We brought a stray kitten in because she was having an eye issue. The doctor spent less than 5 minutes and prescribed antibiotic drops, and charged $200.00.
The kitten's eye is not healing and when I called about bringing her in, I was told that I would have to pay another $150.00 emergency fee. One representative told me that I would be charged $45.00 for a revisit fee, and then the billing department told me that since I had not brought the cat in within 72 hours, that I would have to pay the $150.00. At no time was I ever advised that I could bring the kitten back for a recheck within 72 hours and pay the recheck fee of $45.00.
I then spoke to the hospital administrator, and she told me that the records indicated that the vet had done " a thorough examination" of the kitten. In fact, she spent less than 5 minutes. The vet picked up the kitten and looked at her eye and said that she would prescribe eyedrops ($50.00). My 17-year old granddaughter was with me and concurs that the Vet did not do an examination as indicated in the medical records.
Today I was told that if I wanted to bring the kitten in for a recheck that I would have to wait 3 days for an appointment or pay the $150.00 fee. The administrator also told me that the $45.00 recheck fee was a new policy that they just started the day before -- a completely different story that I was told by the first clinic representative.
I explained that the kittens are strays and that I do not have endless source of funds to pay for their care and that they should only charge me the $45.00, and the administrator denied my request.
Needless to day, I will never return to this veterinary hospital, nor will I ever recommend its services to anyone else. Read Less

After receiving a devastating evaluation from our local vet about our dog, we decided to get a second opinion and were recommended to Dr. Knox by our breeder. Diesel had been diagnosed with severe arthritis in both hips (no x-rays) and arthritis in his front legs. He was also diagnosed with severe cataracts (without using a light or magnifying glass) and we were told that he would soon be blind. The only recommendation she gave us was to have him euthanized.
Dr. Knox examined him and did x-rays—something that was never offered by our local vet. His diagnosis was mild arthritis in both hips—something he typically sees in dogs Diesel’s age and size (9+ years, 109 lbs.). He’s in the beginning stages of cataracts, not severe, and he said that our boy has a lot of life left in him. His words were “This boy is no where near needing to be euthanized.” Had we listened to our local vet, we would have needlessly put our precious boy down and I would have never forgiven myself. The care, compassion and professionalism we received from Dr. Knox was worth every penny we paid for the diagnosis.
The staff was very friendly and although Diesel is normally very nervous on trips to the vet, he was very calm on this visit. What a difference! Worth the hour drive to get the peace of mind we received! Read Less

I waited a while to post this as I wanted to think about whether it was worth the energy, but after reading all the other, very similar one star ratings I am posting in hopes that it will keep someone from wasting their time and money here. My family went here for years for our pets and I always thought this was the best vet around, but the last year has been so beyond disappointing that I can’t even believe it’s the same office.
They gave my mom’s cat the wrong medicine which caused nerve damage and then tried to cover up their mistakes by taking out the treatment from her file. They only acknowledged it after my mom showed them she still had the receipt paying for the wrong medicine. Only after that did they bother to reimburse her for the overpriced, wrong medicine and multiple vet visits.
I also had an irritating, but not as extreme, visit when taking my very scared and very young rescue cat to their office. After waiting for over an hour and not being seen, my cat was at her wits end, from what I don’t know. I finally was able to get a vet tech to come in the room for all of two minutes to switch on some pheromones which might have worked if started earlier but did nothing at that point. The vet finally came in after almost an hour and a half, refused to give her a regular check up due to her erratic state, and still charged me for the full priced vet visit. He also reprimanded me for having such an upset cat and said she would have to be sedated next time she came in if she acted like that again. Will not be coming here again and am not even bothering to get my files transferred as the last time I needed them printed out I was told they didn’t even have them and had to wait over half an hour for them to be “found.” Read Less

They went to work on her and told us what was happening. We left her there for treatment overnight, but unfortunately her injuries were too bad and she passed away. They were very compassionate when they called to tell me and when I went to pick her up the next day. That was very important to me. I had been there before when another of our cats broke her leg. Feeling very optimistic after Dr. Hughes explained exactly what they were going to do to relieve Muffin of her erratic breathing and water retention. Glad to be here... OK... We were told there would be a $56 office visit. We just wanted a Veterinarian's opinion... Needless to say they took x-ray without our consent. Then, we were told to wait in waiting area for our bill & take-home meds. I waited for OVER 30 mins... I finally went up to the desk, they never called us!!! Having utilized Northview Hospital for several years I would like to think that my expertise as to their ability to take care of their animal patients should go unquestioned. I have read many reviews on this hospital, the vast majority are positive and detail the love and care provided. By the same token there are negative reviews as well, as is the case with all review submissions regardless of business. In this case they are few and far between.
I assisted a couple with their dog Daisy who was having problems with stomach pain. I drove them to Northview and they immediately did several x-rays and determined that a large one pound mass was located in and around the bladder. The people that own the dog were not able to afford surgery and consideration was given to euthanize the animal. I asked them to hold off and allow me to speak with someone that could possibly arrange financing. I spoke with Tracy Thompson who directed me to the people (outside of Northview) who agreed to subsidize the cost and reduce the price. Had a very bad experience here. Brought our dog in for an emergency with various symptoms. She had $300 worth of block work to say they were not sure what it was. Then she continued to deteriorate, so back to the vet for $600 of tests to tell us she had lymphoma . Offered a year long $3500 treatment, only saying she would live a year. When we declined ( we have had a dog with cancer and the treatment was awful) we were made to feel as if we had wrong priorities. To try and make an owner feel bad they choose not to do an expensive treatment that doesn't guarantee anything is very unprofessional. So we went elsewhere to have her put to sleep, because after all of the testing($1000) they were going to charge an outrageous amount to put her down. So today at work i receive a call asking me how she is doing, yes I had to explain that she was gone. Very unprofessional all around and once again the Dr. mentioned that we had different priorities Yes I do had different priorities, a 9 year old dog with cancer does not need to go thought Chemo. I made my decision and didn't appreciate him questioning me. It was hard enough without him trying to guilt me. Really? Never again will I ever use this vet. Wish i could give a negative star! Never will I step foot in this place again. The only reason I went there is because my vet does not have emergency services. My 165 lb mastiff suffered from Bloat. The 2 options were to put him down or do the emergency surgery. Obviously I'd do whatever it takes so we opted for the surgery. Received a phone call during the surgery saying they found "spots" on his spleen and recommended they remove it. The lady on the phone was rude and seemed irritated because it took me so long to make a decision. My boy was there 3 nights for the recovery process. I don't think he was well taken care of during his stay. We'd go twice a day to visit, he could barely stand on his own and wouldn't walk, even to me. We went to visit one day and his paw was so swollen from the IV in him, I had to point it out to the staff. It's their job to notice these things, not mine. We go to pick him up that Sunday, with a 2 hour notice and there he was laying in his urine. Who knows for how long. They made sure I signed a consent form stating Northview and staff is free of responsibility/liability if your pet becomes ill, refuses to eat, soils itself, etc. Then I get the bill for $5400. NOWHERE near the price range they told me. I asked to speak to someone about this outrageous bill and due to it being Sunday and no staff from billing, I left my name and number for them to call me to discuss this. Never got a phone call back. And forget about Care Credit, its "special financing" from Northview is only for 6 months. Yep, at $900 a month I can pay that off and not get charged interest. What a joke. The only Aftercare instructions I was sent home with was his list of pills he needed to take. I wasn't told when he needed to come back to get his 30 staples out of his belly. Pretty important information wouldn't you think? Guess it doesn't matter because he died one day later. Now I'm out $5400 and a dog. Thanks Northview. Read Less

While I'm sure ALL of their doctors are tops...we've been lucky to be HER patients! Dr. Taylor treated our old, blind, Jack Russell (who unknowingly got too close to a toy-protective pup and suffered the consequences.) She was realistic, thoughtful in her approach, and the tech even sent us away laughing with a fun "shirt" to cover Sophie's dressings. Very recently we adopted a tripod pit bull after he was hit by a car and Dr. Taylor did the amputation and all follow-up care. When we were leaving, the whole staff remembered him and wanted to snuggle him one more time...it was very clear that the time he spent there, before and after his surgery was full of CARE and CONCERN. Later, calling to have his records transferred to our (local) vet was SUCH a breeze. Thank you!! Read Less

I really wish I could give this place a - star rating because they don't even deserve 1 star. We had to make the hard decision this weekend to put our 15 year old pup down. Due to his condition, it was an emergency situation. Since we live not too far from this pet hospital and we were trying to eliminate putting more stress onto our dog since his condition made it hard for him to withstand more than a 5 min car ride, I figured they would be our best option. Boy was I wrong. I was told by the girl who answered the phone that we could "come in" since the emergency section was open but that it would be SUCH an inconvenience to her and whomever she was working with her at the time because they would have to go clean up a room and get everything ready and to quote her "would have to RUSH through the procedure because we didn't have an appointment"... They have even talked us through urgent care situations over the phone at no charge where the "emergency" clinic wanted $80 over the phone. We had one of our guys in ICU for the weekend and they let us go visit at all hours of the day and night. Truly caring staff that understands how much we love our fur babies! We have seen several doctors here and would recommend them to anyone. With the best technology, best doctors, and beautiful facility right around the corner we wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Our little guy got a nasty bite in the Lakewood Dog Park - no other animal clinic was open. We were still relatively new dog owners and I was nervous. After calling, I took our guy over to Northview and they were expecting us. They took fabulous care of our dog and treated us very well. The vet explained every step of the process beforehand, and afterwards explained what they had actually done, what I needed to do, and what I should expect. They were quick, effective, efficient, and friendly - all which made me feel quite relaxed. I was very grateful for their weekend hours and the quality service we rec'd. Read Less

This clinic is large and beautiful with a well trained staff. However, they are also expensive and impersonal. I wish I could say that they are gentle and really get to know your pet like other vets' office but that isn't the case. For example when we took our newly adopted, large, and recently neutered dog to the vet the vet attempted to pick up and flip the dog onto his back in order to inspect the surgical sight. Unfortunately the vet was very abrupt and too firm which scared our gentle and already frightened dog, and when the dog squirmed out of fear his head ended up hitting the hard tile floor. Ever since this happened our dog is scared to let anyone rub his belly. If the vet had been more gentle or gone slowly he may have been able to prevent hitting our dog's head on the floor. As for the price the basic office visit was $52.00, a yr. of Trifexia heartworm medication was $241, and a fecal test was $26. All in all we left feeling like a number more than a valued patient or customer. Read Less

Read Less

I live in Pennsylvania and raise Golden Retrievers . I took my first breeding Dog in 1998 to Dr. Hutch for his hips and elbow X-rays for OFA after having a vet in Pa take X-ray's that I wasn't happy with the pictures . Hutch did the X -rays sent then in and we got a Good rating . Since then he has done 0FA hips and elbows on 5 other golden's of mine and all have come back EXCELLENT ! It is well worth the 5 hour one way trip to Ohio to a vet who takes his time and gets good views to send in. I know what I am looking at when I see hop and elbow x ray's . They take their time and get good pictures . I have been to vets in Pa that put them on the table uses nothing to sedate them at all and are wrestling with them and don't get good pictures . I had one vet who didn't sedate my dog took the picture .came right back with it put it up to look at it and said "well here is the golden's we know what to expect, after all it is a golden ! I WAS FURIOUS. told him not to send in the poor X -ray he took and went out to Hutch her OFA came back an excelent ! IT IS WELL WORTH THE 5 HOUR DRIVE TO HAVE THINGS DONE RIGHT ! WISH THEY WOULD OPEN ONE LIKE NORTHVIEW IN EASTREN PENNSYLVANIA! Read Less

Twice we've driven a significant distance to see Dr. Abby Taylor at Animal Clinic Northview (our "out of town vet") and each time the care and professionalism were unmatched by the entire staff.

Not really the attitude you should have when talking to someone who is making the VERY hard decision to put down a very LOVED dog.. Read Less

Whether we have gone in with a dying rabbit, routine care of our pups, or emergency care the entire staff at Northview is amazing! Read Less

I wouldn't go anywhere else!! The vet tech Brittney was such a sweetheart, my dog absolutely loves her. They take such good care of pets. They hold them, love them, pay attention to them and take overall wonderful and loving care of puppies. It was easy to schedule and dr. Pentecost was extremely skilled and wonderful to communicate with. The cost is absolutely even with or less than other vets (I checked) and the facility is gorgeous. I 100% recommend this vet to everyone! Read Less

I don't know and I don't think I can put a price on the very best care for our dogs. I have found that you get what you pay for and paying less almost cost our younger dog his life. I love Dr Hughes. She is very warm and caring while treating my Giant Schnauzer. She does accupunture which is an added bonus that many vets do not offer. She was honest and straight forward about telling me what would work and what would not with my dog's condition and offered an alternative treatment that has really improved the quality of my senior pets life. I would feel comfortable referring any of my friends or family to her knowing they would get the best care possible.

Read Less

Animal Clinic Northview gets 5 stars for the care they have given to my pets over the years (since they were in the old building down the street). Dr. Miller specializes in dermatology, but she is wonderful and I take my pets to her for everything. The technology of this clinic is top notch.I based this review on the quality of care, but I definitely agree that their charges are astronomical; even for "office visits." Read Less
