My initial experiences at Highsmith with our new puppy were wonderful. Dr. Anderson is amazing and very friendly as are all of the support staff we have met. However, we've had reason to return to Highsmith a few times and each time the base visit is getting more an more expensive. I took our puppy in for a rash that a different doctor at Highsmith said was nothing. It made me feel like I was wasting their time. Although, he did hand me a bottle of medicated shampoo which I learned upon checkout was $30!! During the next visit when my dogs rash persisted and spread, I was told by one of the techs that the shampoo I received from them was really useless for the bacteria that my dog has. We then saw a third vet at Highsmith and as a result of those visits our dog has now been on antibiotics for 3 weeks. Clearly our dogs rash was "something". The visits are getting shorter but the cost in increasing. As I checked out during our last visit I commented on the increasing cost of the visits. The base price increased but also a large portion of it is the medication. I work in a human medical setting and I go above and beyond to help people find the most cost effective solution available. Although I didn't know it at the time, I would have greatly appreciated knowing that I could have filled our dogs meds at a regular pharmacy for a lot less or that there was a brand specific offer available to greatly lower the cost of our pets meds. We've been diligent and loyal customers and have happily brought our puppy in whenever we've had concerns. However, I feel a bit taken advantage of and my overall concern is that their fees will continue to increase with time. Read Less

These people are the kindest most empathetic vets in town. They took care of my kitty from adoption to the last of his too few days. They were always upfront about what can be done while being realistic about what it will accomplish. My cat was my life and I would not have trusted him with any other vet. I don't know if they are the cheapest or most expensive but I do know they care and won't take advantage of you and that is worth any amount of money. Even when I put my baby down with an emergency vet, they found out and sent a condolences card signed by everyone in the office. I will never forget that small act of kindness. Read Less

Dr. Anderson was our sweet Bentley's vet for his entire life. From his puppy shots, to his final breath last night. She was at our home with us, and with all of the sadness that we were feeling losing our "first born", she was an angel, and I'm not sure we could have gotten through that experience with anyone else. I told her if we ever get another (an impossible thought now) there will never be another choice but her. The entire staff at Highsmith are amazing including Val who was always there to assist with our forever spunky Bentley. We have two dogs and one is a brand new 8 week old puppy with a few health issues. Dr Anderson at Highsmith Animal Hospital simply put is THE BEST VET I have met. She is amazing with animals and she keeps them calm and happy when they are scared and stressed. When you meet her and are in the exam room, it's extremely obvious that she LOVES your fur baby and any other animal that comes through. She will NOT rush you out of the room like some other vets will do. She will take her time and answer any question you have and make sure you understand what she has done and will do and how your pups are doing. Its so nice to meet an animal healthcare professional that loves their job and the work they do rather than being in it because it pays well. I cannot say enough about Highsmith animal hospital. They are truly compassionate people who have helped my cat Calypso so much so far. All of my cats are young, but calypso has a few very rare things wrong with her and Dr Highsmith has been incredible (as well as the other drs and staff!) Today was my first time going to Highsmith and I will definitely be back! I've been to other vets in the area but wasn't impressed. The office space is clean and the waiting area is large enough for everyone with their pets. The receptionists were kind and helpful. The doctor I saw today was Dr. Tayloe and you can tell she is passionate about her line of work. As a new cat mom, she set my heart at ease with going into full detail about everything that I needed to know with my rescue kitten. I would recommend this vet office to anyone in the Wilmington area. You can tell they care about their animals! Also, they are quick to get you through so you aren't there all day! Read Less

Just want to say how much we appreciate Dr Meghan Tayloe and the wonderful care she provides for our 3 critters. She has been a godsend helping us to understand and control a chronic condition in one of our beloved cats. She is always willing to see him on an emergent basis when his condition becomes hard to manage and always takes the time to help us figure out the best as well as most cost effective way to deal with his issues. Our kitty decided to break camp and spend a night on the town. Keep in mind she is strictly an indoor cat. Found her the next morning with a limp and puncture wounds in her foot. Highsmith accepted us with no hesitation as a first time client. Did their due diligence in taking awesome care of our wayward Feline. Fortunately, it was not as bad as we thought. Every vet at HAH (with my 2 dogs and 1 cat) has been amazing! They take extra time to make sure your pet and you are comfortable. Very caring and knowledgable. Now I live 30 minutes away and pass 5+ vets on my way to HAH, I would never consider changing. HAH treats me like family, and having a staff that truly knows and cares is amazing. Best vet in Wilmington hands down! Dr. Highsmith cares a great deal about his work and is very compassionate towards animals. He is extremely thorough in reviewing the details of the visit. I never felt rushed or that he had anything more important to do than care for my pets needs. I have never had a vet that I like more. Furthermore the whole staff is extremely helpful and happy to be at their place of work which says even more to the quality of the facility overall. I've seen all 4 vets at different times with my 3 dogs. They are all awesome. Have not had a bad experience there and we switched to them 7 or 8 years ago. All the techs are sweet. Even the receptionists are super friendly. They all make you feel like they truly care about your pets. I wouldn't go anywhere else and I recommend them to everyone I know. 5 star facility and staff. I've a mixed breed dog with degenerative disc disease. I adopted him from a rescue group and know that he was physically abused in his early years. The staff at Highsmith consistently treats him with great care and patience! They know his name and will sit in the floor with him to give him a chance to adjust to any new people or issues. I've never felt rushed in an appointment, the admin staff, vet techs and our favorite veterinarian will take as much time as needed to explain any procedures or issues with me. Having been a staff member at Highsmith for nearly 5 years, I have to say that our proudest accomplishment is how much we care about our patients. We offer a full range of services, including laser surgery and a mobile ultrasonography service. We see onoly dogs and cats, but all breeds are welcome! We have 3 office cats, named Guppy, Biscuit, and Party. Come and meet them and the rest of us!! Most of our employees are long-term and we know most clients by name. We have 4 doctors on staff, 2 registered technicians, an assistant in school to become registered; as well as receptionists and kennel staff.
