Mixed feelings with this vet office. They get the job done and that's about the only positive experience for me. I took my new pit bull puppy to this vet whom was recommended by the breeders. Each time my boyfriend and I took our pup, we were treated like we had no idea how to take care of him. We are young but I have had more than enough experience with raising dogs. Each time we went, I felt as if I was being talked to as if I was unintelligent and as if my puppy was bad. We were constantly told how much of a bad attitude he has and how badly he was in need of training... he's 5 months old today. They made me feel as if I wasn't capable of raising my dog on my own which made me so uncomfortable I changed vets. Read Less

I took my new fur baby for his shots today and fell in love with this office. The parking lot is well maintained and includes a grassy area for pet patients to use the bathroom. The waiting room is clean and my kitty loved the fish tank. The staff were extremely nice from the time we walked in the door until we walked out. The wait before our appointment was very short and the exam was really fast. My kitten needed meds and I was super impressed by how affordable they were. My favorite part about this office was knowing they take in abandoned and stray cats/kittens. I even ended up adopting a playmate for my kitty. I would definitely recommend this office to other pet parents! Read Less

we at NC Keeshonds highly recommend Dineen Animal Hospital, I have been using them for our adults, and litters for years now and being a breeder I really depend on quality vet care because a single bad experience can ruin a breeders reputation for selling healthy puppies. The staff really cares and is willing to take the time to explain anything and everything that they are doing, things to look out for. I don't care what any of these reviews say - Dr. Dineen is a saint! I rushed my extremely ill & listless bunny here one day right before closing time - I was not a current patient, and had no relationship with him, but I called ahead and they held the clinic open for me (not many vets will even see a rabbit). I was absolutely distraught, but I appreciated Dr. Dineen giving me the hard truth - my bunny was very ill, and was unlikely to make it. He gave me my options - put the bunny down, or face hundreds of dollars of vet bills for an animal that was very unlikely to pull through in the end. I was broke and in college, and I had an essential breakdown in his office. I knew I could not afford mounting vet bills, but wanted to save my pet. Dr. Dineen allowed me to sign over my baby to him so he could give him free care, and then would allow me to adopt him back for a fee that we would agree upon together should he pull through. He didn't make it, sadly, but even after three days of costly hospitalization, Dr. Dineen didn't ask me for a dime when my pet passed away. Most vets would have turned me away, but this vet has heart - he really loves animals and their owners. This is the best vet in Wilmington. Period. Read Less

We are new in town and needed to find a veterinarian for our two cats, Rex and Rufus.  My friend recommended Dineen. The office is cozy and features a large fish tank in the center.  When I took Rex, I thought he may enjoy looking at the fish.  However, I think that his mind was on his appointment.Rex saw Dr. Mills.  The appointment went well.  Believe it or not, Rex enjoys going to the vet.  He may be the only cat in the world who likes it.  He saw Dr. Mills, who counseled poor Rex about his recent weight gain and also gave me recommendations regarding businesses in Wilmington.  The only thing that I didn't like was that I could not hold him for the exam.  I am sure there is liability if a person's pet bites or scratches his/her owner.  However, the vet assistant (Pam?) was gentle and professional. The next visit was for Rufus.  I had bigger concerns for Rufus because he is feral.  He only trusts me and my husband, and I was sure that having someone else restrain would cause much trauma for him.I told the vet tech this.  She sized up Rufus and asked if she could try carrying him into the back room to get his weight and vitals.  I agreed and waited anxiously for their return.  Everything seemed fine.  Then, Dr. Batten came in to examine him.  Between the doctor and the assistant, they created a special magic that appeared to calm my cat.  He even snuggled into the assistant's arms as she held him.  Dr. Batten was every bit as knowledgeable and professional as Dr. Mills.  She was even able to pry plaque off of two of Rufus' teeth instead of him having  to go through a full cleaning. So, I am five star pleased, especially after the experience Rufus had.  Oh, and Doctor Dineen's wife wrote a thank you note in the most beautiful script following Rex's visit. This place is purrfect! Used to bring my cats here before I moved to Raleigh, NC where I now work at a cat friendly practice that follows the guidelines for feline veterinary medicine recommended by the AAFP ( American Association of Feline Practioners). After being educated on feline veterinary guidelines, I'm horrified I ever took my cats here.My first perception, as well as any clients when they walk into their veterinarians office, was that the reception staff was incredibly rude. Actually, not all of them. There are two I remember, the more blondeish one was on SEVERAL occasions extremely rude and not pleasant to speak to whatsoever. The other receptionist who is frequently in the front was always sweet and considerate. I would dread calling that place to request med refills because the blonde one was so unpleasant. If I ever acted like that at my job they would fire me on the spot. Not kidding. The veterinarian never recommended I get my cats tested for FIV/FELV. I was young and uninformed at this point and didn't even know kittens should be tested for this. They also vaccinated my cats at a site between their shoulder blades. Big no-no since cats can develop aggressive reactions to vaccines or any injectables (though occurrence of this is low, vets that know anything about feline medicine or educate themselves on current literature would vaccinate in the limbs in case a tumor were to form). Once my cat urinated in the crate on the way to the vet and when they whisked him away to the back to do whatever it is they did (they didn't even walk me through what they did in the treatment area) they discovered he urinated in the crate and simple put a potty pad in the crate and put him back in there to soak in his own urine. They didn't even bother to wipe him off or let me know that he had urinated. I found that out after I got home. Don't take your cats here. This practice doesn't follow the standards that you want from a veterinarian who treats your cats. Go to catvets.com and find a cat friendly practice that actually knows how to treat felines. I have three dogs, two cats, and have been seeing them for over 10 years.  I love them.   They saved the life of my dog by doing emergency surgery after he had eaten something that totally blocked his intestines.  They also put down a cat, at NO CHARGE, that my husband found that had been hit on the side of the road.  They also did the same for a coworker that found a kitten suffering that had been hit.  I had called another vet office that was closer to us at the time to see if they would put the cat down but it was going to cost for the anesthesia, the disposal, etc.I trust them with all of my animals and always will. I have brought my cat here since she was a kitten and she is now 5.  We just came home from her yearly checkup (09 July 2014).  We usually see Dr. Batten who is fabulous; today's visit was no exception, she is the best! She always talks to my cat very gently and in a soothing voice (kitty is very skittish at the vet) while giving a very complete exam.  The techs are normally very good, today's first tech was no exception (I didn't get her name) but she was  very patient when we were trying to coax kitty cat from her carrier; the tech who came in to hold kitty cat for her shots (blonde girl, didn't get her name either) was exceptionally good,  holding the cat without discomfort but in a manner that allowed Dr. Batten to administer the vaccines quickly.  We have seen Dr. Dineen a couple of times, but it has been years; he was friendly and knowledgeable, but not quite as warm as Dr. Batten; by no means a bad vet, though, my cat just needs extra cajoling. We have seen Dr. Hanson a couple of times and she is also very warm, caring, and knowledgeable (not sure if she is still with the practice).  The desk staff, especially the girl with blondish hair who has been there for years, has always been pleasant and efficient. I hope those that have had bad experiences will express their concerns to the staff and hopefully they will be reconciled. I have always had good experiences with the staff here and will continue to bring my pets (current and future) here. Read Less

When I moved to Wilmington in 2002, a friend recommended that my dogs go to Dineen Animal Hospital. I've had dogs my entire life and they've mostly been pugs and french bulldogs who have their share of health issues. Of all the vets I've seen over the years, I can honestly say that Dr. Dineen and his staff have been the best and have far exceeded my expectations. During each visit, the entire staff happily greets me and my pets. When there has been a concern, I've always been told to bring my pet in right away and never had to wait for an appointment. I would highly recommend Dineen Animal Hospital to anyone who wants the best care for their pet. Read Less

Dineen Animal Hospital used to provide great service several years ago when my girlfriend and I took our dog, Oliver, there back in 2009. However, their staff is now absolutely atrocious, ignorant, and incompetent. We moved back to Wilmington in late 2011 and found a dog on the side of the road one day, so naturally, my girlfriend took him to Dineen the day after as he was terribly ill. One of the vet technicians essentially accused my girlfriend of stealing the dog. Mind you, this dog was covered in fleas, had intestinal parasites, and was nearly skin and bones. The audacity of this hideous, wannabe-punk rock chick, vet tech to put her disgusting accusations on the table before considering the well-being of the animal is unreal. It certainly speaks to you of the complete lack of integrity that is maintained within those walls. Additionally, when the dog was taken to the back room to get tested, he had an accident due to his parasitic infestation (and most likely from nervousness due to the evil energy that engulfed the place), and the other moronic vet technicians proceeded to make a big deal about how disgusting it was, raising their voice at the dog. Who works in a veterinarian hospital and makes animals feel like they're being reprimanded because they're sick? They evidently promote inhumane behavior at this vet and even the receptionists and veterinary doctors are boorish. Bottom line, Dineen Animal Hospital is an absolutely disgusting place and I could not insist more that you take your pets elsewhere if you truly care about them, because the parasites who work at that establishment certainly don't care one bit. Disorganized, rude and condescending. There is a decided lack of basic care or compassion from any of the current staff. Had taken both pets there several years ago and had a good experience with the vet who treated them. However, I have witnessed a dramatic decrease in the level of service, from longer office waiting periods, to the high price of meds and overall decline in attitude from the desk staff. Not sure if the management has changed or if the staff is simply overworked and disgruntled. Either way, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Read Less

I'm sure she was terrified in an atmosphere with complete strangers where they poke and prod you. The doctor didnt tell us anything about what tests or shots they'd given her, nor even comment on her weight or general appearance. He handed me a pill to give her, left the room and stated "welcome to the practice." we at NC Keeshonds highly recommend Dineen Animal Hospital, I have been using them for our adults, and litters for years now and being a breeder I really depend on quality vet care because a single bad experience can ruin a breeders reputation for selling healthy puppies. The staff really cares and is willing to take the time to explain anything and everything that they are doing, things to look out for. I have had the pleasure of using every vet on staff, met every tech and found them equally as wonderful. Read Less

Read Less

Not only do i have no idea what they did to her there, when the doctor finally appeared he stated "well...you have a biter." No shit. I'm sure she was terrified in an atmosphere with complete strangers where they poke and prod you. The doctor didnt tell us anything about what tests or shots they'd given her, nor even comment on her weight or general appearance. He handed me a pill to give her, left the room and stated "welcome to the practice."
