I have never had a vet devote as much time and explain completely and thoroughly and with a laypersons understanding, however not condescending as Dr. Ballerd did on our first visit. Our experience with other veterinary professionals has been that we felt as though we were being hurried out and that we left without all our concerns being addressed, coupled with a large bill. In short, Dr. Ballard was a breath of fresh air and a welcome change to our 30 years previous experience in dealing with various vets. I had my first appointment at Cheshire Crossing this morning with my cat, Amelia, and was so impressed by everyone there. The facility is welcoming and very clean, and we were greeted warmly when we arrived. Gina was our technician and she was courteous and thorough, addressing my concerns while showing Amelia some TLC. Finally, Dr. Carpenter examined Amelia, but not before offering her treats, petting her gently and speaking to her soothingly. The appointment ended with a clear explanation of a treatment plan and my every question answered. I had an appointment and took my dog there for allergies. I was seen quickly and the vet gave me plenty of things for my dog to feel better and he is 90% better already. She also gave him cheese and some meat treats to help him calm down as he was so nervous. She said to bring him back two or three more times just to let him eat treats and get accustomed to the office for awhile so, hopefully, his next visit isn't as stressful. I can't express enough gratitude about the great experiences and even a devastating one that I have had with Dr. Ballard and his staff. Every time I have had to take one of my fur babies there, we were treated with kindness and respect. Everything was explained so we understood, and what treatment was needed if any. The entire staff was extremely caring and sympathetic when I had to make a devastating choice to let my long time friend and companion of 10 1/2 years cross the Rainbow Bridge. They allowed me as much time with her that I wanted or needed even though they were closing for the day. A few days later I received a sympathy card in the mail and was signed by each and everyone of the staff ( that shows me that they care and love each and everyone of there clients and there families ). I also am super excited with the fact that Dr. Ballard treats PitBulls because I currently have two and so many vets will not take PitBulls. I am so happy that there is quality vet office near me! I was watching the office being built, and was so excited! I recently took my cat in for treatment. The office is clean, the front desk gals so friendly. My vet took care of my cat, answered all of my questions. She took the time to make me feel valued as a client. It's been a long time coming trying to find a good vet. I've been a dog owner for nearly eight years (count 'em in dog years... that's a while!) Over this time I've had probably five vets. Each one has never made me feel comfortable; each one has always tried to "sell" me something; and neither of them has actually taken more than two minutes to EXPLAIN what is going on with my dog and why he/she thinks XYZ symptom is happening... until Cheshire.My dog has had a skin problems since the day I adopted him from the shelter and I can't even tell you how many "treatments" we've been through over the years.This year when it got to the worst it's ever been, I headed to Cheshire on the recommendation from a friend who assured me this was THE place to go.We got to see the doctor THE DAY of my call for an appointment and were able to see Dr. Ballard immediately. Dr. Ballard was unlike any other vet I've ever been to:- He took more than 2 minutes to explain what his thoughts were about my dog's symptoms and his plan of treatment- They outlined a treatment plan and recommended priority treatments so I could plan a payment/budget- The staff was incredibly patient and offered to answer and welcomed ANY questions I could've imagined (via phone, email, smoke signal, whatever!)- I can't stress enough how memorable and incredible it was that he actually took the time (nearly 30 minutes actually) to EXPLAIN my dog's condition and his planned course of diagnosis and treatmentThe good news is after eight years I finally know my dog is allergic to... everything... and we're opted for a treatment (shots) that's anticipated to cure his crazy allergic reactions.While I don't see the necessity to charge patients (owners) a $29 fee to show how to give an allergy shot, consultation prices are pretty standard, but the one-on-one vet attention at this practice is unparalleled. I'm so happy, and relieved, I finally have found a vet I trust who isn't only trying to sell me something or get past me to move on to the next money-making pet. I have total confidence in the care Cheshire is providing for my dog and I'm happy to travel all the way to Delaware to receive it. Read Less
