General Info
Each meeting at the Abri Veterinary Hospital, Winston-Salem, is structured parallel to the animal’s energy pace. The clinic goes on pause when the movement slows down. The strategic plan shifts every time you change your physical posture. Throughout North Carolina, this rhythm-based care resounds. Each session starts with a baseline calibration, during which observers identify how a pet enters the room and record its mobility speed combined with the eyes’ orientation or flickering. Care is then based on demonstrated behavior. The cat coils up and the staff steps back. A dog that starts to lean is likely to step forward and be less subtle in its movements. Touch does not hurry but waits patiently until a new state shows the signs of readiness to proceed. Silence is used frequently and separately (in terms of the planned interplay of sound and silence, light and dimness, space and proximity). Abri Veterinary Hospital offers medical services in dermatology, nutrition refinement, joint care, disease screening, and pain mitigation. It uses decision trees rather than prescribed sequences of actions (the diagnostic activities cease as soon as there is an alertness spike). The serenity intensifies yet their actions remain. The thought process enables even highly anxious animals to complete the exam without entering their panic mode. The discharge protocol copies specific unique signals to know when to lower proximity and interaction levels. Rhythmic actions then mimic the normal routine meaning that meals and walks are important in regaining balance. Families receive guidance on how to implement the emotional pacing technique together with aftercare support. Through these small changes, the hospital bed in her home truly becomes “hers” again. Abri Veterinary Hospital provides veterinary services to the homes of North Carolina residents (Winston-Salem) by listening before speaking, mirroring before handling, and responding before prescribing. Services offered at Abri Veterinary Hospital in New Bern, NC include Prescription Medications. This range of services ensures that local pet owners in Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas have access to everything their pet needs, from routine checkups to specialized veterinary care. The clinic stays a trusted presence in the community by assisting the pets of Winston-Salem achieve long, healthy and comfortable lives.

Absolutely the BEST veterinary practice I've ever found! They keep current on medications, care and procedures, which is so very important. I came there from a single vet practice, and my 3 lb. maltese had been given thryroid meds which had been taken off the market, and I got the approved ones. The two senior vets, Dr. Harris and Dr. Bucholis, have about 80yrs. combined experience, and it is so valuable. I have seen one of the other vets, Dr. McElvoy, and she is excellent also. I have heard excellent reviews from clients who see Dr. White and Hernadez also. They have top notch diagnostic skills, surgery skills (all of the vets do surgery, so emergencies are well covered). Love the staff, all of whom are caring and compassionate, prices are reasonable, quality is GREAT. Read Less

In 1990 my husband and I entered into a lifetime commitment with the vets and staff of Abri, we didn't know it at the time, just like we didn't know there was a path to our door for unwanted kitties. In this time, Abri has provided service to our 11 cats. From taking care of fleas when they were indoor kittens to full check ups before we took in the older homeless ones, to treating "colds" to much more complicated medical problems - like 3 years of treatment and support during a battle with gi lymphoma. For 6 of our 11, they have been there to see them out of this life and provide comfort to us, the humans. The staff have always been helpful with getting our "supplies" together or made sure it was ok for me to visit when one of ours has had to stay over to recuperate from a surgical procedure. I consider us fortunate to have Abri with us. Read Less

Been going to Abri for 13 years and they have become the worst vet in Winston-Salem. Refused to see our dog whom has a blood clot in her ear and is suffering quite a bit and will not eat or drink. We have no money to pay up front and they refused to work a payment plan out with us. Even after 13 years of bringing our animals to them. Just spent over $1000 last year with them to get our dog treated for heartworms, but when we are struggling they refuse to help. They don't care about the animals. All they care about is the all mighty dollar. The worst ones there are Robin and Beth. The front desk girls are cruel and heartless. No regard for the animal or the owner who has to watch as their dog suffers and can do nothing to help relieve the suffering. We hope to get help from AARF. BUT NEVER USE ABRI. Love these guys. They are great about seeing you as soon as possible, even if you're a walk-in. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the doctors are all great. We take our special needs kitty there (she's a perma-kitten and has severe cerabellar hypoplasia). Dr. McAvoy also has (or has had) a CH kitty and knows just how to treat them.
