My experience at this office has always been negative. The techs here do this awful "rambling spiel" at the beginning of each visit where they name a ton of things your dog MUST HAVE that day, then slaps a price tag on the end of a couple hundred dollars. When you try to have them explain so you can understand the pricing everything they mentioned somehow magically all becomes "optional". They are only interested in taking your money and have no concern for your pet. You would think this office gets commision on their sales, and feels a lot more like a transaction than a visit. The Veterinarians are not friendly to my puppy and didn't even try to talk to him to get him to go back into the room, nor did he even say a simple "Hello!" or "How are you today?" to me when he came in. My dog has been a patient here for 4 years. The staff is very friendly and welcoming when we go in. They are always very positive when answering my questions or working with my dog. Even on the phone, the receptionists are kind and don't mind talking about any problems I may have! Read Less

I used to use this place for weekend boarding services, and they were fantastic! Then I assume management changed, and that's when I noticed the differences in service. First I was charged for an additional night of boarding (that was corrected and credited to the next time I boarded). Then I was charged for a comprehensive exam even though my pet had just had a comprehensive exam at his regular vet with all of his updated vaccines (that was corrected after I provided them AGAIN with his paperwork). Then I was told my pet needed a vaccine booster to be boarded there because it "was policy" and they'd be happy to provide it to my pet but would be charged an exam fee and a vaccine booster fee. That did it for me! I've been taking my pet to Abri Veterinary Hospital for boarding ever since. They're great! Just wish they had Sunday pick-up hours like VCA, but we deal with it.Read Less

Do not go to vca. I tried to remove my card after paying my bill and they refused to take it off. She said this way we can take your money when we need to. I asked for a paper bill, so I could pay in a check and they still refused. These people are thief's!! Not only that but my poor cat suffered while he was there. Read Less

Have had 2 cats taken care of here over the past 16 years. They have always been compassionate and caring in the medical care of our cats. When our first cat passed away at the emergency vet (reviewed elsewhere), our regular veterinarian sent a very nice consolation note to us. Over and above the required. Hence, 5 stars! In addition, they have provided excellent boarding care on the occasions of our travels. Of note, this is one of the more expensive options for Veterinary Care and they will provide a lot of care (which translates to lots of money). It's ok, but just be prepared. Read Less

The techs and receptionists are so nice. They are helpful and superfriendly which is a change from the not so distant past. They are offering more products and services and are very upfront about fees and charges. Reasonable boarding costs. Its always a good experience these days when we go. Read Less

Got drawn into an annual plan, so I was stuck at this vet for a year. That was my first regret here. Exceptionally slow service. For a normal check up, I was normally there for over a hour and a half. The actually vets are nice but the vet technicians seem to have a high turn over rate and we all know that creates problems. They're not friendly or have any knowledge of what they're doing. I've been wrongly billed multiple times (they corrected it after I brought it to their attention) and I've left and not noticed until I got home that they gave me medicine with another dogs name on it. Will never use this vet or any other VCA vets again. My annual plan is almost up! Read Less

I went there this morning & was extremely pleased. My other vet's website stated that they opened at 7:00 a.m., walk in appt, and when I pulled up it was closed. I called Animal hospital west & they told me to come on in. The staff was extremely friendly, especially Nichole. I was in there for less than an hour & seen Dr. Strickland. He was very caring & went over everything with me. I would recommend this vet to anyone.Read Less

I won't be returning to this establishment. Took my dog in, she was an elderly dog, because she could no longer use her hind legs. Got her back later that day and she was screaming in pain and constantly drinking bowl after bowl of water & starving!! I feel as though they put her in a cage, never even gave her one bit of attention and let her lay there without food or water for almost 12 hours. Not to mention lack of pain management, I'm sure. Was told flatly, after paying almost $400, that euthanasia was the only option. I think the "Vet" would've had an idea about that before having me shell out that much money. We did put my dog down the next day, at CVS. They were very compassionate and amazing professionals. My dog went through undue suffering at the hands of these...people. Definitely do not recommend. Have used this practice for well over 10 years. Have always gotten excellent care for my pets - 2 dogs and two cats treated here. Boarded both dogs numerous times and they always were well cared for while we were away. Even had calls from the vet while the dogs were there because they needed treatment for minor illnesses but wanted to let us know what was going on before proceeding. Because of illnesses and old age, both dogs have had to be put to sleep; Dr. Strickland and the staff were extremely compassionate and understanding with us at each of these very sad times. One of our cats is now advanced in age and her health is precarious. We are as always receiving great medical care and TLC from the fine folks. The people who have complained about this practice probably have not been the easiest pet parents to get along with and that makes a huge difference. We have seen some totally out of control people come into this office and take out their animal's illness and their own problems on the staff. If you are polite, civilized and realistic, you and your pets will be treated well. I highly recommend VCA Animal Hospital West to everyone who cares about their pets. Read Less
