Not a fan. Again, I generally put effort into reviews of spots that I either love or hate, leading to primarily of 1, 4, and 5 stars. We recently moved to the Raleigh DT area and thought we'd try out Hayes Barton. We first went in for one of our two dogs for a physical. We thought prices would be a bit more reasonable moving from DC, where you would expect to pay more for, well, just about everything. :o) Ehh, we weren't impressed, but I won't knock them too much. I think they were slightly less expensive, but still not cheap. It just seemed like they charged for every little thing and we didn't think we got the value we were getting even up in DC.So it wasn't really this per se, but what happened afterward. We ended up having some relatively serious medical issues with our dogs a few months later and went back to HB. Basically, between 4 or so many visits, we were charged over a $1000 for them to not find the answer for why our dogs were having issues, which we thought were related. They didn't know, so they just seemed to chalk it up to repeated allergic reactions that they have never had in the past, EVER (they are 1 year old and 4 years old). We just felt like we were not getting any answers after all that money spent and them suggesting more and more medication and tests. They kind of dropped the ball on a couple more minor scheduling issues (e.g. when follow-ups are necessary), but the final straw was our last or second to last visit when they told us the bacteria culture came up with nothing in it and suggested that "about once a month, in-transit, a batch of cultures might not make it intact to the testing facility, therefore, making the test inconclusive." I'm like WHAT?! No REFUND, no apologies. It was just "one of those things." Yep, we canceled any further appointments after the last one and never looked back. We started going to Care First on Oberlin Rd. and have been pretty content. Dr. Wages is AMAZING and we love her the best out of all the vets. There was one male Dr. we didn't like that much...seemed to be going through the motions. We'll request Dr. Wages anytime we go in now. We discovered the dogs had tapeworms and they were treated immediately and are fine now. :o) Very happy with that result. Furthermore, we didn't feel like they were pushing more and more tests or medications on us. They took us through a clear timeline of what needs to happen next if what we are doing doesn't provide us with a diagnosis and/or effective treatment. Especially with Dr. Wages, we felt like it was more than just a show...that she cared about the well being of our dogs (Pocky and Pretz) and our wallet. With HB, we often times had a different doctor every visit, were confused about the next course of action, received ambiguous or inconclusive diagnostic results, felt like we were being over-charged, etc. We are glad to be done with this place, but that's just one couple's take. Good luck and cheers!JUPDATE with regards to response by Dr. Manchester:I've thought about responding to this for a while now...I've got some time now I suppose. First, thank you Dr. Manchester. It was a pleasant surprise to see your response. I appreciate your concern and apology for the events that transpired at HB, events that in the big scheme of things aren't that big of a deal now. The dogs are great and no hard feelings towards HB at all. That being said, everybody's different I suppose and I simply have an expectation that I shouldn't have to make a complaint in order to get the expected level of care (i.e. regarding diagnoses, communication of test results, prognoses and follow-up procedures). Some people don't mind doing that, but I just want my vet to "work." I'm sure HB works for a lot of people...just maybe not for us. None of my issues were with regards to any special circumstances per se, more with the mode of operation. As far as the statement above about the lab sample and it being "mystifying"...I was just repeating what I was told. It's a fact: this is how the results were reported to me. I don't know why and it sounds like it may have just been an innocent miscommunication on the vet's part, but at this point, it doesn't really matter. I think the take-away for me is that life is already topsy-turvy enough. I suppose I may have relatively high expectations that my experience at a healthcare facility be as smooth as possible to mitigate the effects of life's daily incongruities. Either way, THANK YOU again for responding and best of luck to you and HB!J Read Less
