Our 2 English Bull Dogs needed Emergency Visits to see a vet, we showed up at 9:20 No Appointment's No prior contact since we are not originally from here. We were happily greeted given paper work and squeezed in to busy rotation.The Vet was professional knowledgeable and gave both my babies the check ups they both needed the staff was friendly and proficient at every interaction.We will definitely be using this group as our veterinarian's in Southport plus they were a Recommendation to us by another EnglishBull Dog Mommy as well. I have never written a bad word about a veterinary hospital before, so I find doing so very disheartening. I have been rescuing animals for over 30 yrs. In that time you can imagine I have worked with Vets a lot. I want to say it makes it even harder for me to write this because I really really liked Dr. Lyne, you can tell he is a good vet. I was sent to this vet from their sister hospital in Supply, since they didn't carry Bravacto. While their I had shots done on 2 dogs. Killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Big mistake... I was charged 36 x 2 for parasite tests I didn't ask for or was even told was happening. Every single shot was substantially higher than what I paid at the sister hospital a week prior on my 3rd dog. Office visit was 10 higher at $55, I was shocked at the $45 visit at Vet A. it had been the Highest office visit I have ever seen. The Bravacto was $13 higher than I have ever paid before anywhere. SMH Before I saw the bill I inquired about having a dental done on 2 dogs, they said the price was $275 I silently said never mind knowing X 2 dogs it was $150 cheaper to do it at the sister vet. Then I was handed the bill, I bit my tongue and paid the $392. Today I was back for a recheck of my dogs ear. Dr. said it looks good, we'll just add a couple drops to make sure...Sounds great, Then says I'll see you in a week. I thought that odd since he just said it looks good. Whatever, Get up front and she says $56.....What this was a re-check yeah but he got medicine....$56 for drops in his ear??? The other girl peaks over and whispers go ahead and take the office off. You charged a office visit for a recheck??? Yes we'll take the $30 dollars off though. So $26 for two drops of liquid gold, I had at home in the cabinet and paid only $32.50 for the whole damn tube. In thirty plus years rescuing animals I have never once been charged for a recheck, any meds of course, but not one damn time for a recheck and I have lived in 6 different states and a few big cities where prices can get up there. Technically I still haven't paid for a recheck But this place is clearly out to make a quick buck, People price around and ask questions first, this place is setting unnecessary appointments and is clearly after phone calls to other area vets this afternoon charging crazy high fees. I spent a minimum of $150 more than I would of paid if had vet A had just sold Bravacto, and if I had asked about prices instead of amusing a sister hospital would be about the same. Do your homework people there are a lot of good vets out there who don't do this people. This is the reason people can't afford to rescue animals anymore, it''s all about the almighty dollar now days. Read Less

Yesterday I had a very bad experience at Southport Animal Hospital yesterday.  My puppy, Peaches was scratching like crazy and her stomach continually contracted.  She was seen by Dr. Hiram Lyne who looked at her and said she had Bronchitis.  He didn't listen to her lungs. He did no exam though I was charged for an exam.  He recommended a shot of antibiotics with steroids which he gave.  I was also given an antibiotic medication for the week.I asked about the scratching and he told me to purchase flea meds - I said she doesn't have fleas. He combed her hair and said she didn't have fleas, but get flea meds anyway and also the shot should help the itching.I asked about what to feed Peaches and what to give her for chewing - he was very flip about his answers and frankly seemed anxious for me to leave.The puppy threw up in the car on the way home and became listless and very hot with fever. I called the vet back and he was gone. But, the receptionist there was AWESOME and she called Oak Island Vet Hospital and faxed my information over there.  I took  Peaches to OIVH where she was thoroughly examined and the vet said she had an upper respiratory infection but it had not gotten to her lower lungs. Peaches had had a bad reaction to the shot.  She was hydrated with electrolytes and given anti nausea medication.  And was told exactly what to feed her and ideas to help the scratching and chewing.Today she is doing just fine.I would not recommend Southport Animal Hospital to anyone. While I've never visited this "hospital", I know enough to give it a low rating. The owner and head vet at this clinic is a politician first and a veterinarian second. I have seen so many animals come out of here with sub-par medicine and inappropriately diagnosed and treated animals. The vet also made sure to help puppy mills continue via his vote during a recent attempt to pass a law to ban puppy mills. I really wish there was a way to regulate animal hospitals. Read Less

The Dr. Did not do unnecessary tests and treatments just for us to have to put our beloved dog down. They where very compassionate. Ibwas very impressed with the staff and Dr. And there rates are extremely reasonable. Read Less

Please don't use this vet He supports puppy mills and was critical in having a bill that would have made it a crime to operate a puppy mill remain unpassed in the legislature. He is a disgrace to his profession and has little concern for animals in this area. Choose someone else that is caring to animals and has a good reputation as an advocate for them Read Less

Southport Animal Hospital is wonderful. Their entire staff is kind and caring. Dr. Lyne spent a lot of time with us and our kitty Lenore. He explained the diagnosis thoroughly and eased our fears. For the past 4 yrs we have used Southport Animal Hospital for our dogs, love Dr. Rabon and all the staff, and had an opportunity to meet Dr. Lyne last week with a sick dog. All 3 sick, and he saw one, and got all 3 on the correct meds to stop diarrhea, vomiting with great success. By far the best service in town, by the entire staff ,for our furry babies. Read Less

If I could give 10 stars I would! 5 stars doesn't seem like enough to describe our experience! We are visiting Oak Island for the week and our 5 month old golden puppy has been battling a skin infection for a few weeks. It had cleared up, but the beach flared it back up! We called and they fit us in quickly! We met with Dr. Lyne & he was absolutely amazing. He was so personal, thorough with his exam, and explanation of why he was recommending what he was. I am proud to report that only 24 hours later his skin looks 70% better! So so soooo happy! So thankful for Dr. Lyne & the rest of the staff that made our visit so enjoyable! When someone is in need they get us in there as soon as possible. They are caring, smart, and know how to handle even the most uncomfortable animal situations. My sister and I brought her dog in who had an ivemectin poisoning. We had him at an emergency hospital in Wilmington and had to bring him home because it was just too expensive to continue care. So we took him to this location and much to our delight, he showed us how to care for him and nurse him back to health. The dog recovered in 4 days. His price was reasonable. He certainly cares about the animal and survival and not how he can advantage of people trying to take care of their animals.Read Less

We recently moved to the area and one of our cats got very congested. I decided to take her to Southport Animal Hospital and I'm thrilled that I chose them! Dr. Roben and the staff were so kind. I was very pleased with the amount of the bill as it was much lower than I anticipated. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they charged me $20 less than my previous vet in Florida charged me for the same medication. Dr. Roben did not try to push for any tests or try to push any products or services on me like most other vet offices do. I will definitely continue to use them for my furry kids' medical needs. We brought our yellow lab with us for the holiday weekend. After swimming in the ocean and playing on the beach for a couple hours, our dog became sick. I called this vet clinic to see if they could see our dog. They said to bring her in right away. The staff was very friendly and we only had a 10 min wait to see the doc. He was very good with our lab. We were sent on our way about 15 min later with antibiotics, the after-hours number, and a happier dog. By the next day she was back to her old self. We are so thankful to the clinic for being so good to us and our dog, and saving our weekend trip. Very clean facility, great staff, would recommend to anyone! Read Less
