I have a dog with Cushing's Disease which I had opted to not treat because for several years she was happy and energetic and I had researched side effects which sounded horrible. Then chronic vomiting set in abruptly (pancreatitis). I was referred to a vet hospital 4 hours away because they are board certified in internal medicine. They were a waste of time and money. Her insulin wasn't regulated upon discharge. I got back home with my dog and decided I needed to find a new vet anyway. I feared I was going to have to euthanize my dog and was told to consider it by a vet at the local E.R. This hospital saved my dog. She is 15 years old and I am hoping for at least another year with her. The office has several vets on staff who communicate. (How about that)! Communication is rare anymore. The techs and other staff are helpful and friendly. Thank you Dr. Calo, Dr. Horne and the owner whom I haven't met but played a tremendous role as well. Also, thank you to all the remaining staff. Tuffy really liked his check up today.  He only waited a few minutes for the nice staff to greet him and bring him inside to discuss his cat concerns.  They were very gentle and made him feel comfortable, while checking his vital signs.  Dr. Calo discussed issues with flea's and heartworm and all the recent rainfall...preventative actions were discussed.  Tuffy left feeling happy and prepared for a safe healthy summer of fun!  Tuffy's brother and sister will be coming in soon for their checkups as well. I've been going to WAH for almost 10 years - I've seen many doctors / techs, and every experience has been 10/10. Every member of the staff gives so much attention to your pets, and I am always relieved to feel that they love and care for my pets too. I had to put down my 12 year old boxer a few years ago and they were so thoughtful and caring in helping me with my decision, and fed my dog a plate of chocolate and bacon before he crossed the rainbow bridge.Now I have another boxer who goes weekly to Doggy Day Care at WAH, and I adore the staff there too. Their Mission Statement says it all-- compassionate health care, exceptional customer service- every visit!! We entrusted our cat, Kramer, to the dedicated, competent compassionate care of the staff of Wilmington Animal Healthcare for a good part of his life until he passed 10 days ago. I can say without reservation that in the course of raising 3 grown children, 6 dogs and 1 cat...we have never experienced the quality of medical care and the level of delightful customer-patient-family care that has been so evident with all of our interactions with ALL staff...every day!! Wilmington Animal Healthcare is in a League of its own- it has "raised the bar" compared to its competitors here in Wilmington. As we relocate to Greensboro over the next several weeks, we will be hard-pressed to find a medical care facility (human or pet) with such a qualified, competent, caring and joyful staff. From my perspective, it would be a stretch to improve our 5-star rating, but possibly providing Duck's Donuts along with their coffee in their customer-friendly waiting room ..would likely deserve a "sixth" star on the 5-star scale! Do not take your animals here!!! This place is ONLY concerned with the amount of money they can collect for treatment(s)and nothing more. I bought flea treatment for both of my dogs and it didn't work. I called to speak with them and they said to bring it back and we could get something different. When I went back to get a different product I was told if they were to give my dogs a product that had to be taken orally they would have to come in for a physical. At that point I told them that I wanted to return the unopened box of Frontline and was told it was a prescription and they were not allowed to take it back. At no point was I ever told this particular product was/is considered a prescription medication and would not be eligible to be returned. As a matter of fact, it's the exact same product that you can buy at Walmart or any pet store right off the shelf. Be advised this is NOT the type of Vet that you want to take your animals to see when money is the main motivating factor. Read Less

I had to let Heidi, my beloved 18 year old poodle go on 12/10/16. It was the hardest decision. All of the doctors and staff at WAH made the process as painless and peaceful as possible for her and made me feel as good as possible as it is to feel in such a situation. They also followed up with me and inquire how I'm doing every time I come in. They also provide excellent care to my 14 year old lab, Murphy. Everyone truly cares about owners and their pets. We recently had the very sad experience of having to put one of our beloved dogs, Shadow, to sleep. Although still a young dog he had very bad diabetes which he coped with amazingly well until it finally overwhelmed him. We discussed the situation with Dr. Paige and decided putting him to sleep was the right thing to do. Throughout the whole process all the staff at WAH went above and beyond to treat us and Shadow with great compassion, patience and understanding. I can't imagine what else they could possibly have done to comfort us anymore. Thanks to them Shadow's passing was as gentle and comfortable as possible. They then followed up with phone calls and a beautiful card as well as handling all the cremation details. Shadow's ashes are now entombed in a beautiful wooden box and while we miss him desperately we are extremely grateful to everyone at WAH. We started going to Wilmington Animal Healthcare a few months ago when we fostered our puppy, Minka. I'd give 10 stars if I could for their customer service, caring attitude and professionalism. Yesterday, Minka went in last minute for an issue and the vet was thorough with her medical care and even sent her home with a Christmas bandanna around her neck (I think this was more for her parents as we were very worried!). Every time we visit, we receive a follow up thank you note for bringing our pup. Prices are fair, no hidden costs, facility very clean and appointment process easy with our pup seen on time. We took our sweet baby, Garfield to Dr. Paige when he suddenly got sick Sunday. DR. Paige and the staff were amazing. They took such good care of him and really went above and beyond to help him. Keeping us very informed and helping us make some tough decisions. He sadly had to be put to sleep this morning but Dr. Paige was amazing. She and the staff were so caring and nurturing to us. In my profound sadness, I found peace that he was in such good hands even after he was gone. Thank you all for your love and support for our animals. I absolutely love Wilmington Animal Healthcare, I have 1 cat that has kidney failure and they have done an amazing job helping me navigate my way through IV fluids 3-4 times a week and a pill twice a day for 4 years now and she is doing so good it's unbelievable. At first I wasn't sure I could do this. They don't judge and understand I'm not made of money and that I can only do so much for a condition that cant be cured. Now my 2nd cat may have issues and I couldn't imagine taking her anywhere else. I feel at home with the staff, they are all so very sweet, caring, polite, professional and easy to talk to. Moved to Raleigh and still making the 2 hour trip to the vet... That is how awesome they are! Staff was wonderful after my fur baby had a bout of diarrhea last Nov. They called 2-3 times to follow up to make sure she was doing well. I have seen 3 different vets, but they are all competent and amazing. Support staff are always friendly and helpful. I have an English bulldog/pug mix. I'll never be able to say enough good things about this clinic. The vets and staff are top notch. My dog Ramsey has had skin allergies for years. In fact the first 5 years of his life. He was miserable. Inflammation, hot spots,and he lost the majority of his fur every summer. Not to mention the constant ear infections. After countless treatments from different vet clinics. This place turned his life around.we started coming here 14 months ago. After 3 months his quality of life changed.  My lil guy is healthy and happy. His allergies are now maintained. After your appointment they will call you for a verbal checkup. If your pet still has issues. They will get you in asap! Prices aren't the cheapest but not outrageously expensive. They give you several treatment plans. Least expensive and most expensive.  They understand that you love your animal but have a budget. If you can't afford the most expensive they will recommend alternatives to help you save money. Yep. Over the counter alternatives. If possible.     I will never take my dog anywhere else. My guy has had it rough. This is the first clinic I have taken him to that the staff will welcome him from entering and exiting. I can't say enough good things. This is the only place to take your pets. Only con: if your dog doesn't like to get their nails trimmed. It's not the best. My guy hates it. They did one paw and I was charged full price because it took so long. But then I purchased a drummel and started to do it myself. 10 out of 10 stars. Read Less

They have taken care of my dog since I adopted her, from well-puppy checkups to more serious issues, always with professionalism and compassion. They all understand how important these pets are to their owners and treat both the pets and the owners with respect and kindness. Everyone is knowledgeable, professional and seems to truly enjoy working with our pets. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 5 minutes for a scheduled appointment before someone comes out to talk with me, which is less stressful for my pet. We brought both of our 12 year old cats there last month. One had surgery for removal of a mass which turned out to be benign and she did very well. The other had recently become ill. They quickly diagnosed her with metastatic liver cancer. We provided supportive care and she passed peacefully at home. I'm really pleased with the quality of care my two dogs have received at Wilmington Animal Healthcare. The staff is wonderful. One of my dogs who is absolutely terrified of physical examinations recently tore a ligament in her leg - when I brought her in for a follow up exam (we went to the ER when it first happened) the doctor and vet tech were so gentle and calming in handling her and succeeded in getting her on her side so the doc could examine her knee. They talked her through the whole thing! Another thing I like about the staff is that they greet your dogs calmly, instead of in screechy baby voice that only amps up overexcited dogs. It may seem like an insignificant thing, but with two 60lb. dogs at the end of the leash it makes a big difference to me! The facility itself is bright, modern and clean, and there's a nice grassy potty area - complete with fire hydrant and clean up bags - out front for "emptying the tank" before an appointment. When I've gone I have been ushered into an exam room right away, which really helps quell waiting room anxiety. Discharge and follow up instructions are clear and detailed, and email communication from the practice is great (particularly for remembering to schedule vaccines).I would confidently recommend this practice to a friend! Everyone here is fantastic.  My dog came down with a very difficult vector-borne disease that required a ton of testing and frequent visits, and Dr. Jeff Ward went above and beyond not just to provide excellent care for my dog, but also to research all possible treatments and diagnostic tests. He literally could not have done more and was incredibly patient with my zillion questions (I don't think I was the easiest client).  Everyone is wonderful there, and the boarding service is great too.
