We've been going to this vet since our dog was a puppy (4 years). In the past, we were seen by Dr. Gary Dickerson, but he has since move on to another practice. The front desk staff and the vet techs are always friendly and welcoming, but the vet herself seems a bit rude. Dr. Schumacher walked into the exam room and simply started giving treatment plans. There was no "Hi", "How are you?" or any acknowledgment for my fiancé and I. Not to mention, my dog wasn't even in the exam room at the time. As soon as we got into the exam room, the vet tech took her to "take her temp", but a temperature reading doesn't take 15 minutes. Not to mention, since when do examinations take place in the back? There was no sharing of information or update about what was going on with our dog. For future references, pet parents should be made aware of what is going on with their pets. Don't just take the pets to the back and leave the owners in the examination room clueless. This will be our last visit at this place. Go elsewhere if you want to feel valued as a customer or kept in the loop about your pet's treatment and care. At the end of the day, communication goes a long way. :) Ps. This wasn't our first time interacting with her either. The first time I wrote it off as her having a bad day, but that seems to be her personality. Read Less

About 8 months ago my 6 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Kimber was diagnosed as diabetic and Dr. Brauer saved her life, in my opinion. She had a diabetic episode one night and the next Monday I took her directly from the Clyo Emergency Clinic to Dayton South Vet Clinic and he began a diligent 5 month period of time getting her regulated on her insulin. It was not an easy task but with Dr. Brauer and his staff the task was completed. He went to great efforts to work with me and Kimber to get the triangle of "diet, exercise and medication" just right. Dr. Brauer took his time in explaining what it means to have a diabetic dog and did it in terms I could grasp. There were times that "Dr. B" came in early and stayed late working with us. He also personally called me after each appointment, and there were many, to check on my fur baby. In the past 8 months I have been to the office for appointment, food purchases, advice and insulin purchases and everyone from Dr. B, the techs who take care of the babies at all hours, to Emily and her staff that run the front desk all make my fur babies and me feel so understood and cared for that I would recommend their care to anyone. 8 months ago I was a new patient but have always been treated as an old friend. Finding a good knowledgeable vet for ferrets is difficult. My girlfriend and I got lucky when we found Dr. Brauer. He and his staff has been amazing with our 5 ferrets. He has help 2 of our rescue ferrets off of craigslist out of death row. Bailey and Summer came to us very sick and malnourished and probably days away from death. Quick diagnosis and meds, and now they are both outweighing the other 3 ferrets and are completely healthy. Our most recent case with Lily has been the most frightening. She was found laying under her food dish seizing real bad. We gave her honey and gave her a few doses of Prednisone that we had on hand to keep her stable until we could get her into the vet Monday morning. Dr. Brauer gave her his undivided attention to get her seizing under control and started treating her for insulinoma. Lily's case hasn't followed the rules on it being insulinoma due to her age and levels coming back normal so we gave 6 different medications just be sure. Lily has gone from seizing multiple times a day, tremoring, dragging herself around, and not eating or drinking to no seizures. she is now able to run around again, little to no tremoring and eating and drinking on her own. All of Lily's success is owed to Dr. Brauer and his staff. Without them Lily wouldn't have made it.Read Less

1.0 star rating 12/8/2016 I brought my ferrets in twice in six months. First, the Dr told me one had "intestinal disease." Which could be treated with antibiotics? The first visit I brought the two and they charged me $100 each just for the exam. He diagnosed them with "rods and cones" after a fecal exam, and prescribed an insane amount of medication. They became very lethargic during the antibiotic treatments and lost weight. I told the doctor my oldest had been with cats before and had fleas. He gave them ivermectin injections and guaranteed that would take care of all external and internal parasites. This is simply not true. They perked up a bit after getting off the antibiotics but they were still having weird poos and not eating well. The second time I went in was after buying a new ferret. I brought all three. Same diagnosis for all three and the same load of medications. Total was over $1,200. My oldest was still having constipation this whole time, which I told the doctor, and he said that it was in fact diarrhea from all the internal parasites... Here's the kicker. I went to another vet. The ferrets were diagnosed with hairballs, tapeworms and fleas. The doctor also said that amoxicillin was all they needed before, not the 5 medications he put them on. They were also prescribed revolution and I was told to use ferret lax for the hairballs. Total was $170. These doctors don't care about your pets, they just want to rob you blind. These babies suffered for over six months for greed. And? All three are very happy and healthy and my little girlie passed all her hairballs and has gained weight and is no longer constipated. And they aren't scratching all the time anymore, which the Dayton vet reassured me was "normal."Read Less

Thanks to the entire staff!Read Less

Took our cockatiel who was acting lethargic to this vet for the first time. Told us over the phone the tests they'd run and the charges (100-150) we were looking at but when we go to check out they handed me a 450 dollar invoice without saying what it was for or even asking me before hand to run any of the extra tests. The ladies I spoke with were great and knowledgeable and the ladies up front corrected our bill. My complaint is you can't run up a bill without mentioning the extra costs. Save yourself an hour wait in the lobby and go somewhere else. Read Less
