Granted this happened in 2011 but I must add to the negative reviews. I considered this to be "my vet" as I had brought our cat there a couple of times. Suddenly she had stopped eating and drinking, I called explaining our cats condition.  I stated I get off work close to their closing time and by the time I go home to get her, I might be 5 minutes late.  I pleaded, "would you please wait?" If I could give them a less than 1 star review I would two years ago after taking hundreds of rescue animals to them for low-cost for somebody I was working with and taking my own personal 10 animals to them having kept the same place and given them thousands of dollars I took my cat to them who seem to be sick but not so sick she was going to die and at that time they gave her fluids and gave her some sort of pain medicine I later found my cat dead on the floor and come to find out the pain medicine was a liquid type of synthetic morphine why they needed to give my animal that was in sane when I called them hysterical the next morning and upset and said I wasn't gonna pay for the rest of the visit they pretty much banned me as I tried Dog that has always been seen and got his rabies vaccine to them this past Friday they refused to treat the dog because of what they did to my cat two years ago I think that sorry empathetic to make my dog suffer not getting rabies because of something that they refuse to egg knowledge they did to make the animal suffer is in sane they could've simply administer the vaccine and been done to even try to make up for anything they've done to me whatsoever and then to call me and say I don't know if you remember I remember very well this cat was a part of our family for nine years I am devastated that they would even act this way I went to the clinic at pet smart and they were amazing and just as cheap Read Less

Today we had an appointment to get our rescue puppy neutered.  The drop off time was 8 am and my wife was told he would be ready to go at 3pm.  Like most surgeries he was restricted to eating and drinking after midnight the night prior to the surgery.  At 230pm my wife called to check to see how things were going and to see if he would be ready as she was told.  The woman at the front desk said he had not yet been seen and the doctor was about to get to him around 3 and he was actually ready to be picked up at 5pm.  My 7 month old puppy had not eaten or drank anything in over 17 hours......because he had an 8am appointment for surgery but was not seen until 3pm.  When my wife asked why he was seen so late she was told that the doctor had other appointments and got to the neuterings as he could, but they have certain days that you can schedule for neutering.  I'm not sure how many people have had a dog neutered or spayed or maybe had surgery yourself but usually there is some type of recovery time before you're cleared to go home. You may not be 100% with it but you're some form of awake.  Well I'm writing this review over 2 hours after picking him up and he's still unconscious. Can barely open his eyes and can barely drink anything. My wife was essentially handed a sedated dog.   Seems professional.   The first time we ever came here we made an appointment and were seen 30mins after our scheduled time after we spoke to the front desk.  I chalked it up to them being very busy and while it was frustrating let it go.  Every interaction since then his been nothing short of painful.  Every time we call to refill a prescription we are put on hold and then essentially forgotten about.  We have been hung up while being on hold and regularly sit on hold for 15mins.  I've sat on hold for a long time but usually the people working have some type of courtesy to check back in and say," hey you're still going to be sitting on hold but we haven't forgotten about you."  The interaction today was 100% unacceptable and unprofessional we will no longer be taking any of our 4 dogs here and I urge everyone else to think twice before you take your pets here.  They are just a number to these people and they could care less, that was our experience Read Less

One year ago my very sick dog was taken to the Country Vet as a walk in patient. He had been a patient with Highsmith Animal Hospital for 13 years and after months of treatments, $5000, they said I had to euthanize my dog. I went to the Country vet for a second opinion, Dr Ellis asked me to wait and give him today till 5:30 to decide if he could save my dogs life. Well one year later Babe is running playing and alive. We've been with A Country Vet for 8+ years, passing many vets along our 30 minute route there.They do NOT push unnecessary meds or vaccinations. Each recommendation clearly and precisely show the cost so there are no surprises at the end.With 4 dogs, it is nice to get a discount for multiple pets.Unlike many other prices, meds are not inflated and if they know you can get them cheaper someplace else, they will tell you.There may be a wait at times, but generally due to unexpected emergencies which we have been in that position numerous times and ate understanding when it happens. Their walk-in slots fill up fast which can be a problem at other places as well.Our lab made it to 15 1/2 years old which was years beyond what we thought we'd get because of health issues along the way.We are sure we would have lost 2 of our babies (one due to the ER vet not using common protocol) if it weren't for ACV.They've always treated us and our pets with compassion, love, professionalism and respect. Now, just like it can be anywhere, the few times there was an issue, we addressed it and ACV acknowledged the problem and solved it well.When no other vet could find an issue for one of ours suffering from seizures - ACV did - WITHOUT medication.Their fees are reasonable and we are thankful for this practice, all they do for our community and throughout the world. The vet techs are nice, but the front desk girls aren't very nice....and they gave my puppy his shots quickly, they don't take you back to see what's happening. I find that strange but I guess...the part I strongly dislike is their immediate dismissal. They don't watch your animal for reactions you're just immediately turned to pay and leave. Any animal can have a reaction to even the most simple vaccine so 10 minutes is usually what I waited at any other vet I've gone to, to be sure your animal doesn't have one. I switched to A Country Vet a few years ago because my animals saw Dr. Wilson at another practice a long time ago. Since I have switched, I have been pleased with EVERYTHING - no complaints! They work with you to find an affordable way to care for your animals. I recently had to put my 14-year old German Shepherd to sleep and the card they sent with a personal note from each employee and my dog's paw print meant more than anything. Very open atmosphere. Everyone loves animals who works here as well. We went in as a walk in for shots and worm test and I thought we would be there for at least an hour. Been going for a couple years now and have very much enjoyed my expierence with them. Though they are a busy clinic, it's not hard to get an appointment within a reasonable time frame. They are always friendly and helpful. They have given me discounts and free services a few times as well. The best example is when they discovered my dog had 2 teeth that needed to be pulled but when they got him under, found he actually needed 6 teeth pulled. What a wonderful experience! My dog is a feisty chihuahua and he doesn't like ANYONE messing with him. A trip to the vet with him, is like pulling eye teeth from an alligator. I was impressed with how the whole visit was handled from beginning to end; with the staff and Dr. Wilson. They took such great care of Paco and were very reasonably priced. At a time when other vet treated us and our babies like an ATM, A Country Veterinarian was there for us... Dr. Odom was very efficient and nice and took the time to explain everything to me so that we weren't confused or paying for stuff that we didn't know about. After our first visit as a walk in there, we have transferred our baby's files from their other vet so they can permanently be seen at A Country Veterinarian. I NEVER write reviews, but that's how irritated I am. I've never had great experiences here, but I thought I was just being picky. I decided to email them and express my concerns regarding their rude staff and my last visit and they got back to me 2 days later (which is okay, I understand they're busy) by Richie and told me he didn't open my email because it wasn't flagged as important, but my subject line should've been enough for someone to open it right away. Anyways, I explained my situation and it seemed as though they just sent me what seemed like an automated email by Dan Wilson about how they've been blessed with many clients and blah, blah, blah. As a member of the customer service industry, I feel that this is something that should be handled better. I'm very upset because this isn't just my dog, she's family and if this was a child seeing a doctor, it would be handled differently. I don't feel like I am a valued client which is crazy considering I would spend crazy amounts of money to make sure my dog is well-taken care of. I expected a manager or owner to care and give me a call, but that's obviously not going to happen. I have a pretty irate co-worker getting ready to complain about them also. Please do not use this place. We took our dog there 4 times in one month and they could not figure out what was wrong with her. They took X-rays that other vets could not read. 3 different doctors and not one of them listened to her chest to discover that she had fluid. Not one felt her lymph nodes that were swollen. Not one worried about the weight she had lost in such a short time. Not one considered all of her symptoms to try to correctly diagnose her. These people do not need to be trusted. Read Less

Excellent people! Very large office yet intimate service with much compassion and care. My boys got neutered there and I had usually just taken my animals to the humane society. This procedure included after surgery pain relief and I felt horrible because it had never occurred to me that they would need it. I couldn't stop thinking about the poor cats I watched recover without pain relief. Excellent care. I am new in town and was excited to get recommendations to a clinic that everyone loved...until I noticed on their website that they provide a service to declaw cats. Declawing is amputation at the first "knuckle" and can result in a lifetime of pain and spinal complaints. Until they stop offering this service, I cannot recommend them. Read Less

Great experience! I have a 12 year old Coonhound/Shellie mix who was having some inner ear problems and was having reverse sneezes. I took him in as a walk-in patient as soon as they opened and he got seen quickly and I felt like he was in good hands. Dr. Rachael was wonderful with him and explained to me everything that was going on and was very through with him. The prices were reasonable but you can save $15 by making an appointment (walk-ins are $60). I know in the past people have complained about the wait but now they have a board that they put your pets name on and you can see how long the wait will be. They also stop taking walk-ins after a certain time to ensure that you and your pet are not standing around forever. I will definitely be returning here. Read Less

Love, love, love A Country Vet! The doctors, their staff and their facilities are all wonderful! These folks are caring, compassionate, helpful, accommodating and FRIENDLY. I cannot believe I have found a vet and clinic for my pets like this in Wilmington and, before moving to Wilmington, I actually drove an hour & 1/2 to take to my pets to a vet in the country, so ACV had a high bar to meet from the start. The facility is clean and welcoming, vintage-y and fun. Even the waiting room is entertaining and fun. And there's a cute, clean fenced-in grassy area (tree & doggy bags included) out front for a quick pit-stop for your pets. I have never felt like they were trying to take advantage financially - in the least. I have found them to be very, very fair with their fees and that is so appreciated. Told to bring animals in for a update on medical to approve the flea and tick medicine I ordered online. So I brought them for a scheduled appointment. A hour wait later, physical and another renewal rabies shot they missed and had to ask about. I took them home and was denied flea and heartworm by them.!? No offer to correct or help. No professionalism, no regret, just oh well and can we transfer your records some where else. Been going there six years. Thanks for lying to me and wasting my time. We have had our cat out there 3 months in a row Dec. 2016, Jan. 2017 and again in Feb.2017. None of the vets that were seen had a clue what to do. My cat was losing hair, weight and very lethargic.  My sister who has no medical training took her there in Dec and Jan. I am an RN and was away for the whole month of January taking care of a sick family member. When I returned home I was shocked to see the shape the cat was in. I returned with her in Feb. as a walk-in and had to tell them what to do to get to the problem. I had them do blood work and needless to say she probably has CA. Not happy!!! Today I experienced the worst treatment at this vet office. My daughter's dog was neutered here 3 months ago and now the incision has opened but is not draining. She has a large, tender lump to the right of the incision. So much for sterile technique. I called at 2p and was told that the doctor wants to know if I could come at 2:30 or 3p. I arrived at 2:15p. The blond girl told me I was second in line for walk ins. Two hours later my daughter called and said she needed my 3 year old granddaughter's car seat in order to take my 10 year old granddaughter to dance. I discussed the situation with the blond girl who told me that I was now fourth or fifth in line and that it would be about an hour or more before my dog would be called. I questioned why I was now fourth or fifth in line and she offered a rambling, rather incoherent excuse about three dogs that came in simultaneously that ALL took precedence over my daughter's dog. Well, I rushed the car seat home and got back to the office in 30 minutes. Then, I was told that we had been called. I let th3 dark-haired woman know that I had informed the blond girl that I would be gone for 30 minutes. This dark haired woman said she would check on it. Twenty minutes later I began to think about any further association with this office: antibiotics, possible incision and drainage, etc. Furthermore, no one had approached me about whether my dog would be seen. I decided that I would take the dog to Kind Care in Little River, SC where my dogs' treatment have always been excellent. I also noticed during my lengthy stay customers waiting 20 minutes to pay since there was one person checking people out and people receiving test results at check out. Some customers seemed to receive special treatment when they were greeted enthusiastically and their dogs were offered treats. This was not the same for all dogs. Professionalism and communication were sorely lacking. I would look around for somewhere else here in the Wilmington area. Read Less

Moved to the area from VA and my Bulldog immediately started having issues. We saw Dr. Ellis and he is absolutely the BEST!!! Been there 2 times now and he has been a blessing. My dog is feeling so much better. Dr. Ellis listened to what was going on and took his time and was extremely thorough in his examination of Axle. We have received great care from Dr. Ellis and the entire staff and will not hesitate to take my baby back to see Dr. Ellis the next time we need Vet care. Read Less

I found them as a referral from a co-worker. I rescued a small dog that wasn't in the best of shape. They where very supportive. I think there was a week I was sitting there waiting for the Dr. twice. They answered my 100's of questions lol. They're good peeps. I feel like I just took my 12 week old puppy to a really bad butcher shop. I feel like the worst dog parent on the planet for taking my pup A Country Vet to get spayed. We adopted the puppy and the appointment was made through the adoption rescue. My poor lil pup had a rather large, jagged wound that still had a piece of flesh hanging out. I had to take my puppy to our usual vet 1.5 days after the procedure. After having talked to our wonder vet I learned that female puppies should never be spayed so young. This place may save you a dollar but it is a whack and hack factory. If you truly love your pet, dont go there.Read Less

Brought my yellow lab in for a walk-in visit (note we were waiting longer since we didn't have an appointment) the staff did their best to make sure she was seen and it didn't feel as though they were rushing when we got her in the back. One of the first vets I've taken my dog to where I felt like they were truly concerned about him. I have been 5 or 6 times and have seen two different vets during my time as a customer and both have been wonderful. It does get busy and sometimes you have to wait for a few minutes but no different then when I go to the doctor. My mother has been taking her dog here for a few years. After a strange turn in events we received a call from Animal control stating that they had our dog that had been taken from us three years ago. We picked up our dog who was underweight, covered in fleas with open wounds and rotted teeth. Our first stop was the vet for evaluation. We were a walk-in and they had multiple emergencies come in while we waited therefore it was a few hours before we were even seen. Overtime my mother and I became very frustrated with the wait time however when we were finally taken back into an exam room the staff was very through and apologetic. As a customer I am not always patient and we waited for a very long time but I really respect how kind and attentive the staff was to my family during our time of need. We brought our dog back the next day because I thought I found a tumor the vet missed. Again the staff was very patient, kind and through. They also did not charge us for a follow-up exam. Overall I am very happy with the service we received and I understand why my mother brings her dog here for routine care. My personal tip is to make an appointment. WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could give this place NO stars. I made an appointment....called ahead of time to let them know I was 5 minutes late and that I was coming but STILL waited over an HOUR AND A HALF!!!! But that is not even the worst part. My poor pug became VERY ill after being prescribed Vectra by their vet. The vet originally suggested Trifexis but I was very weary of it because I had read all sorts of horrible reviews on the drug. ANYWAYS, he suggested that I try a new topical called "Vectra." When showing me how to distribute the treatment he mentioned how the dose was a bit on the large size for someone my dog's size.....but you think you should be able to trust your vet right?? WRONG! I applied the treatment on my pup and he had the WORST reaction ever. He experienced non-stop nervous ticks, running around, going insane, crying, yelping, and throwing up…. everything that would make any animal parent a complete wreck. I had to stay up with my dog for over 8 hours to monitor his behavior. Ended up calling these guys and I literally talked to the RUDEST woman. They had absolutely no compassion for me OR my pet. I made a claim with the drug company and demanded my money back for the vet visit and the Vectra money. She gave me the hardest time and ALSO went as far as telling me how it's basically MY fault for not taking the first suggestion from the vet EVEN though it kills animals!!!! Anyways after being on the phone with this rude woman I broke into tears telling her my dog had gone through HELL. I mean the customer is always right!! I had spent near $150 dollars that day...I was only asking my money back for $55 dollars worth of that $150 total bill. They FINALLY agreed to refund that money but this place does NOT truly care about the well being of your animals!! To treat a customer the way they did to me was just astonishing. To the reviewer whom stated that this was the slowest vet they've ever been to, I highly doubt that you had to wait for 3 hours. I believe this was an exaggeration on your behalf. They are a busy practice and take in walk ins (as many vets in this area do not). As a regular client (who has switched vets because of the lack of compassion/care/etc. at other practices closer to me), I've had to wait at times past my appointment time. However, this happens at all veterinary practices, but never 3 hours..I truly doubt that happened. If it did happen, I'm certain it would be because either there was #1 an emergency situation or #2 you were a walk in with a pet not in immediate need , just a routine vaccination and there were clients with appointments ahead of you. Dr. Dan Wilson is a very compassionate, honest and empathetic veterinarian and deserves the thriving (thus busy) practice he has. The same goes for the rest of his staff. Read Less
