This vet is the poorest excuse for a vet. The techs and vets who work here only care about doing enough to make themselves feel good all the while getting off on time. To heck with the sick pets and stressed owners who have been up all night and all day, who come in looking for real help. My sister’s dog came in with violent vomiting at her scheduled appointment time - 4:30pm. They gave very little details about testing they were going to do, and were very short with her and had bad attitudes about answering her questions. Such bad attitudes that my sister, who had been crying the whole 2.5 hours there, had to look at the tech and tell her, “do not talk to me like that.” They then proceeded to send her home with a prescription for a food that wasn’t even on the shelf…when my sister told an employee, they simply said, “everybody has gone home, we don’t know how to help you.” So she ended up buying a random can of dog food because nobody helped her find something comparable. At 7pm, closing time, nobody in the vet area was there - shocking. Y’all - I cannot stress enough. Do not go to Banfield. This is the 3rd terrible experience my family has had with this vet. There are many other vets that are so much better! Read Less

I really do not like leaving negative reviews, however after the experience that I had at Banfield I felt it necessary to warn others. I rescued my puppy back in September from a high kill shelter. To say she was in bad shape was an understatement. The shelter had basically been starving her to death. We took her to Banfield for the basic checkup and deworming. They also treated her for kennel cough. All was fine at this point. We also got her spade with Banfield. Then she suddenly started limping badly and I made an appointment to take her in. They asked if I wanted to do x rays and I agreed since she had been in such bad shape when we had adopted her. Long story short they ended up sending me to NC State animal hospital, which was 2 hours away, to meet with a surgeon who was not even in the state at the time. Then, once I finally found a local surgeon who was able to help my puppy with the surgery she needed on her leg, they went to read the x rays that Banfield had done on her leg which I had paid $200 for. The x rays were basically illegible and they had to completely redo them at the surgeons office. Long story short, i would not recommend Banfield to anyone. Read Less

Took my dog in to treat constipation, dealt with extremely incompetent and rude vet tech. Came in to pick up my dog and she said they were treating him for diarrhea. I spoke with the Vet and tried to alleviate any confusion. The vet reassured me that he was on the right course of treatment and that this wasn't anything that was life threatening... and she was wrong, my dog is dead because I took him to an incompetent Animal Hospital. The most disgusting part was how everything they did was an up sell, the vet tech was actively looking for more extraneous tests to charge us for. She literally used the phrase "we can tack that one on there too" and to "leave wiggle room in our budget for more" after paying close to 500$ during our visit. I'm sure calling the automated 877 number you responded with is really going to help the situation.... the vet literally laughed in our faces when we asked if it was time to put him down, we had to wake up to him deceased in our living room. *update* the meds given were to treat nausea and vomiting, which my dog did not have. I brought him in to treat constipation. I called the hotline and the vet, no help, no apology. The vet was adamant that she had done nothing wrong. She treated symptoms he didn't have, and was wrong about how dire his prognosis was Read Less

When I first got my dog we started going to banfield. She was a baby so we had her vaccines done, had her spayed, and did all sorts of tests to make sure she was healthy. A little less than a year later we take her back for another wellness check and they tell us she has heart worms and has had them for over a year. Apparently they didn't catch it the first time. IN ADDITION, we had her signed up for a puppy wellness plan. We made sure over and over again when our final payment was. But, instead of listening they instead enrolled us in another more expensive plan under our noses. We had to endure many many calls to corporate before we were able to cancel it. They were nice to our dog but they were not careful enough with her and instead of helping us they made it even more difficult. Our dog is all better now thanks to a different local vet. I have not been to a banfield location since and do not plan on it. They're out for the money, not the well-being of animals. I don't trust them with my precious fur-baby Read Less

I hesitated to write this review but I feel every pet owner should know what they are dealing with honestly and openly. I brought my cat in who was 8 months old. We were worried, she had a high fever, was lethargic. I met with the vet who, within 5 minutes, told me my cat might have FLV and if so would recommend putting her down that day. After sobbing my heart out and running tests, she was fine and a clavamox script was all she needed. If anyone at Banfield is reading this, please have better bedside matter with your patients and human family. I understand you see many a day. But we are not a number. Wait to see the results. You wouldn't tell a little human girl off the bat you may be terminal, "but let's see shall we?". And now after research, FLV is not a death sentence and shouldn't be treated as such. I will never mind the bill as long as our girl is ok. But please do better speaking to us. Read Less

During my visit at Banfield with my 5 month old puppy, Lucy, I had a very negative and traumatizing experience. I have a wellness plan set up with the pet hospital, so I would say this was probably Lucys 4th or 5th visit. I requested to have her nails trimmed, which we have done once before with Lucy at this Banfield. This time, rather than trimming her nails in the examination room like they have before, one of the vet techs put her on a leash and escorted my dog to a back room. I waited for Lucy in the examination room for almost 10 minutes and could hear her loudly yelping and crying from the other room . After the vet techs brought my puppy back into the room, they told me Lucy was trying to bite them and was very nervous. I thought this was strange because biting people is definitely not something in Lucys nature. I now realize Lucy acted this was because of how severely she was hurt. As I was walking out of Banfield, I carried Lucy out and noticed blood gushing all down my arm. Taking a closer look I could see it was coming from Lucys thumb nail, it was cut so short it was almost gone. I couldn't believe they would let a dog walk out like that unnoticed. I walked right back into the Pet Smart and asked for some help. Blood from my puppy was dripping all over the floor and onto my clothes. One of the vet techs put a little powder on the end of her nail before I left, and suggested us to hold her to make sure she doesn't walk on it for about an hour. After brining Lucy home, she was in so much pain she was unable to walk for the rest of the night. It was absolutely heartbreaking watching her lay in the same position crying for help when she couldn't even get up. I am beyond disappointed with the service Banfield has provided my dog and no longer feel it is a safe place to bring my pets. Even after paying 15 dollars for her nail trim on top of the 40$ a month I pay for the wellness plan, nobody seemed to concerned or was willing to compensate me for what had happened. I am paying for a professional to provide my puppy with services they should be trained in. Not for someone to hurt my dog Read Less

I have called you all 6 times over the past 2 weeks. My dog is COVERED in a rash and icthing like crazy because of her seasonal allergies. She comes in regularly for a shot. I get put on hold every single time I call you all and last time I was left on hold for over 20 minutes. Now, my dog is chewing off her foot pads, because they itch so badly. I pay you all every month and cannot afford emergency vet care. So, as soon as you finally let me schedule an appointment I plan on bringing my dog to you for the last time. Looking for a new vet hospital. This is unacceptable. I never get mad at these things but my dog is my life and because of your lack of service, she is in more pain. He had some tough medical issues ranging from pancreatitis, to glaucoma and cataracts. I'm pretty sure they saved Lucky when he had pancreatitis. My baby was in extremely poor shape. I never had anything bad to say about this vet until very recent. I just adopted a new dog and he was neutered days before. I noticed his incision site didn't look right so I brought him in for an "incision check" and she said it looked fine and normal and the incision was closed but he had a hard lump that she has never seen before and I should take him to the Emergency vet and get an ultrasound. Never once did she offer to see him (his incision site was not fine nor was it normal) I ended up having to take my dog to the emergency vet anyways because he had a fever of 106 and had a serious incision infection. I have had several horrible experiences at this Banfield location, and today was the tipping point. Every time I have come in (I have 3 pets, so I have been in frequently), I have never been seen within 30 minutes of my appointment time, and I have certainly never left within an hour... most times spending 2-3 hours (mostly waiting) for either a comprehensive check-up or something very simple, then to be rushed out of the door. I once had a vet tell me that she was "not a cat person" during a comprehensive checkup for my CAT. They can never get blood work on my cat and ask us to "bring him back next week..." Two other vets that we have seen have had absolutely no problem getting blood work on him. Once we had an emergency about 30 minutes before they closed, and they said they were too busy and couldn't take him. I have had invoices printed off from pets that were not mine, and have had mixups with them calling to remind me of procedures that were not scheduled for my pets. Today, I had an appointment at 1:45, and I called at 1:50 to say that I was running a few minutes late due to awful traffic and would be there in 5 minutes, to which they replied, "We are sorry, we can't see your pet because our staff takes lunch at 2 PM, and we follow a very strict schedule here." I guess they only follow a strict schedule for their lunch break because they have NEVER been on schedule, not once, for my pets' appointments.  And why would they schedule an appointment 15 minutes before their "lunch break" anyways, only scheduling 15 minutes for my pet?? While other, smaller vets may be more expensive, because they are not hustling the "wellness plans" that Banfield does, it is totally worth every penny extra to have compassion and great quality of care. (By the way this is my first online review because I feel so strongly about this)!(I will say that we love Dr. Evans... she has been great with our dog, and we will miss her!!) Read Less

I've been 3 times, and always get the distinct impression they're more interested in running up my bill than providing quality care. If you don't have the long-term plan they constantly try to sell you, everything is a la carte - $20 to swab this, $40 to check that, etc. They even charge a "hazardous waste disposal" fee for the pet's stool sample. If you don't ask a lot of questions you're going to pay for a lot of pointless stuff. Last straw for me was a $250 bill for various procedures to "confirm" and treat a very obvious ear infection, followed by a refusal to prescribe more eardrops unless I came in and repeated the process all over again. Definitely won't be going back. Read Less

We took our beloved Leo, a black English lab of 11 years old to Banfield on Saturday afternoon after seeing a vet that morning because he could hardly stand and walk. Leo had never been sick prior to this. This vet told us our dog had congestive heart failure and would have to be euthanized. The vet spent lest than two minutes listening to his heart and telling me he had a murmur and fluid in his abdomen. I called Banfield and they immediately took Leo in. They met us immediately with a cart to bring Leo inside. The staff was terrific and the vet Dr. Cay Willis spent a lot of time examining him. After her examination of Leo she made a emergency appointment for the Animal and Emergency Trauma Center and told us their might be a chance to save him. Unfortunately, Leo had a ruptured tumor which was most likely hemangiosarcoma which is very common in labs as they get older. Prognosis was 2 to 4 weeks if they operated just to stop the bleeding and remove the spleen. We decided we did not want him to suffer anymore so we had him euthanized. The staff and Dr. Anna Simpson were terrific, supportive and very empathetic at the trauma center. The caring attitude displayed by Dr. Willis and her staff went well above and beyond what we ever expected. We highly recommend her and this facility.Read Less

The staff at Banfield at New Centre have always been great to us. Our old boxer, Rocco, got into a fight over a treat with a young female pit bull we were fostering. To make a long story short, she tore him up badly before I could get them separated. He had serious wounds all over his face, neck and legs and he'd lost lots of blood. We brought him into Banfield and Dr. Martin and her team went straight to work on him. He was in surgery about eight hours; the staff kept on working until they had him stabilized, about two and a half hours after their normal closing time. Even though they'd been working hard all day, they showed nothing but love and concern for our dog. They wouldn't give up on him until they had him out of the woods. Despite his age, he recovered fully from his wounds and lived about another year, thanks to the care the people at Banfield gave him. I rarely get reminder phone calls and appointment times apparently do not matter, there is always a 20+ minute wait. I had a 5:30 appointment today. Called to let them know I was on my way at 5:27 (bad traffic)- was told no problem. Arrived and signed in at 5:32. Got put in a room at 6:00. Since being put in this room I've had time to browse the rooms literature, pet my dog, took my coat off, played download the yelp app, and write this review. Finally left at 6:48. Vet was super nice and apologetic (though this is the fifth experience I've had like this at this Banfield) which is the only reason this is not a two-star review. Read Less

I've been to 3 Banfields since having dogs (Garner, Cary, and Wilmington). This one is really good. They call me to remind me of appointments, they are fast when you get there, they treat my dog quickly and call me when he is done. They are very, very friendly. The Banfield we saw in Garner was probably the "least best" of the Banfields. Cary and Wilmington are much more responsive when you have an issue, and the wait times are not long. Garner was pretty bad on calling you to be there at a certain time, then having you sit for 30 minutes after you arrived. I liked them ok, except for the wait and they seemed understaffed.Wilmington Banfield is just a totally pleasant experience, they work well with my reluctant pup and treat him well. As he has grown he's less reluctant to go in and get checked, and I attribute this to how he's been treated. The only thing noticeably not optimal (but thorough) is their out-patient report is "War and Peace" in its length. I like the thoroughness, but man, it's alot of paper. I'll take the paper, but it sure must be costing them alot in print supplies where they could be more succinct an tell you more with less paper.I absolutely love their on-line pet tool!! If you are a Banfield customer, you should definitely use this! I printed my dog's whole vaccine history for doggy day care in about a minute. Read Less

I have two dogs, both are rescues so as far as one can say they both have special needs.  I have both of them on the wellness plans offered by Banfield and have never had an issue. One of my dogs was bitten by the other dog late in the day, she caught him in the eye.  I called Banfield and they took him right in, they could not treat the eye after examination but recommended three options.  One was to try to treat it with just antibiotics and medication but not a great recommendation and with a very poor chance of success.  Wait and then have surgery to remove the eye, again with the dog in pain no a very good choice.  The last was to take the dog to N.C. State Emergency Animal Clinic / Hospital.  This was a two hour drive, they new it and so did we.  We were informed it would be expensive but about the only real chance to save the eye.  We took this option and off we went.Banfield knowing of the emergency did not make us wait to pay the bill they simply said get going provided a pain medication for our dog, called NC State for us sent the exam note and treatment records and gave us a warm blanket for the dog. Off we went.  Our dog underwent surgery at 100 AM they were not able to save the eye.  I must commend the staff, they got us going with directions and sent the medical treatment notes.  When we got to NC State they had already recalled the EYE Surgeon. They did not make us pay a dime while the emergency was on going, they simply said we would get the bill done later.  They called to check on our dog and did not press about the bill.  After the trip to NC State we came back and two days later I returned to Banfield to pay my bill, they not once bugged me about it.  The first thing they wanted to know what how was our dog.  I paid my bill, that was very small for an emergency like this. The Techs and Vets all know our dogs and are great.  I have never had an issue I would recommend to anyone who is very serious about taking care of their animals. Nice people. But I signed a contract stating that my information would not be sold or given away. Well safe to say that an incident happened in the Petsmart parking lot and they breached contract, gave my information away, and the police showed up at my house. Then corporate refused to take responsibility for what they did because they said that they were following "state laws". Well if that is the case then alter your contract so you don't F your customers over. And they are still trying to make me pay off my pets contracts when they're the ones that breached the contracts. Banfield binds you into a contract that is ridiculous and way overpriced considering my dogs payoff is 800$ and she only goes in there maybe once every 2 months. Go to a vet that isn't going to try to tie you into a ridiculous contract that they don't even honor. Read Less

We took our beloved Leo, a black English lab of 11 years old to Banfield on Saturday afternoon after seeing a vet that morning because he could hardly stand and walk. We have three dogs now and we wouldn't think of letting anyone else care for them. Read Less

Horrible service! This office will charge anything they possibly can and add on costs at the last minute. Their customer service is awful, they have extreme wait times (an hour once for a rabies shot), and they are simply not worth the money. This is a true 'corporate' vet, they just don't care about the animal when it comes down to money. And their wellness plan is a waste of money. I will never return to this vet and have found great service with Port City Veterinary...they are more personable, care about the animals, and have much better prices. I have given Banfield several chances and they have failed to meet my very attainable expectations each and every time. Read Less

Absolutely loved our Banfield Vet in Apex, NC. At the Wilmington location though it is always crazy.

Read Less
