General Info
We welcome you and your pet to Amherst Animal Hospital. We offer a wide variety of services from basic physical wellness exams, vaccinations, dentals, laser therapy and surgeries: spay and neuters and other extensive procedures such as ophthalmic and orthopedic surgeries, just to name a few. We have been serving our community since 1955. As a result we have seen generations of families and generations of their pets, placing us in the treasured position of having a deep bond with our clients.

I just started taking my dog Dale here last saturday for his shots and a check up because they are closer to me than where I was taking my dog before. He was fine after everything Saturday, and then Sunday he was so bloated and could barely do anything, I woke up Monday morning and he had diarrhea and had pooped at least 12 times and was foaming and drooling at the mouth and kept throwing up. His gums were pale, clearly dehydrated. I called that morning around 8ish I had 11:20 appointment. They took his weight and then took us to our room, then another lady came in asking questions about what was going on, then she said she needed to take his temperature. She said she was taking him to the back and they would be right back, about 20ish minutes went by and that lady never returned, but instead Dr. Kristin did. She proceeded to tell me she gave him a shot of fluids and gave him another shot for nausea, and wanted to give him an oral medication which was like fortiflora, which we already have. First of all before even talking to me about anything, or coming in first and going over the details of what she was doing and why, the price of it.. or anything all, she went ahead and just gave my dog all this stuff and then said what she though it was. She didn't answer any of my questions and then just kinda sent me on my way. Now the next day he's not doing any better can't even walk around, scared to sit or lay down, gums are still pale. She refused to speak to me on the Phone, so I called other vets who had no problem getting a doctor on the phone to speak with me even though I had never been there. She then proceeded to have the lady at the front desk call to tell me I need to bring him back cause what they did yesterday didn't help, that she wants to charge me to have him checked again even though I had him in there yesterday, and that they wanna do blood work now. Why wasn't there better communication on tackling this issue when I brought him in the first time??? And didn't even go over anything with me before they gave him any kind of medication, or any other options... nothing. I read other reviews with same kinda of stuff. Save yourself some time and hassle of dealing with such a discourteous, unprofessional and shady animal hospital. Do not take your furry family here!!!

I took my dobby there to see the Vet and for boarding and grooming. The staff is friendly and the service is great and very reasonable. I would recommend to everyone who has a pet.

The best. Dr Kristin is a very caring Vet. We just love her and cannot see us taking my Lilly and Bruno (dogs) anywhere else. I also board my dogs here. Just love the staff.

I took my cat there when She was alive. I now have two Shitzhus and would never taken The anywhere else. Dr Kristen takes care of my Bruno and Lilly. The staff is fantastic not sure why there’s a few reviews that does not match any experience I have had there. The staff is very loving with any animals. I also board my dogs here and wouldn’t go any other place. Thank you for taking such good care of my animals and treating them like they are part of a family.

I have been taking my pets to Amherst Animal Hospital for almost 25 years. Yesterday, my dog was having what I thought was a seizure and NEEDED immediate medical attention (no previous bad medical history). When calling (in a panic), the receptionist said, without any concern, that they had no appointments... I explained we don't have time for setting up an appointment, this is life or death. After explaining more concern, the receptionist started to play middle man on the... phone and on the other side Dr. Kristen claimed there was absolutely nothing they could do. My head was so confused... nothing?! fluids, check up, medication, words of wisdom... anything in our time of need? nothing. Not even a "I hope the best for you" This vet Hospital has not only been our place to go in time of need, but it is also 5 minutes away from home. The last thing (really only thing) Dr. Kristen left us with was a recommendation to go out to a vet 30 minutes away. With reading the other comments, I am sad to hear this happens more than what I thought... however, not surprised AT ALL. Dr. Kristen's name is no longer a good one in my book. Honestly, I do not feel she is in this profession for the right reasons. We, as a whole family, will never be going back to this hospital. Thanks for the recommendation Dr. Kristen. See More

My family has been taking my animals to Amherst Animal Hospital for well over 40 years! Through the years we have seen Dr. Tom, Dr. Mark, and Dr. Kristin. I currently have 4 dogs and 2 cats that see Dr. Mark and/or Dr. Kristin. They have always been fantastic to us! Their staff is always friendly and helpful to us, and they don't hesitate to go the extra mile! As a professional dog trainer, I do not hesitate to recommend them to my clients!

Dr Kristen has seen our dog Paris for almost 3 years and our cat Laci pretty much since we have had her. We have never had and issues or concerns . The staff is wonderful and dr Kristin is great. They are on the expensive side but I would rather pay the extra money and have peace of mind than pay less money and worry about the health and well being of our babies. Laci goes in to get spayed in a few days and I have to say I am nervous but it helps ALOT knowing she will be in good hands!!! We moved to coshocton Ohio for 6 months and still made the drive as needed to see dr Kristen ( 2 1/2 hours one way) i honestly do NOT believe a single word of the bad reviews!! #justaGREATplace

It is unfortunate to see the negative comments about Amherst Animal Hospital we always found them to be very good with our pets. Our Brittany Spaniel, Molly was cared for for most of her extremely long life by these folks and they were never anything but professional and kind to her. We plan to take our new puppy to these folks whenever we are in town as well. I will let you know if anything has changed; we have an appointment today.

Unclean and show lack of compassion. Couldn't disinfect the place after treating a dog with parvo therefor exposing my friends dog who was loved by many to the virus and his dog passed away AFTER COMING IN ORGINALLY FOR A NAIL TRIMMING. If you want your animals to die over nail trimmings and other simple grooming procedures then be my guest and bring them there but I will not bring my animals here if this was the only place left to treat animals.

If you wanna bring your pets here and you want them to come home alive I would run far away from this place. A friend of mine recently brought in his dog/best friend the he has had for 6 years in for a nail trimming and due to their lack of cleanliness his dog was exposed to parvo and died and have yet to take responsibility for his dog getting in contact with the virus and have showed lack of compassion regarding him losing his beloved family member because ozzy (the dog) was way more than a pet. Now if you wanna bring your fur babies in for a simple grooming session and want them to suffer and die an early uncalled for death then yeah bring them here but if you love them and cherish them do not go here, spread the word and let others aware that their animals are not safe in the care of these monsters that couldn't disinfect the place after treating another dog with parvo.

Dr Kristen should not be able to dispense medications. My 4 year old newfie/lab mix died March 21, 2016 because Dr Kristen was deemed by the Ohio Vet Association as not following the "wash out" period...
Dr Kristen should not be able to dispense medications. My 4 year old newfie/lab mix died March 21, 2016 because Dr Kristen was deemed by the Ohio Vet Association as not following the "wash out" period when administering Temaril P while on Rimadyl. My baby bled to death for a simple ear infection. This doctor even wrote her another RX the same day she died. My pet never even got to take 1 of the antibiotics. What dog dies from a UTI and then an ear infection??!!! Dr Kristen didn't even do a single blood test the day she passed away, she just wrote the new RX and sent us on our way. I called back later that day to be told they were closing and go to the Lorain ER. That ER didn't have any of my pets records of the meds she was already on. Some of the meds they did not have experience with because they were "newer" drugs. The office manager is a joke as well. I even tried contacting Dr Mark, but could not get past her. This place cost me a couple thousand dollars and also by best friend!!!! Although a discipline was not issued, it will be taken into consideration should the board become aware of similar incidents.

Let me start by saying that Dr Mark and the rest of the hospital staff are great. However, I cannot say the same for Dr. Kristin Yacobozzi DVM, or their office manager. We took our dog there for almost 5 years, and our three cats for as long as we've owned them, one of which we adopted from there. The problems started when we boarded our dog there and he contracted kennel cough. I had to argue with the office manager and Dr. Kristin regarding who should pay for his medication. After that incident we stopped boarding him there and he never had problems afterward. Fast forward to 2016, and we took our dog in for grooming. They called us when he was done and we immediately went to pick him up. Keep in mind we only live 10 minutes away. When we arrived he was in their kennel. After 3-5 days, the typical incubation period, he showed clear signs of kennel cough. We called first thing on a Saturday morning. Dr. Kristin was on staff and Dr. Mark was out of town. She said he had a virus that may or may not be kennel cough and it could wait until Monday. We called another animal clinic where we board our dog and they were able to see our dog right away, diagnosed him with kennel cough, and prescribed medicine. So, my question for Dr. Kristin is, if it is just a virus, and no other dogs were reported as having kennel cough -- why has he not contracted kennel cough at his current boarding facility with hundreds of other dogs, yet only contracts it at Amherst Animal Hospital? I suspect it is because of the poor, unclean conditions of the kennels at Amherst Animal Hospital. After this latest incident we will never go back.

My 4 year old newfie/lab mix died March 21, 2016 because Dr Kristen was deemed by the Ohio Vet Association as not following the "wash out" period when administering Temaril P while on Rimadyl. My baby bled to death for a simple ear infection. This doctor even wrote her another RX the same day she died. My pet never even got to take 1 of the antibiotics. What dog dies from a UTI and then an ear infection??!!! Dr Kristen didn't even do a single blood test the day she passed away, she just wrote the new RX and sent us on our way. I called back later that day to be told they were closing and go to the Lorain ER. That ER didn't have any of my pets records of the meds she was already on. Some of the meds they did not have experience with because they were "newer" drugs. The office manager is a joke as well. I even tried contacting Dr Mark, but could not get past her. This place cost me a couple thousand dollars and also by best friend!!!! Although a discipline was not issued, it will be taken into consideration should the board become aware of similar incidents.

All the staff is incredible. I know Paris is in great hands. She's only seen Dr Mark once and he was great but we really like and trust Dr Kristen. Thank u all for all I do

Let me start by saying that Dr Mark and the rest of the hospital staff are great. However, I cannot say the same for Dr. Kristin Yacobozzi DVM, or their office manager. We took our dog there for almost 5 years, and our three cats for as long as we've owned them, one of which we adopted from there. The problems started when we boarded our dog there and he contracted kennel cough. I had to argue with the office manager and Dr. Kristin regarding who should pay for his medication. After that incident we stopped boarding him there and he never had problems afterward. Fast forward to 2016, and we took our dog in for grooming. They called us when he was done and we immediately went to pick him up. Keep in mind we only live 10 minutes away. When we arrived he was in their kennel. After 3-5 days, the typical incubation period, he showed clear signs of kennel cough. We called first thing on a Saturday morning. Dr. Kristin was on staff and Dr. Mark was out of town. She said he had a virus that may or may not be kennel cough and it could wait until Monday. We called another animal clinic where we board our dog and they were able to see our dog right away, diagnosed him with kennel cough, and prescribed medicine. So, my question for Dr. Kristin is, if it is just a virus, and no other dogs were reported as having kennel cough -- why has he not contracted kennel cough at his current boarding facility with hundreds of other dogs, yet only contracts it at Amherst Animal Hospital? I suspect it is because of the poor, unclean conditions of the kennels at Amherst Animal Hospital. After this latest incident we will never go back.
