ACOC was founded by Dr Ron Swartz in 1980 in a renovated ice cream shop (then located on Route 44). Dr Swartz moved the practice into a "modern" building he built at the current location the following year, where he practiced high quality veterinary medicine for the next two decades. In the late 1990s, Dr Swartz decided he was ready to slow down his busy pace and began his search for somebody to continue his legacy. In 2001 Dr Swartz chose to turn the reigns over to Drs. Tom and Wendy Frankmann. Drs. Tom and Wendy continued to build the practice around a strong belief in patient care and client service. The clinic was computerized and staff was expanded to include a trained and certified nursing staff. In 2008, Dr DeMarco joined the practice. It became increasingly challenging to practice modern medicine and grow in a small, aging medical facility….. Wendy and Tom drew upon many professionals in the veterinary field to create a state of the art medical facility to meet the needs of clients and pets and to offer an even wider array of services to the community....These dreams became a reality when the new ACOC facility opened its doors on August 13, 2012.

I can not thank everyone at the Chardon Animal Clinic enough. I brought my dog in in an “emergency” state, or at least it was to me, she had a cyst that burst and was bleeding and the staff was absolutely wonderful! They were responsive and put me at ease while taking great care of my dog. The vet explained exactly what they did and what they found in detail, even showing me pictures. They made sure I understood what to do when we got home and called a few hours later just to check in!
I should mention that I called our normal vet and they wouldn’t even see the dog until Monday. I called on a Friday... Chardon Animal Clinic did not hesitate to squeeze us in. For all the care we received, I believe they were reasonably priced as well.
We will definitely be going back. Thank you again! Read Less

If you are looking for comprehensive, quality, and exceptional care for your pet--- look no further. ACOC came highly recommended from many veterinarians that I know personally. Dr. Tom and his staff was beyond compassionate with my Spanish water dog. They are fear free certified. Having a breed that is cautious of strangers and new situations, they spent a great amount of time making her feel comfortable. Every veterinary situation needs this approach. We truly appreciate the positive experience that was provided for our dog. Most of all Dr. Tom was exceedingly knowledgeable. He remains current on all studies and behavioral aspects of animal husbandry and medicine. Our dog is facing some urinary challenges, he is working with us to come to full resolution, opposed to masking the problems with temporary prescription solution. We had some really bad care from some other practices, and it was pointed out to us that we should seek out an AHAA certified veterinary clinic as most clinics don't do all the extra things to get this certification. We have not been disappointed. The level of care they have shown our two dogs is fantastic. Most of the exams our boys have had were very quick exams, but not at this clinic. The doctors do a very length and extended exam and I am grateful for that with our boys getting up their in their years. We also have a cat and I like how they separate the waiting rooms for the cats so they don't get scared by the dogs. Not only is it separated, but there is a wall so they cats don't even see the dogs. One person commented on price.... yes, vets can be expensive, but they don't seem much different than some of the other vets we have gone to. I'm willing to pay a little extra to get high quality care for my animals. We also signed up for their preventative health program, so this helps take some of the bite out of the cost as well. This is a great feature to help us keep up with our pets care at a reasonable cost. I'm sure we will be coming here for a long time, even though it is a bit of a drive from Perry. Read Less

How can you limit our praise of your business to only five stars??? 8-) We've been bringing our cats and dogs to the Animal Clinic of Chardon for 20 years. Your depth of expertise and quality of care are unmatched. We have numerous examples, but space here is limited. Our timid Golden was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a long time ago, and was insulin dependent for 9+ years before cancer took her from us at 14 years old. That was a long life for a large genetically challenged breed *without* the added diabetes factor. Her longevity had everything to do with the quality of care you provided her, and we will be forever grateful to every one of you. Dr. Tom's stellar guidance through the years instilled in us, the courage and confidence to look specifically for (and adopt) another diabetic pup when the time came. We know that she too, will have a long healthy life and is in excellent hands. Thank you to everyone! Agh! no links are allowed here!?! Okay - Zoey covertly says "hi". I liked this clinic when we were seeing Dr. Tom. He was always very friendly and warm. At one of our routine visits, we saw Dr. Erin Ervine. Our cat had an adverse reaction to her rabies shot and had to be brought back for the evening. Dr. Ervine was very cold. She seemed to have no empathy for the situation. Instead, she lectured me about the importance of vaccination and averted my questions.
I understand that allergies or adverse reactions can happen but I was extremely disappointed with the way Dr. Ervine handled the situation. I would not feel comfortable bringing my pets to her. Stick with the other doctors. The assistants here are always warm and helpful (especially positive experiences with Jennifer and Kristine).
A word of caution to this practice; clients can hear dialogue from the back when they are waiting in the exam rooms and we heard one of the vet techs complaining before we were seen. Read Less

While my two dogs received good care here, I was shocked at this practice's prices. Ear infection swabs, stool sample testing, inoculations, office visit charges - all of it was much more expensive than I could afford. A CBC for my 10 pound dog was $101.96, and I had to wait two days for the results. I just came back from my first appointment at Big Creek Vet Hospital. As soon as I walked in, the staff couldn't have been nicer caring for my scared, shaking dog. I saw a wonderful, kind doctor who determined the problem in short order. Based on my experience with Animal Clinic of Chardon, I was expecting a $350-$500 bill. The charge for the CBC was just $35 and I got the results while in the office! All told, the office visit, blood work and eye ointment came to just $186. I was stunned. And the charge for next week's follow up visit with the doctor will be just $18! Read Less

While the facility and staff are top quality- I am hesitant about the value for what you pay at least when it comes to cats.I've tried going here with 2 different cats for resolve. After $500 on the first one they claimed nothing was wrong but she continued to have issues. On the second one, after $700 for 2 visits I was told I'd have to come back a 3rd time (pay more) just to have a simple question answered regarding long-term care and feeding based on the diagnosis already made.I figured it is my duty to inform others here. I am not sure if the rigidity is an attempt to be super duper thorough to cover their basis or a way to milk as much money as they can out of customers. My cat can't talk so I don't see the point in putting her through the stress of a 3rd appointment just to get a simple answer on feeding advice.Individual employees seem to have their hearts in the right place - so it may be management / bottom line issues bringing about the lack of flexibility/helpfulness ?? I like that they have a no declaw policy and a separate lobby for cats but I am on the fence as to whether to continue to get care here. The vet(s) are mostly kind/ seemingly good people but I am hesitant about their level of skill. I came up with 3 stars instead of 2 based on some of the positives mentioned above plus the fact that they raise funds to care for strays and other situations needing medical help. They also try to rehome cats in need... Read Less

I can tell you that this an amazing vet! The Dr's and staff are so courteous, friendly, and amazingly awesome with comforting your animal and does a very through job examining your pet! I have 5 dogs, moved to Chardon 2 years ago, my oldest dog got a nose bleed. I called 3 different places, Animal Clinic of Chardon was the only place that had warm and friendly staff calm me down and got Spice in immediately. Thanks to the Dr's and staff found that her liver levels were off. In my opinion they are the one's that helped spice live longer. ALSO, Spice has been suffering from ARTHRITIS in back legs and ANGER issues! I won't name Spice's old clinic but her new Dr here at Animal Clinic of Chardon got Spice on medication that works for her, now my 15 year old who use to just lay around is acting like a puppy now. We recently moved to the area and needed a local vet for our animals. We had been very happy with our previous vet and hoped that we could find a local clinic that could match the level of care and professionalism that we experienced with our last vet. We found that at ACOC. The facility is very well conceived with an entrance each for dogs and cats and the lobby is separated likewise. This is a great feature as it keeps my car from becoming stressed by strange dogs. Every thing is cleaned and well tended. The waiting area and clinic rooms are comfortable and the staff is top notch. I would recommend this office to everyone. Interesting fact: I over heard a gentleman telling the staff that he is driving 40 minutes to bring his animals here after moving as he could not find anyone near him that offers the same level of care. Read Less

I brought my ferret to see Dr Frankman - and he was beyond outstanding in his knowledge and handling of my ferret. He was right up there on recent medical developments & treatments for ferrets. Additionally, my ferret needed an implant, and he was the best I've seen in my 10 yrs to administer the implant. It was quick & efficient - therefore minimal pain for my ferret. The best - I'd recommend Dr Frankman to all. Read Less

They are wonderful! The front desk service is exceptional. They go out of their way to help me order food or to pick up other supplies. Dr. Tom got down on the floor to examine my cat so he could stay in his carrier where he felt safe. It was clear to me that my cat's health and well-being were his top priorities, and he spent considerable time talking with me about his care. Quite honestly, I was more than impressed. I was truly grateful.

We've been here about a dozen times for check-ups and vaccines for our dog and cats. We also had our senior cat's teeth cleaned. The vets, technicians and staff are awesome. They are patient, kind and full of information that they love to share. They are always eager to help. We have never felt rushed out the door and we have always been verbally given a huge amount of helpful information. We even get printed notes about our visit in at the end of our visit that contains to what was done and discussed. And to top it off, their prices are fair and reasonable. I always leave their feeling great. They really care. I appreciate all that they have done. Read Less

Read Less

I changed vet clinics to continue with Dr. Askew which is a wonderful decision. Milton (Pembroke Welsh corgi) was treated like he belonged to the Queen. The staff is extremely caring and thorough. Not one person wasn't welcoming. I don't think they are expensive considering the service you get. Everything is online and you can check all the lab reports and anything else you need. You are offered a great payment plan where you can spread out the vet expenses over the year. Much better to pay monthly than to pay a huge sum immediately. I highly recommend this practice. After having to change vets because of bad advice from another clinic, I thought I'd try them out. Dr DeMarco was kind and took great care to help us with a sick dog. She spent the time to reassure me that my dog would survive and get better. We had to go out of town and we took advantage of their boarding services. While our dog was there they kept up with his care. Meds, baths, exams etc. I was able to go and know he was being taken care of. As for the review that they are expensive I agree, but so far I'm very pleased, you get what you pay for Read Less

I know this review is long but I want anyone who really needs a good vet to look no further. I love my dogs, they are my children and I wouldn't take them anywhere else! Read Less

Spent nearly 5,000 dollars for repeat check ups for my male fixed cat that was spraying everything, including me. Having had no prior history of this it was very worrisome. Well 4 visits within a month cost us around 5 grand for the vet to continue to say our cat was just "stressed" out from the dogs and had bladder inflammation that's why he was spraying. We ended up giving the cat to a family member who took him to her vet and would you know he had 5 gallstones removed!!! Very expensive for a vet that has no idea what she's doing! Read Less
