I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Adam Parson and his staff at Northstar Animal Care. In December we brought our 3 year old GSD with a torn up rear knee to him. Dr. Parson evaluated the injury and agreed to perform a Tightrope procedure on the knee. Every single step from the initial consultation to the final checkup and review was professional and courteous. They *cared* about my dog and about my ability to rehab the injured knee. The surgery was very successful as was the recovery. I recommend Dr. Parson and this business without reservation. Read Less

I took my 3 yr old GSD with a torn up rear knee to Dr. Adam Parson in December. After a thorough exam, Dr. Parson agreed to perform Tightrope on my dog even though she was larger than normal for that procedure. He was very patient and caring and answered all of my questions without making me feel stupid or like I was inconveniencing him. (I had lots of questions). Everything from the initial consultation to the final rehab review went like clockwork and was top notch. Every single charge was spelled out up front and there were absolutely no surprises. The staff was wonderful to work with and from start to finish I knew they *cared* about my dog and wanted the best for both of us. I recommend this practice and this vet without reservations. My cat had an injury that required bandage changes on her leg, and had been taking her to OSU's vet. I had been told by the people at OSU that it would be much less expensive to take her to a local vet and decided to try this place. The total costs to change her bandage at OSU had been under $50, including sedation, but the vet here wanted to charge $125 to change the bandage with sedation. Not including the $50 initial "physical exam" fee  which was basically me signing a piece of paper.  Absolutely ridiculous. I will not be taking my cat back here and I discourage anyone from going here unless you want robbed. Read Less

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Adam and Joanna Parson and their entire staff. My pup came down with a case of kennel cough- I knew that's what it was seeing as she experienced similar symptoms before. So I called over to the vet and they gladly put her back on an antibiotic she had been previously on when she had it.I greatly appreciated that they didn't make me bring her in and get her checked for what we probably already knew it was. Not that they brush off a dog being sick, but they allowed me to make the judgement call on my pet. And, anytime I have a question or issue and call in- they are always very quick to return my calls and talk to me about my concern about my pup. And it's always the doctor that calls me- not an aide (no offense to them, they are great too!) Also during my dogs check ups, Dr. Joanna Parson sits on the floor with her while she examines my pup. I don't know why that resonates with me, I just thought it made my dogs appointment seem more personal. They understand how to treat clients, and they are two of the nicest people. I highly recommend this place to bring your animals to for their care. Never have I been disappointed with them! Read Less

Our first visit at the 5th ave location was yesterday morning. I have seen the building many times in passing and was looking for a place to take my new pup. Based on other reviews, I chose to make an appointment here. I've been to other animal hospitals in the past, but this one is definitely the best yet. The woman at the desk was very friendly, helpful, and kind. When we got situated into our room, I noticed they had a dry erase board that said "Welcome" with all of the pets names, including my new puppy! The tech, Jen, and Dr. Kirby were very easy going. I adopted my dog from the shelter and he has been timid around strangers. They sat with him on the floor while they did his exam. They were very open to questions and addressed everything I had mentioned over the phone when I first made the appt. Really happy with the entire experience! Highly recommend. Read Less

Offering the right advice, the right tests, and the right treatments has made all the difference in her life. Ashley Anthony, a veterinarian assistant, was incredibly sweet and loving towards my kitty when they kept her for a few hours for tests. I left knowing she was in good hands. As a medical professional for nearly forty years, with past experience as both a Healthcare Administrator and medical auditor, I have come to recognize best medical practices and poor medical practices and have found these principles can also be applied to the evaluation of veterinarian care.During the past two years I have been diligently searching for replacement veterinarian services to ensure continuity of care following the semi-retirement of our family vet. Unfortunately this has been met with disappointment and disbelief at the dirty facilities, lack of empathy and professionalism, lack of innovation and over-pricing for services rendered. Last month my seven-year old wire terrier, Piper, was found to have a suspicious lump near the anal gland by his groomer who referred me to a local vet. Following a ten-minute exam and a 100.00 bill I was told it appeared to be a tumor for which there was nothing they could do, but suggested I contact OSU or a Med Vet for removal. Devasted, I began to network with friends and family about various facilities and decided to make an appointment with Dr. Joanna Parson and Dr. Adam Parson for a consultation. Upon arrival I started to critically evaluate their services and found the factilities to be extremely clean, well-organized, state of the art techniques including access to electronic pet records, ease of parking, limited wait time, sincere, knowledgeable and professional staff and fees for service that are comparable or less than other practices.Dr. Joanna Parson, who specializes in internal medicine gave Piper a complete physical and thoroughly explained the situation and possible outcomes. Dr. Adam Parson performed Piper's surgery the following week, providing me regular and timely communication throughout the process along with comprehensive follow-up care. This is a stellar veterinarian practice and fully exceeded my expectations! Both doctors are knowedgeable and professional with a "down to earth" and humble approach to dealing with animals and their families. I look forward to our next visit!  Sincerely,Karen S. I seem to be the only person in Columbus who had a terrible experience at this vet. I had a foster with anxiety issues who wasn't eating after a stressful move. Adam Parsons said he had never heard of such a thing. Umm try Google, Doc. Months later,  My other dog was having bum issues. Joanna Parsons thoroughly checked him out, gave me antibiotics, and off I went. Less than 24 hours later, he still seemed quite uncomfortable, so Adam Parsons asked me to bring him in. Specifically told me not to use any sort of spray or ointment as it would irritate him. He checked him again. And I was charged for a follow up visit. It was 12 hours later, and he never said anything about another full exam. His wife had examined my dog the day before! Not too pleased about this, and voiced my displeasure. Day three and my lil guy still uncomfortable. I was asked to bring him in again! For another charge! Really, both docs checked him out! Are you really so unsure of your abilities that you think you missed something the first and second exams of his poor anus? Staff was jaw droppingly rude and snotty to me. Took him to a different vet. The solution? A soothing spray. He was fine in twenty minutes after all of that suffering.Yes, this husband and wife team is oh so charming. Just be ok with being gauged for every penny, treated rudely if you dare question anything, and a snotty staff. Read Less

My two rotund, elderly felines just had their first appointment with Dr. Parsons and I can't say enough good things about him and his staff. The vet tech was fantastic with my cats and managed to put them at relative ease. And Dr. Parsons was similarly great. He took the time to pet my cats before examining them to calm them down, rather than just poke and prod at them out of the cage like some doctors. I feel that they got a very thorough exam as a result. I'm new to the area and I chose Northstar based on the previous Yelp reviews, and I'm glad I did! My dog was attacked on the weekend and apparently Mondays are pretty booked with surgeries but they were able to get him right in. The staff is great and friendly, and were very accommodating of us getting stranded and extending our boarding time a few days, also the boarding cost is very reasonable (~$20/day). The only issue we had was that we got conflicting information over the phone. Our puppy is still pretty new to boarding and this was the longest we've ever left her. We called regularly to see how she was doing. On the paperwork we got back it said "she plays great with other dogs", but when we called, we were told she was being aggressive. We also noticed her behavior had changed a bit for the worse after we returned, so I'm not sure how much time she was getting out of the crate, or if she maybe was over-stressed.The last thing is that they left the harness on our puppy when they crated her (against our instruction). The harness was chewed through and destroyed, but they addressed this by comping a night's boarding, which covered the cost of a new harness. We definitely have some work to do with our dog (a herding breed, so super active as a puppy) to work with other dogs and people, but we'll definitely try Northstar again for some shorter trips. At my first I thought North Star was great.  It was close to where I live and they were very nice the first time I brought my dog there.  However, after several visits I quickly learned that this was not the vet for me or anyone who does not have thousands of extra dollars or a brain.Dr. Adam Parsons seems to only care about high dollar procedures and gives little care to the patient and the owners.  After taking my dog in for some rear leg issues he claimed my dog would need a very expensive surgery and that was the end of the discussion.  This was very upsetting and I assumed I would have to find the means to pay for an extensive surgery.I decided to seek a second opinion and ended up finding a wonderful vet that ruled out surgery and took the time to listen and get to know my pet before making ridiculous treatment options.North Star lacks the professionalism their high priced procedures demand.  I would never recommend them to anyone who loves their pet and wants options and a pleasant experience. My first visit to Northstar Animal Care was awesome. I feel obligated to mention that one of the receptionists is a personal friend, but that doesn't bias my experience. Aside from doing Dexter's intake and playing with him a bit, I didn't get to see much of her. I admit this was the first time I'd taken Dexter to the vet since getting him back in September. I went because I thought his rabies vaccine had expired. Turns out I was wrong; he's good there, but he did need several other shots updated. The staff members were very courteous and friendly, both to me and Dexter. The highlight of my visit was most definitely Dr. Parsons giving my big ole guy his exam. Turns out Dexter has an ear infection. Dr. Parsons said he worked for a Bull Mastiff rescue when he was younger so he was really excited to see Dexter (a Dogue de Bordeaux). Watching him wrangle Dexter and put this ear medicine in, and swish and squish it around in there, all the while giving me a tutorial so I could do it at home, was hilarious. Dexter would stop to flap his head around, slobber was flying everywhere, and Dr. Parsons seemed to be having a blast with it. He commented "we sure broke this room in." He was also dressed pretty darn sharp. He must go through several handfuls of ties a year given the nature of the work.I spent several hundred dollars more than I was expecting, but that's only because I didn't realize he'd be getting a full annual check-up, something he definitely needed. I shouldn't have to spend another buck until his next heart medicine refill in 6 months.I've noticed a trend in vet reviews on yelp that people tend to start with a five star review, then update months later with a two star after a bad experience. I'm aware this was only one visit. I can't truthfully say if this was "as good as it gets" as Dexter is my first non-childhood pet.  If things continue to go well, I would certainly update with a five. Read Less

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Adam Parson and his staff at Northstar Animal Care. In December we brought our 3 year old GSD with a torn up rear knee to him. Dr. Parson evaluated the injury and agreed to perform a Tightrope procedure on the knee.

Read Less
