I have been taking all three of my dogs here for over 5 years now. The veterinarians are wonderful and truly love the animals. The issue is the front counter staff. The lack of compassion is horrendous The doctors are the reason we have not left to this point. My wife and I have spent plenty of money on our pets, as they are family. One of our dogs recently became ill. My wife called in to see if one of the doctors could see him? She was notified when she arrived that it would be over an hour by the front desk staff, which consisted of three ladies. No issues there, my wife took our dog for a walk to pass the time. My wife returned and one of the ladies at the desk said no doctors would be available now for an additional hour. My wife asked what changed and why she was told to wait and come back in an hour? The lady copped a major attitude thought brought my wife to tears. I wonder who in their right mind hires idiots like this. It is enough to stress out both the family, as well as the pet when visiting the animal hospital. I will assure you this, if the woman with tight curly hair is up front, turn around and head elsewhere. The place does not have a modern web site, or I would include her name. Lake Animal Hospital does have one lady working worth giving credit to. Her name is Donna. I am sure this place makes enough money to lose us as customers, but enough is enough. Read Less

I had a kitty who was very old, and had gotten quite sick. I knew it was time for him to cross Rainbow Bridge. I had been unhappy at my former vets office for quite some time, but when I called them to see how much it would cost for euthanasia it was well out of my budget.  My old vet suggested I call Lake Animal Hospital, because it might be a little cheaper. I called, and they were less expensive, and were so nice on the phone. I took my Moo in for his first and final visit, and the doctor who saw him was absolutely wonderful.  He took time with me, and we discussed what was going on with my boy.  He confirmed what I suspected, that Moo had end stage renal disease.  He was caring and supportive of my decision to let Moo go, and gave me time with him before and after.  The staff was amazing, very compassionate.  I suggested my best friend take her kitties to this office, and she has been very pleased with them as well. Well what can I say about Lake Animal Hospital in Painesville Ohio: alot actually. The veterinarians are very knowledgeable and have always treated all of the animals that I have owned or co-owned with a great amount of care and compassion. Certain staff leave something to be desired. Every single time I call I am either greeted with a constant busy signal or when someone does answer the phone they immediately put me on hold and do not greet me first. When they do greet me, it seems to be there so mission to get me off the phone as quickly as possible and to answer all of my questions in a most incomplete and rude manner. After receiving this treatment from the staff I have cancelled any and all future appointments and have moved my dogs care to another Veterinary practice. After having years of personal experience with this place and a relative of mine actually worked here for a while on a part-time basis part of me will always be sad to leave but there is an even bigger part of me that is glad that I left because I will not tolerate rude people. What a fantastic group of people. We took our 11 puppies here for a wellness visit before they are adopted out and the Vet was so pleasant and fast. We were only there for about an hour. All 11 pups are healthy and need to be dewormed again. The Vet gave us some medication and only charged us for 1 office visit even though he looked at 11 pups. That saved us a ton of money. I would highly recommend this place. It's small and fast. Very friendly staff and the Vet was nice enough to let us use the back door. Read Less

Absolutely disgusted with the service the lady who answered the phone was rude. Told me that all the vets were busy I couldn't talk to one. Then backed up her story with do I think I should be allowed to ask a vet a question for free. Then didn't know how to answer my question. Great vets, awesome prices. Only negative was when we put our dog down they put her ashes into two cookie tins taped together with medical tape. Not how we wanted to remember her. One woman at the front desk always looks mad and annoyed with customers everyone else is wonderful. Read Less

No one else posted this, but this vet does take Visa and Mastercard. Not sure why no one put that in their reviews.Had a pretty good experience with this vet. I ran late because my girlfriend's cat would not cooperate and get in the pet crate. I called the shelter and explained the situation and they gave me advice that helped me get the cat in the crate and get her in the car. They were understanding about why I was late and were able to get me in without much of a wait even though I came in 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment. It was much like a regular doctors office, waiting in the waiting room for a bit and then waiting in the room with the cat. The vet was nice and understanding and was able to keep the cat in a good mood even though the cat was furious with me for dragging her to the vet. Cat was weighed and given a shot, price seemed reasonable considering the circumstances and I was able to get a copy of the vet records for my landlord at no charge. Read Less

Needed to get my kitty in last minute because she was really ill. They were visibly very busy, so I didn't mind waiting about 20 minutes. The doctor was very kind and explained everything very well-- incredibly thorough and compassionate. Moving forward, the doctor gave a few options to act conservatively or aggressively. I left feeling very good about coming to Lake Animal Hospital, knowing I was provided with options in terms of testing and a plan of action to help my furbaby. Hoping my kitty feels better soon. I've never had any issues with the care of any of my animals at lake animal hospital. I've taken all 3 of my dogs, and my cats with no complaint. The doctors are kind, and explain all procedures. The prices for visits and most procedures are well under any vets offices in the area. The receptionists are helpful but the place needs to be updated, with a little more technology. ( still doesn't get in the way of the excellent care my pets receive.) Read Less

Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! The receptionists up front were cold, careless, unprofessional and clueless. These are the first people your customers are interacting with before seeing the vet. They should be trained on how to do their job. Let's recommend a special food that you can buy at Petsmart (Banfield Hospital), but not give you the prescription you need to buy it when leaving. So I called them back to request a fax to be sent to the hospital so I can purchase the food. I called twice and spoke with a different person each time. After waiting an hour - it appeared that it was not coming.I spent over $200 to run tests to diagnose a problem with my cat and had to jump through hoops to get the test results back. The vet never called me back to explain the results. I simply had to spend more $$$ for an office visit. They were unable to find out what was wrong with my cat. His back leg stopped working and it was dragging. I was upset and called to explain that I had financial trouble and felt like I had been taken advantage of. After that, it seemed like they genuinely understood my concern and offered to help by waiving the fee for my next office visit.When I went to take them up on their offer - it was declined. I'm sorry, but there should not be an expiration date on a free office visit even if its only 10 days afterwards. They don't care about you, or your pets. just your money. Most vet/animal clinics are like this sadly but I did not have a good experience with them. I only went here because I lived in Painesville as a child and my parents always brought our pets there. This is actually the first vet I remember taking our family dog to as a child--and it pretty much looks exactly the same! This past week I had to stop by since my family is visiting my parents out this way and I ran out of my pup's heartworm medicine. Yes--I'm that much of a crazy dog Mom that I needed to stop and get his meds immediately. So, I called Lake Animal Hospital to see if they carried his brand of heartworm/flea/tick meds and they did! I told them my story and offered to have my vet at home call them to confirm my dog is, in fact, on that medication. Well, it all went well and I was able to stop by and grab it within an hour. I'm thankful for how thoughtful and understanding they were! There are only two reasons I didn't go with 5-stars. First, it's been over 15 years since I've brought a dog here to have a check-up or procedure. Therefore I didn't feel like I could fully review them. Additionally, they would only sell me the entire box of medication, which was $125. I only really needed two pills and my vet at home lets you buy individual pills. Lastly, they made my pup a little mini record to keep on file, just in case we had any problems while we're out visiting my parents in this neck of the woods. This brought me a lot of comfort!
