I was 5 when my family moved to Vandalia, OH and our first veterinarian was Dr. Betts at Dixie Veterinary Clinic. Over time, I've grown to know, respect, and be extremely thankful for Dr. Betts as well as Dr. Tinney and Dr. Thorn, along with Dr. Joseph and another vet whose name I can't recall.
Over thirty years later, I now take my own animals to this practice and couldn't be happier. Last October, they saved my cat's life when a sudden, severe kidney infection attacked her, devoting hours to her care, both during and after office hours.
I've watched the staff save the lives of my animal family members for decades, and had them by my side as the life slipped from my animal family members' bodies; they've literally cheered with me and cried with me. They've hugged and consoled me.
Each and every staff member, whether veterinarian, vet tech, vet assistant, receptionist, or anything else, has not only a strong love for animals but love for each of the human clients, as well. They are exceedingly patient, willing to go "outside the box" when considering treatment options, and are unfailingly forthright and -- if you ask them to be -- brutally honest for the sake of the animal they are treating.
Now, one of their patients is my own service dog, and (except for the tables that move up and down!) this is one of his favorite places to visit. I've told the receptionists before that I truly believe he'd love to become their "office dog", "helping" them around the office all day and seeking out people to pet him! This was the first place aside from my home he knew when he first came home with me, and he loves it.
My Labrador Retriever, my service dog who first met office staff in 2004, adored this clinic almost as much as my dog now. She even had a specific "bark" that she only used when asking Miranda to come visit with her! In 2014, ten years later, Miranda held my hand tightly while Dr. Tinney released my Labbie-girl's soul from a body-turned-prison which would only have held pain and suffering for her had he not done so. Miranda, Carolyn, and others hugged me after I collapsed in tears in the hallway and, somehow, they made the unbearable bearable.
I wouldn't trade veterinary practices for anything. My only wish would be that the current veterinary staff could stay there forever, because they are so amazing, empathetic, knowledgeable, and kind: I don't want any of them to ever retire because I would miss them!
I'd recommend this practice to anyone and everyone who is looking for a doctor for their own animals. I've seen them treat animals from the tiniest of kittens to enormous parrots. Dr. Betts has, many times, come back to the office, after hours, simply to check to see how animals are doing when left overnight due to health problems that require veterinary care beyond office hours. Dr. Betts has called me on weekends, at night, just to let me know how my dog or cat is doing.
The quality of care and the compassion of everyone at this practice is unsurpassed by any other that I've known. Thank you to all of you at Dixie, and I'm sure we'll see you soon when we pick up next month's heartworm preventative! Read Less
