Dr. Fernando Cardenas has been our vet for over 15 years and has kept our horses in top form which has made us successful at the Grand Prix level throughout the years. I have used 3-H Vet for about 10 years. During this time I have seen several of the Veterinarians. Each one has demonstrated a high level of professionalism, a confident knowledge of their craft, and a genuine care for both the horse and owner. They have had the somber opportunity to put down our dog, Jake and our horse, Tia. They did this tough job with tenderness and grace. They take care of the general health needs for my 3 horses, and are always on call to assist in any emergency, promptly. When I need anything, even at a "last minute", they work hard to meet my needs. In diagnosing conditions like lameness, they leave "no-stone-un-turned" to discover the proper treatment. They took excellent care of my horse throughout her stay last year, and the vet even went above and beyond by texting me pictures of my mare's progress each day, BUT... My ONLY complaint is with their administrative side of the business, and that is a big complaint. The day my mare left their care, I provided them with full payment information. I even called later that day to double check they had all the payment information in order, which they confirmed they did... until I found out half a year later that they NEVER actually charged me. They claimed to have mailed multiple notices, which I never received. I got no phone calls, no emails. Nothing. Until they were about to go to collections, when I finally got a "last warning" email. They charged late fees which have not been removed, even though it was THEIR error. I have been making monthly payments to pay off the balance, which up until now has been going ok. Recently, I told them I would not make another payment until a specific date, and that they were not to charge me until that specific date. The office manager herself told me that would be "no problem" and that there would be a note put on my account. Now, they have taken that money a whole week BEFORE the date I specified, which has completely screwed me over financially. I can't pay my mortgage because someone made a stupid mistake with MY money. To say I am upset is a complete understatement. The vet care was great, but dealing with their admin has been extremely frustrating. I would not use or recommend this vet again, simply because of their inability to properly handle the financial aspect of providing veterinary services.Read Less

I take in a couple of lameness rehabs a year. Horses that no one wants, horses that no other vet can help. I have used Dr. Fernando for all my rehabs. These horses are very difficult cases, their last ditch effort is me, my husband and Dr. Fernando. My most recent rehab, Chief had been a very difficult case. We had been working on him since March of 2015. He had been injected and only minor improvement. We watched as Chief slowly declined with each passing month. I had Dr. Fernando re-evaluate him and we all felt that is was Chief's time to go to greener pastures. He is only 12ish, but he was a 4 out of 5 lame and getting worse. He just hobbled around. Dr. Fernando suggested we try to inject his navicular bursa one more time. So we did. The results have been just shy of a miracle! From the moment Chief had the nerve block he has been sound at the walk. NO bute! I kept waiting for the nerve block to wear off and find him lame again. Thanks to Dr. Fernando, Chief is walking and we are even riding him. I know this poor horse has been lame most of his life. This is the first time he is pain free. Chief's whole attitude and demeanor has changed. The sparkle in his eye is there. No more dull eyes. His top line is even coming up. He holds himself better and more correct. He is putting on weight on and eating. We are thrilled! As an added plus Dr. Fernado travels 2 plus hours to see us and others that need his services. He will split the call fee with others. Dr. Fernando is a great vet all around but I would not take a lame horse to anyone other than him! He is the very best at diagnosing and treating lameness and he is very good about explaining things to me as the owner.
