So if you’re considering using the Fair Avenue Veterinary clinic in Lancaster... don’t.
I took my cat on the 5/17/2018 and they told me he had a cut on his paw and “dead tissue” which was causing his limping. So they cut part of the pad of his paw off bandaged it and sent me home with antibiotics. Told me to leave the bandage on as long as possible and not to take it off. I asked how this “dead tissue” could have happened multiple times and kept getting told “we don’t know.” I asked if I should take the bandage off after a certain amount of time and was told no. Asked if I should get special litter and again told no. I was supposed to have a follow up on the 28th. Memorial Day. I asked 3 times when I scheduled if they were sure they were open. Every time I was told yes. Surprise! They weren’t. When I called Tuesday I was told they called and left me a voicemail and I was basically called a liar.
I left my cats bandage on FOR OVER A WEEK because I was told NOT to take it off. He finally got it off himself and because the bandage restricted air it never scabbed over so when he used his litter box clay got stuck in it. I ASKED IF I SHOULD USE SPECIAL LITTER MULTIPLE TIMES.
I decided to find a new vet. My cat has a condition called pillow foot which caused this fiasco. But... leaving his bandage on for so long caused an infection, and when he finally got the bandage off he got litter in it (because I was supposed to be using special litter like I asked) and the wound had to be cleaned out, litter extracted and he is now on a second round of antibiotics and steroids.
The fact that Dr. Nicholson didn’t even notice the pillow foot is frieghtening. I would have never found out he had this condition if I didn’t go to a new vet.
The pillow foot was completely obvious and apparently not an uncommon problem with cats.I spent $150 at each vet’s office. The second vet bill should have never been necessary if Dr. Nicholson and her staff knew what they were doing. A bandage should never be left on that long. Also, the bandage should not completely cover a cat’s toes and he should have been using special litter. On top of the actual veterinary care problems, the office staff doesn’t return phone calls when they say they will. They couldn’t find my cat’s vet records when my new vet called to get them so they called me asking if I had a copy of my reciept, which I was never given.
Save yourself the hassle, money and potential life threatening treatments for your pet and just avoid this place. They’re too busy judging you and thinking you neglect your animal to notice a real medical conidition. Read Less
