Gentle care goes above and beyond for my dog. She is often fearful of men, so the male vet spent a bit of extra time just letting her get comfortable with him before the exam. I also love the convenient daycare packages. I can just drop her off before work and pick her up quickly afterwards. She always comes out exhausted, so I really only have to do it once a week now. They really are the best deal for daycare that I've found in the area. If she ever needs a checkup or shots they'll just take care of it while she's at daycare. Dr. Malo is one of the best veterinarians I've met! My dog slipped a disk in his back while playing, and needed x-rays. Dr. Malo called us that night at 8:45 pm to give us the results. She then proceeded to stay on the phone with us for almost an hour answering questions about his results. She genuinely cares about her patients and owners. I've been going to Gentle Care with my pup for about 3 years now and they've been amazing! Even though I moved away, I will still drive to Gentle Care because the care they provide is phenomenal. My dog, Misty, has health issues which were very difficult to diagnose, requiring ultrasounds, a biopsy and multiple medications. Dr. Bailey has been absolutely amazing in taking care of Misty, explaining every step to me, reassuring me and trying to find less expensive care options. I trust her fully and she even makes sure that, if she's out of town, Dr. Mallow knows the details of the case and can help out. I was in desperate need of a boarding facility after a large commercial boarding facility (Initials of the location are: Petsmart) left me high and dry 2 hours before leaving town. My furry babies are in good hands here. The staff does a great job going over my pet's history and is up front with costs. While it's pricey, particularly for senior animals, I don't feel it is overpriced. And they give you the option on certain tests. Never feel pressured to do more. I have been going here for two years. My dog is in daycare here at least twice a week. The vets, techs and staff are incredibly kind and Misty (dog) freaking loves going whether she is there for day care or vet or anything else. That said I want to help people who want to go here and have seen the handful of negative reviews. There is only one problem: COST. No this place isn't expensive. But things can get costly fast when the vets (there are a few) decide to run test after test and start treating the dog. This isn't there fault. The vets do one thing at this place; they provide the BEST POSSIBLE CARE with little regard for the cost. So that leaves you (new customer) with two options. Option 1: Be very aware of the costs. Ask lots of questions and require that they contact you for approval of any tests or procedures. You can save a lot that way. Option 2: (I WISH I had gone this route) Get Pet Insurance. Yeah, that's it. If you buy pet insurance these guys/gals will keep your dog in the best condition possible at a very low cost to you (though your poor insurance company may go broke). Hope that helps anyone looking here. They really are the best and I have never been so happy with a vet's office before. People complain about the cost a lot because I think they feel side-swiped the first time they go in for something small and come out with a $1,000 bill. Read Less

Outstanding Care! I highly recommend Dr. Krahn and the entire staff of Gentle Care. After an initial visit/grooming with another veterinarian in the area, I left feeling unsatisfied with the level of care. I cancelled the appointment to spay our doberman there. I chose to try Gentle Care based on recommendations from friends and am so glad I did! We took her in for bloodwork and to schedule the surgery. Dr. Krahn immediately recognized some pretty significant symptoms and diagnosed her with Pyometra (uterine infection). Gentle Care saved my dogs life! The surgery was complicated for a number of other issues and Im confident that she was in the BEST possible hands. The whole team was caring and informative, providing me with updates during her recovery. Dr. Krahn even went in on her day off to check on her and called me personally with the good news. I continue to be impressed with the outstanding level of professionalism, knowledge, and skill that I witness at each visit. My wife and I have entrusted Dr. Krahn and the Gentle Care staff with caring for our four legged children for over 15 years. We have had to deal with various cancers, organ diseases, and just plain old age over the years. Dr. Krahn has always provided us with plans and options for maintaining our pets quality of life, respecting our decisions and been honest when letting us know when it was time to let go. Dr. Krahn has been our primary vet, but we would be remiss not to mention Dr. Mallo. She has been a marvelous back-up when Dr. Krahn has not been available. If I could give this place 6 stars I would! I got my pug puppy when she was 8 weeks old and took her to GCAH until she was about a year old and moved out of state. After trying to find a new vet I have found it quite difficult to find anyone to be even close to as good as GCAH. The staff is so friendly, helpful, and never gave me any bad impressions. First let me state this review is for the veterinary services. The boarding is wonderful I cannot compliment the boarding staff enough. They are polite, patient and caring.  I have 3 rescue pets, two dogs and one cat. One dog was severely beaten and traumatized. I have never ever left her with anyone in 13 years. Situations arise where I had no alternative so I explained her past and they showed her great patience and at my request took her out privately instead of with all the boarded dogs. I called everyday they never acted annoyed or disconcerned. Im soooo appreciative of the care they provide my old terrified blind dog. At times they even called me after just to give me updates. After my unfortunate situation it meant the world to me. However, the veterinary side is a mess. It's big and beautiful and very misleading to say the least.  Because the boarding staff was so amazing to work with, I incorrectly assumed the physicians would be the same animal loving, kind, patient, loyal, understanding people with high integrity that the boarding staff was. After all management sets the expectation. I was so wrong. I continued to bring my pets here for years, hoping to feel that same sense of security. I even had to put down my older cat, we were all in tears. Even the vet.However what never set well with me was, I was always given a laundry list of "suggestions" when my animals went in for routine visits and when they were not well and It always totaled $1000. I have had pets all my life and I have never ever been given a list of suggestions and asked to pick what I want to do. So I started really feeling things were not right.  I am now married and my wife is a physician. The doctor should provide you direction and the best possible procedure. If money is a problem, alternatives can be provided to minimize cost or because animals cannot speak for themselves and provide direction. There is a process of escalation to eliminate what there may or not be present. In no way should a sonogram, X-rays and a CT Scan all be suggested to be completed at the same time. Not even basic minimal routine blood work was not taken.  I was given an estimate for $2,000 and told to do all 3. That's absurd for basically what is common feline issues. I asked which of these I want to do. Really should I be making the call here?  The suggestion was to do all 3, I personally know all 3 are redundant. Sure each procedure is different but all are looking for the same thing. Each procedure is better than the other. Why all 3???  A CT scan won't miss anything. However, a x Ray May and a sonogram may miss something.  This was for what is very common in cats. Blood in urine, it can even be simply just stress from lifestyle changes. And no suggestion to even draw blood to see if something really was off or going wrong in the body. At this point I knew something was very wrong. Armed with my wife's knowledge and my suspicions that they always overcharged and based it on using people's emotions and love for their pets. I called my wife and took pictures of the paperwork, she suggest I leave and never return, so I took my cat and we left!!! At another veterinarian, we had 2 office visits (only had to pay for one because the 2nd was a follow up), blood drawn,a round of antibiotics, and  2 direct urine cultures completed all for under $225 and a time frame of 2 weeks and my cat is perfectly well. My cat went to gentle care for 3 months I spent $1,000 and my cat still had the same issue 3 months later. I never told my new vet of the issue and what had been completed at the Gentle Care. So we started fresh. I feel like I did a disservice to our poor cat. This went on for way to long, and cost way to much, and they charged me for office visits each time!!!  Oh and it took them 1 week to get labs back and it cost 3 times as much. My new veterinarian can get lab work back on the spot for 1/3rd the cost and a 12-20 minute wait. All completed on the spot, no multiple office visits to up charge me. Gentle care you should pay me back my money, shame on you for using people's emotions and love for their family pets and loved ones!  To anyone who thinks I'm bitter or exaggerating read every review. Hidden or not and notice almost every review states something about their cost and their tactics. If we are paying for services and you are competent in your field of expertise why are you not telling us the correct next steps instead your provide us a laundry list of cost and tell us to pick what we want. I would have paid anything for my cats health, even if it was $20,000. I would do whatever it takes, you abuse our love for our extended family members. You know your tactics are not right, pray for forgiveness and change your ways. Again, I salute and have nothing but compliments for the boarding facility and the boarding staff at the time I was using their facility. Just like a prior review, I feel pretty misled & taken advantage of. Brought our otherwise healthy lab in for a rash on his belly...figured it was allergies but needed something a little stronger to knock the rash out. Waited until 11:25 to be called back, when we arrived for our 11:00 appointment on time....then spent another 10 minutes in the exam room. $700 later we were on our way with a bag of shampoo & pills. Granted, we did buy heart worm preventative for our other dog & our lab is a big boy (more pills=more money) I had to turn down a slew of tests for thyroid disease, etc. I guess I'm of the philosophy, treat what issue is at hand & if it doesn't work or gets worse...then let's go down that road. I'd really hate to go to the doctor for a cold & get tested for cancer. I should've picked up on their business philosophy when the vet tech said "I don't want to hit you with any surprise costs" We won't be returning to this veterinarian & advise you ask for all costs upfront before scheduling an appointment. All of the staff at Gentle Care are wonderful. I have been taking my 4 kitties to them for years, and I have always felt very happy with them and their interactions with my babies and with me. Just this past week, I lost one of my precious kitties, Lexie...my first 'child', who was with me for 19 years, and a year prior to her passing, I lost my sweet Carly, who was 18 years old. The staff went above and beyond in both situations to be caring and sympathetic, and I was overwhelmed with how thoughtful they were during these very challenging times. I am very grateful to them. I found Gentle Care because my newly adopted dog started vomiting uncontrollably and a different vet turned me away. I'm pretty sure I rushed into the GC freaking out like "my dog is not okay" and they immediately calmed me and tended to her.For the past year and a half, they've literally been the best vet I've ever been to. At this point I'm pretty sure I've met all of the doctors, techs, and misc. staff, and they're all amazing. My dog Olive was diagnosed with heartworm and they walked me through getting financing and treatment ASAP. They call after visits to ask me how she's doing. They've called when she's exhibited bizarre behavior at daycare or during boarding. I just got my dog's medical records as well, and they've documented so much they might as well own Olive herself.If you live nearby a GentleCare and you have an animal, use them. I have some mixed feelings.  I took my cat here for grooming today. First and foremost- do they give pets water when they are there all day???  My kitty was so thirsty when he got back.  (We just got back.)  He is lapping up water like I've never seen him do before.  Poor thing! So the drop-off time is 8 AM, but the groomer doesn't get there until 8:40 or some obscure time.  And they told me to bring his rabies vaccination info.  No problem-  he had a whole series of shots and a physical exam in late September. But.....Upon arrival, they told me he was missing one of his shots.  So it's $25.  No big deal, right?  But they also told me they need to do a full exam, when he JUST HAD ONE 8 months ago.  So a $65 lion cut is now turning into more than double that.  It was $59 for the exam.  So $149 later, he had his grooming done. That said, the Vet seemed professional and nice when I met with her. The groomer did a pretty good job on his lion cut.I just feel misled and a little bit taken advantage of.  I wouldn't mind all of this if he hadn't just had it done.It's too bad, because I think the groomer is talented.  I'm just not sure I'm comfortable continuing to go here.  He already has a good vet elsewhere, so the purpose was only for grooming needs.  It's hard to find a good pet groomer, willing to work on cats in Raleigh. Gentle Care took care of my cat for a few years. I bring him in for routine checkups and also the occasional teeth cleaning. I always enjoyed that the vet took time to check on my cat's general well being and would ask questions to find out if everything is okay.  I like that they send me reminders when my cat is due for something or other. Some trusted friends and family members recommended Gentle Care to me.  I've only been once but so far I really liked my experience here.  The vet tech Alex was awesome and super attentive to my pups they seemed to really trust him, which is a big plus.  Dr. Parker was the vet who saw my pups she did a thorough examination, and I didn't feel pressured at all she seemed to really care about my dogs.  They also have a boarding facility and I've heard good things about their groomer as well.   Doggie daycare seems to be very popular here.Overall I thought their prices were fair and I feel like I found a new trusted vet to take care of my babies.*You can pay right in the exam room with the vet tech without having to check out at the front desk - convenient and time saving for sure! We've been using Gentle Care as our vet since we moved to Raleigh in 2001. Our pug, Bart, loves going here. He gets excited when we pull up.The staff are very friendly and professional.The services are as advertised. We do extended boarding when we travel and can't take the dog. They offer play time in 10 and 15 minute intervals so they'd not kept in the kennel all day. This is perfect for our elder pug as he only has a 10 minute battery anyway. They also have a daycare program, but we've never used it before.Their groomers do a good job of trimming his nails, which we try to avoid doing ourselves.They do try to up-sell a bit, but really they are looking out for the best interests of the animals. I have been known to say 'no' to the annual teeth cleaning. We fudge and do it every 2-3 years instead.There's a vet less than 1000 yds down the street we coudl walk Bart to, but we still take the 15 minute drive across town to Gentle Care. Read Less

You know that feeling where a mechanic is adding on additional "fixes" and charges just to jack up the price of car maintenance? I had that unmistakable feeling at this vet's office. I hate to be critical, but I have never experienced such high price tags than I have here on my few visits. The vet tried to talk me into many different tests, products, and procedures, many of which were just for the vanity of the pet. I care very deeply about my pet's health, and it was hard to say no, but it soon became apparent that they were just trying to hard sell me on unnecessary things.Let's just say I spent more on a  routine check-up and minor ear infection than I had in the past 3 years at my previous vet.However, they do seem very competent and caring with your pet.
