If I could give 0 stars I would. We adopted our adorable Sheppard mix puppy a couple weeks ago and love him very much. There were a lot of unexpected fees when we adopted him, so just beware. You will be required to purchase puppy training classes from them, which are $82. They required me to purchase their heart worm medication (which cost $175, and only would have cost around $75 at my own vet) and didn't even give me the one for my dogs size. I received medication for a 45-75 pound adult dog, when ours is only a 6 pound puppy. Final adoption fee was $577. 3 days after we took him home he got extremely sick. He was profusely vomiting, had bloody stool and was lethargic. We took him to our home vet ($150 charged) where he was diagnosed with Parvo, and was then sent to the emergency room leaving me with about $1,600 in vet bills and unable to go to school or work for almost a week due to worry. Both our vet, and the emergency clinic vets told us he had to have contracted it while in the shelter, since the disease has a 5-10 day dormant period. We called the Animal Medical Center and told them what was going on so that they could inform the owners of the other puppies in his litter, and asked if they would be willing to reimburse some of our expenses. The woman on the phone was very nice and told us we could call again later when someone who could handle this was available. We waited until the time told and called again, with no answer. Waited a few more hours, still no answer. This went on for two days until we called from a different number, where the woman told us they would call us back on Monday to talk, but that's when our follow up appointment was so we decided it would be better to ask about it in person. We went in for the follow up appointment to finish out his puppy shots (which we were told would be provided for by the shelter, but they ended up billing us $75 instead) After the appointment was over and we brought up the bills for his hospital stay, they told us that they would now contact us on Wednesday to discuss it. At this point it's become clear that they are blatantly avoiding us, and stalling a necessary conversation. We have been calm and very nice to all of the staff, and they have all been very polite to us as well. But I have now paid $2,539 in the first 2 weeks of ADOPTING a mixed breed dog. We love our puppy very much, and would never give him up or wish for another one. But you could purchase a pure breed dog from a pet store and only spend 1/3 of what we have adopting. I will never come back here, and advise everyone else to be wary, and get your pups tested right after adoption. Read Less
