I felt like just a number to them. Every time I called I got some snappy girl who cut me off mid sentence and was very dismissive. I went there about seven times for an on going problem we were having, and every time they suggested the same treatment. No one once thought, "this isn't working, let's try something else". They just took my money, gave me the same pills that didn't work the first time, and sent me on my way. I will say the vets are very friendly and answer any and all questions, but the girls at the front desk are rude and snappy. As soon as I visited another vet they fixed us up on the first visit. I would have loved to have given this vet 5 stars as Dr. Wagner and her staff with the exception of one, are great, caring, loving doctors who have the pets best interest at heart. The exception- the front desk attendant Shirley. Never have I ever met or encountered veterinary staff whether it be a doctor or administrative staff that was so absolutely horrible to work with. One of my dogs who's been treated at this vet for over a year, had a slight emergency so we brought her to Dr. Wagner. Great experience with her/her staff as usual.When time to check out came, we had our first negative experience here. Shirley was so rude & hateful both in her tone and actions, I literally walked out the door with no intention of ever coming back. As I was getting into my vehicle I happened to turn around and see that Shirley had followed me into the parking lot to harass me some more! Unbelievable! I ended up calling back and spoke to someone else who after I told what had taken place, was appalled at Shirley's behavior. Only because the new person I spoke to apologized profusely, even though *she* wasn't at fault, did I decide to continue going to this vet. Be warned that Shirley is quite unpleasant, something I would not say unless it was extreme behavior that constituted it. She doesn't care if you're on pins and needles worried about your pet. She's rude and may verbally assault you, as she did me. She doesn't care about the animals, only that she gets money from you like it's coming from her own personal bank account. I called today as another pet needed to see a vet. Shirley answered the phone & after finding out that it was me on the line began being rude & unkind. ....Enough! Sorry, I will not be back. These guys were awesome! They slipped me in last minute between appointments when my regular vet was booked up, which let me avoid going to the ER when my pup was bitten on the ear. They fixed him right up, we were in and out quickly and they took great care of him. The vet and the tech were both very sweet and did everything they could to distract my pup from the pain while they fixed him up. They used glue on his ear which is holding up well and put him on antibiotics as a precaution. I'll definitely consider coming back here! This is the best Vet practice in central Ohio. We have been to three other vets in the New Albany\Gahanna area and none of them have treated our pets as well as Dr. Wagner at Animals R Special. You can tell she really loves these animals and wants to do what is best for them and you. I can't say enough good things about this practice. You would be foolish to go anywhere else. Read Less

Good: Friendly, take drop ins, had 2 kittens that somebody left at door for adoption, did a quick check up on our kitten which we found in the street. Bad: Although they would take our kitten during our weekend vacation, he would be all the time inside a large kennel. And, they totally missed the TICK it had by his ear!! Read Less

Very happy with Dr. Wagner and her staff. We have 5 rescue labs and she comes out to the house for their yearly exams. She literally saved the life of one of my dogs that we think got into a quarrel with a raccoon.  We even adopted one of their rescue cats - he has been a true joy. Read Less

my first time visiting this location yesterday to help my Beabull bella and they were so gentle with her after her last experience at her pre vet we went to which then caused her to now be muzzled... but they were so patient and gentle with her and so friendly with bella. well definitely be going back to this location for sure!! so happy i found them! I have to deduct a star for boarding. DO NOT board your dog here. My small dog was left in a crate for 14-15hrs over night by their own account. Her bedding and toys were soaked in urine (who could blame her!) Cats are the only animals they should board...Overall I was very satisfied with the vet services here. Prices are reasonable, Dr. Wagner is knowledge, friendly, and takes the time to listen to your concerns and explain things. Read Less

Dr. Wagner and staff have been nothing but great and caring - at the end of our last pooch's life and now with out new girl. I send everyone I know to see them and have yet to hear a complaint. FIRST, our Chihuahua puppy had mites.  They diagnosed it correctly & were able to treat the issue... but it took 6 months of deadly 'horse' medicine @ $300+ per month (over $2000 including visits, shots, exams, etc).I mentioned this to another vet in Dayton and he said the technique they used is not only the MOST DANGEROUS, but the longest & most expensive way to treat it... they were only out for the money.SECOND, the Chihuahua fell off our couch and could not use her back leg.  In a panic, we took her back and they did some expensive tests & x-rays.  Their conclusion was that she broke her hip and it would cost over $1000.  No way!Even though they were angry & fought with us over borrowing the x-rays I had paid for... we took the x-rays to the other vet I mentioned earlier.  After glancing at them for less than 1 minute, he said it is CLEARLY not her hip... it was her knee cap.  He showed me what to look for on the x-ray & I could clearly tell what this issue was too.  So it was only a $450 operation, not $1000+.  So even if they did the $1000 operation... it still wouldn't be fixed & it would have cost another $500+ for another operation.THIRD, every time you go to this vet... it is a different doctor.  It's not just one or two full-time vets.  If you request the person you had last time, either they won't be in for awhile or they no longer work there.  It's like a revolving door at this place.STAY AWAY! We took our second cat here to get him a check up and shots so we can make him an outside cat (he is THE WORST). He had an absolute meltdown at their clinic, but Dr. Wagner was able to keep him under control and get him sedated per our request. She found out that he had an intestinal parasite, and set us up with meds and a plan of action. We know it used to be under different ownership, and while Marissa M. has great things to say about the old vet., I know not everyone else does. Dr. Wagner brings fresh insight to the world of veterinary medicine. She clearly has a passion for getting the job done quickly, efficiently and with as much care for the animals as possible. We are beyond thrilled to have her as our new vet...the trip to New Albany is worth it to have her take care of our animals. Read Less

I was initially drawn to Animals "R" Special because of the name. No real reason except I think its funny. I am glad I followed my sense of humor because Animals "R" Special is great.The offices are inside an old Cape Cod style home. I feel that this home like enviorment versus the sterility of a more medical enviornment helps put your animal and yourself more at ease. For your pet it might seem as if they are just going with you to visit your friends. Ok, they probably will see right through your ruse, but I like to pretend.The front desk staff is nice, and will make a big fuss over your pet. The building smells pleasant, somehow they escaped that scared pet smell that other vets have. There are lots of pet bling to browse through while you wait. And there are treats to soothe your pet while they freak.Both vets are really nice and totally baby your pet. My cats hissed away, and Dr. Karen was unfazed. I felt like the exam was comprehensive, and most importantly gentle. Even though my cats were extra bratty I never felt like anyone there was judgmental about it. The price of an exam is about median for a vet, but the care makes it priceless. Animals  R Special lives up to its name. Read Less
