We had to take our dog to MedVet Akron, transferred her from VCA Great Lakes ER in Warrensville, Ohio. She had low blood sugar and needed to be on an IV dextrose drip overnight. VCA didn’t have a vet after 1:00 a.m. so they had us transport her to MedVet Akron. They charged us $3,000 before they even took her inside! We were not allowed inside because of Covid restrictions. They ended up keeping her overnight and the reports from the vet were that her prognosis was “grim” and they weren’t giving us hope that she would recover. He said he thought she had fluid in her abdomen, and was in kidney failure. I felt the vet was saying, without using the word, that we should euthanize our dog. We took her home the next day and have been following up with our specialty vet over the past couple of weeks. OUR vet ran the tests again. She is NOT in kidney failure, her liver is fine and no fluid in her abdomen upon examination. She IS a brittle diabetic and will be hard to control. We had another incidence of low blood sugar and again had to go to an emergency clinic, this time MedVet in Brookpark, which was a MUCH better experience and they did NOT charge us $3,000!!!! I’ve talked to friends who have taken their pets to MedVet Akron and had similar situations being overcharged and still having a sick pet when they left. I would never take a pet to MedVet Akron again!!! We suffered greatly, thinking all weekend that our dog was dying. And the charge of $3,000 was outrageous! I think someone needs to be held accountable for doing these sorts of things to vulnerable pet owners at a time that they are already distressed in an emergency situation. Read Less

I was very hesitant about taking my cat here based on reviews and reputation but had to choose between Medvet and Metropolitan and felt this was the lesser of two evils. I had a surprisingly positive experience. I waited quite a while to be seen but was triaged immediately and they repeatedly checked on my pet and apologized for the wait. Once in the room we were treated immediately. Their pricing is outrageous but there was no hard sell or unnecessary testing. The doctor (Dr. Quinn) was compassionate and knowledgeable. In the last 10 years, we have been here 3 times for emergencies involving our 2 cats. All three times involved emergency surgery. One for swallowing a foreign object, the other 2 for urinary blockages. Every time they have saved our furbabies lives!. Two days ago, we returned home from a 2 day vacation to find our cat Alex very sick and distressed with a urinary blockage. We rushed him to Medvet. They are very compassionate, we were never rushed with our questions and concerns, I called in the middle of the night to check on him and a person immediately answered and they gave us a full report! We were never nickeled and dimed like some people claim and I feel the price each time was reasonable. Is a few thousand dollars easy for me to afford for a cat surgery? Of course not! However the price is reasonable; the same procedures for a human would cost tens of thousands of dollars. Alex was treated very well and a day later, he is unblocked and home! We couldn't be happier to have our buddy back home this evening. . THANK YOU MedVet - Akron! Read Less

We unfortunately had to visit here a few days ago for an end of life situation with our cat. The vet, Dr. Laura Quinn, was everything you could want. Clear, to the point, but not cold. She didn't shame us for any of very hard choices we had to make. You could tell she wanted us to understand all the costs, chances of success, and other variables so that we could make the very best choice for us and our cat. We were seen immediately upon our arrival. Ultimately, we had to let our cat go, but left knowing it was the right choice and that we had everything we needed to know to make that choice. Read Less

When you have to go late in the evening, and your tired and full of anxiety about your precious pet , it really helps when these folks go out of their way to help you. Now this is not an inexpensive clinic. Unfortunately that is our biggest issue. I had to leave Murphy there over night so that was an expense, but they allowed me to call thru the night to check on him. Everyone was so kind, and I appreciated all they did. God bless them! We recently took our puppy to Akron Med Vet. It was the 2nd time we have had the unfortunate experience of this vet hospital. The first time is when we had to euthanize our family dog due to an injury. The vet, Dr Garr shamed us that we didn’t want to spend $13000 to fix the injury on our elderly dog. As we explained to her, he was already older, we knew the surgery had a very low success rate, and that we were looking at his quality of life. This vet was so rude, and shaming it made worse of an already heart breaking situation. I assumed she was just having a bad day and just shrugged it off as we said our final goodbyes. Most recently we had to bring our puppy in because he was sick. At first, they didn’t even want to see us because we did not have a form of payment since we left our wallets at home because we were sent in a rush to the ER. They spent 45 minutes just trying to get us to secure payment, even encouraging us to open some credit card even though we had no proof of identification. I explained this to her and she said, that was ok. We ended up going a different route thanks to family. They came and grabbed our puppy back into a treatment room which they did not allow us to come. Once they brought him back, we sat for quite some time before we talked to the vet. Who walks into the room, but Dr. Garr (the same vet who put our other dog to sleep). I tried to be open. Until 30 seconds in, the same attitude and nastiness, came out. She was dismissive, rude, and every time I asked her a question she would either roll her eyes, or acted inconvenienced I was asking her a question. She was pushing for a biopsy of our puppy for $2500 and even stated “luckily we have a cancellation and we can fit you in now.” I was blown away for pushing this since she wouldn’t even explain the diagnosis. When I stated I wanted to take these options back to my vet and discuss with him first, she started to get even more irritated. The whole entire time we spent with this vet, her voice got more and more raised as I asked questions to make sure this was the best option. She dismissed everything I had to say. Then when we were supposed to get our medications, it took an hour and 45 minutes to get becasuse she didn’t know that’s the route we were going despite us multiple times saying it was. The woman at the desk when we asked what was going on, while we were waiting for the script, kept saying she is writing it, when I asked her to check she said she didn’t have time. A minute later she is up talking about personal stuff with another co-worker and was showing her something on her phone. When I approached again, before I could even ask, she said I told you I was busy. I grabbed another employee who was walking around, and finally an hour later we received our script. This vet was abrasive, condescending, and lacked compassion. I guarantee you, I will NEVER step foot in this place again! If you want to be treated like you are garbage, and be around a team who doesn’t care about your pet, then take them here. Read Less

This place is horrible! There’s a ton of miscommunications or no communication at all. My dog had surgery there, had complications with breathing. After surgery I received a call that the surgery went “very well” and my dog was resting comfortably. I call at 930pm was told the same thing then again at 130, yet this time the lady on the phone seemed to not have a clue what was going on! I get a call at 745 am from the Dr saying my dog had a rough night and he may have to have a temporary trach. I was under the impression all night everything was going pretty well, BOY WAS I WRONG! Three days later he’s still in an oxygen cage, I was told if he could be weaned out of oxygen he could go home. I call this am and I’m told by the Dr that he needs to be sedated again he has become “barky” this is the second time he had to be sedated no one bothered to call and give an update as I was told they would. When and if my dog makes it out of there after thousands of dollars spent I will not be back! Employees are rude and seem inconvenienced when calling for updates. I can say the only person that was very helpful was Dr. Chas Mcbrien he called and gave updates even talked to me on speaker phone while I’m the middle of surgery! Cannot say enough nice things about this guy!!! Thank u Dr Mcbrien! Read Less

I have never been to this clinic and i will also never return. We called ahead to see how to deal with our emergency and they stated to come in and we would be taken back upon arrival to take care of the situation. Mind you we drove 25 minutes to get here. As we arrived and filled out paperwork in the lobby we were greeted by a man who did not even asses the wounds and we were left to sit with a bloody homemade bandages that needed changed for an over an hour and a half. I finally approached a girl at the counter and simply asked for some gauze and such to fix it myself as we continued to wait which initiated them to then take our dog back to change his bandages for us, which we appreciated, until out dog didn't returned and we were left for another 45 minutes wondering what was happening. The only reason we found anything out was because I again approached the desk and asked if they were handling the situation because he had been back there so long. With an attitude she said I have no clue I can go to find out. The result was us waiting another half an hour for them to tell us they were going to do a treatment THAT THEY DID NOT EVEN DO. They charged us $200 in bandages and triple antibiotic ointment and ER fees. The worst part is we were not the only ones there for hours on end. The couple to follow us in sat there completely unhelped for 4 hours with a yelping poor pup. I could not be more serious when i say they are the worst vet office of any sort I have ever been to. We were there 4 hours for them to do nothing productive and charge us $200. Read Less

The vet techs were extremely friendly and helpful and compassionate! If it wasn't for them, I would not have a single positive thing to say about my visit. As a matter of fact, I have waited to leave this review after a few days in order to be able to reflect on what I would like to say. While I am happy that these emergency services were available, I was not happy with the lack of empathy and compassion of Dr. Griffith (Griffin?). I've noticed a lot of reviews where people were expressing concern with the cost of services. While I agree that the prices are extremely high, I understand that with emergency services comes higher prices. It does not change the fact that several people have a difficult time spending hundreds to thousands of dollars, cash or credit, in a time of crisis. It did appear as if my family was rushed to make this decision and we were not supported by the veterinarian on duty. We made the decision to keep our pet comfortable and contact local vets to utilize the best option. Luckily, I was able to call off of work and schedule surgery with a wonderful Vet who completed the same surgery for 3,000 dollars less than what I was quoted by this business. It is extremely disheartening that my family felt that we were not willing to care for our pet due to questioning the cost of the services being rendered. While that may not have been her intentions, it certainly was gut wrenching to be told "it shouldn't be about saving money, it should be about caring for your pet." This implied to my family that you felt we could not afford to care for our pet. A patient has the right to question the necessity of services being rendered. Also, the vetrenarian on duty told us that someone "HAD" to call off of work in order to care for our pet in the morning or be prepared to say goodbye after we made the decision to contact other places. The vetrenarian already made it quite clear she would recommend surgery that night, in my opinion, it felt as if telling us we would potentially have to say goodbye was a last minute effort to get us to change our decision. I truly hope that the trend of these reviews enlightens your business to include additional trainings for your staff on customer service, compassion and empathy. In honor of my experience here, I have donated to a local non-profit organization to help other people with vet costs who are unable to fund an emergency service on their own. Read Less

My husbands cat got sick one day and we rushed her there. We called ahead and they waited for her and got someone to come grab her before we were fully in the door. Dr Quinn was so sweet and genuinely cared about Tinkerbell's well being. She gave us ALL of the information we needed about her conditions. She was patient and understanding. We unfortunately had to get her put down but only after all other options were discussed. I didn't once feel pressured to make that decision or any. The staff was caring and gave us as much time with her as we needed and were all incredibly sensitive to us during the hard time. Horrific! We took our extremely sick bulldog here after our vet recommended that we do. The wait was quick on a Friday afternoon but other than that nothing else was positive. We dealt with Dr. Garr whom at one point told us to put our two year old Bulldog down. The issue has been that for over a year our bulldog has had persistent vomiting. We have been to our own vet numerous times. Our dog was fine for two weeks while on meds that our vet prescribed. Once she went off she was back to vomiting. It was a Friday afternoon and my vet was closed so he suggested that we take her to one of the two Copley Emergency vet clinics. Unfortunately we picked the wrong one. I will go to Metropolitan from now on in case of an emergency. They did nothing more than what my vet did...blood work and x-rays. Found nothing. That is when it was suggested that we put her down. We declined and agreed to fluids under her skin and a shot for vomiting along with at home meds. While checking out, our Bulldog had a grand mal seizure from an anti vomiting shot they gave her then they tried to say it wasn't from that. She has never had a seizure ever and hasn't done it again since that time. They took her to the back and said she was stable but needed attention. So we made the decision to leave her there for the night because she needed round the clock medical care due to her illness and now the seizure and we didn't want to risk taking her home or somewhere else and something else happening because of them. They nickeled and dimed us. Said there was a foreign object and she would need to see an internal specialist for more x-rays, ultrasound (500.00) and possible scope. We declined due to this being the first that we heard there was something in her stomach. $1500.00 later and we were no further ahead. We went back to our vet yesterday and he had a specialist come in that diagnosed her with an ulcer. She is on meds for the ulcer and back to her old self at home. I would go to Metropolitan before this place ever again. Read Less

She asked if we wanted to speak with the CEO, we said "yes", and no one has bothered to call us to follow up on anything! Tonight my 17 pound shitzu consumed approximately 2 to 3 grapes. After looking on the internet and finding out they are poisonous to dogs, I panicked and started calling 24 hr. veterinary clinics in my area. The first one had a good rating and they did give me a phone number to call which came with a 65$ fee. I felt at that point they only cared about money. When I called this clinic they didn't hesitate to transfer me to a technician and get my dog the help she needed immediately and free of charge. I am so thankful for your help! My dog is my best friend and has been since my husband and I adopted her five years ago. I felt she needed immediate help and that's what she got when I called this clinic. The grapes are now out of her system and she is laying on my lap snoring. I wouldn't hesitate to go to this clinic in the future. Thank you! Read Less

Was referred to this place by my vet for the insertion of a feeding tube for my cat, as my vet did not do the procedure. Called to get price and was told that they themselves would have to do another ultra sound and blood work and a number of other items to make sure the cat really needed a feeding tube. So they clearly do not trust other vets or in my opinion hey simply want as much money from you as possible and don't really care about the care of pets. Only concern they have is how much money they can get from you. They never even acted like they would give me a quote over the phone. Completely disgusting way to run a business. Even have a website but nowhere on it are any prices listed. This to me suggests that they make them up as they go to get as much money as possible. These people are truly deplorable and greedy. They don't run unnecessary tests to run your bill up and are able to locate the problem and fix it. My only complaint is that they don't have routine vet exams because they are my absolute go-to place and the only facility I would ever leave my fur-family overnight.

Read Less

We brought our 6 yr. old golden retriever, Murphy in to see Dr. Crandell. He had to have a series of tests done concerning nose bleed outs. Everyone there was so kind to us and informative.

Read Less

Poor customer service.... Staff discussed Financials with parties other than ourselves when we made explicitly clear, both verbally AND written, that any of that type of info is only to be discussed with myself and my spouse. When we spoke with office manager, we were told "it's not a big deal". We, found it to be a big deal. She asked if we wanted to speak with the CEO, we said "yes", and no one has bothered to call us to follow up on anything! We also find it inappropriate that surgery costs and methods of payment are openly discussed with people standing at counter with a full waiting room! Where are the privacy standards? Where is the follow thru? Read Less

Will never recommend nor step foot in there office even if they are the last vet business in operation.Read Less

They don't run unnecessary tests to run your bill up and are able to locate the problem and fix it. My only complaint is that they don't have routine vet exams because they are my absolute go-to place and the only facility I would ever leave my fur-family overnight. Other routine vet clinics are a disappointment after using AVR because they really raise the expectations that others just can't compete with. :-) Read Less
