I needed someone to see my dog without much notice for an ear infection that seemed to come out of nowhere.  On Thursday, I made an appointment for Saturday morning at 9:30 am.  We arrived right on time and there was one man ahead of us in line and one man sitting in the waiting area.  When we approached the clerk, she took my information in a painstakingly slooooooow way and then handed me a clipboard to fill out essentially the same information.  They asked for my birthdate and social security number, which I thought was weird but I declined to provide.  Then we waited again. For what seemed like forever.  Finally, at 10:30, someone took us into the smallest exam room I've ever seen.  (The building itself is old and outdated in general).  The tech was warm and seemed to genuinely enjoy my dog. The vet finally appeared, did a cursory exam, and said she was prescribing Otomax (which I now know I can buy at 1800 pet meds without an exam, but I guess better safe than sorry...I digress).  She said she was relatively sure it was just a normal ear infection but offered to swab it and test for bacteria for an additional $19 (I declined). The vet left, came back with the drops, showed me how to put them in and at 10:37 we were presented with the bill for almost $90.  This seemed really high to me, but I didn't ask for a quote before we got started, so I do take the blame for that.  In all, way too long of a wait for average care in an old building with too high prices.  We will find a new vet for the future. I sat there holding this sweet little dog listening as my boyfriend PLEADED with you to help us. He was told by the man on the phone "I am not in the business to do this for free". I love this group.  I have been a regular with their vet and their boarding kennel since moving here four years ago.  They're so caring, well trained, and compassionate. I trust them to communicate with me when I travel if ever anything comes up.   The prices are very reasonable at the vet and the kennel.  While to a human it doesn't appear to be a luxurious facility,  they make up for it in love.  My dogs are ALWAYS happy to go to the vet or the kennel there, and remain happy upon return.  I can't say that about all places.  About the vets:Dr. Schill is so fabulous!  I love her. My anxious dog is always calm in her presence, even letting her take stitches out without a complaint. That says a lot!  I've also had Dr. Hoffman attending, and he was equally great. I work in epilepsy, and didn't disclose this, but when he called to talk to me about a first seizure in my dog he was spot -on. He knows his stuff beyond General practice. About the kennel: large runs, super attention.  Heather the manager is superb. I can tell she sneaks our 3 dogs extra love. There is no other Place that I would Trust my Babies with than Winston Vet .They are so Caring and so Great at what they do .They treat the Animals that go there as if they where there own. I have had my Babies treated there for around 16 yrs now and no matter the problems they are facing I know they are in great Hands and I don't have to worry about any happening to them.The Staff and Doctors are Great people and so Friendly .I Love this Place and Trust them always. Gosh, I don't know how many years I've been with Winston Veterinary Hospital...I guess it goes back to my Flat-Coated Retriever, Rosebear! That had to be in the early ;90s. Since then the staff at Winston Veterinary has remained consistent--in their personnel as well as their expert, caring service. My doggies and kitties have all lived long, healthy, happy lives and I credit the care and advice I've received from this great team of medical and behavioral caregivers! Of special note is the full-circle support (physical and mental care) I've received in working with my rescue English Springer Spaniels, a very spirited, smart and sensitive breed. Dr. Hoffman is amazing. He has accurately diagnosed every condition my cats and dogs have been throug - and literally has x-ray hands. He can feel the size and shape of a tumor (we have had a number of them with our group), and I think he knows everything there is to know about animal medicine. I have taken our animals to a variety of vets over the years and he is without a doubt the best. He loves animals and spends as much time with you as you need to make an informed decision. On top of that, he lets you make the decision and doesn't push you into expensive procedures if they don't make sense. I have never used the boarding and grooming side commented on below (which is separate from the vet side from what I understand), but highly recommend Dr. Hoffman. Read Less

I have been using Winston Vet Hospital for over three years. The people there are the most wonderful and compassionate caring individuals I have ever had the pleasure to do business with. My dogs (all eight of them) have been treated, groomed, boarded and cared for by loving professional and caring individuals . I cannot say enough about this group of people who are all dedicated to the well fare of the animals placed in their care.Over the past month i have lost two of my dogs to old age and the way in which they were both treated by the doctors and staff at their end stage care made a difficult time easier for my babies and me. To begin with, the receptionist is extremely, extremely rude. No people skills whatsoever. When I called, I gave her a quick description of what was going on with my dog to see if it was really necessary to make an appointment. Usually the vets I've gone to in the past have very helpful receptionists that have helped me avoid the cost of a vet visit if it was an easy fix. She was really short with me and said I needed to come in. I waited for TWO HOURS past my appointment time to see the vet. Neither the staff nor the vet was even remotely apologetic about my wait time. He then was barely helpful and rambled on and on only to explain in a long-winded fashion that I really didn't need to come in at all. He did literally nothing for me. And the meds are either extremely overpriced there, or the vet has no idea what the med pricing is, because the quotes were outrageous. I'm a tolerant person. Even one apology for the extremely long wait and I probably would have let it slide. All that being said, the grooming services seem to be fine if you try to avoid talking with the receptionist.
