Ohio Alleycat Resource Oar And Spay/Neuter Clinic

Cincinnati, Ohio
General Info
Ohio Alleycat Resource Oar And Spay/Neuter Clinic situated in Cincinnati provides veterinary visits that unfold like a sensory map by beginning at comfort entry points before progressing slowly into deeper diagnostic zones for pets throughout Ohio. Every session starts by establishing perimeter awareness through observing pets as they explore the environment, noting which areas they shun and how swiftly they adjust their movement speed. The clinic team initiates interaction by examining body-system cues starting with fur density and external touch tolerance then progresses to assess oral health joint range and abdominal flexibility. Owner observations are factored in with equal weight: recent stalling before stairs changes in how the animal sleeps or guards objects or shifts in interaction timing with household members. Ohio Alleycat Resource Oar And Spay/Neuter Clinic delivers intricate medical mapping which encompasses orthopedic planning alongside cardiovascular listening and hydration tracking as well as dermatological checks combined with immune calibration and energy-rest cycles. Procedures follow a structured organization that respects recovery time where even short diagnostic steps are divided to avoid cumulative stress. The animal's responses dictate adjustments to noise levels scent layering and personnel proximity across thresholds. Post-care recommendations depend on a pet's behavioral markers including the duration needed to reach baseline behaviors, their chosen refuge spots within the home, and the resumption or delay of social interactions. Assistance persists via recorded visual touchpoints and optional sensory behavior debriefs. Ohio Alleycat Resource Oar And Spay/Neuter Clinic delivers services to Cincinnati and surrounding Ohio areas by treating each visit as a movement-based journey where they interpret pet signals throughout every stage from check-in to each room visited and every posture and pause observed.

I gad my car neutered there. They were very kind and caring towards all the animals who came in that morning. Cost was awesome even with the additional services I added which they offer. If done on Monday thru Thursday, the cat stays overnight. My cat's surgery was done on Friday so I picked him up later in the afternoon. He was not traumatized by the experience so I feel that he received excellent care the entire time there. I would highly recommend this facility to everyone. Read Less

I recently started volunteering here. It is a wonderful organization. The building is clean, new-er and has a great setup for the cats. The cats are not in cages, but large open rooms with other cats that include a screened in porch, high shelves, and lots of space. It is wonderful. Everyone there really cares about the cats and wants to help them find great homes, plus help to control the cat population in the area with the Trap-Neuter-Release program. I want to start by saying the volunteers are very friendly and nice. The organization as a whole does an unbelievably poor job of documenting very critical information about the cats that are up for adoption, such as omitting information saying that certain cats MUST be adopted together and you can't take just one. The customer service is yet another disappointment to add. I was treated extremely poorly and even hung up on while inquiring about their cats. I question if they truly want their cats to be adopted or if they just want to be a sanctuary. Read Less

I'm giving them 2 stars because I think they do wonderful work and the low cost spay/neuter program is a great thing for people that cannot afford the cost at a vet. However, I think they need to better screen their volunteers that handle adoptions. I had an approved application to adopt it was told I could not adopt a "very young kitten," because I have children. This was insulting to me because I've owned a cat and I am perfectly capable of supervising my children with a kitten. I understand that accidents can happen but she doesn't know me, my kids or how carefully I watch my kids. By rejecting my application she was denying me a chance to provide a very loving and fun environment for that kitten. Not to mention the cat was over 3 months old so hardly a "very young," kitten. It honestly ticked me off and she wasn't nice about it either. Very robotic and unsympathetic. I wanted to give my oldest child the chance to grow up with a cat the way that I did. I had my cat for over 15 years and loved her so much. I don't think a volunteer has any place dictating my ability to care for s cat of my choice. To me, if everything else checks out on my application and the only issue is my children then she needs a reality check. Either way, I was able to get a kitten elsewhere and my kids LOVE HER and are very gentle and loving with her. So, in the end it's OAR's loss. OAR, give your adoption coordinator an ego check, thanks ! Read Less

I applied to adopt a kitten last week because my husband and I love cats and our beloved black cat died in September. The adoption specialist I spoke with on the phone rejected my application because our cat was in our yard and was killed by a neighbors dog. This was extremely tragic and painful for our family. The woman I spoke with was not sympathetic or apologetic when she told me she "doesn't feel comfortable adopting to that kind of environment."  I understand that OAR has an indoor cat policy, but the way the woman spoke on the phone felt like she was blaming me for my cats death. I ended that phone call feeling like a horrible cat parent. I'm not upset about the rejected adoption application, but the callous way she communicated it. A little kindness and understanding goes a long way. Read Less

I highly recommend OAR if you are looking for a cat (or 2) to adopt! My boyfriend and I ended up here on a whim; we had been wanting to adopt and finally decided to go look one Monday night. Of course, most shelters were closed, but OAR had adoption hours until 8 pm. We fell in love with a 5 month old kitten in the separate kitten area, so never made it to see the adult cats! The facility looked very nice though- floor to ceiling windows, lots of room, cat towers, toys, etc. The staff and volunteers were very helpful and we had the phone interview the next day, then picked up our kitten that evening. Of course, she had a sister who we decided at the last minute couldn't be left behind. OAR always offers "2 for 1" adoptions, which is a great idea. Our kittens are happy and healthy and we were very fortunate to find out about OAR!! Read Less

I have been volunteering at OAR for about a year now on the adoption hosting, fundraising, and cat care teams, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization. If you are looking for a cat to adopt: go here! My cat is not an OAR kitty, but she is a shelter cat, so I greatly appreciate OAR's mission and the compassionate care that the staff and volunteers provide to the animals in the shelter. These cats may not forever homes, but they live better than many cats with permanent homes do, and they are lucky to be at OAR!OAR is a cat oasis. The shelter itself is large, with six big rooms filled with happy cats of all ages. The rooms are bright, spacious, and filled with cat toys. Most of the rooms are attached to a screened in porch so that the cats can experience natural light and air. OAR has also a second location at the Oakley PetSmart which houses 6-10 cats who are "on tour"-- this space has large cages and usually is home to kittens who love being at PetSmart and don't need as much space to roam around (they are always let out for some exercise at the end of the day!). The shelter and the Petsmart location are cleaned daily by an experienced and well-trained volunteer staff. The cats are cared for by a veterinarian, vet tech, and a volunteer "medical team" that keep them healthy. OAR's daily operations are very smooth, consistent, and many of the staff and volunteers have been there for over a decade. Maybe this doesn't need to be said, but as a result of OAR's wonderful operation, OAR cats are some of the best cats. These are great cats who are ready for homes. The cats themselves are played with and exposed to humans daily in order to make sure they are properly socialized. They are fully vaccinated, spayed and neutered, and separated from other cats when they are ill. They are exposed to children who come into visit them. The staff and volunteers also know the cats' personalities so well and can match them with potential adopters. Adopting an OAR cat usually means getting a friend for life. Read Less

Ohio Alleycat Resource is a firm believer in TNR (trap, neuter and return).  We have had 2 of our 9 rescue cats neutered by OAR.  We are not opposed to cats (we have 9 rescue cats and 1 rescue dog), but we are opposed to the TNR concept.  With TNR, the cat is spayed or neutered and returned to the area in which it was found.  As I see it, the huge problem with TNR is that the cats are left to fend for themselves after they are released.  If no one is feeding the cat, as is usually the case, the cat will kill native songbirds and other small mammals, often by the thousands, over the lifetime of the cat.  TNR cats are also exposed to the risks of all cats that are allowed to roam: disease, fights, being hit by cars, being shot at, poisoned, etc.  Since March 2015, we have had a cat in our neighborhood that kills at least 5 songbirds per day in our 1/8 acre yard.  The population of cardinals, mourning doves, blue jays and woodpeckers, all ground feeders, has been particularly devastated by this cat.  Every bird's nest has been pulled from the trees and no nestlings have survived this year due to the cat hunting all the birds.  The cat has also killed voles, chipmunks and other small mammals on our property.  The cat is very thin and unhealthy looking.  We cannot take in any more cats; we have too many already.  We have built our rescue cats two large screenhouses, but we still have too many cats in 1400 square feet of home and cannot take in more. I do not allow any of our cats to roam.  In an effort to stop all the bird killing and the spraying of our screenhouses by roaming cats, we have spent over $1000 trying to keep cats out of our yard.  We have chicken wire fencing around the entire yard, which is topped by netting and hawthorn branches zip-tied to the top and placed at the bottom of all fencing.  We have 2 scarecrow sprinklers.  We have laid chicken wire on the ground all the way around the fencing.  The chicken wire is covered with the peels of oranges and lemons.  STILL, the cat is able to get into our yard many times per day to kill despite all the barriers. After trying to trap this cat since April, we finally successfully trapped it at 9pm on Thursday, August 13.  We took it to the SPCA as soon as they opened at noon on Friday, August 14.  I felt terrible to have to take a cat to the SPCA, but I do not believe saving the life of one cat is a fair trade-off to the hundreds of native songbirds and other mammals that are killed by this cat.  The very next day, I found the feathers of 2 cardinals and 3 mourning doves in our yard.  These were clearly fresh kills.  I was shocked to find these new kills because the only cat that was killing in our yard was the one we took to the SPCA.I called the SPCA and found that they released the cat to Ohio Alleycat Resource the day we brought it in.  The cat had a tipped ear and had already been spayed or neutered.  The SPCA recorded that the cat was about a year old and weighed 5 pounds, clearly an undernourished cat.  The SPCA said that OAR took the cat back to our home that afternoon and released it into our front yard.  As long as the cat has been spayed or neutered, this is their policy.  I had no idea such an agreement existed between the SPCA and OAR.  We are right back where we started in April, but now we have a likely trap-shy cat and nowhere to take it if we are able to trap it again.  I completely disagree with this policy of both OAR and the SPCA.  They are not doing justice to either the cat or the native wildlife population. Ohio Alleycat Resource is the cleanest, brightest, cheeriest, most well-run animal shelter I have ever been to in my life.  And I have been to many of them, I've been a cat owner all my life going way back to when I was a little girl, and have adopted many cats over the years from shelters as well as oftentimes just visiting a shelter to bring some cheer to the resident cats while contemplating what I would do "if I won the lottery" (buy a really big house, hire a full time litter box cleaning and support staff, and provide a home for many cats). Most of the adoptable cats are housed in big communal rooms, with climbing gyms, platforms, cat doors to enclosed outdoor space, secure areas for those who want to be alone, plus plenty of food/water and enough litterboxes for all.  The cleanliness of these spaces is amazing.  Kittens and some more challenging cats live in large cages, also within spacious rooms.  The staff and volunteers do an incredible job, and if you love cats, you'll want to stop around here for a visit and maybe to offer some support. As the name implies, this shelter & spay/neuter clinic is exclusively for CATS.  Needless to say, this is a NO-KILL shelter. It is truly a "Resource" because in addition to adoptions, spay/neuter and basic veterinary services (tests & vaccines) are available at very reasonable prices.  So if the high cost of vet care was an obstacle to cat ownership, you can now overcome that obstacle.   They have connections to help you find even further discounted prices if possible -- and, if you want to help cats in general, they will neuter any stray/feral/alley cat you trap and bring in, for FREE.  (You then pick up the cat and return him to his outdoor environment.)  The "Neuterville Express" transport is available to pick cats up to bring them in for the surgery, if you live far from the shelter. This applies to the street cats as well as to your own pets.  They will lend you a humane trap to bring in the alley cats at no cost (just a security deposit). If all that's not enough, this wonderful cat center hosts special events throughout the year such as the Valentine's party, Halloween party (a/k/a the Black Cat Bash), Christmas party, and the spring Kitten Shower.   You can come and enjoy snacks and drinks, support the shelter through purchase of raffle tickets for fun prizes and even split-the-pot or by purchasing some goodies from the shop, including many fine gifts for cats and their humans. And all this surrounded by cats and cat lovers! There are also periodic gatherings at restaurants who have agreed to donate a portion of the evening's sales to the shelter.  If this sounds like fun, look for them on Facebook or search on their cool Meetup group "The Blue Cat Social Club."If you're looking to bring one or more cats (or one more cat) into your life, this is where you want to go.  Meow! I heard about OAR from a friend.  I was not in the market for any pets when my daughter found 2 baby kittens. We rescued them and I was planning on taking them to the shelter.  I have crazy allergies and know nothing about cats so the thought of keeping them was tempting but not logical.  I called OAR and they were full but very helpful in helping me navigate what to do next.  I called them the next day asking about vaccinations and neutering and just costs in general (seriously had a car repair i needed to pay for and was buying a house when all this happened) so being frugal with our new pets was a priority.  They provided me with great info, connected me with an organization that provides stipends for having animals spayed/neutered and bonus, they provide shots and other stuff at discounted costs while the cats are having their surgery.  When I took the cats in, I asked the staff if there was any way I could pick them up the same day so I wouldn't be late to work 2 days in a row(rather than the next morning as was the standard).  They were totally understanding and accommodating and I picked up the kitties that evening.  They were patient with all my questions and not pushy.  Such a great organization.  I recommend them if you're looking for a pet, need to help a stray or to support the community financially or by fostering an animal.  Glad to support the work they're doing and to have 2 cute healthy little kitties in our house! What a great resource for local animal lovers and pet owners!  I volunteered with a canine rescue organization that is located in a more rural area.  We had some feral cats in a barn on the property that needed to be spayed and neutered but we had to catch them first.  I stopped in at OAR since I knew they loaned out traps.  Kevin, a volunteer, is one of the trapping experts and fortunately he was there that day.  I'd never trapped a cat before and Kevin has a wealth of knowledge on the subject.   I explained the situation and he was very kind and spent a lot of time breaking down the art and science of cat trapping.  He set me up with a few loaner traps (you have to give them a deposit which you get back after returning the traps) and using his advice we were able to trap all but one of the cats and get them fixed at a nearby vet!OAR also has a great low cost spay/neuter clinic.  I know the vets and some of the staff and they are first rate!  Their prices are great, they care about the animals, and they do high-quality surgery. Ohio Alleycat Resource Oar And Spay/Neuter Clinic

Cincinnati, Ohio
(38)
5619 Orlando Pl
Cincinnati Ohio 45227
