They treated one GSD for over a year for EPI and we finally were told by another vet that we should take her to a specialist since we could not get her to gain weight. Plus, she had cataracts that were missed by Dr. Wilkins on several visits, and a vet filling in just happened to walk in and immediately tell us that was one of her problems. Dr. Wilkins wife told another vet that one of our dogs was aggressive which was untrue. The dog had never done anything to warrant her saying that. I had asked them not to get down in his face and talk high pitched because he might jump on them, but that does not make him aggressive. Most dogs will jump on you if you talk high pitched to them. Common sense should tell people big dogs especially should not be talked to in a high pitched voice, but people are idiots. Same thing with getting in a dogs face, especially one that doesn't know you. I mean it's a vet's office, you think these especially would know or understand, but apparently not. She argued with me and was very rude. If you want your wallet to be empty go here, they are the highest around, you'll get argued with, your dog will get labeled unjustly, and other dogs will not get adequate treatment.

I brought my cat in because he seemed to be having some type of seizure or nerve damage affecting his legs. Ultimately it was determined that it was a heart condition & he needed to be euthanized. The staff was very kind and patient with me. They realized I was not expecting the outcome and gave me time to absorb the information and make my decision.

Quick trip today just for bordetalla vaccine for my 3 furbabies, but I've been going there since moving in the area about 16+ yrs. Started out with Dr Widdowson & continued with Dr. Wilkens after 1st vet retired. Had one occasion when a new vet was going to be brought on years ago that angered me. She wasn't kept as an employee. I've had nothing but positive experiences with both other vets & staff regarding apts. questions, explanations and phone conversations.

I took my geriatric dog here for an ear infection because I could not get her in to see her vet sooner. I was hesitant to do this because I had been here years ago and was not completely happy but I was worried about my dog's ears and so I went.
During her examination, of other than just her ears, I felt like she was treated differently from a younger dog. Concerns I showed were not met with patience, explanation and did not answer my questions directly. Matter of fact, the only thing I took away from Pilot when I walked out was about her ears.
I took her in to see her regular vet today, which is 10 days later than the visit I had with Pilot. They found a heart murmur, which Pilot had not found.
If you are looking to have a vet talk with you on the tiny details with your dog's health, this is not the right place. You can tell that the vet does not have the time to do this, too.

I had a couple of bad experiences at this clinic many, many years ago, and swore I'd never go back. BUT I recently learned that the vets on staff have changed and much to the better. Recently, a cat was hit by a car in front of my house at 4:30 on a Friday. It wasn't even my cat, but I marched into their office just before closing with the poor thing in my coat with a broken back.
They didn't give me a hard time about it being an "emergency visit" or closing time or what it was going to cost. (That's all I got when I called Animal Medical Services in Mount Airy). They gently diagnosed the poor kitty as not survivable, put it to sleep to stop its suffering and charged me for the drugs only. Everyone wants a vet who can put business aside at the right time and still remembers why they became a vet in the first place. I'm moving back to the area with five spoiled cats and two dogs in tow. They need a good vet with a heart. I'll definitely be back.

We have used their services for rabies shots. Yesterday, January 11, 2016 our dog was kicked by a horse. Several hours later as she was losing control of her bowels, unable to walk, and started yowling we decided she had to be euthanized. I called PMAH. Between sobs and tears i asked if we could bring the dog in to be put down, her final shot.The receptionist asked if we had used them before, our name, pet's name. She said that we could bring the dog in at 2:30, an hour and 15 minutes wait.As i hear Tootsie crying out in pain i explained we would go elsewhere.The next call was to Mt. Airy Vet. Hospital. We have also used them in the past. There was no qualifying questions asked and was told to come immediately. Dr. Truban was not in but arrived within minutes. Five stars to Mt. Airy and Dr. Truban

I started carrying my pets here nearly 14 years ago upon a recommendation from my newly adopted boxer's breeder, and I've never been disappointed! (My boxer loved going here so much that he would jump in the truck whenever I told him we were visiting the vet!) They are great at managing appointments. The waiting room is never crowded, and they are very quick to get you and your pet back in to an examination room. On the rare occasions that I had to board my dogs there, I always found the kennels clean. Dr. Wilkins and his staff are so incredibly compassionate and caring! I always know that my pets are getting the best care, and he gives very sound advice. Sadly, we had to put our long time furry family member down this past week, and Dr. Wilkins was gracious enough to make a house call so we didn't have to bring her in. Two days later I received a sympathy card from the Pilot Mountain Animal Hospital staff in the mail. Surry County is fortunate to have such a great veterinarian in our community.

These folks are more than just our vet. These have become our friends! My parents brought their pets here when I was a child (I'm over 40 now!). This is not the most convenient vet for me but I actually go out of my way to take my animals to them because of how they, and we, are treated. I have tried other vets a couple of times over the years but I can't express how much I appreciate the compassion, honesty and fairness that we receive here. Wonderful doesn't even begin to describe the staff and services here!

When we moved to Pilot, I put off changing vets because I was so happy with my vet. Finally, the long drive, nearly 30 minutes became too much and I realized it wasn't safe to be so far from vet care in case of an emergency. I have never regretted my decision, this vet is great. The whole place is clean and sparkling. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable, which helps because owning animals is expensive and is not something to be taken on if you can not afford to care for them. But, it is also nice that this vet doesn't bully you into unnecessary treatments or care. My dogs used to be terrified of the vet, like children, no one likes shots. But they are happy to come here and are treated well by cheerful staff.

I had a couple of bad experiences at this clinic many, many years ago, and swore I'd never go back. BUT I recently learned that the vets on staff have changed and much to the better. Recently, a cat was hit by a car in front of my house at 4:30 on a Friday. It wasn't even my cat, but I marched into their office just before closing with the poor thing in my coat with a broken back.
They didn't give me a hard time about it being an "emergency visit" or closing time or what it was going to cost. (That's all I got when I called Animal Medical Services in Mount Airy). They gently diagnosed the poor kitty as not survivable, put it to sleep to stop its suffering and charged me for the drugs only. Everyone wants a vet who can put business aside at the right time and still remembers why they became a vet in the first place. I'm moving back to the area with five spoiled cats and two dogs in tow. They need a good vet with a heart. I'll definitely be back.

We have used their services for rabies shots. Yesterday, January 11, 2016 our dog was kicked by a horse. Several hours later as she was losing control of her bowels, unable to walk, and started yowling we decided she had to be euthanized. I called PMAH. Between sobs and tears i asked if we could bring the dog in to be put down, her final shot.The receptionist asked if we had used them before, our name, pet's name. She said that we could bring the dog in at 2:30, an hour and 15 minutes wait.As i hear Tootsie crying out in pain i explained we would go elsewhere.The next call was to Mt. Airy Vet. Hospital. We have also used them in the past. There was no qualifying questions asked and was told to come immediately. Dr. Truban was not in but arrived within minutes. Five stars to Mt. Airy and Dr. Truban

I started carrying my pets here nearly 14 years ago upon a recommendation from my newly adopted boxer's breeder, and I've never been disappointed! (My boxer loved going here so much that he would jump in the truck whenever I told him we were visiting the vet!) They are great at managing appointments. The waiting room is never crowded, and they are very quick to get you and your pet back in to an examination room. On the rare occasions that I had to board my dogs there, I always found the kennels clean. Dr. Wilkins and his staff are so incredibly compassionate and caring! I always know that my pets are getting the best care, and he gives very sound advice. Sadly, we had to put our long time furry family member down this past week, and Dr. Wilkins was gracious enough to make a house call so we didn't have to bring her in. Two days later I received a sympathy card from the Pilot Mountain Animal Hospital staff in the mail. Surry County is fortunate to have such a great veterinarian in our community.

These folks are more than just our vet. These have become our friends! My parents brought their pets here when I was a child (I'm over 40 now!). This is not the most convenient vet for me but I actually go out of my way to take my animals to them because of how they, and we, are treated. I have tried other vets a couple of times over the years but I can't express how much I appreciate the compassion, honesty and fairness that we receive here. Wonderful doesn't even begin to describe the staff and services here!

When we moved to Pilot, I put off changing vets because I was so happy with my vet. Finally, the long drive, nearly 30 minutes became too much and I realized it wasn't safe to be so far from vet care in case of an emergency. I have never regretted my decision, this vet is great. The whole place is clean and sparkling. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable, which helps because owning animals is expensive and is not something to be taken on if you can not afford to care for them. But, it is also nice that this vet doesn't bully you into unnecessary treatments or care. My dogs used to be terrified of the vet, like children, no one likes shots. But they are happy to come here and are treated well by cheerful staff.
