I continue to bring my pets to JAH for care and treatment. Several of my pets have had hard to diagnose conditions requiring finding the needle in the haystack and then the right care strategy. Dr Ward's scientific knowledge and ability to apply this knowledge as a DVM are the overriding factors as to why i continue to bring my new and old pets to this practice. They also followed up and provided continuity during 2 of my pets' oncology treatments at NCSU. My husband and I just moved to NC from Florida and we were really sad to leave Coco's doctor behind. Coco had been with her vet for years and I initially had trouble finding reliable, quality care here. A friend told me to search AAHA accredited clinics. Johnston Animal Clinic popped up in my search. We drove up from Goldsboro and it was 100% worth the drive. I have never seen a clinic like this one. Friendly staff and clean. Even the new patient form was AMAZING. It asked questions that made it so obvious this place cares about your dog/cat. They even had a "Welcome Coco" sign in the exam room!! Dr. Ward was SO friendly. He was so incredibly knowledgable and thorough. He even laughed at my bad jokes (Which says a lot!!). I am so thrilled I found this place. My only complaint is that it is not open 24/7. O my gosh! Ginger and I loved Dr. Clark and Maria! Thank you so much for the excellent care and concern you had for both of us. It was truly a remarkable vet visit which is unlike any I have experienced in the area. I was treated with respect and kindness. I wasn't forced to purchase services I didn't want. Dr. Clark really took time to check Ginger out but first got to know her. I've never seen a vet do that before. She is a loving and compassionate vet who really care about her patients. The experience was "GREAT". Cleo was checked out completely, and the Doctor explained everything to me in detail. The staff was very compassionate, and took great care to make sure Cleo stayed very comfortable during the Exam. They were able to get me in within an hour of my Mommy calling. 😁 My ear was infected and I was in a lot of pain. I was really nervous but they handled me with care and talked to me really sweet to put me more at ease. They also noticed that I have some arthritis due to my age and gave me some medicine for that too. They also recommended that I change my diet and switched me over to some Overweight management food (which I'm not happy about 😼) But Mommy said it was for my own good. I can not begin to explain the wonderful, caring and professional staff at this animal hospital. Our boxer had been a patient for 11 years and the staff is so compassionate and caring and thoughtful! A few weeks ago I decided to bring our family cat to Dr.Ward. Freddie has had a leaking tearing eye since we adopted him a few years ago and have been unsuccessful in finding anything to relieve it. Dr Ward has an amazing cat exam room with pheromones specifically to calm your cat. The music in the room was so settling to Freddie it was wonderful. Dr.Ward did a comprehensive exam on Freddie and prescribed him with some drops that worked within 10 days. Dr. Ward's exam fees are very reasonable and well worth it. The customer service is excellent. I am glad we have switched Freddie's care to Johnston Animal Hospital. Read Less

When we got Lucy at just short of 5 weeks old we were worried she was sick after having her home a few hours. I called JAH and they were able to see her immediately. Lucy had a belly full of gastrointestinal worms and weighed less than 2 pounds (dachshund breed). In just a few days she was doing fantastic. We went back today for her first shots at 9 weeks old. She is still getting treatment for worms but is doing fantastic and even weighing 3 1/2 pounds now. Dr Ward and his staff are amazing! The doctor and staff here are always wonderful to my beloved dog fleetwood. They go above and beyond during every checkup visit and answer any concerns I have regarding my dog and provide the best treatment and care for him. The staff are always so sweet and love to shower my dog with affection, which makes him so relaxed and at ease with the staff here. My baby got sick with a bad ear infection over Christmas. Dr Ward took such great care of my Harley. Dr Ward and his staff are the BEST. They even called the next day to check on him. Dr Ward and his staff are simply amazing. Took my baby Kovu in with an ear issue and they fixed him right up. They did surgery to fix the severely abscessed hematoma and called me as son as the surgery was over with update. Allowed me to visit him cause they needed to keep him over night due to drainage and call me again first thing today to tell me how good he was doing and how super Kovu is. We cannot be happier with the service we have received over the years from Dr. Ward and his staff at Johnston Animal Hospital. The caring and sensitivity of all the staff is amazing. When our pet Georgie was diagnosed with cancer, Dr. Ward worked with us to get him the best treatment possible, referring us to NC State University's Veterinary Unit. Dr. Ward and his staff kept in contact with us and helped us with the continual updates on Georgie. Unfortunately, the cancer proved to be a battle Georgie could not win and he succumbed to it in August of 2013. Dr. ward and his staff sent us a wonderful, thoughtful card of condolence plus had a tree planted in our Georgie's name. They went far beyond any other group ever have done for us in N.C.. Today, we have another cat George Clooney, who Dr. Ward and his staff are already taken a fancy too. One of his staff took a photo of Dr. Ward with George Clooney and is putting it on her Facebook page saying "Her boss and a movie star". That is typical of Johnston animal Hospital. We happened to rescue a small kitten that had been honoring our back yard as his mother was taken by the number of squirrels in the area. We had a wood pile that made a great hideout and she brought her brood to rest there while she went hunting. One of the kittens was significantly smaller and after the first week or so seemed to have difficulty keeping up with the other litter mates. After some observations we noticed that the kitten had much labored breathing and was napping a great deal more than the others. We decided to take action to intervene and set a humane trap out there hoping to not have to capture the lot. It turned out we were lucky that the tired kitten was almost asking for help and became more tolerant of our presence. The final day of capture was easily done without a trap; the kitten was in enough distress it became easy to approach and finally reach out and grasp him. We had decided to call Dr. Mike and get his advice, his schedule and counsel as to whether we could bring him in for a diagnosis and perhaps treatment. Dr. Mike was so understanding, and able to give a good outline of his approach to serving this feral kitten. When we arrived, the attendants weighed, took temperature and a quick assessment of the kittens condition. Dr. Mike then gave an examination to try to decide the overall health functions of the kitten. Upon careful observations, a quick blood test and fecal sample, Dr. Mike determined the kitten was most likely congenitally affected from birth with some complications to heart stress because of worms and perhaps lung dysfunction; like mild pneumonia. We decided to let nature take its course and not intervene too much. Dr. Mike gave the kitten a treatment for worms and a sub-Q treatment of fluids for dehydration and to allow vitamins to absorb slowly to aid in the kitten's chances and comfort. The treatment cost us a modest amount, and we were dealt with in such a honest and straight forward manner, We felt the compassion from Dr. Mike. He seemed really touched by the kittens predicament and knew we were touched by the situation enough to bring the kitten to him. The outcome of the kitten? We took him home, let him stay in the house out of the elements, and he became our friend for about two weeks. During that time, he helped us rescue his litter mates by allowing them to see us interact with him. He would walk right though the cage bars to greet them after we had captured them; he was quite smaller than they. It was as though he was really sensing their anxiety and our desire to help them along. After the second week he became increasingly stressed and finally lie down next to his brother to pass. We really appreciated the counsel, assistance and help from Dr. Mike and the Johnston Animal Hospital staff. They were very caring and helpful to aid us in our desire to help this small creature that we were blessed and honored to know. We would recommend the Johnston Animal Hospital for any of the animals you care for. These folks are truly honorable and compassionate people. We still visit Johnston Animal Hospital and Dr. Mike currently cares for the brother of the kitten that passed away. Read Less
