healthy and going on 16. The last week of August my little yorkie (6lbs) got hit by a F250 truck. Thankfully he was not seriously hurt. The biggest thing that happened was his left arm was fractured and his elbow had a little separation in it. Gizmo saw Dr. Prior and she was wonderful. Normally Dr DeQuick is the only dr I would let Gizmo see. But on this occasion I just needed him seen ASAP. Dr Prior was super good to him. She is very caring, compassionate and very easy to talk to and she explains what is going on very well. I was a total wreck when I took Gizmo in; Gizmo is my baby, little man, my son, just part of our family. Since the Dr Prior has been treating Gizmo, David and I are so very pleased with everything she has done. Gizmo doesn't get nervous when his daddy takes him to the doctor, he just wags his little tail and looks around. Gizmo is doing much much better and we owe it all to Dr Prior. The staff there is also great; Tina and Dana are super nice ladies. They are always very professional and caring. He has helped us with a very skittish puppy who, surprisingly, warmed up to him very quickly. He also gave us some tips and feedback for helping our puppy warm up to other people. Not only that, but he clearly cares about animals and his youthful enthusiasm is very comforting. He answers all of my questions thoughtfully and thoroughly, no matter how random. I have been taking all my Animals to Lakewood from the 1st years of business. I was very pleased with them all of those years until the last 2 visits. Peanut my Yorkie got very sick throwing up, diarrhea walking like he was drunk. I thought he was going to die so we took him in and told Dr Meth Peanut had a dead rat pulling the hair out of the rat. So we told her what happen and she wanted to do x rays because she thought a sock was in his stomach. They started him on a IV and antibiotics. Then she wanted more and more test done even when she knew it was rat poison. She doesn't listen to the dog owner she just relies on the damn computer!!!! So I went home looked up Antidote for rat poison and it was Vit.K also if you wait for it to show up into the blood it's too late the dog will die!!!!! So I called her back and asked her about ViT-K and she yes that's an antidote. I said would it hurt him to give it to him and she said no. I said ok give it to him. She said poison isn't showing up in his blood work I said it takes 72 hrs to show up right? she said yes. I said if it does show up then it's too late he will die!!!! So guess what when he got the Vit-K he got better in 8 hrs. Sad that you have to go home to research it for her. She is dumb as a box of rocks!!!! We thought about pulling our dogs from there and I thought to myself no that was just one mess up I will give them another chance. Well I went today for my other Yorkie BB to get blood work done for Phenobarbital medication and have been do that since 11/07. Bb has seizures. 1st time check up don't have to be back for bloodwork for 6 months it went like that for a while then they started every 3 months and now down to 2 weeks!!! just because her level was low. It's always been on the low side and it didn't stop them from giving a 6 months supply until now!!!!! I told them the truth and said I haven't been giving her 2 doses a day only one because it has been working since 07 like that with no seizures. I asked way do I want to give her a higher dose when it is working the way i am doing it? the reason why I didn't give 2 dose a day is because it is hard on the liver. I told them that's way she is she alive today. So I pulled my dogs records and are taking them somewhere else. I like Dr Dequick but could do without the rest even the office. They are Rude!!!!! He needs to get rid of them because they are giving him a bad name. All they do is suck more and more money out of you and they take advantage of a dog that needs the medication to live. I used to take my Weimaraner Graycie there as a puppy, unfortunately we moved to Charlotte and convenience became a huge factor in my decision to change vets. Lakewood is a great animal hospital, great staff and excellent doctors, they made my inexperience at owning a dog easy and pleasant. Graycie loved all the staff and even had a two week stay when I was between homes. They allowed me to come and take her out for a couple of hours on weekends while she was being boarded.Prices are very reasonable compared to the vets I go to now, if it wasn't such a drive for me I would never have left Lakewood Animal Hospital and I miss going to them.I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet in the Mooresville area.
