Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center

Akron, Ohio
General Info
Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center in Akron interprets pet behavior as a language communicated through tail position and movement patterns to serve households across Ohio. Exams initiate not through touch but through focused attention. Staff examine intricate micro-behaviors: detection of animal eye contact patterns combined with breathing responses to auditory stimuli and movement tendencies toward or away from motion. Care then unfolds in parts. The examination of a pet's skin, coat, and joints relies on observing its anchoring movements combined with leaning and stiffening behaviors. The emergence of trust signals triggers subsequent internal examinations of dental structures along with abdominal organs and cardiac patterns. Simultaneously, pet owners deliver contextual information about alterations in their daily routines and the emergence of new sounds to which their pets respond, including shifts in walking or feeding schedules. The Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center provides an array of services including early-life exams and diagnostics along with energy balance strategies and oral health planning while also offering age-related joint tracking and illness-specific mapping. Timeframes vary based on behavior. Certain appointments progress rapidly because consent signals emerge clearly. Some developmental processes unfold gradually across distinct phases allowing the animal to understand each step. Pets requiring recalibration can access designated quiet areas and pause zones before proceeding. The focus of post-visit care shifts towards household translation. Observe sleep patterns and watch for silent cues such as family withdrawal appetite loss or spatial guarding while reintroducing routines. Owners should monitor timing in addition to symptoms. At what time does restlessness make its appearance? During which segment of the day do hesitation levels reach their maximum? Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center assists Akron families along with those from nearby Ohio areas by treating pet behavior as a living signal which animals display through everyday pauses nudges and shifts instead of in crisis moments.

If I could give this place 0 Stars, I would. I took my guinea pig, Benson, here on Tuesday, May 29th to get a spot on his nose looked at. I had only gotten this little guy on May 7th and he must have gotten it from the pet store. The staff was pretty sure he just had a fungal infection so Dr. Lanz, along with one of the assistants, took him into the back room so they could take a swab of his infection and use a microscope to determine if he had mites. They were gone for approximately 10 minutes and the doctor said that he didn't see any mites in the sample he took. Because of this, we bought Benson an antifungal and started putting it on him nightly to treat it. On Saturday, June 2nd, he was acting not like himself. I took him downstairs and sat with him for an over an hour, at which time he had two seizures and passed away in my arms. We looked up why guinea pigs would have seizures and it said unless he had a brain injury (which he obviously didn't) the only other cause of a seizure would be mites. My mother and I are absolutely livid. We called and spoke with them this morning because we couldn't reach them on Monday. The only thing they said was how sorry they are and they would talk to the doctor. Something must be wrong because I don't see how they could take a sample of his infection and somehow did not see the mites. There is no doubt in my mind that this pet center does not nearly pay as much attention to things as they should. If you're looking for a new vet, please do not take your animals here and if you do, I certainly hope you have a better outcome because I would never want anyone to suffer through what my family and I went through. Dr. Tima was awful. We have seen her twice for my cat and once for my dog. With my dog, she immediately put him in a head lock and told us he was aggressive. My dog wouldn’t hurt a fly, and he didn’t do anything to her because he isn’t aggressive. My cat was also improperly handled. She grabbed her with two hands around her neck and forcefully shoved her legs back and forth for no apparent reason. She has also given us multiple medications that we told her haven’t solved our cat’s problems in the past, but she said we were just being “one sided” and that “we were wrong and to trust her”. Not happy at all. Dr. Horst was the only one who actually helped us at some point, but every time we say we want him, he isn’t there and we end up with Tima. Extremely aggravating to have a vet that can’t figure out why a cat is sneezing. They pulled a whole tooth and rooted around with her under anesthesia for a long time, and said they had solved the problem. Well guess what, she is sneezing again and I am so done. Finding a new vet. Awful experience. Read Less

I'm so disgusted with the experience I've had here. My dog was boarding here, got a gash to here paw and I was notified 30 minutes after which doesn't sound bad but they called me 3 minutes before closing. When I requested to pick her up immediately I could not. When I went in the next morning I got another story and found out My dog was given medications I did not approve of, and no one even told me they were prescribing one of the 2 meds. My dog limped and suffered alone from 8pm to 730 am the next morning. If they are not going to be there at least until 1030pm and come in at 5 am, why am I paying them to leave me dog alone all night......hurting and limping possibly in a dirty kennel. I'm just disgusted! I work as a nurse and if I cared for my patients that way, I wouldn't have a licenses. Think twice before you come here. Read Less

I am highly impressed with the staff at this vet. The staff is compassionate about your pet, but have your best interest in mind. They make the best ethical decision and offer very reasonable prices for services and do not just rip off customers like some other places. My one year old golden doodle had an intestinal blockage and they were able to get him in immediately. I called five other vets in the uniontown/ north canton area and they all turned us away because we had not visited before. Despite being new clients, Turkeyfoot took us immediately, without hesitation. He was in life saving surgery within an hour of my initial call. The doctors and nurse staff stayed AFTER HOURS ON A FRIDAY OF A HOLIDAY WEEKEND to help my pet. They are clearly passionate and dedicated and have the best interest of the animal in mind. Without their assertive action, knowledable/ dedicated staff, and great medical care, I may have lost a furry family member. I can confidently say you will get a fair, ethical price along with the best care and compassion for your pet. We called two emergency hospitals in the area to price check and they quoted us double the price. I am highly satisfied with this business. Read Less

I brought my cat to Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center for the first time this week. The kind staff here squeezed me in for a last minute appointment when my cat was seriously injured. After numerous bad experiences at an emergency vet, I felt like I was out of options for my cat when I decided to take a chance and call Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center. I am so glad I did!! I can€t begin to describe how well my cat was taken care of by everyone at the clinic, but especially by Dr. McCort. She went above and beyond, in more ways than one, and was very gracious and compassionate with us. She quite literally saved my cats life, as I am positive she would not have made it through the night without surgery. Dr. McCort treated my cat like her own, and my cat is lucky to have her. I will be transferring all my animals to Turkeyfoot Family Pet Center immediately. I have been to every vet in the area, and you will not find a better one, I promise! Thank you so very much to all of you!!! Read Less

My first experience here and for the most part it was nice visit. The vet tech were very nice and friendly. The vet at first came of very condescending which made me uncomfortable. I almost felt like I was being scolded at and he mention that he was not going to argue and I never once argues just ask I wanted to verify something with my breeder before getting it done you can tell the staff did not like that at all. While I understand there job is to provide the best recommendation at the end of the day I am the pets owner and should not be made to feel pressure are uncomfortable about the decision I make when it comes to my pet. I also heard them talking about me and my situation in the back which left me uncomfortable cause some trust issues . Everything was cleared up in the end and besides the few moments with that Vet and the wait I had to endure the visit was okay and the staff took good care of my buddy.Read Less

I have mixed feelings on this place. I felt they did great with my cat during his declaw/neuter, however with my older cat, I left our visit with an expensive bill, some pain meds for temporary relief but no antibiotic although there was evidence of an infection and with confusion over what the problem was. Too bad since this place is close to my house. I found a vet I like better 20 min away that I will continue to go to. Won't be going back.Read Less
