I am beyond impressed with the way the entire staff handled themselves today. From my phone call, all the way to check out. I had an emergency and had to come in. They had me come in immediately, with a full waiting area - they brought us back within 5 mins of us being there. Dr. Wilson was thorough and never left our side. They explained everything every step of the way, and ensured our fur baby was well taken care of and comfortable. They were even able to get our baby caught up on her rabies, since we just moved in from our of state 2 weeks ago. They were greatly priced as well. We will definitely be long time patients, as long as we are in the area! They allowed me to email the out of state vet records, and while I was there in front of the Dr they even had me call the other vet. They were extremely patient, even knowing their waiting room was full mid day...mind you the day before a major holiday for pets (July 4th).Thank you again Bayleaf!! Read Less

I've been going to Bayleaf for the last 2 years. The last month, I've had 2 emergency visits due to having dogs that like to play rough. Bayleaf has always been accommodating and gotten me in the same day to make sure my pups were ok. Please, wherever you go, be a good patient/customer and call ahead! This review is only for the boarding side of Bayleaf. I will say that the staff seemed nice and helpful. We had Penny, who is a 5 year old boxer, boarded for four days. We had brought her bed, food, a toy, blanket and bowls. We let them know when we made the appointment and when we dropped her off that she was on a strict diet due to having a sensitive stomach. Plenty of food was brought and we even called and checked on her; being told that she was fine. BUT, when I picked her up things didn't look so good. I noticed that her food bin that we had brought for her had hardly been touched and nothing was said about her not feeling well. I assumed she was in good shape. There were no bowls, no dog toy, no blanket and they couldn't locate them. By the time I got her home she immediately wanted to go on the grass and clearly, without getting graphic, severe diarrhea and hydration. This didn't develop on the 15 minute ride home from Bayleaf. It was clear immediately after we got home that she was not given the proper food and it took three days to get her stomach back in order. I definitely wouldn't recommend Bayleaf for anyone's pet. This review is about the boarding service at Bayleaf.  I see so many positive reviews of this facility that I feel obligated to share our experience boarding our dog there several years ago.  I will mention that we did not use veterinary services there for our dog.   I chose to board  her there because it is a full-service vet and she had medical needs (diabetic).  We were gone for almost a week.  We left our contact information etc. and never heard from them. It turns out that Lily had not eaten pretty much the entire time. The staff, however, continued to give her insulin.  Her veterinarian said that that should not be standard protocol. She lost about  4 pounds and was severely dehydrated when we picked her up. No one said anything to me about her not eating until I picked her up.  She was so dehydrated, that I needed to take her to the emergency after hours vet to get her hydration. I never approached the business owner, and in retrospect I really should have. Within 3 to 4 months of her stay there, Lily lost her eyesight. I did not make the connection to her just regulated blood sugar for 6 to 7 days until a couple of  years later. Read Less

I board my dog at Bayleaf when I travel, and I the team there really is a family, they are so welcoming and kind to him (he has bad separation anxiety and allergies). Dr. Wilson has spent countless hours with me and my dog Archer to create care plans so we can work through his chronic anxiety and allergy issues. You can tell how much they truly care for their patients. My 6-month-old puppy was vomiting and had stopped eating altogether. He was seen the same day I called, and Dr. Bean at Bayleaf provided fast and thorough care, and she offered genuine concern and compassion for my puppy and for me. Bayleaf seems to be purposefully conservative with their treatments, to both keep costs down and to avoid unnecessary interventions. My pup ended up needing surgery two days later to remove a foreign object that was causing a bowel obstruction, and both the vet and the surgeon were straightforward, compassionate, respectful and responsive. And while money is certainly not the most important factor when choosing medical care for a pet, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable that Bayleaf is with pricing, especially considering the amazing quality care we received. I am glad to have found this vet, and so thankful that my little guy is on the mend. Read Less

I switched to this vet due to the long drive to my current one based on a recommendation. I also love that there is more than one veterinarian on staff, and one is always on call during weekends. The veterinarians here are fantastic. The two that I have seen provided excellent care for my dogs, comforting them in their stressful visit. They listened to my concerns, and clearly answered my questions. I am giving a 3 star rating due to the office staff. Some members of the office team are pretty rude and do not care about the customers. On my last phone call regarding an appointment time, the employee told me to leave my dog in the car in the summer instead of waiting in the waiting area. I was left feeling not cared about and concerned about the hospital in general. Additionally, my dog can be vocal due to anxiety and the glares I receive do not help. I am concerned that they have become too popular for their own good. I am only still going here because of their excellent veterinarians. Read Less

Today was our first visit to Bayleaf. It was great! The staff members were very friendly and helpful. We were seen by the dr. without waiting. I switched from another local animal hospital because the fees were getting out of control and the pressure to opt for more procedures was getting frustrating. I'm so glad I switched. My 6 year old lab got the exact same vaccines, nail trim, well check up and a 12 month supply of flea and tick meds that she received last year at the other place and the bill was just over $250 less at Bayleaf! I did not feel that the quality of care was any less than at the more expensive place. Very pleased! Read Less

Short story: lied to about boarding facilities and paid so much I could have had in home pet service come instead. Actual story: I was referred to Bayleaf by someone I work with and both of my cats have recently been hospitalized so I decided to follow the recommendation and board them both for a 10 day vacation. When I originally made the appointment I informed them that one of the cats is finishing up antibiotics for a UTI and crystals in his urine and both of them went into anaphylactic shock after receiving their vaccines. Needless to say they had been through a lot leading up to me having to board them so I was concerned about them being stressed out and safe. I was told that they would be well cared for in their cat room thats kept separate from all of the dogs. When I dropped them off the tech came and got both of them and took them to the back and when I asked if I could say goodbye they told me I wasn't allowed in the back. That made me nervous but they explained because it "stresses them out". Fast forward 10 days, I picked them up about an hour ago and I instisted that they let me in the back to get them. They didn't seem happy about it but eventually let me back there after I paid my $400. The conditions were horrible and not at all what the lady on the phone initially described to me. There was no "cat room". She opens the door and there were dogs barking so loudly in unnerved me, and unlike my cats, I've been around dogs before. It was so loud and so cramped. Both of my cats were insanely freaked out and when I asked the tech who escorted me back why they weren't in a separate cat room, the first thing she said was "oh today is the first day we have had dogs in this room." Then when I snapped a little she told me that they in fact had NO CAT ROOM. So I find it hard to believe that this was the first day there were dogs in there, don't lie. Paying $400 for two cats for 10 days is expensive especially when the facility is not upfront about the conditions they'll be housed in after being hospitalized prior to dropping them off. I have learned my lesson to actually vet these facilities myself before committing, but I hope this review helps some of those other pet owners out there that don't enjoy being swindled. Protect your babies and don't board them here. I can't comment on their veterinary practice but ya safe to say I won't be giving them a chance. And if they don't let you in the back when you're dropping them off to see the facility, my advice would be to leave.Read Less

Watch out for Emily. We were customers for over 20 years and always kept our accounts in good standing. One of their nurses even adopted our cat when we moved. We thought the world of this practice. Well, we took our dog for an energency visit over a weekend and Dr. Ferguson was amazing and got our dog better. When it came time to pay she told us she would have her staff call us in the coming week since, as she told us, she did not know how to manage payment on weekends. We were never contacted about the amount even though we called to pay another balance at a later time after the emergency visit. Well 8 months later we get a letter from a collections company saying our Bayleaf account has been turned over to collections. We never received one phone call or statement from them in all that time. They claim they mailed 7 statements, one a month, but we never got even one. We have been getting ALL our other mail. Dr. Ferguson has also changed her story and is claiming she told us we'd receive a statement. Cant blame her, as she was probably being nice during the visit, and now that corporate is asking her if she said the staff would call, shes denyig it because her job is on the line. How peculiar. When trying to discuss it with Emily, she was as rude as her poor little heart could be, and proceeded to hang up on us. Our issue was that they did not care that this may affect our credit and could have given a heads up when multiple statements werent replied to. Plus, during talks with Emily and Lindsay, we were requesting that the interest be taken off bc we are more than willing to pay the overdue balance! We want to pay what we owe for services rendered. But they explicitly stated that they dont call customers for overdue balances. Basically they wait til it's overdue and then turn it over to collections. No concept of loyalty or customer appreciation. Great service....but only if you dont talk back. Switched to Complete Pet Care and wont be looking back. Read Less

She stayed on the phone with me for almost 45 minutes answering my questions & telling me all I needed to know. We set up a Friday appointment to get a more through exam & an additional heartworm test.Cooper was coughing bad & I wanted to get him checked out. So I called Thursday morning & they were able to squeeze him in. Dr. Wilson & his staff are compassionate, understanding & very knowledgable. The office is very nice & exam rooms are adequate. If you want to take your fur babies to a place where the staff is not only knowledgeable, but kind, this is the place to go. Top notch people and top notch care. Recently came here on recommendation for a dental cleaning for my dog.  Won't be referring anyone to Bayleaf.  At drop off, tech offered additional services like pre panel blood work and a heart test- which I opted in for. I also requested my dogs nails be cut- they said sure no problem and offered to dremel them too.  At pick up, my woozy dog was handed to me and tech walked off.  No at home instructions, or things to watch for after anesthesia.    Never spoke with a vet to discuss procedure or see any proof that additional sold services were actually performed.  Not all dogs nails were cut, and no dremel work.  Lousy service, feels like they got too big to provide good service. Total bummer. Read Less

We have used this vet for a long time for our hairball prone cat.  They can always manage to fit us in and have even let me take the cat home over the weekend when the cat was admitted.   They have always made me feel that I am involved in the cat's care and have allowed me to decide if I am comfortable taking him home or not and have always listened to me.  As for price, I once had to put the cat into a clinic nearby on a Sunday and they wanted three times the price to keep the cat overnight.  I feel that I get value here and feel that I am a valued customer. **This review is for the grooming services at Bayleaf Veterinary Hospital. I recently took our dog (a black 5lb Maltipoo) to Bayleaf for a groom. We adored our old groomer but we could no longer make the long drive. I first called Bayleaf in late April and they said they could not get me in until August. I was shocked. The receptionist then said that she would cancel her own appointment in order to fit me in the schedule in two weeks. I took it as a good sign that they were so booked and I scheduled the grooming. When I went in on my scheduled day they said they did not have a record of my appointment. I was pretty upset because I had waited for two weeks for this grooming. They said they could fit me in that day even though I didn't have an appointment (in their books). I didn't have a great feeling but I dropped my dog  off anyways. The groomer didn't ask me anything about how I would like him cut. I just said it would probably have to be shorter than usual because he had a couple of mats. When we picked up Suby we were shocked with what he looked like. They cut him exactly like a poodle. His face had never been cut like that. His ears were also not even and you could see that they didn't pay attention to the cut. He also still had tangles in his tail and it was also cut uneven. The grooming was not only what we didn't want but it wasn't a good cut. He left longer hairs in the ears and we had to trim them when we got home. Our dog got home and peed for about 30 seconds. I take it that they didn't let him out almost all day. We will not be going back here. Short story:Long wait and bad grooming Read Less

I tried several vets in Raleigh before i found Bayleaf and I haven't stopped going to them since the mid 1980's.  Dr. Craig Wilson is excellent - great "bedside" manner and gives you the time and explanation that you need and conveys confidence in his knowledge and experience.  He doesn't always have the answers, but will refer to a specialist when necessary.  I also like the other doctors.  I usually also see Dr. Ferguson and she's right on top of things.  They have a lot of new staff at the front desk now and I don't know them very well.   It's an efficient operation and you seldom have to wait long.  It's situated next to a busy gas station and parking can sometimes be difficult.  They're open half days on Saturday and you can call a doctor after hours for emergency assistance. If there was a recommendation higher than five stars I would give it.  Dr. Craig Wilson at the Bayleaf Veterinary Hospital is by far the best around and we went to a few places before settling here.  For the past nine years, his experience, knowledge and patience caring for my labrador retriever through 4 knee surgeries, yearly check ups and the inevitable bumps and bruises in the life of an active dog have been a true comfort and blessing to us both.  With his intelligent, honest and caring bed side manner, he takes the time to answer all your questions and make his clients feel at ease.  Even after moving, we would drive the hour commute just to get the best.  The staff is friendly and helpful and although I never recall waiting for an appointment, if I did, I knew it was because he was taking the necessary time with each patient. Read Less

Read Less

Needless to say they had been through a lot leading up to me having to board them so I was concerned about them being stressed out and safe.I was told that they would be well cared for in their cat room thats kept separate from all of the dogs. And if they don't let you in the back when you're dropping them off to see the facility, my advice would be to leave. Read Less

Bayleaf Veterinary Hospital is a kind of Unicorn. It's singularly rare in its ability to be advanced clinical care, surgical hospital, boarding and grooming. Doing all these things with the highest of standards! Their DVMs combine both an advanced diagnostic approach and old fashioned gentle sense to help pet parents treat their fur babies. We have been with Dr. Wilson since 1992 and wouldn't consider moving from this practice. Read Less

Read Less

I had recently adopted a yellow lab from Wake County Animal Shelter. He is heartworm positive & the shelter gave me a list of low cost, affordable vets who could afford the treatment. Bayleaf was one of them. I called on Thursday to get more information & the girl I talked to (who handles the heartworm positive animals) was so kind & informative. Sadly, I had to give Cooper to a lab rescue, as he was too much for my Milo & I. But I am happy that we had a good experience at Bayleaf. Read Less

I switched to Bayleaf Veterinary Hospital after years of overpriced, poor care at another local vet. What a difference. Bayleaf is much more reasonable in price, and they do not try to shove unwanted services on our pets. The fact that they have a doctor on call for emergencies on weekends is a major plus. The staff always demonstrates an interest in our pets. More veterinary practices should be like them. Read Less

Excellent clinical team.  HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with the groomer.  That's all this guy is...a groomer.  My dog went in healthy, came out injured with no apology or explanation other than a shrug of the shoulders.  In spite of our video showing my dog limping that day...  Amazing how one side of the business could be so good and the independent groomer be allowed to damage everyone's reputation.  Must be a revenue thing.  It's surely not a customer service play. Best vet office I've ever visited. The staff are always polite and welcoming - everyone from the staff that checks you in, to the vet, to the check out crew. Their prices are some of the best I've seen. Great customer service. I love that they provide the option of chatting with staff via email. I've set up numerous appointments this way and will email before I ever call. Their hours are wonderful, offering evening and weekend hours. I can't say enough about this vet office! The only opportunity I can think of is for them to cut down a little on the time you have to wait after checking in. It's something you'll want to be aware of so you can adjust your schedule if needed. For me, this is a small thing considering all the positives. Read Less

I've been taking my fur babies to Bayleaf since I moved to Raleigh in 2002. I have never encountered kinder people who truly care about the work they are doing and the "clients" they are treating. My Beagle, who passed, was always treated very well by the staff at Bayleaf. After he was gone, the staff sent me a sympathy card. I was touched. My current dog, a rescue named Sophie, does not like going to the vet, but the people there are always kind to her and take excellent care of her. I have needed last minute appointments on occasions and Bayleaf has always found a way to fit me in. My pet's needs are always taken care of and I trust and respect everyone there.
