I recently came across a Facebook post by Dr. Ellis requesting for people to go leave her "nice" reviews on Yelp because someone had left her a bad review. I will not offer a "nice" or mean review--just an HONEST one. About two years ago, I decided to try Dr. Ellis with my cats. I have used the same vet for my animals for the past 15+ years and as he is getting closer to retirement, I figured I would give a new vet a shot. At the first visit, I decided to play "dumb" and act like I knew nothing about animals (when in fact, I am heavily educated in canines and felines, I just can't perform surgery!). She advised that I should give my cats their vaccinations, although I had brought her proof that they had already been vaccinated. I questioned her about heart worms in cats--she advised that cats do not get heart worms and that I should not be concerned about it. (Yes, cats CAN get heart worms). About two weeks later, I had a little kitten dumped on my porch. I opted to go to Dr. Ellis again. Hey--we all have bad days and she's a relatively young vet. Kitten was approx. 6 weeks old and had a nasopharyngeal polyp. Dr. Ellis felt that the best method of treatment was to remove the polyp--which cost me around $600. Within a week, the polyp had returned. I took the kitten back in and Dr. Ellis proceeded to stick forceps into the ear and pull the polyp out right there in front of me with no heads up of what she was about to do (no type of numbing agent or pain med for the kitten either). I asked her what she was doing and she said "Well, if we keep ripping it out every time it comes back, maybe one day it won't come back anymore." DO WHAT?!?! I asked her how often she felt this was going to be necessary and she said every 7-10 days until the polyp did not grow back. (This was another $200 visit)Three days later I took the kitten to my normal vet and he did a lateral ear resection (a permanent fix for the issue) for about $200. So, after about $900, I finally learned my lesson. I was not impressed with her misguided information (vaccinations, feline heart worms, etc). Nor was I impressed with her milking me for money. Did she honestly expect that I would keep coming back every 7-10 days and dropping $200 each time? I think not. (But I'm sure some poor souls in Sanford do go see her often for issues that could be handled with a different form of treatment and not be "ongoing".)Would I perhaps use her in an emergency situation where time is of the essence and I can't drive to another emergency vet? Probably. Will I use her on a regular basis for my 4 dogs and 2 cats? Absolutely not. Read Less
