I absolutely love The Behavior Clinic! Dr. Feltes and all of the staff are wonderful. We have worked with Rachel a lot over the past two years and appreciate all the help so much! I’ve been meaning to write a review for such a long time, and finally remembered to actually do it. I could write such a long review- they have helped me more than I could ever imagine over the past two years with my anxious dog who I rescued as a 10 week old puppy. Now, my dog still has some anxiety and tends to move from being anxious about one thing to another, but overall she is a happy, loving, well behaved dog who enjoys life and just requires some extra effort and constant socialization, along with some daily anxiety medicine. Whenever a new issue arises, The Behavior Clinic is there to help me work through it. I can’t believe how wonderful my dog is now- what a difference! The Behavior Clinic provides all the support you could need. They are always available to answer questions or adjust medicine doses, and I really credit them with my dog being able to live a happy life. They use positive reinforcement methods of training, and have tons of tricks to help solve different behavioral problems. It may seem like a hassle to travel far if you don’t live near them, but they are great about keeping actual appointments to an only as needed basis, and using email and phone calls for follow ups and updates in between whenever possible. They are completely worth the cost- it’s an investment in giving your furry friend a happy life. One warning though- if a person is expecting a miracle cure for their pet’s behavior, there is no such thing! Listen to Dr Feltes and the staff, do what they say, keep them updated, and put in the required work on your end and you’ll see positive results. The Behavior Clinic has really changed my life and my dog’s life for the better- we couldn’t have gotten this far without them! Read Less

After years of trying to deal with two rescues that refused to get along, we found Dr. Elizabeth Feltes and The Behavior Clinic. We came desperate and emotional from the toll of the stress that these boys, whom we love so much, were causing. Their treatment has not been fast or easy, but the staff of The Behavior Clinic has been with us every step of the way. We travel 2 hours from the Pittsburgh area, but the travel time is well worth it to have their expertise! We are now in a much better place. Our boys will never be BFF's but we now have a much calmer and controlled environment. I would highly recommend Dr. Feltes and the staff at The Behavior Clinic. Read Less

Spent 2 hours here and 2 weeks later have 0 results from the clicker training which we already understood from our last dog that they wasted time explaining to us. We got a 2 year old newfoundland rescue who was abused and afraid and 2 days after we had him he bit the vet tech after giving a warning growl. The vet sent us here because they are supposedly the most qualified. Well they had us come in just to tell us we don't know enough about the dog since we have only had him ...2 weeks. They talked my mother into anxiety medication and a muzzle and sent us on our way. Basically just pushed products on us while trying to get my dog to do tricks for treats. They said we would have to get more training appointments to get to know my dog. After getting no results, we took him to a real non-clicker trainer for a fraction of their price and in 1 hour he conquered my dogs fears and gained his trust! Which made me feel very bad about spending hard earned money here, since they did nothing of the sort and my dog was uncomfortable for a whole 2 hours. See More Read Less

During a recent visit to my local pet shop, the clerk, after spending some time with my dog Princess, commented, €She€s just such a calm and confident dog.€ I often get similar comments when we are out. Things haven€t always been this way! I adopted Princess from a shelter two years ago, she had been surrendered from an abusive home and had spent 23 hours a day in a cage at the shelter for the past year before I adopted her. Understandably, she came with some anxiety issues, including a bite history. She was afraid of being restrained, rain, lightning, thunder, hiking trails, bathing, towel drying, and more! I got her for a reduced prince because the shelter was unable to get a muzzle on her or restrain her to update her vaccinations. All dogs have issues and, in the case of Princess, I was looking at a good dog who had been let down by society and, if not able to find a good home, was about to be let down again. Furthermore Princess€s issues would not simply take care of themselves. Both my veterinarian and the Humane Society recommended The Behavior Clinic. From my very first phone call, which wound up being with Rachel (our soon to be trainer), I knew that I was in good hands. Rachel did an excellent job of making me realize that there was hope and that I was not alone with my problem. The Behavior Clinic practices positive reinforcement only! My first-hand experience has shown me that there are some very good reasons for this! Princess now handles restraint well, tolerates having her blood drawn with no issues, and can be muzzled with no problems if need be. Also, she can easily be bathed and dried with a towel. She eagerly jumps at the chance to hike on trails and is either completely or largely improved with respect to rain, thunder, and all the other issues she had. She is safe around people and loves other dogs. I firmly believe that none of this would have been possible without a strict adherence to positive reinforcement! Anxiety seems to be at the heart of many behavioral issues and, unfortunately, many €traditional methods€ of responding to unacceptable animal behavior (verbal reprimands, standing over, harshly staring at our dogs) do nothing but add more anxiety to an already over-anxious situation. The training we did largely ourselves. We were trained by Rachel as to what to do. We were given clear instructions and objectives at each visit. The training itself proved to be very straightforward. It did not find it to be very burdensome in terms of time/effort. It involved many short-term sessions (just a few minutes each) just done consistently over time. I realized that positive reinforcement can work wonders and is the best route for lasting, long term solutions. However, positive reinforcement it is a specific, clinical approach that can be easily misunderstood/misinterpreted if not done with the help of trained professionals. I thought this was particularly true with respect to the question of desensitization and, €what do to do if your dog misbehaves?€ Some of the advice I was given at times seemed counter-intuitive to me but I did it anyway and, absolutely, it did work! Also, Princess€s treatment involved training that was augmented by prescription medication, an approach that can only be achieved by an organization like The Behavior Clinic that utilizes €both€ certified, €positive reinforcement only€ trainers and a licensed veterinarian who specialize in behavioral issues. If you have an animal with behavior issues, Princess and I would strongly recommend enlisting the help of The Behavior Clinic! Read Less

Only because I have to put some sort of star! Spoke with Ashley about a Sense-ation Harness, she was going to check if they had the two sizes in question in stock and would call me back. Informed her it took me over an hour to get there, so I would need to know soon. Didn't think I would have to SPELL it out, but, that implied that I was going to come up TODAY! Guess what you have to spell things out to them. Called again and talked to Karen, yes they had them in stock, but no, could I come tomorrow, because they have animals coming in and out and it would be too much of a distraction! SERIOUSLY... 1 at this time I would be coming just before closing time...and 2 if you can't handle animals around a distraction you have no business being in the business of training animals or calling yourselves a behavior clinic! My claim to fame is that I own probably the youngest patient that the Behavior Clinic ever had. We came at four months old, referred by our Vet. We have seen Rachel on a regular basis and both her and Dr. Feltes have given us very helpful council that has truly helped make our life better! We were able to make improvements by listening to their advice. We did not medicate our dog in anyway. They were very helpful in finding that a medical problem was at the root of our dog's behavior. Even our own vet did not realize this because his first test results were inconclusive. It has been a very rocky road, but we would not still have Benji if it wasn't for Dr. Feltes and Rachel! Dr. Feltes, Rachel (our dog trainer), and the entire staff at the Behavior Clinic are fantastic. Our Newfoundland, Roxie, was in our car when we were involved in a minor car accident. She developed a fear of entering and riding in a car after the accident. We were concerned that if required we would not be able to obtain emergency treatment. Walking to and from the Vet appointments was also becoming problematic. After seeking help from two animal trainers and seeing no results we had almost given up hope. We decided to try one more time and contacted The Behavior Clinic. We are so glad we did! Dr. Feltes and Rachel recognized and taught us how to see Roxie's anxiety and how to work to change it. Training was completed in steps with clear details on how we were to train. Support was provided the entire time with questions, which occasionally arose from the training, being promptly answered by email or phone to prevent any regression in our training between appointments. Roxie now easily enters and rides in a car!! We had almost given up on her being able to ride in a car and are so appreciative of the supportive, caring staff that allowed her to overcome her anxiety. We are especially thankful to Rachel who never gave up hope. We will continue to highly recommend The Behavior Clinic to all our friends and relatives. Read Less

This place has to be a joke! Read Less

Read Less
