Stay away! They just want your money. My dog was hit by a car and I have been doing routine bandage changes for 5 days at my vet costing me $33 each day. I came to Columbus for the week and wanted to continue getting them changed, the first visit they charged $177 to check him even though he has been at the vet 5 days in a row prior when I did not realize this at the time I thought it was $77. we went back the next day and had them changed again. at this time i asked them about the prior day bill and asked to see todays as well. The second day was $60 (remember was $33 before) when I asked why they told me it wasn't routine and they had to fit me inbetween appointment so they charged me $38 for a doc call. When I reminded them that I had a scheduled appointment (not just for today but every day until saturday) and asked them to take some things off the bill they told me to wait and they needed to talk to the owner. The lady then came back and agreed to take $50 off my bill.....BUT NEVER COME BACK!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I will gladly never step foot in this door, what a joke. I paid them a total of $200 when it would have cost me $66 and then they asked me never to come back! Are you kidding me! Read Less

Reception and staff is very friendly but when I went in for the first time as someone that just moved to the area, I only needed yearly vaccines for my dog, they quoted me over $500 in procedures and tests they recommended simply because I was a new patient.. It was very overwhelming and I wanted to do research to see if the suggestions were necessary for my healthy dog. I was going to be charged another $50 office visit since I didn’t have any vaccines done or anything for that first day. I later came back to get the vaccines done and the vet that saw us acted like she was terrified of giving my calm and relaxed pit the vaccines.. (I work very hard to make sure my dog is not a stereotype) The vet kept jerking and flenching if my dog would make the slightest movement which in turn made my dog increasingly uneasy and uncomfortable. A vet office can be stressful for animals. I feel like a vet should do everything in their power to make a visit a positive experience for their clients to help reduce any sort of stress levels. This visit made my dog stressed because of the behavior of the vet. Overall a discouraging experience. Go here if you enjoy waiting for 30 minutes past your appointment time, seeing completely different technicians/vets every visit, and having your generally passive dog refused to be examined unless you pay for a sedative.I've been going here for several years -- it's changed. So grateful to Dr. Sara Kubera Janet and all the staff GV Vet Hospital for getting my dog Moose in Tuesday morning within the same hour I called. We recently moved back to Columbus and hadn't established with a vet. Mr. Moose woke up unable to use his back legs. Scary!! Everyone was so kind, caring and informative. I suspect Dr. Kubera of being a dog whisperer since Moose was wobbly but walking before we left office. Not out of the woods completely but I'm positive he's in the right hands at German Village Veterinary Hospital! I had to take my cat of 16 years to the closest pet hospital a week and a half ago. We found this hospital online and read the reviews prior to calling. I called and they let us come, even though they were booked and were closing very soon. When we arrived, the staff could not have been more helpful and caring. The veterinarian, Dr. Devon Horne, was absolutely wonderful. We ultimately had to put Teka down, it was her time, but Devon and her staff made the process extremely smooth and were very patient as we said our final goodbyes. That meant the world to me since she was my first and only pet. I wanted to write this review because these prior reviews are the reason we chose this pet hospital. I love this practice. My cats have been coming here for years. I just got a new dog, and tried taking her to a vet more convenient to home, but didn't feel like he was truly thorough. Decided to get a second opinion at German Village, and they diagnosed an ear infection that the other vet missed. They're doing a complete workup, which the other vet didn't even offer, and answered all my questions without making me feel rushed or stupid. This was the first vet unused in Columbus for our dog and I was less than impressed. The staff was friendly, but I always felt all the staff and vet wanted to do was milk me for every cent they could. I had taken our newly adopted pup there to get her shots and the charges the exam fee, which is to be expected. When I want back two weeks later for the booster, they were just administering the shot and wanted to charge another exam fee. I literally heard bother guy in another room yelling at them for the exact same thing. I decided to move on after this visit and have been happy since. I spend a fortune to make sure my dog is spoiled and well taken care of, but I don't need a vet trying to milk me for an extra $30-$50 for no reason. Read Less

My family and I came here yesterday to put our 19.5 year old dog Lacy down. I have had Lacy since I was 6 years old. The Veterinarian and all of the staff were extremely professional and compassionate. They let us know everything we needed to know before it was done so we knew what to expect. The process went smoother than I ever could have hoped for. Lacy just comfortably fell asleep and did not appear to be in pain whatsoever. A very positive experience in an otherwise sad life event. I have been taking my 2 dogs here for 2 years. I like the business and the staff. They have been nothing but nice to me and they seem to be really attentive my my pups. The reason I will no longer be returning and my issue in general with them is the prices they charge. To take both dogs and get their yearly shots was over $700, which is just insane to me. This year I had their yearly shots done elsewhere and still wanted to come in for a check-up just to make sure they were in good health. Even without any shots the bill was still $230. The office policy says that they will not refill your heartworm medication without a blood and fecal test (both of which run about $20-30 each) and since my dogs already had their shots they charged me for a non-routine visit at about $50 a dog. They also seem to be pushing various "new" heartworm or flea medication every time I am there. Sadly, I will not be returning to this vet. Read Less

My cat has had a usual infection that started in his eye. They have gone out of their way and been been very reasonable to try and get this better. German Village Vet has been a nice practice. They seem pleasant enough, and very attentive to the animals they care for. I brought my pup in with kennel cough, and they gave him medicine, and after two weeks he needed to be looked at again and retreated after the illness didn't recede. I can't blame the vet for failing to properly cure the condition to begin with, however, I do feel the prices they charged were a bit exorbitant. For instance, $30 for a cough suppressant that was really not much different than a low dose of the same guaifenesin that you buy for $5 at the store. But they have to make their money somehow. Well.. although it was on bad circumstances that I had to call them, I had a very good experience throughout the process!We had a stray cat.... An indoor cat that we thought had gotten lost. We took her as our own and left her as an outdoor cat. We have two dogs, so to have another pet in the house, was not fitting. She was at our house for over 2 months and one day, she disappeared and did not return for 24 hours.Unfortunately, when she made it back she had gotten her back legs caught in something... if not attacked. As caught off guard and panicky as I was when I called them. They let me know my options and what they could do for the cat. My husband had taken one of our dogs here prior, and they are so close, that I knew calling them was my starting point.We ended up taking her there to be examined and unfortunately there was not anything we could do to save her due to it being so severe. The German Village Vet, put her down for free since she was a stray cat. They were beyond helpful, understanding, and I couldn't have asked for more help in this dreadful experience with Miss Kitty. Like many others, I have nothing but good things to say about GVVH.My wife and I were looking at possible homes in the Merion Village area when we found a stray kitten in distress. The little girl was clearly ill, covered in fleas, and nearly starved to death. We had passed the GVVH while we were walking, so we picked her up and ran up the street.When we came in through their "Cat Entrance", the receptionist listened to our explanation and was able to get us in to see the vet immediately. Dr. Burdick gave the kitten a complete exam, gave her de-worming medication, helped us clean her up, and provided a week's worth of rescue food. All in all, it did cost us some money to get her taken care of, but the prices were reasonable and were well explained for us to approve before they began treatment.Now we have a tiny little bundle of fluff who is recovering nicely, and a new vet we plan to visit regularly once we find a place to live nearby! I have been very happy with German Village Veterinary Hospital. I have 2 dogs and they get great care at the vet. They are flexible too. They are always willing to get me in, especially if something is going on with my pets that needs to be addressed right away. As far as their prices, I don't really have a problem with them. They are comparable to other vets I have been to. I know that pets are expensive and I am willing to pay for them because they are worth it. I'm not willing to sacrifice quality for cheap service. The prices are comparable to other hospitals in the area. The service is top notch. The staff made me and my guy feel right at home. I am happy to say that this will be my vet for years to come. as for the ""crazy expensive"" comment. I couldn't believe my bill. I've had cats my whole life and this place is 3 times more expensive than any place I've gone. My cat got a kitten booster, neuter, front declaw, microchipped, and flea meds. Yes, it is a lot of services but nothing out of the ordinary. This was a follow-up appt. He is an established patient. $616.02 - that is crazy! I would say shame on me if the bill was $300. I say shame on them for a bill over $600. That is totally insane. Read Less

German Village Animal Hospital is not very animal friendly at all. New to the area, we looked up vets nearby and found this one. My cat had her shots and was fine, but when it came time to get her spayed- the nightmare for my kitty started. I expected some discomfort for her after the surgery, but not the agonizing pain that was evident after. I could not take the cries and moaning anymore! So I called asking them to prescribe a mild painkiller for my cat that was in MAJOR distress and they said that they were not an office that prescribed pain medicine for an animal- that is ABSURD! Who would not prescribe painkillers for a cat in pain! Where the incision was, she now has an area that almost feels like a large hole under her skin. Ever since then, she can not travel in the car because she gets sick instantly, defecates on herself, and starts to cry and foam at the mouth. This was over 2 years ago, but I would think seriously if you love your animal! Read Less
