General Info
At our veterinary hospital, your pets are our family! The Family Pet Clinic was originally named Bartles Pet Clinic by its founder, Dr. Harry Bartles, in 1992. A year later, Dr. Terri Slezak joined the practice. In 2000, Dr. Bartles retired and sold the practice to Dr. Richard Thompson. Not long after, the clinic held a contest among its clients to choose a new name- and "The Family Pet Clinic" was born! In 2015, Dr. Eric Allie joined the practice and our team became complete. The Family Pet Clinic is a full service facility, offering wellness care, specialized plans for puppies and kittens, senior pet care, a wide variety of surgery, pet dentistry, internal medicine, digital radiography, dermatology, behavior counseling, specialized toxicology treatment, a full pharmacy, medical grooming, microchip placement, and daytime emergency medicine. The clinic has an extensive state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory that was upgraded in 2013. We are proud to offer medical care for the police canines of Garfield Heights and many surrounding law enforcement agencies, with over fifty dogs from 19 departments served by our doctors and staff. Since January 2000, the number of pets cared for by The Family Pet clinic has quadrupled. The pet owners of the Garfield Heights area deserve the highest quality care for their furry friends, and we are proud to serve them. In addition to treating dogs and cats, The Family Pet Clinic also provides medical care for exotic pets, including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, hedgehogs, and non-venemous reptiles.

New post. The dedication of the doctors and staff always amaze us. The absolute love and care they have for our furrry family members is so compassionate. There have extended hours with three terrific doctors. We have 3 cats, 1 dog and we had guinea pigs. I believe this profession choose these doctors, as this is not just a profession, to them. This seems more like their life's work. Every patient is met with genuine and great concern. We do take our babies in for regular check ups and shots, but sometimes they have additional needs. Once again our KitKat had her mouth bothering her, and Dr. Thompson fit her in to day (staying after his time to leave) to get her health back on track. Dr. Thompson has taken great care to try to save her teeth, but at this point she will need to get them removed, after giving her every chance to save them. We have had great experience with the most lovely front staff and the vet techs...thank you all for working so lovingly with our pets. You all work so hard and we really appreciate all of you so very much....

We have now taken our cats, dog, guinea pigs for several years. The doctors and staff are totally amazing. Without exception, these lovely, devoted, wonderful dedicated people, always have the furry family members as their priority. We always take our pets in for everything from regular check ups, to dental problems, to bumps and lumps on our older animals. They are always compassionate even when we some times think something is wrong and it's not. truly appreciate and adore all of members at the Family Pet Clinic. Thank you.

I have had many pets throughout the years and several Vets. I have never been to an office where from the Vets to the assistants to the front desk and every single person I come into contact with cares so deeply about my dog(s).No matter the occasion-tragic, minor or in between I have always been treated with kindness and caring. I so highly recommend this office. They are truly amazing and it is obvious that each person is doing what they love and my dog(s) have truly benefited from this relationship

We've been going to the Pet Clinic for 12 years now. Dr Thompson and staff are the best group of animal care specialist (Vets, Vet techs, Vet assistants ) we've had the pleasure of going to for our pets. They all are so welcoming and are compassionate to our dogs needs. They answer all our questions while there. If we remember something later to ask. We just call and they will answer it over the phone. Dr. Thompson, Dr Allie and Dr Swaslack are prompt at calling us with test results when needed. We HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who wants the best quality care and a reasonable price, for their pets

Very professional staff and Dr. My boyfriend and I were very distraught about our cat being in pain with no idea what was wrong when we brought her in. The woman at the counter gave us a towel with pheromones to calm her down. They took care of her very quickly and had an answer to all of our questions. I really appreciate the Dr's calm demeanor and the way she seemed to care. They even asked for an update next week even if it's just a call to say shes okay. I'll definitely be bringing my other cats here in the future! Hopefully under better circumstances.

They answered all my questions regarding his care and he was very comfortable around the doctor. I will continue to use them for his care for sure. A side note i have to say is when they called to check on Bud to see how he was doing.

We have been bringing our pets to The Family Pet Clinic for years. They have taken excellent care of our fur babies for years. They have shown compassion and gotten us through hard times and have us laughing when we bring the boys in. We see Dr. Slezak, Dr. Thompson, and Dr. Allie. We have the utmost confidence in all of them. No question is stupid and they are always there when we need them. Best Vets and Best Care from all the staff.

You are treated super and the care given to your pet is beyond amazing... they truly care about you and your pet.. they answer any and all questions put your mind at ease; love on your pet just as you do it is an amazing place... professional yet loving and caring what a truly awesome combination... and a call the following day to check on your pet.. can caring get any better than that... at times Max can be a handfull as a 5 month old lab can be yet they constantly reasure us that he is great... and doing just fine.. best place ever... thank you

They are so professional and caring. We have been taking Taz there since we got him in 2015 at six weeks n put him on the puppy plan which was great and very affordable. I remember his first visit he was scared n shaking. On his second, third, and fourth visits he was a little more calm. By the time he was six months and about 55-60# he was going through the door terrorizing everybody. He is now an 85# German Shepherd and he still has a lot of puppy in him and will bark like he's really viscous but he's not he just likes to make his presence known and once he sniffs and jumps up to see if he's taller than you he's fine after that. The Dr. told me he will start calming down when he gets older n he's just doing his job being protective. What I keep telling ppl he's just a puppy. I my and the staff for putting up with him. They all know when Taz is in the house.

I am thankful to have the great relationship that I do with The Family Pet Clinic Staff! They have been there for me and my fur babies many times over, from the routine exams, to the nerve-wracking work-ups and the heartbreaking goodbyes. Dr. Allie is a great addition to the medical team, his knowledge and also his compassion come across so clearly in our interactions and I am grateful for him and all of his help with my crew! I am also forever grateful for everyone else at the FPC and the care they have and continue to give my fur family! You don't know how much it means to be able to count on you all to help us thru the good and bad! I am very specific about who I trust with my pets with to say the least, and I can always say this team has been great to us, and we are forever grateful. I am glad to have them as part of my babies' medical team and part of my "family", as well! Thank you all!

I have taken my 2 year old Boston Terrier Princeton to The Family Pet Clinic since I got him. They are caring and provide awesome care. My little boy was not feeling well and his ears had been bothering him. I was able to get him in for an appointment within 24 hours where we were taken very good care of in a timely manner. Prince was doing much better within no time and Dr. Allie even called a few days later to check to see how Prince was doing. Awesome team giving amazing care. Jamie Smith is doing a great job!

We have been bringing our pets to The Family Pet Clinic for years. They have taken excellent care of our fur babies for years. They have shown compassion and gotten us through hard times and have us laughing when we bring the boys in. We see Dr. Slezak, Dr. Thompson, and Dr. Allie. We have the utmost confidence in all of them. No question is stupid and they are always there when we need them. Best Vets and Best Care from all the staff.

such an awesome place we have taken Max there since we got him in October what a wise decision we made. Dr Thompson and staff are wonderful . you will not find a more caring; loving place. You are treated super and the care given to your pet is beyond amazing... they truly care about you and your pet.. they answer any and all questions put your mind at ease; love on your pet just as you do it is an amazing place... professional yet loving and caring what a truly awesome combination... and a call the following day to check on your pet.. can caring get any better than that... at times Max can be a handfull as a 5 month old lab can be yet they constantly reasure us that he is great... and doing just fine.. best place ever... thank you

They are so professional and caring. We have been taking Taz there since we got him in 2015 at six weeks n put him on the puppy plan which was great and very affordable. I remember his first visit he was scared n shaking. On his second, third, and fourth visits he was a little more calm. By the time he was six months and about 55-60# he was going through the door terrorizing everybody. He is now an 85# German Shepherd and he still has a lot of puppy in him and will bark like he's really viscous but he's not he just likes to make his presence known and once he sniffs and jumps up to see if he's taller than you he's fine after that. The Dr. told me he will start calming down when he gets older n he's just doing his job being protective. What I keep telling ppl he's just a puppy. I my and the staff for putting up with him. They all know when Taz is in the house.

I am thankful to have the great relationship that I do with The Family Pet Clinic Staff! They have been there for me and my fur babies many times over, from the routine exams, to the nerve-wracking work-ups and the heartbreaking goodbyes. Dr. Allie is a great addition to the medical team, his knowledge and also his compassion come across so clearly in our interactions and I am grateful for him and all of his help with my crew! I am also forever grateful for everyone else at the FPC and the care they have and continue to give my fur family! You don't know how much it means to be able to count on you all to help us thru the good and bad! I am very specific about who I trust with my pets with to say the least, and I can always say this team has been great to us, and we are forever grateful. I am glad to have them as part of my babies' medical team and part of my "family", as well! Thank you all!

I have taken my 2 year old Boston Terrier Princeton to The Family Pet Clinic since I got him. They are caring and provide awesome care. My little boy was not feeling well and his ears had been bothering him. I was able to get him in for an appointment within 24 hours where we were taken very good care of in a timely manner. Prince was doing much better within no time and Dr. Allie even called a few days later to check to see how Prince was doing. Awesome team giving amazing care. Jamie Smith is doing a great job!

Been coming here for years - with my cat Mackenzie until she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2000, and with my Penny-dog since 2007. Friendly, professional, and, above all, very caring staff! Dr. Terry has even called me late in the evening with a follow up or just to check how things are going when there has been a problem. My brother's family takes all their cats here as well. Dr Thompson is one of the best vet's out there. He genuinely cares about all the animals he works with. He took care of all of my dogs including our golden retriever who lived to be 16 years old. No complaints from me at all, he is a phenomenal veterinarian.

The clinic is so clean and welcoming! The staff is very friendly and highly knowledgable. We we so happy with our visit that we recommended all of our friends and family there!
