I used this office for 35 years, before it was WAH. It used to be Dr. Tapley. When they started trying to make us pay twice a year for vaccines that only are given once a year at other vets, that's when I knew it was time to change. This office has very caring vets and I have never had a problem with quality of care. I have been made to feel guilty when a pet was killed by another dog in our absence. They did not think I should have had my dog outside when I wasn't home, contained in the yard. Instead of sympathy I got the guilty trip. I have since moved to Lancaster. Much more of a "country" vet office.

We have been going to see Dr Hayes at this practice with our, now 3, dogs since moving to the area from Winston Salem. I have never been to a vet who spent so much time making sure you were comfortable and felt like part of the process. You are always seen quickly, never rushed, and every decision is made together, with you, and thoroughly explained and weighed-out. The office is neat, clean, welcoming and not scary at all-- feels like home. Say 'hello to Tom the therapy cat who likes to hang out at reception. He is good for the soul and loves humans, dogs and other felines.

I have never been to a vet who spent so much time making sure you were comfortable and felt like part of the process. I cannot say enough great things about the Waxhaw animal hospital and its staff at the front desk along with the doctors and technicians that take care of my five yes I said five dogs that come here.
Well not the cheapest place you can go to get animal care I definitely feel that they are the most caring and knowledgeable about animal medicine that there is in the area.
As we all love our pets so deeply just like our children having a place that you can trust and rely on is key the staff here never makes me feel rushed or like I am not important and that is a plus for me and all of my fur babies.
We love the staff at the Waxhaw Animal Hospital.

My cat got in a fight with another animal and had to have surgery. I took him to Waxhaw Animal Hospital in a cat crate and they DID NOT lock the the door on it when my mother pick him up. That afternoon she called me frantically saying the door swung open and the cat escape into the Woods. I had to drive back from Raleigh on the phone the whole time with her and the people inside the vets office. Initially they gave me it's not our problem until I threatened legal action only then did they have someone out to help look and call animal control.
When I arrive the people from inside the vets office had gave up leaving the search to my mother/Animal Control. We stayed out there till dark with no sign of him. That night I drove back up around midnight and placed a can of cat food out there in case he got hungry.
The following day I went out there again calling and looking for him with no help whatsoever from the vets office. I ended up getting lucky around midnight the second day when I placed another can of cat food out, he came limping out of the woods with one of his stitches busted and drain tube hanging out. I picked him up and put him in his carrier, the same one he was dropped off in and the door locked with no problem.
I took him to Faulkners in Lancaster the following morning to have him check out and they had to repair a small amount of damage that he done in the Woods.

I took my cat to be seen for a bladder infection. They stated it was best to put him down. My daughter was screaming crying. They stated the cat could be cremated and picked up in a week. I had the cat cremated. I went in a week later and they stated it wasn't back yet. I called today, 3/27 and the receptionist stated i paid for "Cremation NO RETURN", meaning i would not get the ashes they told my 11 year old we would receive. No remorse for this at all. All i got was "Im sorry. This is what you paid for on the receipt....so"
I will not be going back to this place. Did not offer a refund on their mistake. No "Im sorry this happened". NOTHING!
This was a family member that i planned on keeping in our home, in a vase, in my daughters room. Not now. Thanks for nothing.

I awoke to a problem with my dog, she was listless, she did not want to move, she would not eat, drink or use the bathroom. I gave her time to cuddle and to help discern here problem, but after no change and a discussion with the breeder, I took her to our vets, that are supposed to be open, but they were closed. I contacted Waxhaw Animal Hospital and told them the situation, they said bring her in, even though they would have already been closed. Dr. Burtis and the technician took their time with her (and me), diagnosed the situation (a strained lumbar area), treated her with various therapies and we left and my dog immediately used the bathroom and she was much improved as a result! They earned themselves a client and I will sing their praises to all the folks we know that have these precious animals in their care. I never write reviews, but needed to do it now, considering the care we received. If only other businesses would see the value in caring for others, even when it is highly inconvenient! WELL DONE, you helped my precious Rosie and you helped me! I will not forget it.

Not happy at all. We have a had our pets with Waxhaw Animal Hospital for about a year. The veterinarians are great, but the office as a whole is terrible. We have had several incidences with office staff and boarding where phone calls are never returned. We had an emergent situation with our chocolate lab and called 3 times and left 3 message in one day and never received a call back. We had to seek treatment elsewhere, which is crazy because they are our vet!!! Also, they require that you bring your pets in every 6 months for visits, which is crazy. I don't even take my children to the doctor that much. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and I don't have the time, energy or money to haul them into the vet every 6 months. We are switching veterinarians.

So frustrated with this clinic! They rarely if ever return phone calls and if they do its at the end of the day and too late to act on if you're trying to fill a prescription. You can count on waiting a minimum of 30 minutes to get back to a room for your appointment. They are never on time. Unbelievable!, How much the staff members could care less about the patient/owners circumstances regarding emergent needs. Rimadyl Waxhaw Animal - $104.00. Rimadyl Petmeds - $85. Who wouldn't switch to a provider this much less that overnight delivers to your door? They held my animals treatment/prescription hostage in order to turn a nice profit on drugs. Greedy crooks, the owners of this place. They were unwilling to fax a prescription toll free to Petmeds. Unable to take a phone call from pet meds. Unwilling to email the prescription to me so that I could forward to Petmeds. And unwilling to call me themselves to discuss. My only option was to load my four young children into the van and truck 25/30 minutes up Providence road at rush hour to either pay the more expensive price or pick up my hand written prescription. They offered no price match option and were completely unwilling to work with me or sympathize with my needs or my arthritic 12 year old Golden retriever, who is a sweetheart by the way and deserves none of this. #SWITCHINGCLINICS. What's unfortunate is the physicians have really been very kind to my pet. They have been quite good. But the rest of the business, or lack there of as it relates, to customer service is too much and has overwhelmed the pros with way too many cons for me to stay with this clinic.

My Significant Other and I are new to Waxhaw and my S.O. took his dog to Providence South for the annual checkup and had a great experience. Shortly after that we needed to board him and made a great mistake using Waxhaw Animal Hospital for boarding. The reason we chose them for boarding was because they have Sunday pickup, which Providence South did not offer. In the initial phone inquiry with Waxhaw Animal Hospital, it was explained that bordatella was required every 6 months and pets must be treated for fleas & ticks. My S.O. explained that the dog just had his shots at his annual exam & that he is treated monthly for fleas & ticks. We booked for one night & were quoted one night for around $18. Everything was good to go.We both scratched our heads on the bordatella every 6 months due to the fact that none of our vets have never required or suggested every 6 Mos... usually once a year is sufficient.Upon picking up the dog, my S.O. was given a $60 invoice. When asked why the $60, he was told it was for 2 days/1 night boarding plus a pill for flea & ticks. He explained that we were quoted $18 for one night and told them that the flea & tick question was discussed on the initial phone call and that they were told at that time that the dog had just been treated at home 2 weeks ago with his flea & tick prevention treatment.He voiced his concern about the dog being treated so soon after being treated at home, but was told that they are a "tick & flea" free facility so they treat all animals, and that there was no problem treating him again so soon. This is concerning as the dog is a small dog, and we worried about the toxicity of the repeat treatment for such a small animal. Based on this experience, neither of us will consider using Waxhaw Animal Hospital for any reason for either of our pets.BTW, the "review" posted by Joel P is not helpful or useful since he was "on a tour" of the facility and didn't actually use their services.

I had used this vet for over 12 years. BUT...I Took our rescue dog in for her spaying. The county had/has a contract to spay/neuter dogs for the them for which WAH is paid by the county. They tried to...
I had used this vet for over 12 years. BUT...I Took our rescue dog in for her spaying. The county had/has a contract to spay/neuter dogs for the them for which WAH is paid by the county. They tried to charge me an EXTRA $150 for it. Included in the costs were the collar, over $50 in "pain meds", a catheter, and something dealing with the anesthesia. After complaining, they decided that I would ONLY Have to pay an additional $51 for pain meds. Needless to say, I took my dog back and am going somewhere else! Oh, yes...they also failed to mention that I should not feed or water my dog the evening before or morning of the surgery. They also wanted a signature allowing them to perform heroic measures if something happened to my dog during surgery. Well, if I had fed and/or watered her, that would have been a necessity. They never asked if she had had food or water, either.

I used this office for 35 years, before it was WAH. It used to be Dr. Tapley. When they started trying to make us pay twice a year for vaccines that only are given once a year at other vets, that's when I knew it was time to change. This office has very caring vets and I have never had a problem with quality of care. I have been made to feel guilty when a pet was killed by another dog in our absence. They did not think I should have had my dog outside when I wasn't home, contained in the yard. Instead of sympathy I got the guilty trip. I have since moved to Lancaster. Much more of a "country" vet office.

We have been going to see Dr Hayes at this practice with our, now 3, dogs since moving to the area from Winston Salem. I have never been to a vet who spent so much time making sure you were comfortable and felt like part of the process. You are always seen quickly, never rushed, and every decision is made together, with you, and thoroughly explained and weighed-out. The office is neat, clean, welcoming and not scary at all-- feels like home. Say 'hello to Tom the therapy cat who likes to hang out at reception. He is good for the soul and loves humans, dogs and other felines.

I cannot say enough great things about the Waxhaw animal hospital and its staff at the front desk along with the doctors and technicians that take care of my five yes I said five dogs that come here.
Well not the cheapest place you can go to get animal care I definitely feel that they are the most caring and knowledgeable about animal medicine that there is in the area.
As we all love our pets so deeply just like our children having a place that you can trust and rely on is key the staff here never makes me feel rushed or like I am not important and that is a plus for me and all of my fur babies.
We love the staff at the Waxhaw Animal Hospital.

My cat got in a fight with another animal and had to have surgery. I took him to Waxhaw Animal Hospital in a cat crate and they DID NOT lock the the door on it when my mother pick him up. That afternoon she called me frantically saying the door swung open and the cat escape into the Woods. I had to drive back from Raleigh on the phone the whole time with her and the people inside the vets office. Initially they gave me it's not our problem until I threatened legal action only then did they have someone out to help look and call animal control.
When I arrive the people from inside the vets office had gave up leaving the search to my mother/Animal Control. We stayed out there till dark with no sign of him. That night I drove back up around midnight and placed a can of cat food out there in case he got hungry.
The following day I went out there again calling and looking for him with no help whatsoever from the vets office. I ended up getting lucky around midnight the second day when I placed another can of cat food out, he came limping out of the woods with one of his stitches busted and drain tube hanging out. I picked him up and put him in his carrier, the same one he was dropped off in and the door locked with no problem.
I took him to Faulkners in Lancaster the following morning to have him check out and they had to repair a small amount of damage that he done in the Woods.

I took my cat to be seen for a bladder infection. They stated it was best to put him down. My daughter was screaming crying. They stated the cat could be cremated and picked up in a week. I had the cat cremated. I went in a week later and they stated it wasn't back yet. I called today, 3/27 and the receptionist stated i paid for "Cremation NO RETURN", meaning i would not get the ashes they told my 11 year old we would receive. No remorse for this at all. All i got was "Im sorry. This is what you paid for on the receipt....so"
I will not be going back to this place. Did not offer a refund on their mistake. No "Im sorry this happened". NOTHING!
This was a family member that i planned on keeping in our home, in a vase, in my daughters room. Not now. Thanks for nothing.

I awoke to a problem with my dog, she was listless, she did not want to move, she would not eat, drink or use the bathroom. I gave her time to cuddle and to help discern here problem, but after no change and a discussion with the breeder, I took her to our vets, that are supposed to be open, but they were closed. I contacted Waxhaw Animal Hospital and told them the situation, they said bring her in, even though they would have already been closed. Dr. Burtis and the technician took their time with her (and me), diagnosed the situation (a strained lumbar area), treated her with various therapies and we left and my dog immediately used the bathroom and she was much improved as a result! They earned themselves a client and I will sing their praises to all the folks we know that have these precious animals in their care. I never write reviews, but needed to do it now, considering the care we received. If only other businesses would see the value in caring for others, even when it is highly inconvenient! WELL DONE, you helped my precious Rosie and you helped me! I will not forget it.

Not happy at all. We have a had our pets with Waxhaw Animal Hospital for about a year. The veterinarians are great, but the office as a whole is terrible. We have had several incidences with office staff and boarding where phone calls are never returned. We had an emergent situation with our chocolate lab and called 3 times and left 3 message in one day and never received a call back. We had to seek treatment elsewhere, which is crazy because they are our vet!!! Also, they require that you bring your pets in every 6 months for visits, which is crazy. I don't even take my children to the doctor that much. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and I don't have the time, energy or money to haul them into the vet every 6 months. We are switching veterinarians.

So frustrated with this clinic! They rarely if ever return phone calls and if they do its at the end of the day and too late to act on if you're trying to fill a prescription. You can count on waiting a minimum of 30 minutes to get back to a room for your appointment. They are never on time. Unbelievable!, How much the staff members could care less about the patient/owners circumstances regarding emergent needs. Rimadyl Waxhaw Animal - $104.00. Rimadyl Petmeds - $85. Who wouldn't switch to a provider this much less that overnight delivers to your door? They held my animals treatment/prescription hostage in order to turn a nice profit on drugs. Greedy crooks, the owners of this place. They were unwilling to fax a prescription toll free to Petmeds. Unable to take a phone call from pet meds. Unwilling to email the prescription to me so that I could forward to Petmeds. And unwilling to call me themselves to discuss. My only option was to load my four young children into the van and truck 25/30 minutes up Providence road at rush hour to either pay the more expensive price or pick up my hand written prescription. They offered no price match option and were completely unwilling to work with me or sympathize with my needs or my arthritic 12 year old Golden retriever, who is a sweetheart by the way and deserves none of this. #SWITCHINGCLINICS. What's unfortunate is the physicians have really been very kind to my pet. They have been quite good. But the rest of the business, or lack there of as it relates, to customer service is too much and has overwhelmed the pros with way too many cons for me to stay with this clinic.

My Significant Other and I are new to Waxhaw and my S.O. took his dog to Providence South for the annual checkup and had a great experience. Shortly after that we needed to board him and made a great mistake using Waxhaw Animal Hospital for boarding. The reason we chose them for boarding was because they have Sunday pickup, which Providence South did not offer. In the initial phone inquiry with Waxhaw Animal Hospital, it was explained that bordatella was required every 6 months and pets must be treated for fleas & ticks. My S.O. explained that the dog just had his shots at his annual exam & that he is treated monthly for fleas & ticks. We booked for one night & were quoted one night for around $18. Everything was good to go.We both scratched our heads on the bordatella every 6 months due to the fact that none of our vets have never required or suggested every 6 Mos... usually once a year is sufficient.Upon picking up the dog, my S.O. was given a $60 invoice. When asked why the $60, he was told it was for 2 days/1 night boarding plus a pill for flea & ticks. He explained that we were quoted $18 for one night and told them that the flea & tick question was discussed on the initial phone call and that they were told at that time that the dog had just been treated at home 2 weeks ago with his flea & tick prevention treatment.He voiced his concern about the dog being treated so soon after being treated at home, but was told that they are a "tick & flea" free facility so they treat all animals, and that there was no problem treating him again so soon. This is concerning as the dog is a small dog, and we worried about the toxicity of the repeat treatment for such a small animal. Based on this experience, neither of us will consider using Waxhaw Animal Hospital for any reason for either of our pets.BTW, the "review" posted by Joel P is not helpful or useful since he was "on a tour" of the facility and didn't actually use their services.

I had used this vet for over 12 years. BUT...I Took our rescue dog in for her spaying. The county had/has a contract to spay/neuter dogs for the them for which WAH is paid by the county. They tried to charge me an EXTRA $150 for it. Included in the costs were the collar, over $50 in "pain meds", a catheter, and something dealing with the anesthesia. After complaining, they decided that I would ONLY Have to pay an additional $51 for pain meds. Needless to say, I took my dog back and am going somewhere else! Oh, yes...they also failed to mention that I should not feed or water my dog the evening before or morning of the surgery. They also wanted a signature allowing them to perform heroic measures if something happened to my dog during surgery. Well, if I had fed and/or watered her, that would have been a necessity. They never asked if she had had food or water, either.
