Took my cat here because she needed a check up and also she had been drinking lots of water. The doctor I had was nice but the assistants kept feeding my already a little overweight cat canned cheese and over 10 treats , this goes on for a while the whole “here have another treat” . So I tell the doctor my cat is drinking A LOT of water , she had peed a little blood and is loosing weight quickly . They do blood test and I believe a urine test too , they give her pain meds and... an antibiotics. I then leave the office , paid 350 dollars . A week has gone by and finally I get a call saying the test results show she has E. coli in her bladder. A week or so goes by she isn’t getting better , she also now has strange dark excess wax in her ear. I go back , they say she has a ear infection and prescribe her medicine for an ear infection , I once again thought the bill was more than I thought it should be but if it will make my cat better I’ll pay. I religiously follow instruction with the medications and nothing is getting better , I already paid more than I wanted to and results are not being seen . I went to get a second opinion somewhere else , blood test and urine again , results back to me the same day , to tell me she has +++ ketones in her urine and is diabetic and her glucose levels were way beyond normal . . I am upset because this could of been treated a month ago when I started visited NR Animal Hospital. The other day I got a call from NR Animal Hospital and it took me by surprise. They were calling to see how Smokey was doing.....4 months later ...I told them I am no longer a patient, and I really wish at that time I would of explained everything I said above over the phone. Boarded my dog there with strict instructions not to give him toys as he had a habbit of trying to eat them. Sure enough, while we are in Florida my dog somehow eats a ball. Dr. Hetchko is my third vet (I have moved several times). Fantastic doctor. Not only is he extremely competent and has a great bedside manner, but the front office staff and vet techs are wonderful too. I had an emergency visit with my cat today, and they were able to make room for him and were so helpful with his diagnosis. All of his medication was on hand, including the prescription Hills bland diet food needed (dry food + several types of wet food!) My next move is out of country and Dr. Hetchko offered remote help with choosing the right OTC Hills once I'm settled in. Back in April I had to put my GSD Alley down. She was 15 years old and I started taking her here because the treatment she was getting for her hip dysplasia, arthritis and spondylosis had hit a brick wall. I was told that if anyone could help her that Dr. Hechko could. I took her there and everyone was awesome. Dr. Hechko is a very good vet with a lot of current knowledge. He gave me many options for Alley. He kept her going for many months until we had to make the deci...sion to take her pain away. This was not an easy decision and he made it much easier and acceptable. Their facility is top notch and very comfortable. I may be a bit partial, but I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. The staff is very caring and helpful. They are truly pet centered. I had to leave my cat for testing for the day. When I returned to pick her up and get results, the animal behaviorist talked to me about the stress my cat had developed by her staying. They took great care of her because they realized she was stressed out. Tabitha gave me great tips about how to ease my cat back into "normal" house life when we returned home. It was nice to have that information and it made the transition home less stressful. It was also noted not to keep the cat in the hospital in the future because of the stress. The doctors and daycare are GREAT. Don't like the grooming at all though. This is the 2nd cut he has got and it was just awful. i've taken several Miniature Schnauzers to this hospital for years! It has always been a pleasure to walk into the doors and being greeted by the staff members. Dr Hechko has certainly taken good care of my pets. I am so sorry that I can no longer drive. I had to give my Lucky to someone else to care for her. Both Dr Hechko and a vet from Avon Lake agree that Lucky has a brain tumor! I miss her so, and would bring her back to NRAH on a minute for treatment, but it's not possible. North Royalton Animal Hospital is an AWESOME facility! Dr. Hechko and his staff take great care of the pets with compassion but also take great care of the owners. I am so glad that I found this vet hospital to take our precious babies. The day care/resort staff is also great. Dr. Hechko and Dr. Roach have never misled me into choosing treatment that was really not needed. The doctors and staff at NRAH go above and beyond when it comes to caring for our pets, and WE feel like we're treated like family. My wife and I once tried to "shop around" to see if another vet might save us money and give us the same service. Big mistake. The place was in Brunswick. We took our dog in because of stomach issues. When we picked him up later in the day his rear end was covered in -you know what- and they hadn't cleaned him up all day! I recently saw this review on line and felt compelled to share my own thoughts because yours differ from mine. I love North Royalton Animal Hospital and these are the reasons why. We have been taking our animals to North Royalton Animal Hospital for several years. When Dr. Hechko took over it was truly a blessing. Through the years our precious animals went through a few illnesses plus surgeries that saved their lives. Their hospital’s after care is immeasurable because they would continue to call us to make sure our pet was doing well. Dr. Hechko has a solid team with extraordinary doctors working with him and the staff perpetuates so much compassion plus they feel like family to us. We have gone to other animal hospitals, and we have found that North Royalton Animal Hospital is worthy of our time and expense. I did my homework and their pricing is quite competitive with other area hospitals. They treat us like family and are advanced in medical care because AAHA demands it. I researched AAHA at length and I can impart one thought, that is AAHA does not give awards unless it is earned! Read Less

I needed a second opinion for my very sick cat. I chose North Royalton Animal Hospital because of its AAHA award. It was a mistake I now have to live with. My cat was suffering from a persistent sinus infection and complete loss of appetite. He is gone now, having been finally diagnosed with advanced cancer by another veterinarian. The treating vet at N. Royalton misdiagnosed him and suggested a very expensive x-ray of the wrong part of his body based on that misdiagnosis. She prescribed an antibiotic that made him vomit (a common side-effect) followed by another antibiotic that he had already been given for a month without results. These medications were liquids that made him gag and only added to his suffering. The only medication that gave him any comfort was the Prednisone that I requested. (This clinic is very focused on protecting its interests against lawsuits and I had to sign a release to get it.) In addition, there were delays in callbacks that resulted in delays in obtaining his medications. Had they been of any benefit, the benefit would have been too long in coming. When an animal is seriously ill, it takes more than expensive and often inconclusive tests to diagnose the illness. It takes an ability to carefully weigh all the data and think beyond the commonplace. Sadly, the treating veterinarian at N. Royalton was unable to do this for my poor cat and his death was needlessly prolonged. I had him put to sleep as soon as the next veterinarian found his widespread cancer by ultrasound and a whole body x-ray. My choice of North Royalton Veterinary clinic was a costly one. The charges were extremely high, but the bigger cost was to my poor cat, who did not deserve to go through all that he went through. I regret my choice of this animal hospital every day, Read Less

I boarded my maltese/bichon mix puppy, Balto, at NRAH this past weekend. I could not have been more thrilled with the entire experience! The staff was wonderful and the facility was spotless. Our two dogs have been seeing Dr Hechko since they were 6 weeks old and this month they will be 3 years old. My dogs and I walk in the woods almost everyday. Both dogs had lacerations of their paws at one time or another.( The dangers of running in the woods). Dr Roach saw Jade on an emergency basis and Jade had the best care possible. Ruby just cut her foot the other day and I took her in to The North Royalton Animal Hospital for emergency care. Dr Hechko was there even though it was his day off, he stayed and took care of Ruby. I have been bringing my pet to Dr, Hechko for about 3 years and wanted to share my latest experience at the ofice. While i was waiting for my cat to be seen someone came in carrying a big dog that appeared to be in severe distress. I was amazed at the way the receptionist and staff rushed them into the back for emergency care then appologized to me that it would me just a slightly longer wait for my appointment. I could tell that the Dr and staff were genuinly worried about the dog's condition and doing everything they could to help. The Dr. then turned all of his attention to my kitty as if she were the only patient he had to worry about that day. I took my Miniature Schnauzer to Dr. Hechko for years. She had many generic problems due to bad breeding. Several times I called to explain a problem, he was always available to answer, even if the receptionist had to call him at home, or while he was away! When my dog had a relapse of IMHA the other Vets took care of her. She had to be put down! It was a very hard time for us. Dr. Hechko was on vacation at the time, and when he returned he called to apologize that he wasn't able to be here for us. Is that the sign of an unconcerned vet. I don't think so! He is the most compassionate Vet I know, and I've been to several others in past years. His staff is also wonderful! I now have a four year old rescue Schnauzer who I wouldn't take anywhere else. I was googling the website for North Royalton Animal Hospital, and wanted to write this review to say my experience has been much different than the last reviewer. I have worked at three animal hospitals in the past. I have been going to Dr. Hechko for more than a year. With that experience, I can easily say that Dr. Hechko and the staff of the North Royalton Animal Hospital are well-trained, caring, and professional on all levels. I was really surprised to hear anyone would worry about Dr. Hechko's age or question his level of experience and interest in their pet. They clearly did not visit the same place I take my pets ( a cat and a dog). Dr. Hechko returns my calls at all hours of the day or night, and has already saved me a trip to the emergency clinic (their bills start at $200 just to walk in the door!). He also made a diagnosis on a skin allergy that two other vets have missed (including one I worked for). His medicine is top of the line, but he didn't automatically recommend the most expensive test as the first line of attack. Dr. H even takes the time to tell my three year old what he's doing during exams. As for boarding, my dog and cat were well-cared for, and the place is spotless. I was even allowed to make sure they were settled in before I left them to board (ok, I was partly just checking up on them to see that everything was in order, and even the kennel is neat and odor-free, and they have a separate quarantine and cat boarding areas--a really nice feature). My 10 year old cat is really obnoxious at the vet, but the whole experience with her has gone as well as it could have. She had a dental done while she was boarding, and came right home with no problems. I wish they were a little closer, but I'll drive the 30 minutes to know I'm doing the best for my dog, and by avoiding pricey veterinary dermatologists until we absolutely have to. Took my puppy to this clinic approx. 2 weeks ago. The receptionist seemed unorganized and seemed ""hurried"" with every phone call she took. The new vet Dr. Hechko greeted us and we went into his examining room. He also seemed very short with us, sighed and yawned, and seemed like he would rather be someplace else! He looked like a young boy, dressed up like a vet! It's hard to trust the advice given when he seems so young and cocky! Everyone there seemed to talk down to my husband and I.
